My favorite scent of the 90's (and still a big favorite today)
Annick Goutal Eau de Sud
I've found that levender helps me sleep. Citrus or Rosemary wakes me up. Musk makes for interesting dreams.....
I love it, but I don't get the fecal smell that everybody talks about.
I love this one, and I usually only use lavender to spritz my pillows before bed to make me sleep. I find the cold slap of lavender in this one to be quite bracing, and it's ashes and incense drydown...
there is a lot of debate as to whether this sort of "sensitivity" to chemicals even exists.
I do try to keep my scents at the office discrete, not overpowering since I share an office. Nobody who...
Miel de Bois
well, since Chergui is now not available in the US, if BB can be a substitute, I'm all for it.
I am one of the few people who likes the strange sasparilla-y opening of this one.
I live in SoCal, so yes, I do think of it. I usually decant a small amount that I keep out and handy: the bottles are in the box in a bottom drawer of my closet.
Actually, I have found that SL's Gris Clair has fantastic staying power- the top note of cold lavender acts exactly like some of the other top notes in his perfumes, any small burst of activity (that...
that's the bottle I remeber buying years ago. I just bought a tester from an online retailer and I thought I was diddled until I smelled the juice.
I guess the important question is, does it smell...
I was wearing Eau de Sud
acqua de parma
I rather dislike the opening of Musc Ravageur, so I think of Kiehl's as a daintier MKK. I think it's a great one for the price.
I have to say MKK. I don't know if I would wear it out of the house. But Chergui, Ambre Sultan or Clair de Musc are pretty sexy (from the exports)
Joy. The scent of my Mom tucking me in on her way out with my Dad for the evening.
well, the only thing I can add to this (other than that you should reward all of us that reply with a sample ;D) is that you should balance each layer: a citrus could be cut with a pepper, the...
I'd have to dig it out. It's something an aquaintance gave me because I liked scents. It isn't that it's awful, it's just one of those linear designer frags that are so (putting on snobby...
Lorenzo Villoresi Incensi
My skin is very acidic: I used to eat though the Timex watches my parents bought me in months until Dad gave me one of his old stainless steel watches. All of my glasses have to be plastic: the metal...
Annick Goutal Sables
testing (and starting to love) Rahat Loukoum
eau de Hadrien
Wow- what a list- there are ones that I still wear (Annick Goutal) and at leat one that I had totally forgotten (Route de The).
I may have to run over to Barneys next Sunday and spritz! ;D
If you know anybody who lives in the EU you can order from the salon and have it shipped to your friend. That's how I got Borneo and Chene.
Miel de Bois is nice too.
eau de monsieur
testing Rahat Loukoum
My mother wore Joy, Bandit and Fracas.
Just not at once.
I went to see that flower when it bloomed at the Huntington Museum in Pasadena. I actually saw it when it was past it's prime, and the smell was not as concentrated as it had been aa few days before....
testing Douce Amere. Not quite sure it's a full bottle buy yet. (but that might be a good thing for my bank balance..) ;)
I spray my pillows with eau de lavande
It sounds like Tubby had issues. Maybe not with being gay, but with getting old. I have a few myself, but I'd hit the slim-fast and the SoloFlex hard before I tried to pull off the tight black tee...
Well, I'm wearing it too, and your girlfrend is wrong. :D
I would try to get a decant on eBay. You can get a decent sized one for about $15.
You shouldn't be frustrated. Mass market fragrances are what they are and are marketed to the people they're marketed to. Some of them can be good, in the way that a cold MGD on a hot summer day can,...
Because of the protests in downtown LA, we were told to work from home today, so it's MKK
Gris Clair is one that surprised me; usually lavender puts me to sleep faster than a gin-and-Ambien milkshake (I have a bottle of eau de Lavande that I spritz my pillows with at bedtime). The...
Just in case, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorfs carry some, but not all SL's Barney's has an excluxive on Gris Clair.
Chergui for me. I actually haven't smelled FM yet.
There are a scant few bottles of Chergui at Barney's Beverly Hills. If you want one, I'd call with a credit card tomorrow.
Miel de Bois, just testing
Yes, Chergui has gone back to the "exclusives" (I ran to Barneys BH and got the last bottle). It can only be had from the salon in Paris. If you are in the EU, you can order a bottle and have it...
At gunpoint? I would take Chergui. I love the honey/hay accord in that one, and the drydown in gorgeous. Tea for Two is lovely, but I'm not crazy about Vanilla and for me the l'Artisan scents are not...
I'm glad you had a good experience with them. I went out to their store in Venice (CA) to try one of the scents that had been recommended to me, and while the scent was nice, I was in the store 15...
Didn't see it, so I'll start
Borneo 1823 on and yet another grey and rainy Los Angeles day.
Is it spring yet?
I think it's going to be Gris Clair. I'm going to have to buy a full bottle of this
God, I'd forgotten that one (perhaps blocked it out). That was as ubiquitous on women as Lagerfeld was on men. I remember nearly getting an asthma attack trapped at the long light at Rodeo and...
well, it's musk and amber (and in my opinion, too much) but the penultimate 80's scent would be Lagerfeld.
Dude- i hope you're writing. You have a gift.
I think it's going to a Daim Blond kind of day...
and in case it's not glaringly obvious, I'm teasing you.
I guess my ancient eyes misconstrued
I'm old enough to be your father, and I am perfectly able to not only afford but pull off Ambre Sultan. *As for calling you dearie, I know what sex we...
Well dearie, you have fun in your Depends sipping your Gin & Ensure. *I'm going to Dolce for drinks with friends and then to an 11 o'clock show at the Evidence Room. *I'll be wearing my blazer and...
That's who have the money for it. *Cruise the aisles at Barney's or Neiman's or Bergorf's. *You'll see a lot of 35 year olds in $500 jeans.
Are the ads showing that? *No, that's called marketing.
I kicked 40 in the teeth a while ago, and if you look at my post in SOTD since I joined basenotes a few months ago, I am almost exlusively Serge Lutens. *I also wear somewhat stylish clothing, have...
It will be Gris Clair
it depends upon a lot of factors: diet, even what kind of clothes one wears. *I bathe every day, exfoliate like Joan Crawford, swallow Chlorophyll pills (it's an antioxydent mostly, althought you do...
I love Eau Sauvage. I must get a bottle of that- my first fragrance purchase.
It will be in the 80's tomorrow in Los Angeles, but since my office is kept as cold as a meat locker, I think I'll...
my sentiments exactly.....
It's going to be Miel de Bois (from a sample)
What he said
Do you have any retail experience? If not, make a list of skills that you think would be good for the position- anything at all having to do with accounting, because you'll be handling money and...
That's enough. No-one should notice scent on a man unless they are thisclose.
Well, I wouldn't pour a bottle of Jungle Gardenia over my head, but I can't see how a spritz of eau d'Hadrien on my chest before I get dressed would cost me a job. If it did, perhaps that not the...
I don't think it's for the office.
I don't find MKK to be awful at all- I love it. It smells like the lover you've always dreamt of But it can be a bit much on a guy. You absolutely must try it on your skin though. On me, it's not as...
it's going to MKK
Went with Daim Blond. MKK is a little much for an office when it's in the 70's
I'm alone in my office tomorrow, so it may be MKK
Paul Smith Men
I get loads of suede from Daim Blond. *MKK doesn't work on me, I get the floral and not the "drrrty" musk
Borneo 1823 is great on me: the only patchouli I've ever liked. *The addition of the...
luckyscent.com is great for niche scents
It does last longer, but smells slightly different.
Its explanied in detail here
I didn't get chocolate at all. As a matter of fact, that's why I didn't go any further with the scent. It started off as a wonderfully startling burst of red pepper and settled into..... red pepper....
On me, l'Artisan's Piment Brulant smells exactly like fresh cut red bell pepper
Dzing! from a tester.
My first thread starter.
It's Thusday night in LA, and I think I will stick to Daim Blond.
Next week my office mate is taking a vacation, I may actually wear MKK!
Give it a few chances. As much as I love Daim Blonde, Chergui knocks it into the weeds. It took about a month for me to come to that conclusion.
It took me several tries before I "got" it.
