  1. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

    That's great news Mumsy.
When you say White Noise, do you mean like an olfactive white?

Nizan, in other applications I think I have found that too much hedione can go powdery/soapy on dry down.

Re: Your top 10 perfumery raw materials

    1. Australian Sandalwood.
    2. Linalool.
    3. Frankincense
Haven't figured out how to use it real well yet, I want to try the method of collecting the smoke.
    4. Citral
    5. Wintergreen oil

  3. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

I will certainly have to try this technique withe the scent strips.
Could save me from wasting some materials.
  4. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

Does everyone else use a similar technique as Nizan, balancing all basenotes before moving to mid and top?
I'm pretty sure I have read Ina book to take that approach.

I must admit, while I sniff...
  5. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

I can get an ashy note if I use too much clary sage w the patchouli.

I've come across your blog/site before doing a google search for Cathedral forumlas.
Very helpful! I'm also going to try your burnt Frankincense trick at some point.

    Re: buy analysis GC/MS

I'd be in for splitting one.
What about the databases or whatever to turn the data into actual chemical composition?
I don't know much about that.
  9. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

I think I have my final version.
I made another round of mods to push a few things but it didn't work out so I think I've gone far enough.
I fixed an imbalance on dry down and am happy.

    Have we...
  10. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

I'm using a lot of naturals too.
I really backed down my clary sage for the same reason.
I get the idea of the dirty or rotting floral, but sometimes it goes too much like black licorice.
    Still...

    Re: Suggestions for new games

I'd be IN for another game after Zino.
What I like about it is it makes me use and work with some materials I may not normally reach for on a daily basis.
After the holidays might be a better time.

    Have you tried ethylene brassylate?
  13. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

Latest round of playing around was great. Much more balanced, if this matures well it could be my submission.

I reduced some cedar to avoid the hampster cage comments.
Lowered my Clary Sage as it...
  14. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

Last weekend I was working on a second attempt (reducing florals and vanilla). Hours later, I had dinner with some family and had forgotten that I tested it on my skin.
    It got great compliments as...
  15. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

I also thought my first attempt was too floral and vanilla.
I also thought it was unbalanced, but as it has matured for a week I like it more.
Should have some time this weekend to make another...

    Re: Advice on a formula

Looks heavy overall, what about a sweet basil or black pepper EO.
  17. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

My first attempt, very unbalanced but I think essence might be in there to be found.
  18. Re: Smelly game....... then smelly swaps (For after the blind sniff game)

Just got an order of materials, I should be ready to get started now!

I do not and tend to stick with a rotating few all year round.
