As a male, the male fragrance discussion page is where I usually go. That's why I started it there. I think the first Slumberhouse thread on Basenotes was started on the male discussion page also. It...
Did anyone get this yet?
Anyone heard any updates lately?
The December email suggested February as the month of arrival.
I wonder if anyone knows if the blue series will come out in smaller bottles. I like this fragrance but 100ml is a lot of commitment. I'd much rather buy a 50ml bottle, which is available in some of...
Thanks for the information. Yes, I ordered it.
Anyone heard anything about a release date for this lately? In October, when it was available for pre-order, it was supposed to come out before the end of the year, I think.
It's been a couple of weeks. Has anyone else gotten to wear this much who's developed more of an opinion?
The original is a favorite so I'm tempted by this one.
Sounds a little like Terre d'Hermes or Malle Bois d'Orage or Divine L'Homme Infini or Byredo Sunday Cologne. Hope I'm wrong.
Consider yourself lucky.
When and where is this available in the US, online preferably?
I guess I'll join in.
One is a clean-cut-barbershop type of fragrance and the other is a sheik-with-a-beard type of fragrance.
Did Pluran delete some of his reviews? I always enjoyed them, but I'm not sure he's still an active reviewer.
Scentemental is another very good reviewer who, I think, doesn't write many (or maybe...
Nothing earth-shattering but a solid fragrance that's easy to like. Reminds of Chanel Pour Monsieur a little.
I just tried a sample of this today and I'd like to buy a full bottle. Can anyone recommend a seller who will ship this to the US, please?
Best of the year.
I've got Tam Dao, Eau Lente and Philosykos. I've come to really enjoy these natural smelling edts and I'd like to add another to my stable. I've got some ideas about where to go next, but I'd like to...
+1 on these two.
Dior Leather Oud
Where can I find it? I've had an eye out for a vintage bottle for some time now.
A couple of them are okay -- Hindu Grass is the best. But for the most part I'm in agreement with this. And they are too loud. Uninteresting and loud is not a good combination.
These, in this order.
Have you tried the others yet? Any thoughts you'd care to share?
Thanks for your insight.
I've got the current version and the vintage version of this great fragrance. I love it but it's so incredibly close to the skin. Almost immediately after I spray generously, I need to stick my nose...
Patou pour homme
Balenciaga pour homme
Ted Lapidus pour homme
Pascal Morabito Or Black
Ignore my previous question. I now see the thread about the sale.
Why? Is it on sale somewhere?
I have a bottle from about 2006 or 2007 that I love. Definitely get a hazelnut quality along with anise. Somehow that adds up to wet dog for me, but not my wet dog or...
Don't like the edp for the reasons Off-Scenter lists.
Tough to pick five from this, my favorite house.
Eau Sauvage (Cuir, too)
Fahrenheit (have never tried vintage and would love to)
I'm looking for a vintage bottle of Fahrenheit that is in excellent condition. Thanks.
I've tried a bunch -- Mitchell's Wool Fat and Martin de Candre are my favorites. I like others but those two stand well above the field, for me.
I think they're pretty different. I've started to put my vials of samples into small spray vials. I think you get a more accurate feel for the juice when it's sprayed than when it's dabbed.
Patou Pour Homme (21)
Azzaro Pour Homme (13)
Ormonde Man (12)
Lonestar Memories (10)
Fou d'Absinthe (9)
The Third Man (9)
Dior Vetiver (8)
Dior Leather Oud (8)
This one sounds something like Lutens Fille en Aiguilles. Pine and incense. That Lutens doesn't quite work for me, so I'd be curious to hear more about this one from anyone who tries it.
I found Santal 33 reminiscent of Bois d'Orage.
I have samples of each of these fragrances and I'm thinking about getting a full bottle, but I'm having trouble deciding which to get. Each time I wear one, I decide on it. But then I try the other...
Would love to see these, too.
There was a nice update of the directory yesterday or today. Thank you and keep up the good work.
I see Granville up at last. Thank you for submitting this. Would you be able to submit Vetiver from the Private Collection as well, please?
I don't think they are similar other than they're both great, timeless fragrances.
Any of the YSL fragrances can usually be had for around $30. Kouros, Live Jazz and Rive Gauche pour Homme are as good as anything you can buy.
Caron Third Man and Yatagan would be excellent....
This one is classic and lasts a reasonable amount of time.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, Mike.
This is about right. They're both shooting blanks.
How about Lush Ladyboy?
It's listed on the site under vetiver now. Both full bottles and samples are avaiable in the shop. I've got samples on the way.
It's nice to see that a few missing fragrances have been added to the directory over the last few weeks. Maybe it's my ignorance, but I don't understand why it can't happen more quickly. There are...
So many are not in the directory yet.
I love it and wish it were just a little more powerful.
Not sure what this means. Does it have to have chocolate in it or something?
I wore this for the first time in probably years. Never loved it. But today I realize it's something special, especially the opening. Truly great stuff. I've purchased a lot of bottles over the last...
Leather Oud is very good.
I was goin to suggest this as well. I love Eau Sauvage, but I don't get much in terms of longevity or sillage. Fraicheur Cuir is very similar, I think, it lasts longer and is more powerful for me.
A few Diors that can be had reasonably and are as good as any -- Dior Homme, Eau Sauvage, Jules and Fahrenheit.
A bunch of YSL also reasonable and exceptionally good -- Live Jazz, Rive Gauche...
Une Fleur de Cassie
If I've got a day ahead of me that I know will be manageable but stressful, I often go for a vetiver scent -- something pure and earthy like Sel de Vetiver, Goutal's Vetiver, or Route du Vetiver...
Nostalgia is a solid fragrance and might be worth a shot. It's more modern than others in the line despite the name. But still pretty traditional, regardless of what some might say about it being an...
Yatagan, especially vintage, if you can find it. Eloge is good, too. Both are worth owning I think.
Slumberhouse Vikt, Jeke and Rume are three I've been wearing lately that I find consistently rewarding and wow-ing.
Just wondering if you received Brosse and Sana, alfarom. I thought your descriptions of the other scents were well done and would be curious to get your thoughts on these.
One of a bunch of quality Dior fragrances from their private collection.
Portland, Or. company with a website at slumberhou.se -- sold at indiescents.com
Slumberhouse : Grev (masculine)
Slumberhouse: Jeke (masculine)
Slumberhouse: Ore (unisex)...
The ones I've tried from this line are excellent. Leather Oud, Vetiver and Granville are my favorites. I haven't tried Ambre Nuit but I'm not big on rose.
I love this feature and use it daily. Except when I wear something not in the directory, which happens too often. It'd be great to see the directory updated more frequently. It's a shame, for...
I think this is the perfect work vetiver. Very classy.
I tried to purchase a bottle through the Dior website but it seems I can't do it there -- I could order other bottles from the private...
I find it sticky and a little shiny. Not my first choice. Baxter makes a clay pomade that I like more -- less shine and stickiness. Redken makes a good putty too.
For me, OM has been a weird fragrance. I bought it blind three or so years ago and immediately hated it. There was a note in it that I simply couldn't get beyond. I wore it a few times when I bought...
Sampled Sana tonight. This stuff is unique and interesting. I'm smelling the notes listed in the description. Definitely get a honeyed raspberry note and a floral thistle smell.
I got a sample vial of this. I've worn it twice but could barely smell it either time. I sometimes feel that I can't smell a fragrance as clearly if I don't spray it. I try always to get spray...
When will this be widely available? I'd like to get a sample. Where might I do that? This is a very good house.
It'd be great to see this in the smaller bottles they made available.
I'm with Hednic. Both are very good in terms of quality, longevity and sillage. If you're going to get one, it just depends on what you want as they're two completely different fragrances. I prefer...
That sounds great. I lived in Portland for some time and have fond memories of walking the dog in Forest Park in the NW part of town. I think I'll order it.
Thanks, SoGent. I appreciate your...
What is Sana like?
I've only worn Sartorial once (from a sample), but even from that limited experience I would say it's not even close. I can barely remember Sartorial. Invasion Barbare, on the other hand, is awesome....
Did anyone here say that Turin/Sanchez shouldn't be questioned? I don't see that. Many of the posts, in fact, seem to suggest that their opinions differ from Turin/Sanchez.
I didn't read it that way. I thought he was being critical of the thread in general because it somehow treats Turin/Sanchez as authorities. If you look at his later post, I think it's pretty clear...
I don't think the premise is all that ridiculous. When a critic puts his opinion out in the public, he opens himself up for evaluation too. I'm also a music fan, who reads music criticism. I like...
The sanctimonious attitude that sometimes appears at Basenotes irritates me. For some reason, there are people here who think it's okay to tell others how to post and what to post about. If I want to...
So, all Basenotes threads should be based on fact, no opinions?
I'm a huge fan of Perfumes: The Guide. I find entertaining, informative and re-readable. Of course, I agree with some of the reviews and disagree with others.
One of those reviews I disagree with...
Just wondering how the smokiness of Verdant stacks up to Lonestar Memories. A green version of Lonestar Memories sounds pretty, pretty, pretty good.
I'd still love to see this happen. I originally posted ten months ago and I haven't seen a lot of progress. There are so many fragrances that need to be added to be current. The Dior Couturier...
I like this one too. I think it's a pretty safe blind buy. I've been wearing Tom Ford Italian Cypress lately, and it reminds me of Modern Reserve. Except for the price.
Claus Porto makes an excellent one.
This is a very fine fragrance. It's exactly what I'd want in an herbal green -- refined, complex and natural smelling. I really like this one. I went to the Dior link listed on this thread but I...
Wouldn't he wear Boss?
I'm wondering if the smell of these lingers long after the shower. Would they interfere with a SotD?
I guess I mean lots of people like a lot of pretty shitty fragrances.
Look at what's popular -- most of it is pretty crappy. I guess it's just me, but I assumed that these would be crap because...
I bought the Vikt and like it a lot. Jeke is good, too. Don't like the Grev so much. I'd be curious to hear about the Brosse and Rume.
That's what I'm talking about. The Creed effect. Both labels seem to be looked down upon by a certain kind of Basenoter.
A few people have written that Tom Ford gets a lot of love around here but...
There are a lot of Tom Ford wearers and fans on Basenotes, so this may be way off. But the feeling I've had was that some Basenoters (maybe the snooty ones?), including myself, have been dismissive...
In reality, I'd probably take Guerlain (Derby, Vetiver, Habit Rouge, Eau de Guerlain, Mouchoir de Monsieur) but for the sake of being different I'm going to choose L'Artisan.
Wore this today. Found it very wearable and buoyant. I'm a fan of the root-y vetivers, but once in awhile, it's nice to break out one like this -- friendly and refined, which, based on lots of other...
Didn't even know these existed. Don't see decants available at The Perfumed Court. Any ideas where I might track down samples of these?
I'd also like to hear more from people about these.
