Blue Sugar by Aquolina for me.
Blind bought a new fragrance Nike Brown for men. It was only $10 Aust for 100mL. It reminds me a bit of Borsalino Panama, though I haven't directly compared them.
Kouros - any version prior to the current reformulation
Montana Parfum d'homme and Salvador Dali pour Homme (tie)
Daphne by Lord's Jester (my wife's favourite, but definitely unisex)
Samarkand by the Body Shop
Bowling Green by Geoffrey Beene
Balenciaga pour homme
A lot of the colognes mentioned are quite expensive down here in Australia. The cheapies I see are:
1) Lomani pour homme (I have seen it as low as $5 a bottle)
2) Quorum ($15- $18)
3) One Man...
Got it today for $24 Aus. I have been wanting this for a while. The combination of grapefruit and cedar is awesome!
My ten, in no particular order except for Kouros, which is no.1
Montana parfum d'Homme
cK One (believe it or not)
Caron pour un Homme...
One Man Show
Lapidus pour Homme
Hi, I am wanting to get some aroma chemicals to supplement the essential and fragrant oils I have. Every year for the last 3 years I have made perfumes for Mothers day with my Grade 3 class. They...
Custo Barcelona Man, smells almost like pure neroli to me.
I love it. Salvador Dali reminds me of both Zino Davidoff and Witness by Jacques Bogart... but stronger. The best thing is I managed to score some 100mL bottles at $7.50. A top 5 fragrance for me.
I have nly even got two fakes on ebay and in one case received a genuine one as replacement and a full refund for the other.
Lagerfeld Classic is definitely a contender!!!
TDH is in the top 99% of fragrances I own. I got a bottle for $18.75, as a reference fragrance. I don't love it, in fact I think it is pretty over-rated. I wore it to work the other day and got a...
They have just started to appear in Australia at $14 for a gift set (100ml edt and 150 ml body wash). They are good, but not brilliant. Lambretta 47 starts off quite strongly and smells to me a bit...
I can't get past the awful bottle.
For my wife...
Prada Edp 50ml $10
Narciso Rodriguez Essence 50ml ep $10
on a clearance table... couldn't resist them at that price.
So many good suggestions already... I have to + 1 for Grey Flannel, Salvador Dali, Cool water, Lapidus pour Homme, plus also I suggest Quorum...which has to be about the best value cologne of all. ...
Guerlain vetiver...at first I did not like it at all... but as I experienced more fragrances I grew to love it.
I got a tester cheaply a a sale. This is a fruity fragrance, where the fruit is that abstract "can't really say which exact fruit it is" kind of way. Reminds me of a coss between cK Escape for men...
At a tester sale of a perfume store that is closing down:
(all EDT unless noted)
for a grand total of $100 I got...
D&G Homme 125ml 90%+ full
Michael Kors for men 125ml 80% full
I just got a bottle of this on Tuesday and am impressed. I am not sure if it is the new or old formulation, but it is definitely boozy to start off with. It kind of reminds me of rose scented...
I am quite impressed with this! It is warm, camphorous and long lasting. The local perfume store is closing down and selling 125 ml testers for $10. Bargain! The only thing is, it can bee too much...
I will keep an eye out for this, though it's hardly likely it will be coming to Australia any time soon. I will be surprised if it is anywhere near as good as Fendi Uomo.
Nautica Blue is pretty awful...just some indistinct chemical residue smells mixed with anti bacterial gel. A*Men is on the other extreme of the scale: nauseating.
Do you think I would like it if i like Michael Kors, the Dreamer, and Bogart PH? Do you think its more feminine than 1 million? Because I definitely wouldn't want anything more feminine than that....
I went again to the chemist to smell again, but it didn't reall grab me. I have the Cerruti pour Homme which is pretty good and similar as Shamu1 notes. I will try the Cerruti pour homme tonight...
I have been stalking this at a local chemist, where it is currently $29.95 for 100ml. It is interesting enough for me to try out about half a dozen times. I will see if the price goes down further...
Of the ones I own, I would consider the following masterpieces:
Lapidus pour Homme
Witness by Jacques Bogart
Salvador Dali pour Homme
Yatagan by Caron
I have a couple of bottles: it was being cleared here at a store in Australia (under $12 for 100ml). It is rich and woody and sweet. If you like Xeryus Rouge, you will probably like this one.
I have the only bottle of "Attack of the Patchouli Monster" made by...me. With notes of:
Bergamot, Lemon, Grapefruit, Mandarine, Orange, Black Pepper, Clary Sage, Juniper, Cypress, Abies Sibirica,...
Fendi Fendi (discontinued) a patchouli bomb.
Green tea Lavender by Elizabeth Arden - like a fresh fougere.
Yatagan is a top ten fragrance for me, great choice.
Before I go any further, I must state I am not racist, nor is this thread meant to be racially insensitive. In talking with some people recently It came to my attention that many Asian people like...
To me these three fragrances are similar to Terre d'hermes:
Byblos in Black
Ulric de Varens Action Man
perhaps they would be bett.
Dirty English is great. I bought 2 (100ml) bottles for $17.95 to add to the tester I already had. It does smell like Gucci pour Homme (and also Zirh Ikon), though doesn't last as well as the...
Nothing... I am too stingy and I suspect unless they we very heavily reduced in price that they would be more expensive than I could get elsewhere.
Lot 1... I personally think Terre d'Hermes is overrated and Byblos in Black is fairly similar (though I prefer it to TDH).
+1 for Dior Homme
Custo Barcelona Man (mainly smells of neroli)
I have 3 bottles of the (supposedly inferior ) 2000 reformulation. Enough said. Even this is a masterpiece.
Youth Dew 2.5 oz ($18.75) - for my wife
Ted Lapidus Black Soul tester ($18.75)
Jacques Bogart Silver Scent Intense tester ($18.75)
cK one shock tester 200ml ($18.75)
Juicy Couture Viva la...
I finally got Black Soul by Ted Lapidus. It is one of the first fragrances I ever reviewed (on fragrantica) but as it was $89 a bottle I let it pass. I picked up a tester (with cap) for $18.75...
I have both the reformulation and the vintage. I like them both and perhaps I like the reformulation a little more than the vintage as the Patchouli is more prominent. In the vintage I get a more...
I got it for $15 for a 100ml bottle. Very reminiscent of Terre d'Hermes, except without the strong orange. The projection is okay and the longevity good. I prefer this to Terre d' Hermes. Gucci...
+1 for Terre de Hermes... (sorry Mr. Ellena)!
Athey were clearing these out for $10 (125ml) at a local perfume store ( I paid the princely sm of $14 for mone and so felt ripped off LOL).
I was recently in a perfume store and saw a label on the shelf, Givenchy Gentleman 100ml $15. They had sold out, every store in Australia had sold out...It is my second favorite fragrance of all...
Quorum (the best value I have ever seen)
(p.s. I disagree about Brut and Old spice being no good. Old Spice in particular has stood the test of time and is my wife's equal...
Without a question of doubt, Old Spice. I put some on almost every night after a shower and before bed.
Hey I don't have many vetivers, but Malizia Uomo Vetiver is pretty decent (cheap too). I have made my own Vetiver using eos, but it is a brutal smoky monster, way different to Malizia or Guerlain.
I tried to like Joop! It defeated me. I dislike it because of its nauseating sweetness. It smells like sweetened cough syrup.
Kouros (the greatest male fragrance of all time)
Love it. It's like a less aggressive brother of Yatagan.
I agree. I just gave the EDT away - it is too much like Paco Rabanne p/h. The EDC is far softer, but superior.
I combined Jazz and Azzaro "Jazzaro" - it was quite good, the stronger artemisia in the Jazz complemented the anise in the Azzaro very well.
Witness, the best by a long way IMO.
I have given away about 40 bottles over the last week. Almost all of those were 90% or more full. Fragrances were overtaking my life and there are far more important things. I was buying just for...
I started collecting about 2 and a half years ago. My collecting got out of hand and became too much. So I decided the best way to deal with it was to give away a good proportion of my collection...
Lapidus Pour homme
The first two are in my top five.
It smells like Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur mixed with English Leather by Dana, with perhaps a touch of Paco Rabanne pour Homme. Very nice.
Well said. Not all of us are able to write analytical reviews, sometimes the ones where people post a subjective reaction or an analogy are just as important. For instance, If I read a review which...
Lapidus pour Homme
Van Cleef and Arpel
Krizia is not like Yatagan at all. It is very woody: more like pino silvetstre on steroids.
Witness by Jacques Bogart 4 x 50mL bottles plus the 30mL one I am using
Fendi Uomo 2 x 100mL bottles in backup
Oxygene by Lanvin 1 back up bottle (because it was on sale for $10)
Yatagan is more herbal other woody and leathery than piney to me. From fragrantica: "Imagine a leather satchel filled with herbs and sawdust, buried in a peat-bog for a number of years...that's...
I have never paid more than $50 for a bottle of cologne (postage included)...
My favourite cheapies are:
Cigar by Remy Latour
Cuba Gold by Cuba Paris
One Man Show
2) Grey Flannel
3) Lapidus pour Homme
4) Witness by Jacques Bogart
5)Salvador Dali pour Homme
6) Krizia Uomo
7) Givenchy Gentleman
9) Paco Rabanne pour Homme
10) One Man...
To me it is a great citrus scent with remarkable longevity (for citrus) which dries down to something resembling Bulgari pour Homme (or some other woody floral musk).
I have just had a cull of my fragrances. I offer them to my son(12 years old - almost 13). The others i will take to school (I am a grade 3 teacher and have an all-boys class. I have a raffle at...
Francesco Smalto pour homme: like Pino Silvestre on steroids.
Yatagan: amazing, rich, woody, leathery, funky.
Fendi Uomo: rich, boozy, spicy and I have 3 bottles.
PS Fine Cologne: an absolute...
+ 1 for YSL pour Homme. Also try Bowling Green by Geoffrey Beene, the lemon is backed up bu lemon verbena which makes it loast longer. In my experience with essential oils, lemon is one of the...
10/10 - it is a total masterpiece and the pinnacle of male perfumery.
Of the ones I have tried: Zino.
Has anyone tried Roberto Vizzari pour homme? I have seen it on a clearance table, but alas, there are no testers. Any ideas what it smells like? I can't find too much information.
I am wanting to make a simple vetiver dominated fragrance with only 3 notes. Any suggestions? I thought lemon, vetiver and Virginian cedar. I really want the vetiver to be prominent. Are these a...
Hi, I use Paco Rabanne XS as one of my hot weather fragrances - day and night. Also Cool Water Game by Davidoff - smalls a bit like watermelon.
My most treasured bottle (or rather two bottles) is the one that got me into collecting fragrances: Kouros. No it's not exclusive, rare or expensive, but I bought two 50mL bottles blind for $7.20...
+1 for Yatagan, I find fragrances with high levels of wormwood/artemisia to be bitter, hence Polo Green and Red by Giorgio Beverly Hills for men are bitter to me.
A magnificent fragrance, while I think Worth pour Homme is the archetypal, most classic fougere, I Like Paco Rabanne much more. It steals worth's lunch money for attitude, longevity and projection...
Borsalino Panama starts really spicy and citrussy (bergamot): its has a ton of ginger and also has cloves. "Warm" is how I would describe this. Patchouli, vetiver and tobacco are in the base: these...
She has developed a real disliking for it (and also another favourite of mine Ted Lapidus PH). At first she said she didn"t mind it, but grew to dislike it.
I went for Yatagan, but could easily have said it was a tie. They are very different beasts. For allout power Quorum has it, but I like the more diverse range of notes in Yatagan.
I haven't tried most of the fragrances mentioned, but I do own and love Givenchy Gentleman. How about getting some patchouli essential oil and layering it with another fragrance?
A 30 year old kick-boxing sheet metal worker who has the names of his children tattooed on his forearms and who spends entirely too much time at his hobby of taxidermy.
Joop! Homme or A*Men (the...
I have Quorum, Aqua Quorum, Quorum Silver and Aqua Brava... they are all great. Of all the houses I have encountered Puig offerers the best value and quality.
A 16 year old zombie boy, covered with ants, playing a pipe organ on a porch on June the 7th, 3 miles north of Placerville California after having played croquet with an ostrich egg:
+ 1 Grey Flannel
I love Kouros - and so I have to love this one. I wish it had greater longevity on me, then again I'm comparing it with Kouros. Another fragrance you might like if you like Boss no.1 is Rapport by...
On me this is weak and slightly reminiscent of ironing spray. Don't get me wrong, it is an okay fragrance, but there are plenty of others I like more. I prefer the original Jazz to this one and...
+ 1 for Ice Men Thierry Mugler
+1 for YSL pour Homme
I think that is a bit (read "lot") of an exaggeration. Most of us could name several dozen fragrances that are more completely opposite from either of the two fragrances.
4711 cologne immediately...
I smelled Terre d'Hermes for the first time a few weeks ago and thought "meh". I get what the original poster is trying to say: the two frags are both congested and heavy. They both smell like...
Old Spice Whitewater
Canoe by Dana.
English Leather Black.
Rapport and Mandate (Eden Classics)
PS fine cologne (a masterpiece)
What sort of death match could we have......
Zino VS. Salvador Dali Pour Homme.
Hi, I have tried to find my wife's favourite fragrance "Samarkand" by the Body Shop. I have never seen it since the late 1980's when I first got it for her. I can't remember what it smelled like...
+1 for A*Men, also Joop!Homme, which should be renamed Joop?#*@!Homme.
