Thanks for the responses, everyone!
I haven't posted on here for a while, but I must ask this - recently, despite all the complex and satisfying fragrances I've tried in the past year or two, I've developed a renewed...
If anyone has a bottle for sale, that would be awesome, especially if it's a vintage or older formulation. I'm located in the U.S. and willing to pay shipping costs.
Thanks for that!
I ended up going with 1987 - 1995. Seems like most of my favorites are from that era.
I never see any vintage Acqua di Parma bottles. It's apparently existed since 1910, but I never see any bottles from before 1999. Same thing with houses like Penhaligon's and (god help me) Creed. ...
Apparently the women's version is called "Dreaming in Portofino".
THIS IS NOT AN EARLY APRIL FOOL'S JOKE.
So, last night, I was in my local Macy's (Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, which is by no means the most fragrance-oriented place in the world). Browsing the men's...
Old Spice Fiji?
Love this new feature and I love Mimi. I'd love to see an interview of Foetidus or Pluran.
Acqua di Parma Colonia
Today's my 19h birthday! :)
As far as quality aquatics go:
Kenzo Pour Homme
New West by Aramis (preferably in the old blue bottle)
Sel de Vetiver
Horizon (Guy Laroche)
Millesime Imperial (go vintage if you can)
There are still bottles left on eBay and one on Quirky Finds, just at very high prices.
Thank you so much, Mike :-)
Alvin, your comment means the world to me, especially considering...
To my nose, Equipage is more of a chypre. Tsar is definitely an aromatic fougere.
Tsar is probably more accessible, but Equipage, to me at least, is a better, more satisfying fragrance all...
mspa, I'm a lot like you - my skin isn't dry, but it really sucks the life out of fragrances. Patou Pour Homme is one of the few that truly lasts a while on my skin. Also, thank you! :) And, to...
Watch my review. Hopefully it'll answer some of your questions.
I'm not a fan of self-promotion, but this is my truest opinion about my favorite fragrance, and I'm sure some of you guys consider...
Everyone, please welcome my good buddy Anup! He really is a great guy with a wealth of knowledge!
My buddy Matt (whom I share a Youtube fragrance review channel with) got a bottle of Pure Shot in the mail yesterday. In his review, he compared it to B*Men:
Not the best picture, but here's some of my vintages.
Here's one of my...
Try before you buy. It's definitely a complex, well-made fragrance, but it reminds me too much of a barbecued chicken sandwich.
What? At least I'm being honest.
Anyone here tried or own(ed) this fragrance? I just discovered it the other day in a small perfume shop in Maryland and bought it a few minutes after trying it. AMAZING citrus chypre. It's a lot...
Derby is a lot more floral and powdery than Patou Pour Homme. Patou Pour Homme is an oriental chypre with slight fougere elements. It has a distinctive oily leather/tobacco accord and a basil note...
Which one smells the best and lasts the longest on you?
I think I remember a few days ago someone made a joke about an A*Men Pure Sport...
Joke's on you now!
- New York by Parfums de Nicolai -
Definitely plan on trying that one, thanks!
Not sure which board to put this on, so I just posted it here because I figured it would get the most responses the fastest here.
Probably my favorite soap is Yardley Almond & Oatmeal soap. It...
- Mugler Cologne -
I wouldn't go so far to say Acqua di Gio, but I do get a huge synthetic musk note out of the drydown of Azure Lime. Still, I think it's a quality fragrance that's underrated as far as citrus goes.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
- Purple Label by Ralph Lauren -
I hope no one in marketing sees these photos, because they might get ideas from this, and then we'll get new bottle designs, and then a new formulation...
Has anyone here tried this fragrance? I've seen a few things about it here and there on the boards. The notes intrigue me and also the fact that it's by Annick Menardo, who's one of...
Silver Cologne is a decent fresh scent from Amouage that you might like.
Reflection Man is alright but nothing special. I find that lavender in it ends up smelling like a corn tortilla on my...
Out of those two, Fuel for Life is a far more satisfying and quality fragrance, at least for me.
Green Irish Tweed is an excellent spring fragrance.
As far as the Acqua di Parma line goes, the original Colonia is great, but you might want to try a more complex, fougere-like cologne, such as...

Habit Rouge Eau de Toilette by Guerlain
Well, let's take a look at the possible options:
The current Bel Ami has a lot less leather and is more of a plush fragrance with a big rosewood note.
If you dig YSL Concentree, then you'd probably dig Monsieur de Givenchy. It's a citrus chypre like Eau Sauvage, but it has a lot more depth to it and the citrus isn't as bland, flat, or dated...
H.O.T. Always <--- I'm surprised no one has said this one yet!
Eau de New York
I can see where you'd make the comparisons, but Van Halen really doesn't anything to do with Czech and Speake.
It would absolutely work on a dude. A great herbal Eau de Cologne with excellent longevity.
Now, if only it was easier to find...
Patou Pour Homme
Also, I know that there are vintage splash bottles on eBay. Those may yield closer results.
Bumping the thread to share my thoughts.
I think the citrus oils may have burned out over time, as I get a blast of alcohol when I spray on Chanel for Men, and then a "pink", dry, powdery...
I love Horizon. In my opinion it's the best grapefruit out there (besides Guerlain Homme L'Eau), is one of the better "fresh" scents around.
Gucci Pour Homme II
Guerlain Homme (also check out the Intense version)
Terre d'Hermes (EdT is good but the parfum may be more up your alley)
+1 for Burberry London, also.
Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum by Guerlain
I recently acquired a bottle of Chanel for Men (read: vintage Pour Monsieur) and it's on its way in the mail to me now.
I know that Chanel for Men was changed to "Pour Monsieur" in...
Anything with frankincense in it.
Just got my samples of this in the mail.
It's a quality fragrance, but way too close to vintage Bel Ami to warrant a purchase. Essentially it's vintage Bel Ami, just a tad darker and richer, with...
A*Men is not for everyone. That's why there's Angel.
Thanks for the responses, everyone!
Great post, Koala. Derby is one helluva fragrance. I'll have to snag some more samples of it.
It feels great to find something you truly love. Just don't wear it too much! ;)
Taste of Fragrance is really nothing like A*Men. If anything, it's more like B*Men. I got sweet, semi-fruity spices out of the Taste of Fragrance rendition.
My buddy Matt did a review of it on...
DK Men/Fuel for Men by Donna Karan
Guerlain Vetiver is the reference vetiver. If you've sampled Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver, then you'd already have a good idea of it. Guerlain Vetiver (in the recently discontinued ribbed bottle) is...
Yeah, it's my favorite fragrance
Well, besides vintage Mitsouko Eau de Cologne...
I believe everyone here has felt this way at some point. I'm 18 years old and got into this hobby when I was fifteen, so you can only imagine the raised eyebrows of a babyfaced seventeen year old...
I've heard that the vintage Samsara has a very potent Mysore sandalwood note in it, however, I'm wondering, if I do try vintage stuff, how far back should I go? Is 1998 okay, or was it...
How about a top ten? In no particular order:
Fille en Aiguilles
Muscs Koublai Khan
Feminite du Bois
You'll regret those words on Wednesday ;)
Equipage is a spicier, more traditionally masculine woody chypre with a very mature-smelling tobacco note.
Derby is more of a floral-green leather chypre, although to me the chypre facets are so...
Timbuktu is good for layering with sweeter, juicier fragrances, as I find it very dry and bitter.
And, while we're on the subject of layering - Tom Ford's Private Collection. I can't think of any...
Today I was at the drugstore and I tried Instinct by David Beckham. I liked it a lot. In fact, I purchased a bottle to wear as a casual scent.
What sucks is that I'm a Manchester City supporter....
I don't find them similar at all, despite their note structures. Regardless, Declaration is far more interesting in my opinion.
Le Male is more of a sweet fougere whereas Declaration is an...
Check out Monsieur de Givenchy or Chanel Pour Monsieur (NOT the Concentree).
Also, Eau de Rochas (women's or men's) and Eau Sauvage work great, too.
A slick, velvety oriental-fougere hybrid. Very well made, but I can understand why you might be put off by it.
Try Jubilation XXV or Memoir Man. They'd probably be more up your alley.
DAMN! That is an INCREDIBLE collection! Have you ever heard of Luckyscent.com? ;)
I just ordered some samples. I love chypres, so hopefully I'll dig this.
And when I say "hopefully", I mean for me... not my wallet.
Chanel Cuir de Russie is probably the best floral leather out there, however the current version has virtually no animalic notes. If it does have them, I can't detect them on skin or on a card. ...
This probably belongs in the Feminine Fragrance Discussion board, but it'll get quicker replies here.
When seeking out vintage Guerlains (paging Mr. G), I notice numerous different box types. For...
I've spoken with Adam Gottschalk (founder of Lord's Jester) before, and his line is a great one. He probably makes the best solid perfumes in the business.
I vaguely recall trying the liquid...
Nicole Miller for Men (vintage version with the shorter ingredients list)
Virgin Island Water
Guerlain Homme (the rum is less heavy and more astringent in the L'Eau version)
So in other words, scoring a bottle of Green Irish Tweed is basically becoming the same thing as writing a research paper of at least 5,000 words on Stonehenge.
Keep it. If you don't like it, keep it in a wooden drawer in a cool room without light and revisit the stuff over time. Antaeus is most beautiful in its original formulation; you've got a gem on...
I saw the images when I checked this thread on my Mac, so I'm one step ahead of you!
Yeah, that is an old bottle. Definitely cool, though. Sort of reminds me of Yohji Homme. Enjoy it,...
The images aren't showing up, dude.
I'll do it.
Unfortunately, they did not. I was lucky enough to find a gift set with the EDT and the shower gel. Guess I had better keep my eyes open when I go to the actual Guerlain boutique in...
Thanks for the responses everyone.
I ended up buying a bottle of the current EdT and I love it. It has a perfect balance of lemon, powder, and leather. I'd love to try the vintage EdC, though,...
Thank you so much for the responses, everyone. I'll let you all know what happens :-)
Urinal cakes are tasty.
In less than a week I'll be going to Disneyworld. They have a Guerlain boutique there. Because I live in an area that doesn't normally sell Guerlain, I've never had the chance to...
Terre d'Hermes, preferably in the parfum concentration.
Has anyone tried the fragrances of California North? They're a men's grooming brand out of (surprise!) California, and the reviews on their website sound nice.
For reference, here's a link:
Merry Christmas, everyone!
My SOTD is Michael Kors for Men.
Uh, New West.
This is basically like comparing the Sex Pistols to Creed.
Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap. No added fragrance.
Thank you all for the recommendations.
In response to the posts about Acteur: I have yet to try it, but I definitely plan on giving it a go.
I've also tried Lyric Man by Amouage, but that one...
Interestingly enough, I don't really get rose out of Egoiste. I get more of a fruity-woody, rosewood smell as opposed to rose. I enjoy Egoiste, though.
Probably the biggest trouble-maker note on my skin is rose. It either smells too powdery and "old-lady" like (Aramis 900, Knowing), or too dank and "juicy" (Rossy de Palma).
Nice find! Now, if only I could still find Clearasil for Men Face, Hair, and Body Wash... I stocked up on several bottles from Dollar Tree a few years ago.
The video in question:
It looks, to me, like either Incense Oud by Kilian or one of the Armani Prive bottles.
Eau de Patou. It's probably the most unique citrus scent I've ever smelled.
