What is it with creed Lavender and Scotland???
There is no lavender industry in scotland
Royal Scottish Aberdeen nonsense
My "medicine water" accord is made from:
Eucalyptus (2 types)
Touch of vanilla
Eau de Menton. Cheap and excellent lemony goodness. Check it out....
Also consider DR Harris freshening cologne. A seriously acidic lemon.
There are quite a few miniatures of the original floating about too.
It is a truly brilliant frag. One I could easily live with every day for life...
They are owned by the same company which has cheapened penhaligons frags formulae massively.
It's both stupid, and in my opinion deceitful to take a house (or two) which has built its reputation...
Vetiver scents are often axed because they often don't sell that well.
Vetiver scents are often released because they are easy (cheap) to formulate and produce.
It's just habituation. Like how you stop to hear a ticking clock. Basically you are set up to process changes in the environment so consistent things are ignored to allow attention for other things...
Old spice whitewater
Eau de Menton
Aquatics have moved from the latest fashionable thing where Aqua di Gio was literally everywhere you put your nose and become integrated into the body of possibilities. So the age of the aquatic was...
Tauer incense extreme
A little water seems to sometimes effect the odour strength a tiny bit at the front end (maybe by slowing evaporation?)
R de Capucci
Doing your "toilette" means to do your grooming and preparation for the day. This includes using the "toilet" (English version), washing, shaving, brushing hair etc.
Eau de toilette is your scented...
I just sprayed some and was reminded also of the agrestic quality. There is a sunny thyme note there right at the beginning.
I have vintage (1980s) aftershave and a modern edt. Much credit goes to Aramis as this is still a really wonderful fragrance.
Green with aldehydic florals, dry chypre accords and animalics, this...
Just to say I made a tincture of fresh garden mint leaves - just bought a little pack or two from the supermarket and put in alcohol for a few months.- and I'm
stunned by how useful it is.
The formula list for PPH is long and complicated. It doesn't closely relate to a note list.
I have smelled Jean Kerleo's own effort at reconstruction of PPH which he did in 2011. In his words, there are many many ingredients which cannot be used or are not available anymore. Oakmoss and...
Do you have an idea what specifically has changed? And when? My bottle is about 7-8 years old and doesn't seem a beast (other than some castoreum)
Crazy massive musk dry down which smells a bit salty. Funny top notes of citrus and oceanic notes. It's all a bit out of balance. I really love it though.
Unbelievable longevity on the dry down but...
Barry is the man. Great to see you here sharing your knowledge.
I would cut my foot off for a few ml of that extrait,,,
Is there an ingredient list? As I say it looks like my bottle which is less than 10 years old.
Is there a reason people think it looks older?
It looks very similar to the current/last ten years bottle to me. Am I missing something?
What's the stopper made of!
Shomouk smells great for about 15 minutes and then becomes dominated by an overwhelming and somewhat synthetic smelling musk.
Tribute smells great but is very powerful and all too easy to overdo....
Great fragrances but sold with cynical lies and evil marketing - especially out of the us marketing project.
Gold leaf my arse. Gold coloured plastic more like -I remember peeling it off a bottle...
Classic - lime
Freshening - lemon
Traditional - orange
All ok - none top quality. I like the heavy acid in freshening. The musk in all of them is prominent and somewhat cheap.
I like the green...
I love "soap"
Niño ceruti pour homme (original)
Trumpers Spanish leather
Creed original vetiver
I'll come back with more when I think of them..
I recently bought a bottle of the latest edt and have say that I think it is absolutely excellent and a definite improvement on the previous formula.
As a veteran with not a great deal of time to post/read these days my opinion is that it is still very cool here. Some excellent oldies are still around and there seems to mostly be a decent level of...
Polo is sheer genius
Ha! Very funny response by Turin. Much of this is regurgitated from an earlier piece 7 or 8 years ago from the same writer. This is not a straightforward and accurate account of an interview.
Profumo.it Cuba Express
With natural absolute of rum. Powerful and fantastic
Guerlain Heritage - recent formulation EDT. Seems better than previous one. Really wonderful woodiness.
Xerjoff modoc - mild vetiver and iris. Brilliant why hasn't anyone thought of this before -...
Eau de Hermes - older versions particularly have lots of civet in a citrus cologne.
Both are very present scents. Smw seems to cause very significant olfactory fatigue in lots if people - it's linear and strong with a honking loud high- mid range punch.
MI seems to baffle because...
He is a top class perfumer and genuinely uses the best ingredients available. I know everyone says that but he really does.
Not huge monetary value I'm afraid.
I know all except the hypnose. I'm afraid none of these reflect the quality of R or Punjab. Sang Royal is an orange pepper and musk if I recall.
I don't know...
Trumpers Spanish Leather.
L'artisan scents have an odd sort of strength, I think. It's not up front but a kind of low level persistent push - more of a tortoise than a hare if you like. You think they are not there but then 6...
Thanks for that brilliant info Pluran - and all you guys.
Spend some money on the formulae instead.
Its OK, you don't need to watch. I'll summarise:
The story of fragrances:
...good fragrances.......IFRA........bad fragrances all made but a few companies from their own ingredients. The end.
In my opinion Trumpers is far and away the highest quality British house nowadays. Floris have one or two good compositions made from fairly ordinary ingredients and many very obvious and poor ones. ...
Partial or full - cash or many swap possibilities.
The translation of the French name for limes is "green lemons". Not a bad thing to bear in mind when making lime frags in my experience.
Lime (distilled) EO is very powerful and can easily overwhelm so dilute it down to somewhere between 1 % and 10% first then you can effectively control the dose.
I have found that a good usable...
Great stuff. I'm sure you have earned it....
I'll join the chorus pestering for decants ;-)
That is a little odd. I hadn't noticed before...
Send it back to fragrance net saying the juice has gone bad
There have been numerous spelling and grammatical mistakes over the years in creeds shoddy packaging. I pointed one out to the official distributor 5 or 6 years ago and he confirmed that all boxes in...
They can control longevity and silage but only by selecting different materials It's to do with the weight of the molecules. Light molecules like citrus evaporate fast - therefore have good fast...
I have this. You just screw on the refill bottle. It comes with 2 spare 20ml bottles.
Penhaligons have dropped in quality sharply over the last few years. The juice has been squeezed very hard too - in my opinion it is no longer worthy of their name. Very cheap ingredients now.
Truefitt & Hill Grafton Cologne is VERY soapy.
Please try it on you travels.
David, do you do a shield soap? If so, which one?
I have strong memories of the mid-late 70s advertising....
There is just much more knowledge and experience here.
You are right of course that skin is different - there is absorption and rubbing off. However, that level of epic endurance on paper does suggest some seriously big sticky molecules.
Royal Oud has a woody-amber dry down (which is not oud) which literally lasted over a month on a smelling strip on my coat pocket. It is identical to the dry down note of wood and spice.
Patou pour Homme
Creed Bois de Santal
R de Capuccu.
I wish I had some extrait.
I only have edt and I wear it occasionally - very rarely in fact. But I love to smell it. It turns me into a melancholic romantic.
I loved that old xeryus. I remember clearly when they changed it after just a couple of years. Lost loads of balls - just shows that reformulations are not exclusively a modern problem.
R de Capucci
Cacharel pour homme
Probably more. Can't remember right now.
I had exactly the same reaction. Didn't like these frags before I knew why. Figured out it was the Iso later on.
The EDT is a classic men's fougere, of the slightly cheap variety, which in itself is not a bad thing (love Brut). It has surprisingly low levels of spice for an "opium". The cap lists the notes as...
There is a type of frankincense which behaves as a base note - it is rich, balsamic and quite woody in a coniferous way. It supports rose in quite an exquisite way. Can anyone shed any light on what...
It's not big brother. It's corrupt, unaccountable capitalism. The political power is bought through money and the power comes with a license to print money.
The people who make the decisions stand...
Myrrh resin, like the oil, is very powerful and can smell nasty and bitter in large doses. If I were blending an incense mixture I would probably use at least ten times the volume of Frankincense as...
Ah thanks. The link on the front page had gone and the search function doesn't doesn't find it.
I notice that this oil is no longer available on the hermitage site
Habit rouge eau de cologne
Derby (all versions)
Mouchoir de Monsieur (vintage)
L'instant de Guerlain EDP
Please see my post on the other Zino thread.
Changes in bottles often do indicate reformulation - frags are made in batches and are matched in smell to reference samples by perfumers. This has to be done on each batch because ingredients vary,...
That's a rare one. I remember a basenotes member called Eluard getting hold of one about 5 years ago and posting some great pictures Haven't seen one since.
Definitely 100% vintage juice.
Neal, C&S actually owned the formula for 88 so they are very close, you are correct. there is less top notch sandalwood now and the rose oils are not quite what they were. But it is very close. ...
I love Cuba.
C&S moved manufacture from the brilliant Forester of Milan to the uk a few years back (maybe 2005???). This was a cost saving exercise and the formulae while still very good, were...
Interesting comments, thanks Chris.
I find it strange how polarising this fragrance is. In my experience this is a good fragrance. It is made of good ingredients and has a decent, if not outstanding composition. It has interesting...
Vintage AMOUAGE gold men
That is good to hear. Are you familiar with other ouds?
This oud has a much lower intensity of smell, it has a less complex smell and its endurance is very low compared to other pure oils I know....
Has anybody else tried this oil? Or will vouch for this company? Particularly, anyone with experience of this and other ouds?
I have several ouds from trusted sources. This oud is very...
Has anybody tried the hermitage oud oil? They say it is a farmed oil; to me it is hugely lacking in strength and complexity and I....well...
Anyone else have any experience with this...?
Please sample Trumper's Eucris. I think it may be exactly what sir requires.
I think the standard way is to do it by mass not volume. So you will need some excellent scales....
This works very very well. It is ultimately quite a simple idea of amber and ambroxan with lots of incense. It is very well realised - I particularly like the way it seems perfectly balanced and yet...
The point is that if anybody brings a law suit against you for causing them allergies etc, if you have not followed "industry guidelines" you will automatically lose. Therefore the guidlines are, in...
Well as I stated on another thread, I bought some ambergris tincture from Dominique Dubrana (Profumo.it).
I requested it in stronger concentration so it is more flexible to use - I can dilute myself...
I had about 1 ml previously or a little less. I'm not sure of the concentration though. My experience then was that a few drops in a small blend (maybe 15-20ml) had a profound effect on the perfume...
I've just bought some real ambergris tincture from profumo.it - I'm very excited and looking forward to experimenting with it. I will report my experiences here.
Anybody else used the real thing?...
As a general rule many many of the very best fragrances can be found for that price by watching eBay and the discount perfume sites like cheap smells, duty free perfumes etc.
So maybe it would be...
Seek out older bottles on eBay. They used to be a LOT better.
Yeah plenty of ambroxan too. Another reason love them. Loads of dihydromyrcenol in aventus, neroli sauvage and several more.
I like it a lot. But then I love dihydromyrcenol. That's why I love creeds too.
It's not hard to make good smelling things. It is very hard to make great smelling things.
Start simple with notes you know work together. Sandalwood and rose or a basic chypre ( bergamot, oakmoss,...
Good bergamot should easily blend with almost anything. It's the universal top note for just this reason.
Lavender can be problematic, especially the absolute. The richer and more floral the...
Yes , Yardley, sorry.
Thanks Mike. I have just acquired a vintage bottle - will report when I've checked it out.
If you are looking for a jasmine dominant scent then The Pour Un Ete by L'Artisan works very well for us men.
Many complex designer scents from the pre-aquatic era have floral hearts with jasmine....
Does anyone have any experience of this fougere?
