Voor een fles Vetiver doe ik alles!
So it seems... sad news indeed!
It appears that Miracle Homme has been discontinued and its remains were moved to the Les Secrets line...
I'm curious. Has anyone smelled this? What's it like?
One of my most cherished discoveries of this year. Effortless and comforting indeed, in a bluish kind of way. Aldehydes give it a bright sparkle; when you spray a bit more, longevity is just fine....
Men always want to sniff me when I wear Dominguez' Vetiver. Sometimes they do more.
Zinc deficiency, perhaps?
Try spraying it differently. Le Vainqueur by Rancé comes pretty close...
Sounds like somebody has just found his signature scent ;-)
Now that would be a first!
YSL pour Homme - thyme, lemon, vetiver. That's it.
Ah! Another fan! Especially for you, then: the His & Hers episode, starring the divine Jo Lumley:
You're right, the 2nd link doesn't work, sorry about that. As always on YouTube, you need to have Flash installed to see anything - which is generally a good idea as more and more sites are using it....
Roses & wild thyme, familiar yet elusive
I like what Ellena says there: 'For once again it is time to smell of what we are, rather than smell of what society has made of us.'
Guerlain Vetiver, Yatagan, Black XS
'The sedative effect of vetiver oil upon inhalation in rats was studied by observing the number of crossing and rearing motilities. The results showed that vetiver oil decreased rearing motility when...
Be careful. Somebody might steal you!
The most popular items with thieves will be designer perfumes, whisky and women's wear
That quote alone makes this thread more than worthwhile. Thanks, Marcello!
That's the problem. It is so universally liked that it has become nobody's scent. Perhaps they should rename this Cliché de Cartier.
How interesting! Try Cipresso di Toscana by Acqua di Parma:
Yes, yes, and yes. All three are classics.
'Well, when you're from Pittsburgh, you have to do something.'
- Auntie Mame
If at all, then in KaDeWe or perhaps Lafayette:
According to the German PR blurb, these are new fragrances - contemporary renditions of the originals. Perfumers are Evelyne Boulanger and Marc Buxton of Symrise. While I'm lucky enough to have a...
Looks like our David is the new Mrs Slocombe!

'Rund 4000 Jahre Patriarchat und immer noch kein Mittel gegen Krebs, keine Methode gegen den Welthunger. Stattdessen Bush, Bohlen und RTL II. Wir haben unsere Chance gehabt.'
For all you Dutch basenoters: Yatagan edt 125 ml, € 20. They have some 10 bottles left.
Albert Cuypstraat 84

Cute little store, somewhat tucked away behind the stalls on Amsterdam's Albert Cuyp market. Full of surprises.
Albert Cuypstraat 84

Lovely small gift shop on Amsterdam's trendy Haarlemmerdijk with a limited but interesting range of perfume brands such as Lubin, Miller & Bertaux and Ineke.
Great post! 'Luxury' used to refer to elitist pleasures, today it is a synonym for mass market - pretty much the same way the term 'democracy' is being abused as a legitimation for warfare. Corporate...
Perhaps it's time for a 'Fragrance, Aesthetics & Theory' section on the board?

'Perfume, once a true luxury product, has become, with a few exceptions, a mere commodity in recent years. Now designer and luxury labels and the cosmetics giants are trying to restore fragrance's...

Is your wife getting suspicious?
Crass is probably the best word to describe it. Harsh, synthetic cedar, almost industrial. While great things have emerged from German labs in that era, this is not one I'd file under 'great classics...
Me too! Isabelle told me her original idea for the scent was violets in a frozen, moonlit landscape. So it's no coincidence...
'Coty fragrances have been crap for twenty years.'

My all time favourite, of course: Jil Sander Man Pure (1981)
There's a Sephora right on Placa Catalunya. My tip would be to buy Adolfo Dominguez' Vetiver (120 ml for around € 30 last time I checked) and perhaps some Loewe upon departure at the airport.
Sécrétions Magnifiques may be right up your alley, Narcus:
In a previous post on this board, Jaime B. defined 5 criteria for 'well-crafted' scents:
Methinks that these would have to apply to any...
...Then you really should try Adolfo Dominguez' Vetiver Hombre.
The gorgeous L'Occitan by L'Occitane - opulent yet well behaved lavender and burnt wood in a timeless, near-perfect composition - deserves more than just two lukewarm Basenotes reviews.
That must be Jil Sander's first (1981). Get it, it may be the only chance you'll ever get!
That was almost a year ago and I still wear Black XS frequently. The initial strangeness of the scent has disappeared; today I wear it with the pleasurable ease of thorough familiarity. A keeper and...
You can say that again! Its aldehydic vetiver/cypress combination is brilliant. Encre Noire is both a classical vetiver and a contemporary composition with a very modern feel about it. That alone...
Adds a whole new meaning to it, doesn't it? Chanels are good - they still exude sophistication when the wearer can't.
Now that's really interesting! (No, I won't ask what you were doing there.) My experiences with Déclaration are similar. I love it nevertheless.
Let's start a 'fragrances for the desperate people...
Have your mobile scented in Seoul
Chanel №5 - Marilyn Monroe wore it.
I'd appreciate it if you could refrain from such comments.
That kid was me, Chris. How could I forget Kouros?
Obsession and Safari came about much later.
Pre-1985 and available in the Netherlands - could have been Paco Rabanne pour Homme... Polo Green would be my second guess.

Mäurer + Wirtz did... I guess it's safe now to stop the discontinuation gossip.

Interesting: 'The deadly perfume bottle'
Other than that, it doesn't look too good, I'm afraid......
This is an exciting project. I've had the pleasure of talking to René on several occasions and know how passionate he is about this project. Isabelle Doyen is Annick Goutal's house perfumer; she also...
Browsing my favourite Amsterdam perfume shop today, I discovered a little known line: Il Profvmo.
What a surprise it was! Their men's fragrance 'G11' turns out to be a perfect reincarnation of Jil...
Dutch housewives use bleach for everything. This is no exception ;)
That's the one. Beautiful fragrance, very subtle vetiver. But it was discontinued so long ago that the fragrance is likely to have deteriorated if you'd buy it today.
Welcome to the club!
Better late than never, huh?
I think there is a distinct 'moist' note in Rabanne's Black XS, which I've been wearing frequently lately. Chandler Burr doesn't seem to think so. In his Black XS review (link below), Burr writes:
Sandy, I totally agree with you, both with your - and Luca Turin's - definition of chic and your point about never-intended richness. Chic involves risk and innovation. Chanel chic on the other hand...
The grandmother. 'Hellooo dear children, it's sooo good to see you again! Would you like some blackcurrant lemonade?'
I've always said that No. 5 can be worn by a man if he's man enough. The reason why I don't is that - with the exception of Pour Monsieur, perhaps - I have become thoroughly bored with the opulent...
One whiff and he'll be all over your pulse points ;)
The regular duty free price at Spanish airports was € 30 for 120 ml last time I checked. Otherwise it's hard to come by but definitely worth the effort.
Try Adolfo Dominguez' Vetiver Hombre!
The silence has been deafening on this one on the Basenotes board. Apart from Otto's passionate endorsement and Miss Burr's quoted comments - 'stellar', with which I somewhat reluctantly agree -...

I have, but I'm not allowed to discuss it on this board.
All eucalyptus notes are fleeting, I'm afraid - it just doesn't last very long. Your best bet is a private eucalyptus forest. Enjoy!

David says that Pontaccio 21 was discontinued recently. That would be too bad since he just got me hooked on it! A beautiful woody chypre, slightly similar to Aramis but of true, almost Chanel-like...
Finally - the first Terre d'Hermes review on Now Smell This:

Not so creamy, but vanilla & masculine: Bulgari Black
This one moved in with me years ago and just never left again. We shared many great moments together. To me, Miracle is among the very few that are truly 24/7 anytime, anywhere fragrances. I'll never...

I've been using David's soaps for quite a while now and they're indeed terrific. Cardamom and Black Pepper is my favourite but the others are amazing too. Check out his Berlin store!
Review? A rather shallow one-paragraph summary of what must have been a 28-page press kit by someone who 'can't even figure out how to spray it on'. 'Suffice it to say Hermes is not known for...
