All I know is the sample I got from Frederic Malle a few months ago smells fantastic. And that's all I care about.
Ten I like, that are rarely talked about:
Lush Breath of God
Amouage Honour Man
Dueto City Oud
Olympic Orchids Dev One
L'Artisan Voleur de Roses
Aramis Calligraphy Rose
Terre d'Hermes Parfum
Rive Gauche Pour Homme
Tom Ford Sahara Noir
This was one of my favorite episodes. I watched it right around the same time there were a few actives threads on real ambergris in the General forum so I was very excited when I saw the episode...
I put one extra spray on my hand last night at around 10pm. I took a shower this morning and have washed my hands many times today. I can STILL smell it. My initial impressions were off.
Nice! Thanks for the heads up.
It most certainly did. I very much enjoyed it today.
Oh what I wouldn't give to smell this.
Encre Noire. I had it, never used it, and ended up getting rid of it. Then one day I found a sample in a drawer and it reminded me how much I really liked it. I much prefer Sycomore now, however.
I find them to be pretty well in line with the average EDP. Not too strong, but certainly stronger than most designer EDTs.
Following up Rose Flash, Vanilla Flash and Vetiver and Petitgrain Splash, Andy Tauer has released today Incense Flash. From Olfactif, the exclusive launch partner:
"It's here: the third and...
Do you have any experience with the original? Interested to hear your thoughts.
I think I'm gonna wear Sel Marin as my SOTD tomorrow. I bought a sample vial of Sel Marin awhile back and I wasn't...
Thanks for the reply.
I'm guessing it's worth what people will pay for it. Glad to know how old it is, the oakmoss is very prominent in this bottle.
I tried spraying some on a perfume testing strip, letting it sit for awhile and smelling later. It worked! I could only smell it for the first couple of smells, but it was woody, sweet and smooth. I...
After letting this sit on for several hours, I can say longevity on Amber Absolute seems very good. It's probably louder than I think, too.
Rive Gauche Pour Homme, Sycomore, Azzara Pour Homme, Grey Vetiver and finally City Oud.
I finally got a chance to try the new Amber Absolute, from a decant, and I have mixed feelings. For starters, it's plenty strong, but not nearly as strong as I was hoping. I'd love for one spray to...
I recently got a decant of some ISO E Super with another decant I purchased and it doesn't smell like anything.
Now I've read plenty on ISO E, about how it comes and goes, and about how different...
I feel like I'm living in a 90s rollerblading ad. INTENSE! EXTREME! ULTRA!
I'd definitely try Pure Oud, Rose, Cinnamon, Spice and Metal, but I doubt I'd actually purchase them.
As I've recently started testing the Chanel Les Exclusifs line, I've been consistently surprised at the quality. Coromandel, Sycomore and Misia especially.
This is a tough choice. How often can I reapply?
Have you tried the newest Fahrenheit? It's definitely lighter than it used to be. By quite a bit.
I'd look at 24 Gold, Hanae Mori HiM, L'Homme Intense, Valentino Uomo, Mugler Ultra Zest and Tom Ford Noir Extreme. From your signature, I would imagine London, La Nuit and Pure Malt would all work...
Lately I've been testing a Calling All Angels sample and it has me smelling my arm non stop.
If you want straight, heavy, beautiful frankincense, you want Sahara Noir.
Since it's been so cold, I've purchased decants of Herod and Amber Absolute. Also recently bought a vintage bottle of Azzaro Pour Homme and a sample of Gucci Pour Homme I, so I can finally see what...
I remember thinking something similar. In fact, I believe I started a thread about it. I read all the great reviews, saw the notes (tobacco, vanilla, cinnamon, incense, labdanum?! perfect!), and...
Already a ton of great recommendations. I'd have to pick based on where the temperature fell. From cool, to warm, to hot:
Eau Sauvage Parfum, Sycomore, Rive Gauche.
Like others have said, my interest in a particular fragrance tends to wax and wane. This week has been good for old favorites. I wore City Oud and fell in love with it again after not wearing it for...
Judging by the notes and how recent releases have turned out, if this didn't have "Azzaro Pour Homme" in the title no one would look twice.
Good news. When you're in Lush, make sure to sample Breath of God.
The notes for this look very nice. Is it as strong as other offerings from Lapidus?
Three of the best "with incense" fragrances out there.
This. Dior does not give two $%@# about what Basenotes has to say about any of their products. But smaller indie and niche brands and perfumers are active on YouTube, on Facebook groups and on...
Curious to know exactly when this splash bottle of Azzaro Pour Homme might be from and, considering there is ~65ml of perfume left, how much it might be worth? It doesn't smell off at all to me.
Cannot vouch for many of these, but you may want to try:
TF Tuscan Leather - La Yuqawam
TF Vanilla Tobacco - Eau Des Baux or maybe Tobacco 1812
Creed Aventus - Glenn Perri Unpredictable...
I didn't get Le Male as much as I got Fleur du Male.
Dior Bois D'argent might work.
Sahara Noir and Avignon are the best place to start. And end, in my opinion. But Lavs, Full Incense, M Generation, Bois d'Encens, and a few from Olympic Orchids Dev series are all worth testing.
Sycomore. Can't get enough of it lately.
Maybe we'll only see 5 new threads a day now.
I would love a site that uses manufacturer's samples, you pick three every month, you pay $15, you get the samples. I like the places like Scent Trunk have premium samples, but out of the 4 or so...
Check out Verde di Marde by Bois 1920. It's similar to Acqua di Gioa, but has a bit more depth and lasts forever.
I was looking at their selection and it's impossible to browse women designated fragrances without just searching. I had 25% off so I figured I'd give a month a shot with Black Orchid.
Interesting. I have Rose 31 oil, I'll have to try these next to each other.
I think my nose might be broken today. I figured out what Ambre Nuit reminds me of, Mauboussin M Generation. It smells...
At this rate, I'll never been done testing roses.
Today is Ambre Nuit. Off of just a bit from a sample, before putting on my scent of the day, I have to say this one scared me at first. The...
I'd take a look at L'Artisan Tea for Two and Tom Ford Cafe Rose.
That looks interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.
I very much enjoy the tamer oud notes found in Acqua di Parma Oud and Dior Oud Ispahan. And I also find them to be pretty similar after the smokiness in Oud Ispahan wears off. I'd love to find...
Funny that this should happen at the same time as Amber Absolute. Lucky for someone like me who missed out on these incense laden fragrances the first time.
It was my understanding that for some time now Dior Mitzah has been discontinued. Well, it's available now on Dior's website in 8.5oz bottles. Anyone know the deal behind this? I was wondering if...
I keep seeing mixed reports on the new stuff, ranging from it's a shell of its former self to +24 hours of longevity.
I'm not a fan. It smells similar to Platinum Egoiste to me, with a strong geranium note that comes off sharp. There's a certain creaminess I like in barbershop scents like Invasion Barbare and Rive...
One of the best brighter, greener vetivers I have had a the pleasure of trying. I think I might prefer the style of Encre Noire or Sycomore as far as vetiver goes, but I think both are essential to a...
Looking forward to spending time with:
Tom Ford Sahara Noir
Dior Oud Ispahan
Acqua di Parma Oud
YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme
Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady
L'Occitane Eau Des Baux
I like Oud Ispahan a lot. I just received a small decant to sample and I imagine I'll use it pretty quickly.
That's a great deal, especially considering how new it is.
Probably a full 50ml of Fahrenheit for $15.
Finally got a chance to try Oud Ispahan today. Very quickly shot up to the top of the ranks. Right off the bat, I kind of feel like the rose gives way to the oud a bit too easily, but this is overall...
Grey Vetiver and Eau Sauvage. Both very classy, inoffensive, and perfect for a warm day.
Anyone have any more feedback to share on this one yet? I keep seeing it pop up here and there receiving a lot of praise.
Acqua di Parma Oud. So strong.
To my nose, the patchouli isn't a major player. In fact, I don't get much coffee either. It's just a big, deep, spicy, resinous rose.
I have a small decant of Oud Ispahan coming in the mail (along...
I recently tried to come up with a top 20 list in general just for fun and struggled. I don't think I could come up with 20 I prefer in any weather.
Got to try Tom Ford's Cafe Rose today thanks to a very generous member and wow! I definitely prefer it over Noir de Noir. The rose note is very similar, but the incense and amber make it less...
*Men's* releases from 2010 onward certainly have been disappointing. I think Eau Sauvage Parfum is notable along with Dsquared2 Potion, maybe Tom Ford Noir (though it's not really great, just better...
Thank you. I'm leaning towards POAL myself.
Sahara Noir: A silk tent in the desert. It's night time, but the sand still radiates heat. Candles and lanterns cast light on bowls of spices, dried flowers and resins. The smell of incense is in the...
I'm getting married this fall and this has been a huge debate for me. I planned on making a poll at some point, but the early list is down to Portrait of a Lady and Eau des Baux, two of my SO's...
I've had to try Anais Anais a couple times to try to wrap my head around it. And I still feel like I can't really appreciate it. There are so many different types of florals in play, it's hard for me...
Out of all the roses I have tried, Rose d'Arabie is not one of them. But I know Armani makes excellent higher-end fragrances, and it comes highly recommended. Of course, all that really matters is if...
Thought I haven't tried it, maybe Acqua di Parma Colonia Club.
I'm assuming you've tried Aseel from Al Rehab? Dirt cheap and quite nice for the price.
I still can't decide what to make of only listing three notes in these fragrances from Dior. Especially since you know there's much more to it than that.
I need to sample it more, but I liked it. So did my SO.
I actually meant Pour Homme. Oops.
Portrait of a Lady is very masculine. Noir de Noir less so, but it's still very nice on a man.
You have a pretty diverse wardrobe. I didn't see any big rose fragrances though. Perhaps Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady would be a good start.
Le Labo must have seen this is a missed opportunity as well, since they are expanding availability of their city exclusives.
I went to Sephora this weekend and noticed something strange in the small Tom Ford section of the men's fragrances: Black Orchid. It even had its own fancy (I'm using the term loosely) glass display...
CK One Shock. Designer? Check. Amber base? Check. Strong projection and sillage? Check. Dirt cheap? Not that you asked, but check.
What is your current fragrance obsession?
Not your all time favorite, the one you reach for the most or the one you have the most of. But the one you can't stop smelling. Every time you walk past...
Yes. I would absolutely love to try the Aoud series, but alas. Missed opportunity indeed.
I would blind buy, but give it another week and people on Facebook will be selling $10 10ml decants like there's no tomorrow. That's more than enough to get a good feel for it, and know whether or...
For all the product placement you see in television and movies, there are still surprisingly few fragrance bottles strategically placed on nightstands and in bathrooms. It seems like fragrance...
Macy's finally has a listing for Sauvage. From the listing:
"A radically fresh composition, dictated by a name that has the ring of a manifesto. That was the way François Demachy, Dior...
I think opinions on both sides are very strong. So they feed each other.
Think of a perfume house like Serge Lutens. You rarely see anyone claiming Serge Lutens is the best house under the sun,...
Well that's horrible news. Can't say I'm entirely surprised though.
I find it quite different from Avignon. To use a visual description, if Avignon is the cold church after the incense was burned some time ago, Lavs is the warm church with smoke still in the air. I...
My goodness. Here's to a speedy recovery.
Hmm. Eau Des Baux has a vanilla, cream and soda kind of smell. It also has some beautiful woods and incense. That could work. Or maybe Frapin 1697, Bentley Intense, or Ambre Narguile.
I have put some older fragrances in and they do not show up. It says invalid code or something.
Wow! Thank you, that looks wonderful. I can only imagine how it smells.
For me, it depends on where you're talking about. And when. I am a big HP fan, so I'm probably way overthinking this, but I would think Tea for Two would be great for the warm, Christmasy atmosphere...
