Wow okay, so let's give it this week? Sent Saponier a pm, no answer yet, so let's hope for the best

Looks very cute indeed and perfect for your intent
I don't think you can manipulate as much with this one as the variables are set (like speed, temperature) and with my experiments the...
Tell me first how do you use it and why did you purchase it ;) And also what kind of centrifuge, type, manufacturer and so on.
The one I use(d) was one that is often used in combination with...
David, as far as I know (and see studies above in the link) ethanol is a known penetration enhancer. I assume we are still talking about fine fragrance made of 80% ethanol and ethanol as a widely...
David, thank you.
Sorry for the confusion: I meant the solvent that is used on the gum resin to make the resinoid. Luigi kindly addressed this.
Thank you, Luigi, that's what I thought.
That's what I thought too, Luigi. I have several kinds, most are hard like yours, unless something else is added and that is mostly mentioned, like 50% MPG etc. CO2 extracts are also liquid.
Centrifuges are fun  You can separate tinctures and mixtures and manipulate olfactory results. I have done some very interesting experiments when working on historic perfumes.
Then we wait...
Would still be nice to hear from Saponier, though, I'll send a pm.
Thank you, Luigi. I am aware of the basics, was just wondering if David (or anyone else) had some insight of what exact solvent is usually used in frankincense resinoid? Those specifics are not easy...
David already gave excellent answers.
I would like to add that sometimes ethanol, some solvents like TEC and several essential oils can also act as 'skin penetration enhancers', meaning that some...
David, do you happen to know what solvent is usually used for a frankincense resinoid?
What do you want to do, Saponier?
We need a fast solution, we're 5 weeks in and still no sniffing. Will we get this done before xmas? ;)
None of the US ones?
I think the plan could be that the 3 of us that did receive it all should all send 1/2 of 1 of saponiers samples to 1 of the participants.
This way we can split costs and...
Indeed. That last step is unavoidable. It's the other many many prior steps one can improve ;)
Justin, by the raw resins, do you mean the pieces that are used to burn as incense?
I see a few problems. The olfactory profile of different materials is well, they smell different ;) There are...
You're most welcome, mumsy, I learn from you every day, I'm glad I can give back a bit :dankk2:
Justin, plastic are complex chemicals (polymers) and polymer chemistry is a specialism that goes...
No, I mean that all those little tiny bits of plastic in all those tiny different dilutions, all put together will add up to a not so tiny amount of plastic polymers (like some harmful phthalates ...
A slight problem with re-suing plastic, and plastic & aromatics in generals. Most aromatics will dissolve the plastic in time. Not much to see with the bare eye, but you'll end up with quite a lot of...
Sorry, David, I read to quickly, am in a bit of a rush...
Nifty stuff, so much creative solutions, everyone
I cannot share pictures (restricted area and confidentiality stuff) but it's a combination of these 2 pics, pretty full, lots of boxes,...
You're most welcome, David, thank you for getting back and please do let us know how it goes?
p.s. from personal experience I found the process of DIY scenting talc powder very annoying and not...
 you're making me blush :engel017:
Thank you, Bill, this is so helpful, as I have a bunch of those empty vials still sealed and didn't know what to do with them. Now I can put them to good use :dankk2:
Now I see what you mean, Bill, I call them 'alu seal lab vial caps'. I can't use those as you need a special crimper, do you have it?
Indeed, the Sure Seal caps are only available on containers of...
We've discussed this in length not too long ago
Do you mean Sure Seal, Bill?
Thank you, Christine, that is awesome :tekst-toppie: (making mental note, will contact you soon)
I've updated the OP, so far half has received it all and half has 1 to go/come.
I did :tekst-toppie:
That's great news, Christine!
Question: can you also obtain a certificate of declaration of allergens for their naturals and mixtures?
Hi guys, just checking in: any news?
Yes, good ventilation is important.
Yes, many aromachemicals need to be handled as such: aroma - chemicals. For more information on how to handle them, see MSDS from your supplier and...
Funny story indeed :)
btw I didn't pass judgement on the different ways of training or language. Just that there is a difference and that everyone is indeed susceptible to suggestion.
Indeed, Bill, I also find that very misleading.
Perfume pyramids and fragrance wheels are most important for marketing & sales purposes.
Sometimes it does offer some funny insight in how easy...
What a beautiful story, mumsy, thank you for sharing
Gecko, when it comes to perfumery it might help to set 'skills oriented goals' instead of 'performance goals'. As a teacher this is what...
LOL mumsy :D
We will wait till everyone's got all the stuff and is ready to go
Well, I'm not one for titles, not to step on anyones toes/noses :cheesy:
And I am very interested to read and appreciate David's and Paul's and anyone else who would like to share their stories. ...
Okay, right ;) I'll get back to you, it's a rather long story...
Well, actually, mumsy, a little bit of alcohol seems to improve the sense of smell ;)
Anyways, I would suggest we would only...
A very interesting question.
But first let me see if I understand you right:
Are you interested in the science of smell and how the nose works in general?
In that case, I wrote a bit on my blog...
Also received them all. I'm good to go whenever everyone else is too!
That is fab news, mumsy! Please do get back on how it goes? I've experimented with many things in the past, the problem with cardboard is that is heavy. And here the size is not as important as the...
Wow, Paul, that's great news!
Well done, Paul, I guess thickness is a factor with the US postal fees? You got it to look perfectly like a postcard :vrolijk_26:
Will keep this in mind for the future!
Ow yes, indeed, Paul, your packaging was amazingly ingenious, very creative, thank you :tekst-toppie:
yeah, I just read, that one can do that by sniffing smelly stuff :p Just not the blind smellies yet :p
All here, but Saponier's.
Patience, my friends, patience, we start when we can all start ;)
Maybe this will help you out, Paul?
You can download the full text pdf there too.
Great :tekst-toppie: And I know what you mean about sniffing habits
Thank you for the updates, so far I've only received the 2.
Thank you both for the update
Wow mumsy, I need an assistant like your daughter ;)
Thank you for explaining the numbers
In this case, before I would even start the implications of the fragrance, I would first worry about getting vital elements of formulation of these aqueous cosmetics right. Crucial are the right...
My postage was a total of 23 euro. But I could get it down in the future as they charge at cost at the post office, but if I want to post myself there are only 1 kind of stamps available for anything...
Today Renegade's & Mumsy's samples came in, thank you.
Small trick of the trade: add crystals to the other liquid aromatics you use in your formula, many aromatics are good solvents.
Personally I love nitromusks, they're responsible for the vintage...
Website looks good  Took the survey too ;)
Do they need to? For evaluation purposes?
Thank you for the update :)
The only one I didn't hear from is PK....
Thank you for keeping us informed, Renagade & Saponier
Thank you, Renegade, learning new things about international posting regulations every day ;) I like your description.
And just like you, for mumsy: please do NOT use the materials I have sent you...
Sorry Renagade, I just re-read your question LOL and you meant the customs labels, like for the customes hihi :D
Well please fill in 'gift', 'scented bath oils non-flammable', value '5 euro',...
Yes, I'm also looking forward to the fun, I especially hope it will not become a sniffing guessing contest.
So everyone beforehand from me: a 'well done' pat on the back, thank you for...
Great :vrolijk_26: in your case, see OP, the 3 materials should be labeled with the numbers 176, 793 and 351.
I didn't have to fill anything this time... the postage prices did go up, like a lot
Lol mumsy, Fran with the plan ;)
No plan on my side, just like you say if you think dilution will influence perception, please let us know :D
Hashtag is on my keyboard Shift+3 (upper numbers)
Me too, all sent! I'll pm you PK's addy, mumsy ;)
Gosh, I do hope I didn't screw up. I had a client call in between making the packs and only PK's was ready before the meeting :embarassed: So I...
It's okay, sweetie  And I know and appreciate that it comes from a big heart.
Just trying to keep it like I've envisioned it. If it doesn't work, we'll adjust afterwards ;)
Dear kind peeps,
How lovely of you to offer to send BAGreat samples, very generous and sweet :engel017:
But please please do me a big favor and do this as a private act of kindness?
Just a quick question: in which country are you based?
Good FO suppliers are either IFRA members or distribute products from bigger suppliers that are members. They would be able to...
So sorry to hear about this :( I do hope you'll be able to join us next time
Okay guys, we're down to us 6, meaning 5x 3 packs to ship. It's not likely for me to make it to the post office...
Not dim at all.
Yes, indeed, you send 6 packs of each of the 3 materials to all other 6 participants. Everyone should also receive 18 different other materials from the 6 other participants for...
Wanted to add this for people sending pure materials or materials that are diluted, but need to be diluted further.
Please add in this thread if the material needs (further) dilution for a proper...
Well said, Adam :vrolijk_26:
More the merrier indeed, very valuable advice has already been given. I tip my hat off to everyone who does this, cos it's A LOT of work and it takes time and skill to make a profit, like Graphite...
Sorry to hear that, handsome :( Hopefully next sniff ;)
Okay, so I'll be pm-ing everyone, as I haven't heard from you guys.
Here is a play by play:
Irina, The Netherlands; will be...
How is everyone doing?
The sign up is closing today so early tomorrow morning - due to time differences today ends at different hours ;) - I will post a list of the final participants.
You're welcome, Paul :) They are perfect for training classes. Enjoy yours, they are huge fun! :)
You're welcome :)
For my beginners students I recommend this one:
My thoughts exactly! Sounds like a great plan :)
Those are fab, Paul :)
Thank you for participating and chatting with me :)
I still need to decide on my choice....
This is so exciting :D
There is also a chance of receiving doubles LOL
Sounds great :)
Dear Adam, that is lovely of you to offer, but the problem has been resolved.
As long as everyone posts no ethanol dilutions, ethanol tinctures, crystals, flammable or too strong materials, we are...
Please note that it is not a rule to send only pure materials. If they are too costly, too strong (please don't send any 100% Geosmin! LOL) or flammable or can pose trouble if...
Does this agreement work for you though?
Everyone ok with this?
Dear Mumsy, you shouldn't worry so much.
Here are the rules peeps ;)
NO ALCOHOLIC TINCTURES
NO FLAMMABLE OR OTHERWISE RESTRICTED DUE TO LOW FLASH POINT AROMATICS (yes, this...
Next week Monday (September 2nd) I'll edit the final list of participants, including random numbers of their samples and information on pure/diluted materials or notes like materials needs to be...
Not necessarily, but you may do that. Chose whatever you have enough stock of and/or like and/or think would be educational. It's up to you, really.
Are the materials pure or diluted?
Do you dilute them, or send them pure?
That is very kind of you, Paul :)
If I may suggest to add such lovelies as extra's and not as part of the blind sniff? In order to protect the 'blind' aspect...
Great to havd you :) please don't worry, it's about smelling and I'm sure all participants love the sniffing experience and exchange in itself. Do you also have enough solvents? There might be pure...
Great thanks :) Do you have enough materials and solvents (ethanol, IPM, DPG)? Can you afford international shipping to probably at least 4 other people?
Great! :) Where do you live?
Totally agree, Mumsy.
Let's see if everyone has the right solvents at home. And also my experience with dilution that there is maturation process so that might delay the sniff or influence the...
Shout out to:
do you still want to join?
I understand, dear, thank you for getting back at me (good tip: I'll add the question in a reply for the others too!)
Force with the domestic issues and thank you for keeping an eye out for us :)
Thank you Adam & BAGreat! :vrolijk_26:
If we go with 1 group Mumsy's suggestion might work to cut down on shipping expenses:
designate 1 receiver per country that then distributes the samples...
