Made to Measure
At the moment, the one I have my sights set on - above all others - is Ormonde Jayne - Black Gold... A Harrods Exclusive
I love this one - one of the best warm-weather scents IMO. One of those feel-good scents. So glad I have this one.
For me, it's these as the top 5 in this order:
Scent of Peace for Him
I Love New York for Marriage Equality
Creed - Bois de Cedrat
Dior Homme / Intense. Smell pretty feminine. Other than that, not too many male scents would I like to smell on a woman to be honest. I like women to smell soft and sweet - florals and citruses. ...
Well, see... He started with a bottle of Perry Ellis 360° Red, and did the old water into wine trick... BAM! And since, in a way, he was the 1st Christian....
Clive Christian - No. 1
Encre Noire / Encre Noire Sport
Dior Homme Sport 2012 / 2008 / Cologne
Habit Rouge / Sport / Habit Rouge L'Eau
Not sure. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with when I quit smoking. It seemed to fill the void I guess. But I really can't explain why I buy so darn many.
Will probably be blind buying this at some point. Own 3 KC fragrance so far and love all 3 of them. I will add it to 4 other KC scents that are already on my "To Buy" list for purchase in the very...
Grey Vetiver (EDT)
If a scent gets any love at all, and looks like something I might have an interest in, I get a sample. If I like it, I buy it.
If a sample is not easily available, then I will blind buy it - but...
I get into that funk once in a while, but it doesn't last long. Usually just a passing mood - the next day I am on Luckyscent figuring out what I'm going to buy next.
Agree with this.
That's a good suggestion
Agree. While not my favorite vetiver (or even in my top 10), it is a nice twist and very good one to wear every now and then.
I have only worn it once, but I didn't get any similarities to SMW. Interesting comparison to Lalique White - I will need to wear this again soon, and maybe do a side-by-side to see if I pick up the...
Great, another Aventus thread!
I haven't seen any sales figures, so this is just a guess - based on "premature" discontinuation, but I would say:
Tom Ford - Amber Absolute
Armani Prive - Cedre Olympe
Civet + Musk = Not for Me
Huh. That sounds pretty interesting. Hope it comes out soon - would love to give that a try.
Light. Airy. Masculine. Floral.
Generally you can only get 2 out of those - maybe 3.
It works just fine in a suit & tie.
Personally, I really like this Montale. It comes off almost soapy initially. It's not bold. It's not challenging. It's not an attention seeker. A subtle musky / soapy vibe for an understated...
It is very dark and earthy - like wet dirt in a forest. It is a very interesting smell for sure, but not something that one should necessarily smell like. In fact I actually find this one a little...
If some people's skin absorbed 1/2 of what they seem to think it does... they would probably be dead.
Terrible smell IMO - but yes, it is very dark. Good call.
VE is certainly in my Top 10 of vetiver scents. GV would struggle to crack my Top 20.
In no particular order:
Diptyque - Tam Dao
Chanel - Bois des Iles
biehl parfumkunstwerke - eo02
Creed - Himalaya
Mathat - SantL
1) Creed - Royal Scottish Lavender
2) Serge Lutens - Encens et Lavande
3) Czech & Speake - Oxford & Cambridge
The Malle lineup has some real winners IMO, but many of them left me underwhelmed. Like almost every other house. Overall it sure doesn't seem to go under-appreciated.
I love these, but I generally don't wear them out:
PR 1 Million
PR Black XS
After reading your review I went to look for my sample, and realized that I don't think I have ever tried it! It is now on my list of samples to be ordered soon. I really thought I had tried this...
The Different Company
I bought a backup last year when the rumors started flying...
Can never seem to go 2 weeks without buying something. Not long ago, I almost always had something in transit to me. Trying to slow it down a bit. Trying.
I find a lot of vetivers to be very versatile. Some great crossover scents in my collection:
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
Les Nez Turtle Vetiver Back
Bois d'Armenie. Doesn't get much attention, but I really like this one.
I have 10ml of the woman's version. It's nice, but I like the Men's version more - very glad I have a bottle of that.
I love my collection. It has no holes. But I am still not satisfied apparently, since I still keep buying and buying...
It is uncommon for me to go to the fragrance department in any store. It is even more uncommon for me to do anything but tell them what I wan't, since I almost NEVER go into a store without knowing...
I am wearing AdG Essenza today as a matter of fact. I would recommend Essenza over the regular Acqua di Gio if possible.
Also love The One. Not sure if it would be great in the heat, but it is...
One that come to my mind also.
A little "darker", but SHL777 Black Gemstone may be worth a look too. And possibly CdG Wonderwood.
Best amber fragrance ever. Still not sure why it was discontinued - must have been a slow seller.
Do you want to smell nice, or be cologne guy? Do you want to smell good when people are close, or do you want to scream for attention to everyone within 30 feet?
As others have mentioned, it...
Acqua di Gio Essenza
Agree - except for maybe the compliment department. They smell great IMO, but don't remember getting too many compliments with either (except for my wife who loves RSL on me), but they are both...
Spring 2015... Most looking forward to at this moment...
Clive Christian - 1872 for Him
The Different Company - De Bachmakov
Armani Privé - Vetiver Babylone
AdG - Essenza
Creed - Windsor
Green Valley if you can find it.
Millesime 1849 if you can find it.
Spice & Wood if you want to settle for a split to keep it in your price range
Agree - one of my favorites that have come out in the last few years for sure! But I think I am leaning toward 2022 Generation Homme lately as my favorite from SHL777.
Nice review - keep up the good work!
+1 Cedrat Boise
+1 Kumkat Wood
I would add:
Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777
In my church, they replaced the holy water with Aventus last year. Female attendance doubled.
Neither is remotely "masculine" IMO, but DHI would come much closer to masculine since the iris / "women's make-up" vibe is greatly diluted with vanilla.
Tie between: Xerjoff Zafar and nu_be Mercury
But dishonorable mention goes to:
I have only given it one full wearing, and it's been a little while since I have worn it, but I was not that impressed with this one actually.
It comes off like a very spicy amber at first, but...
Yep. While it doesn't quality as one of my biggest regrets, it sure fell far short of expectations. Just smelled like a cheap variant of Lubin Idole. Not a terrible scent, but left me a bit...
212 H2O for Men
OM is sort of a beast. So, unless it has been reformulated recently, I think you need to try it on it's own.
Must haves? No!
Must tries? Yes.
No, I don't get a whole lot of similarity with PE from Himalaya either. Paco XS is the closest to Himalaya like others have mentioned.
Creed Spice & Wood
Clive Christian 1872
PdM - Byerley
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
"Noir" and "Extreme" both in the name. Only way they could get more trendy would be to make it a Harrods exclusive.
Really interested in trying this one now - nice review. However, I just looked at Luckyscent, and it doesn't look like they have this one yet. I hope they get this in soon.
Nice! This one and 2022 Generation Homme are my favorites from this house -- and among my absolute favorites in my whole collection. Well done!
1st thing I thought of.
Terre d'Hermès Parfum
Citrus is Annick Goutal's forte IMO.
I wore the EDT last night. Very nice scent. I am curious to try the EDP now - I don't think I realized there were 2 concentrations.
I see a lot of people compare it to GPHII. I certainly see...
Well, I rarely wear anything more than once every few months, so I doubt anyone associates me with any single scent. I think my wife would remember me most by Aventus, since that is her favorite on...
I absolutely love Himalaya. Is is extremely classy, and somewhat versatile (but I only find myself wearing it in the summer months usually). This can be worn on a beach or in an office or anywhere...
I hope this is for real!
Dirty English - reminds me of camping with my family as a kid. We would go camping for 4 days every summer around the 4th of July. This fragrance wasn't around back then, and I don't know why I...
Love both personally. About the same. The One lasts longer, but scent-wise I enjoy both about the same.
I would say that if you need something for the winter, get Manhattan, and if you need something for the summer, get SoPfH.
Personally, I like SoPfM much better, but Manhattan is one of the better...
I spray my clothes all the time. No problems so far!
Possibly Armani Privé Oud Royal, Teo Cabanel Barkhane, or HdP 1899 Hemingway.
When I think of the Armani Privé line, "smooth" is one of the first things I think of.
Well, from your list, I would say Windsor is the most demure.
1872 projects much better than Windsor. Black Line and the BN9s are a beast by comparison. However, if you want classy / elegant,...
Clive Christian L for Men
1st wearing. I finally got my hands on a sample.
Not sure exactly when it was discontinued, but M7 Fresh seemed to be available one day and gone the next.
99.9% positive feedback for the seller would sure help to convince me that it's legit.
Same here - they are very similar.
Me neither. Nothing skanky that I detect.
I don't really think of it as very masculine. I think it is right down the middle personally, so if you decide you like it, certainly give it a go.
TF Black Orchid
TdH doesn't strike me personally as a dated scent, but everyone's associations are different. Certainly worth adding to the collection IMO.
Yeah, lasts a long time, and projects quite well for me too. Much like D&G The One, this one is a victim of people's olfactory fatigue.
