Added Egoiste Concentree and much more
Yesterday morning in the check out line at a local convience store...
Chanel Allure Homme Sport
Girl behind me in line: "I'm sorry, but you smell so good, what cologne are you wearing?"
Ferragamo Pour Homme
I got the most enthusiastic, and unexpected compliment I've ever received
from a fragrance earlier this afternoon...guess what, it was AVENTUS...
I went into a local convenience store to buy a 12...
Good Reformulations (better than the originals IMO)
Hermes Bel Ami
Neutral Reformulations (Meh...)
Dior Homme Intense
Allure Homme Sport, by a wide margin
Bump, lowered prices, added items.
You have chosen wisely with Prada Amber Pour Homme.
I think it would be a great high school age scent.
I doubt anyone at your school will be wearing it,
and I can't imagine it being offensive....
It's hard to beat this one for the price.
You can get a 100ml bottle for less than $60
and it's on par with the best designers and even
some niche fragrances in terms of quality.
In a way, I feel bad for Aventus, lol.
It has become a legendary compliment-getter scent,
I'm sure with good reason, but like others, I've worn it a lot (a good batch too)
and never been...
It's extremely overrated. The EDT has much better projection and longevity,
and is a much better scent overall, IMO.
It's nice to read someone else's first impressions of Invasion Barbare.
It's a fragrance that haunts me. It is my "holy grail" yet I have such
a hard time justifying owning a 60ml bottle that...
Vintage Versace L'Homme.
The opening is extremely harsh to me, even bitter, but the heart
and drydown are pure quality.
Heritage is my favorite of the Guerlain's I've owned/sampled so far.
I've used about 30% of the 100ml bottle I have, so it's probably my most
worn fragrance, along with the likes of Rive Gauche...
Not a bad scent at all, especially for the price.
As many have said, it's in the gourmand category.
If I had to describe it, it's like a synthetic cross
between Rochas Man and La Nuit, but not as...
Two sprays to the chest, in the same spot.
One spray to the back of the neck, and one spray on
*Don't do this with powerhouse fragrances, like Aventus, Bogart Pour Homme, etc....
Both are very good, however, for your needs, I think Bleu de Chanel
is the way to go. It's more versatile than AHS IMO, more of a year
round scent at any rate.
I would consider myself far from a Creed fanboy, but I have to admit that several of their
fragrances are truly excellent. Among those I would count the following (of which I either have
I never have, but I would if I was truly interested in the scent they were wearing.
Where I live, most males wear after shave, or, at best, something like Le Male
or Acqua di Gio--not that there's...
Silver Mountain Water
Recently acquired this from a fellow basenoter, and couldn't be happier.
I think it is my favorite Creed now, ahead of GIT and Aventus.
I'd had a sample vial for years, but had never experienced it...
Sold bottles of Vintage PdN New York, and current version Egoiste EDT.
Regret both decisions, especially the PdN New York.
But, at the time, didn't realize New York had been reformulated.
Another vote for:
Prada Amber Pour Homme
Personally I love it, even though I've never been complimented on it.
When my decant runs out, I'll definitely try to get my hands on some more
if I can afford it. I think it's a pretty unique...
In case your Aventus decant hasn't arrived by then...
Otherwise, go with Aventus.
I've owned both as well, and as others have said, there
is no need to hunt down the vintage, unless it is the Cologne Concentree.
I've never sampled that one, but I think it would be worth...
Off-Scenter (sorely missed)
I had sample vials of GIT, and thought it was nice, but not bottle-worthy.
Trust me when I say this: you need to experience Creed fragrances from a sprayer
to truly appreciate them--just like...
Tiffany for Men was made for such an occasion.
I'll also second the nominations for:
PdN New York
and Invasion Barbare
As others have said, nothing at all wrong with Curve.
I've worn it in the past, and used to like it. It's cheap too.
However, if you can, I would strongly recommend sampling
Rive Gauche Pour...
I can only add my agreement on the strength and projection of Aventus.
I got in on a 50ml decant/split of Aventus here a while back, and it is
clearly the strongest fragrance I own now, and on par...
Based on your description of yourself and what you are looking for in a fragrance:
Prada Amber Pour Homme
Rive Gauche Pour Homme
Lanvin L'Homme is the ultimate...
I would like to offer my 2 cents on this topic, as I unknowingly sold what was a vintage
bottle earlier this year...
The one I had had the "New York, Eau de Toilette" in blue on the front of the...
Meant to post this one when it happened a couple of months ago but forgot.
Went to lunch with an attractive female friend of mine (she's 40 btw).
As we are walking out of the restaurant, I open...
I would agree with Koala's recommendation. I haven't smelled the most recent formulation of Versace L'Homme,
but based on my experience with reformulations, I wouldn't recommend it.
I have no clue why you can't see the picture I posted earlier in this thread.
I can see it fine. I uploaded the picture to imageshack and linked to the image, so
if I take another picture, and...
I won't be home until tomorrow, so I can't take a picture of it right now,
but it looks exactly like the bottle and box I have pictured earlier in the thread.
It's the 1st reformulated version of...
As another posted already pointed out, be sure to check the women's fragrance section
at TJ Maxx. Today I saw several bottles of Versace's the Dreamer in the women's section,
along with Azzaro...
I picked up a 3.4oz Marc Jacobs Bang at my local TJ Maxx
last week for $24.99. Couldn't believe they had the 3.4oz
priced that cheaply. They had about 4 more in stock as well.
That's a really...
I'm glad that my review was helpful, and I hope that the person you ordered this for enjoys Versace L'Homme.
As you can tell, I think it's an excellent fragrance, especially for the price.
Yes. It's horrible.
Stay far, far away...
I think it's a really good scent.
About this time last year, I was sitting on two
bottles of the stuff, one BNIB and one missing about 10 sprays.
I wound up selling one and swapping the other.
Icy + Metallic = Platinum Egoiste
I don't find LIDGE overly sweet at all, and it's certainly not as sweet as Play Intense, to my nose anyway.
I don't even think it's as sweet as LIDG EDT.
Play Intense on the other hand is a very...
I've owned both and prefer Egoiste by far.
But, my experience with Bois des Iles is limited to current
Exclusifs edition, which apparently is inferior compared to vintage versions.
Tiffany for Men
Knize Ten Golden Edition
Divine L'Homme Sage
Any of these would be good choices:
Cuir de Lancome
Rive Gauche Pour Homme
Azzaro Pour Homme
Ferre Bergamotto Marino
Caswell Massey Sandalwood
That's what I am trying to tell myself, lol.
I paid $260 shipped from luckyscent for the bottle I got, and I wound up selling it for $215.
That's more of a loss than I would have liked, but not...
I do still have the same feelings for Invasion Barbare, however, I wound up selling
it last night, and ship it out to another basenoter this morning.
I just had a hard time justifying owning such...
This is one of the few fragrances whose reformulation
is an improvement over the vintage version.
The reformulation had better longevity and projection
than the vintage, for me, and I prefer the...
+1 for Opus 1870
I'd also recommend Divine L'homme de Coeur.
I think it's the best iris-based masculine fragrance on the market,
better than bottles such as MPG's Iris Bleu Gris and Dior Homme....
In retrospect, I shouldn't have chosen 85 degree weather to test my decant of Antaeus
last spring (and I shouldn't have used 5 sprays either). I thought I was going to suffocate.
Infusion all the way
I'll join the ranks of those who remain unimpressed with this one.
I recently made a swap in which I got a 10ml decant of this,
and I can't wait to get rid of it. A relentlessly cloying mess.
Another resounding recommendation for:
Tiffany for Men
MPG Santal Noble
HdP 1725 Casanova
Creed Green Irish Tweed
Knize Ten/Knize Ten Golden Edition
MDCI Invasion Barbare
Creed Bois du Portugal
Comme de Garcons Wonderwood
Rarely, and I mean RARELY, do I get compliments from women on fragrances.
Got an unsolicited compliment from an attractive cashier I see everyday
at a local convenience store.
She said, "You...
Congratulations! Non-smokers have no idea how hard it is to quit.
I got into the fragrance hobby shortly after I quit (with Chantix too).
But, I only stayed off the sticks for 6 months. Went...
Glad to hear your thoughts as well. Sounds like there's not much need to track down the vintage.
I think the reissue is a really nice fragrance.
I don't think I would ever pay the $170 for a...
Received Windsor and Cologne Pour le Soir splits today.
Fast shipping, great packaging as always. Thanks again :)
The reason I used Gucci Guilty, Musk Ravageur and Invasion Barbare in my comparison is because
these fragrances are perfect examples of what qualifies as "designer" and "niche" in my mind.
Divine L'homme de Coeur--from a decant
Best masculine Iris I've ever tried.
Glad you like it, and glad it arrived quicker than expected :)
It's a really good fragrance, I just never seemed to reach for it though.
I'm glad someone will get good use out of it.
I like the re-release as well, and was lucky enough
to get good deal on a partial bottle from a fellow basenoter recently.
I think it's an excellent fragrance, but not worth the
$170 per 3.4...
Caswell Massey Sandalwood Cologne
Haha! Me too :)
But, if I had to pick a fragrance or two:
Gucci Pour Homme II
I have to say that I love this one as well.
But, then again, I like animalic fragrances, so take what I say with
a grain of salt.
I ordered a bottle of this one blind, and I really liked it,...
I am probably in the minority here, but...
Maitre Parfumer et Gantier
For the most part, the fragrances are excellent,
Santal Noble, Ambre Preicieux, Eau de Iles, etc. etc.
But, the bottles...
I'd let them smell something like Gucci Guilty for Men,
then I'd let them sample something like
Musk Ravegeur, or Invasion Barbare, and watch in
amusement as their mind is blown...
Bought this one blind as a bat.
Just got it via UPS this morning and
wore it as my SOTD, and I really like it...a lot.
I don't think I'm going out on too much of a limb
by saying it's the best...
I'm sorry that I didn't update my post, but someone has already
taken the Romance Silver earlier this afternoon :(
I still have Halston Unbound, and I will also give away
a bottle of Cuba...
I also have Halston Unbound 3.4oz 99% full with box
that I'd be glad to send to a good home as well.
Added Cuba Gold 3.4oz with cap and can/99% full
Couldn't agree more with everything you said.
Basenotes is like an oasis for me, and I'm sure many other men who feel the same way.
This is a great thread :) I probably have at least 5 or 6 bottles that
I should post here, but all are masculine fragrances--not sure that many women
would enjoy them.
I will go ahead and post...
Sorry to hear that Versace L'Homme didn't work out for you :(
Even if you had the most recent formulation, I don't think the
vintage versions would work for you either due to the leathery/birtch...
Does anyone else find it a bit ironic that Polge's best
masculine fragrances (aside from the notable Egoiste)
were composed for Tiffany and Ungaro, and not Chanel?
I don't always get compliments on my fragrance, but when I do, it's been:
Chanel Allure Homme Sport
L'instant de Guerlain EDT
(in that order)
Out of the 2 you mentioned: Terre D'Hermes
The one I would recommend by far: Prada Amber Pour Homme
I ordered a small decant of the re-issue as well from
the Perfumed Court about 2 months ago. I've worn
it 4 times and it's almost gone now.
Like others, I don't get the hype. It's a quality...
I don't see it in either list of fragrances you have tried.
I wouldn't classify it as animalic, but it is a dark, green, leathery chypre
to my nose, and something you might like....
I think the reason the regular Pour Monsieur is not more readily available in the U.S.
is all down to marketing. I'm not really sure why, but it seems that Chanel has made
a decision to push the...
I feel the same way, but wouldn't have been able to express my thoughts
so eloquently. I'd be interested to hear any further observations you have
on this one. I recently got a large decant of a...
Picked up a 3.4oz bottle of:
Colors for Men, by Benetton at TJ Maxx for $12.99
Smells really good, and seems like it will turn out to be a good
Got Aventus today, great packaging as always. Thanks again.
Yes (you could do much worse)
Haven't tried the Extreme version
Nicolai Pour Homme
As others have already said, Sung Homme is Irish Spring Soap in an atomizer...
Divine L'Homme Sage
Green Irish Tweed
Nicolai Pour Homme
