HELP! My Bulgari Black Atomizer is on the fritz. Any help? I remember a thread years ago that covered this.
What I smell often:
Generic Watery Fragrances
GIT is my personal fave. It's fresh without being annoyingly so. But to each their own.
I would have to agree that many BNers (myself included) tend to underrate popular designer frags...
M7 reminds me of the smell that emits from my wood stove on a winter day.
Rive Gauche reminds me of my 1st ever Shaving Cream.
I think any of 4 Creed's would work (SMW, Himalaya, GIT or MI). I like L'Artisan's Tea for Two. It's somewhat smokey, but not at all offensive, overpowering or cloying.
Sandalwood by Trumpers...
I thought I was the only one in Charlotte.
Ever been to Potion on East Blvd?
That's exactly how I feel. I only use 2 or 3 sprays at most (1 if it's Pi). With the Rive Gauch especially it is tough to smell the base (which is my favorite part).
Maybe it is fatigue. Come...
I was just thinking about my fragrance collection. While A couple have really great sillage (GIT and M7). The majority stick very close to the skin (Douce Amere, Rive Gauche, Floris Santal,...
I don't get the complaints about longevity. Dzing was a little short natured, but Merchant Loup (my fragrance today) has lasted 11 hours on my skin. This is just a sample vial too. Most sample...
What to look for in your 4 choices
DG PH--It'll start off with some lemon citrus, but a very dirty scent due to the tobacco. It's wonderful.
The Dreamer--I've sampled this a couple of times....
1. Buy Decants with the spray/atomizers. These more accurately reflect the longevity of the fragrance then a roll on/splash bottle (Note: The actual fragrance will...
I really like the Rive Guache suggestion as well as the Armani Code and DG Ph. Will also nominate Bulgari Black. It's the perfect fragrance to raise eyebrows and when it drys down, the ladies will...
Hmmmm....Although It's tempting to guess MR by FM, I don't think that it contains tangerine as much as orange.
I'm going with Laguna Homme. It contains most of the referenced notes.
Smoldering, Emboldened, Saucy and Fearless
Sounds like M7 to me!
I was wanting to buy a musk fragrance and I really enjoyed Lorenzo Villoresi Musk but their are 2 reasons why I hesitate.
1. The Price
2. It has a bottom oak moss note. That note...
2. Floris Santal
1. Aquaman Rochas
2. Caron L'Anarchiste
I'll add Unforgivable and second Varvatos. Also liked Armani Code as well as Bulgai Black (not sure how new, but it's AWESOME!).
If you've got cash to spare, I really liked Bond no 9 Hamptons...
Why not a gourmand? Your fragrance will demand the girls to eat you alive. Amen is devilishly delicious and both chocolate and vanilla are aphrodisiacs.
Here's the thing
My mother doesn't really wear many fragrances. She has a bottle of no 5 and thats it.
What happened was that she saw that I bought a bottle of Douce Amere and wanted to test...
Here is my list
Rive Gauche: Every bit as good as advertised. I love it; can't get enough
Bulgari Black: One smell has me hooked, definitely will be buying
M7: At first I was worried, over...
It's not Cigars and Smoke, but dang I really liked Bulgari Black. I sampled it tonight and it has some similarities with 2 other good fragrances (Ambre Sultan and Dzing). I wouldn't recommend the...
I've got to buy my mother a fragrance.
I sampled a couple tonight (Hypnotic Poison, CoCo, Lovely)
Hypnotic Poison = PI. I know they aren't exactly the same, but the...
Personally I think you should cater it to the atmosphere and ambience. For example, in a coffee shop you will be dealing with an environment with multiple food smells. A good gourmand might blend...
Anybody know of any aquatic musks? I was smelling a new soap and it smelled wonderful and it made me think of an aquatic musk.
I'd say give him something that will give him a leg up on all the Aqua di Gio/Cool Water/Polo Blue/Abercrombie crowd.
I'd give him John Varvatos. A wonderfully pleasing smell and it's way...
I live in NC which certainly is a warm climate. I think if you want to get him a year round fragrance a good candidate might be PH by Dolce and Gabanna. Reasonalbe price with a clean Lemon scent...
I'm very surprised that no one has mentioned it. However there is a company called Genderme (Gendarme?sp?). It produces fragrance that are specifically designed to not cause allergic reactions. ...
You want something that's masculine
Masculine is tobacco, woods, etc.
A good designer wood is the aforementioned M7. It starts with a smoky, woody blast and cools down to a nice warm radiant...
If I want to smell like every other guy I'd wear 5 shots of some Axe crap that my brother has.
But I never want to smell like any other guy.
So when I'm trying to wear something that's...
Do you smell what the Rock is perfuming ?!?!
My 2 pesos.
How do I define a well crafted fragrance.
I have a few general guidelines.
1. Do the notes blend? Is there a note that sticks out in an unbearable or aggravating way?
I think these posts sum it up well. Green runs a pretty big gambit. It can include various herbs and greens (mint, rosemary), different grass smells, and lighter less woody woods (bamboo leaves). ...
I found that Habit Rouge (Citrus top/Vanilla heart) has some similarities with Opium by YSL which also shares a very similar middle with Xyerus Rouge by Givenchy (Strong Red Pepper Accord).
It really depends on who the seller is. Check his reputation. Is it good? Have people complained about strange fragrances or fake ones? Is he new?
I too like the Nivea smell. I can detect a slight hint of amber, however I'm not sure what else is in it. Very nice smell though.
I've seen Magnetism at TJMaxx for 20. A steal.
You could also get Givenchy PI for probably around 20 on EBay. I think you can get Hermes Eau D'Orange Vert and Equipage for 30 or under.
A tie between
Adg and Cool Water
My First SotD thread!!! @ 12:30 am
Haven't thought about my SotD
Probably will go Himalaya.
Paris Hilton: Angel Innocent (Innocent, yeah right), Love In White (Or Anything else in White for that matter) or Curious (We saw what happens when you mix this with video recording equipment)
3. Himalaya/M7 (summer/winter)
I think every other fragrance I have is a sweet one.
L'Anarchiste is kind of metally, but in a bloody day light massacre type of way.
I wouldn't go so far as to call CW cheap, but their are differences in quality. First for me the CW doesn't last nearly as long, second the power of the top notes is much much stronger than the...
Dinner Party this Evening.
Heres what I got:
Tommy Bahama's Very Cool has a Mango like top note.
Depends on where you're going.
Going to dinner at an upscale, black tie joint?
Going to a party with a blazer and jeans?
I like both. I'm not sure which I like More. I love the Tonka in Code, but Santal is a beautiful, calmer fragrance.
Because Bond No 9 advertised on Basenotes for some time. They specifically advertised their clearance. They don't sell items year round, just at specific times when they are clearing house.
Bingo. Creedirect is money. Bond No 9, perfectly legit.
For me GIT is completely different from Coolwater
GIT on my skin starts off with a Lemony, Grass Smell. It then dries down to a "white" light fragrance that has a blend between a floral/woody...
Thats odd because one of the prominent notes in Armani Code is Tonka which is very similar to vanilla.
I'm actually of similar taste because Vanilla notes tend to be a little cloying to me whereas...
I went and sample Kouros again hoping I wouldn't get the piss note.
And I didn't. It actually reminded me of black licorice.
However I never liked black licorice so I passed.
5 years from now they may extract oils from Algaes in the sea or maybe from an exotic grass in the rainforest that as of right now is unknownst.
There are an unlimited number of possibilities. ...
Go with Douce Amere. Arabie can be kind of medicinal at times. Douce is delightful IMHO.
Two of them Perfumania and Fragrance Outlet. Perfumania is in all of the local malls. The one in Concord Mills has a good collection of YSL, including Rive Gauche and M7.
Thanks for clarifying that
I have to disagree w/ Guerlain and CdG. To me designer means a house that specializes in other forms (clothes, bags, shoes, etc.)
To my knowledge Guerlain and CdG only do fragrances, thus that...
I would second Geir. I'm sure someone is decanting a little. Also think about SMW by Creed. To me it's very fresh, very clean but has a seductive currant note.
Just wanted to see what everyone else thought. If you were to tell a guy he "HAS" to try one fragrance what would it be?
Green Irish Tweed also elicited my first positive comments. What a wonderful fragrance. Everyman should wear this.
I have one complaint about YSL. Why won't they produce M7 Fresh in the US. How frustrating.
Another poster said it, they are the top of the line Designer fragrance line. Unique fragrances that...
Arabie = An arabian market. Dates, Figs, Etc.
Ambre Sultan = Smoky, Ambery Sweetness.
Douce Amere = Similar to Ambre Sultan but the Sweetness isn't as ambery to me, it's more of a...
Give us your ideal price range.
I may get laughed at for suggesting this, but if you are looking for an oriental style scent with some warmth and sweetness I think Black Code by Armani wouldn't be a bad choice. The tonka note...
Potion at East Blvd is a licensed Creed dealer.
Crabtree and Evelyn is also at North Lake Mall.
Here in North Carolina.
Cool Water is popular, so is Curve. Abercrombie and Fitch is all over the place as is Tommy. I've seen guys with Kenneth Cole stuff.
A coworker asked what I was...
I got one from Malle today also (same stuff).
So far that's 19 fragrances from 5 companies.
Creed's Himalaya to me is an incredible clean/fresh feeling. I also like the GFT line. They have multiple goodies.
Someone else mentioned Trumpers Sandalwood and I have to second that. It is a perfectly, conservative, good smelling office scent.
Hermes arrived with 2 samples. Mighty stingy eh (not the ones I wanted, should've been more specific).
I thought it was very gender-less. Very plain and clean. Nothing gender specific about it.
I got a response and they directed me to a retailer here in Charlotte. I'm psyched.
Trumpers sample arrived. Recieved Extract of Lime, GFT, Bay Rum, Sandalwood and one other.
Also decided to give Creed a shot. Here goes nothing.
Still waiting on Caron, Truefitt and Hill and...
Tonka is intoxicating. Yum.
Ditto here. And I am happy to have more to try.
With those circumstances I would also recommend tea for two. Getting a sample shouldn't be that hard. I got some free by requesting them from the Soho botique in NY. They mailed them to me w/in 3...
Maybe the moss was peed on by a dog.
I've sampled half the stuff on your list. Here are my thoughts
Tea for Two: One of the most wearable scents ever. Just so nice. Agreeable yet distinguishable. Definitely a good choice.
I think it depends on your skintype, your tastes, and location etc.
In a club you definitely want something distincitive, strong and long lasting. Since you know 90% will be wearing Cool Water or...
Maybe we could get some support for this and get Mugler to sponsor a charity event. 1 dollar for everyone who wears this to an important charity.
I think European when I smell Kouros.
I've tried to give it 3 tries and can't get past that top note.
It smells like your a peeing on the counter.
Sampling Arabie by Serge Lutens.
In Charlotte (excluding the Belks, Hechts, Dillards, etc. and the Perfumania mall chains)
L'Ocitane (North Lake)
Sephora (South Park)
Neiman Marcus (coming Sept to South Park)
I don't think you can go wrong with Creed. They are a very gentlemanly style colognes. Good for office work.
I think it all depends on your noses trigger points.
Each nose is sensitive to different stimuli more than others.
For me GIT and CW are nothing alike. CW comes off as spicy and peppery...
I actually just got a sample sent to me from Barneys. However they don't have it online. I guess I'll call the store to see if I can order it via phone or something.
I'm looking to buy Chergui from Serge Lutens. The Ebay price is 189.00 bucks. Double what the normal Serge Luten's costs. Anyone know where you can get these online?
creeddirect = Bond no 9.
I think thats what makes colognes great. Each wearer is so unique. I think Onyx has a much stronger middle (maybe the Juniper) whereas RG to me is very soapy and powdery and not overpowering at all.
I sampled it on my skin for the first time and was blown away. It reminded me of a classic shaving cream. That happens to be a smell I absolutely love.
I am definitely getting some of this.
I GOT MY SAMPLES!!! Barneys came through in a pinch and hooked me up.
Everything I asked for I got (Arabie, Santal Blanc, Chergui, Douce Amere and Daim Blond)
Also L'Artisan send me 5 samples...
I've tried Citron Citron and loved it. Excellent Citrus IMHO.
This reminds me of the Budweiser "Mr Too Much Cologne Wearer" real men of genius commercial.
"Like a bullhorn, your cologne announces your every arrival, four blocks before you get...
I would like to see Citron Citron get a little more run. While it doesn't have great staying power, the first couple of hours are too die for. I love the lime in the top note, it is fabulous. To...
I called Barneys, got transferred around and a lady in their fragrance department wrote down my address and my wish list and said that she would pass it on to someone who could help.
We will see...
File a complaint with Ebay. I think their is a thread that shows how you can tell fake Creed's or not (Oliver Creed may have mentioned it in an interview). If he advertises it as Creed and it's...
I'd be curious to see some of the other notes. It would be an astounding amount of work to say the least but man it would be interesting to see a total breakdown of all notes and how many fragrances...
