Ditto to Arpege.
Striking how original Basenotes' fave Mandom turns out to be. By my reckoning, it gets a low 3 1/2 - the half being for the girly leap he makes as he throws his shirt away. How many commercials...
Bandit, because it's the only leather one I have, and then it's only a teeny sample.
First try today... I like.
I wonder if anyone at Coty has ever seen 'That Touch of Mink'?
I wore Chamade edp. Wore it all week. Wearing it today. Birthday present. :)
Changing dramatically in recent years, from slightly scruffy and fairly colourful, and rarely wearing perfume - to something far more minimalist and classic (but never formal - can't pull it off),...
Only ever wore a 'half slip'. Very rarely do now, but do find it useful when wearing a skirt over opaque tights, when the alternative means having your skirt creep up your thigh with every step. ...
Ditto! Also wearing this today for sentimental reasons.
Thanks everyone! My 'to test' list is growing rapidly!
Wow, thanks everyone. Loads of ideas there!
I didn't try Memoir Man, no - although I now plan to!
Thanks all for your suggestions, adding them to my 'to test' list. Then I need to track them down!
I recently discovered Amouage's Memoir Woman. Only tried it on paper, thought it was fabulous, and can't wait to go back and try it on properly. I notice from the reviews that not...
I'm a fan of Miss Dior - never smelt the vintage stuff, got mine last year - and I love it. This development does worry me.
I can't pinpoint *exactly* why, but I find this news incredibly annoying. I suspect that there are a multitude of reasons.
As for the possibility of 'Shalimar Parfum Initial being renamed...
Every witch should have one....
Might have to be DKNY BeDelicious. Don't have that many to choose from and a lot of the bottles that I love have loveable contents too!
"they're just posh, innit!" :D
Genius idea this.
Thanks for this report - really interesting. Makes me wish I'd been there!
Also makes me wonder, as a French person, if this is why I can't be bothered with 'Chance'.
Well, they barely had ANY of the scents I was looking for! I did get to smell the Sisley, the Iris Nobile and the Jubilation. All very nice - the latter is on my wish list, as is 24 Faubourg, which...
Thanks. Will let you know how it goes!
Thanks, I'll look out for it - and it's set to 'see wardrobe', which should work; I guess it's just a glitch.
Lastly, I do love Chamade and have done since I was a nipper. It's on my wish list - shame my wardrobe seems to be playing up!
I haven't got loads of spare cash, and I was possibly planning on Selfridges.
Oh dear. I have no idea what it's doing!
I was just reading Mimi Gardenia's thread, in which she asked for ideas for a different fragrance, and I thought it might be a nice idea to ask for advice from you lovely, knowledgeable...
I think that labelling anyone as being 'people who ultimately are of no consequence' is actually a lot sadder than taking in an interest in what perfume someone wears on their wedding day, whoever...
Ah. Now it has a fixation with L'Heure Bleue.....
Yay, it's fixed! :) It told me to wear L'Heure Bleue today! (Which is useful to know at half four in the morning....)
Angel first thing, then I went to town and threw on some Womanity, some Aramis and some Cerruti 1881 Pour Homme. In short, I now stink like nothing on earth. :D
My Wardrobe is having a wobbly. When asked to choose something random it only chooses Miss Dior, repeatedly, ad infinitum. I keep Miss Dior for school, so I really can't wear it...
I really don't find the drydown of No 19 chilly or stark, at all.
Don't have anything to synch with, so I'm wearing Insolence, because it cheers me up! :)
According to the guide, it's bacon. ;)
I've always thought they were similar - own one, plan to get the other some time. No 19 is a favourite.
Tired and emotional, eh?!
Banqueting House? They're not messing about, are they?!
To be honest, 'skanky' to me just means 'unwashed'. Also, where would you stand on 'Puttanesca' sauce?
I have to say I couldn't disagree more. I'm both very well educated and very precise with words - but if a word fits, then it fits, and it's counter-productive to classify words as being 'from the...
I like the smell of tobacco myself, as long as it's fresh and not yucky stale tobacco. I agree with the ideas above - chypres would be complementary. Orientals too probably. Possibly not delicate...
Thank you so much for all the kind birthday wishes, you lovely people! xx (I got a bottle of L'Heure Bleue - so that's tomorrow sorted!)
Even though I have to work this afternoon, I'm wearing Chanel no 19, cos it's my birthday! :)
I think it's a cool idea - perfume as conceptual art. Nice article.
I thought it was Dior day, so I went out and bought a bottle of Miss Dior. :embarassed:
But hey, I'm happy.
Well, I was dressed as Viola from 'Twelfth Night', so I wore lavender! :D
I am also poorly - and FREEZING COLD!!! :(
Paul Smith London. It's a sample. I sort of hated it at first, but it's grown on me.
No Balmain. So I started with Eau d'Issey, then went to town and added - hem hem - no 5 edt and edp, Angel edp and parfum, and L'Heure Bleue.... It's fair to say you can smell me before you see me.
Heh. I thought today was Friday.
I haven't any Balmain, nor do I remember ever smelling any! :( So I'm wearing Tommy Girl!
Thanks, but I can't click on them as they're all grey/unavailable.
I'd never seen this ad before. Thank you! It truly is a work of genius. (My sister is fluent in Japanese - I may ask her what it all means.)
It must just be me then! :(
Thanks. I tried that but the options are all in grey and inaccessible.
How do I put on an icon for my wardrobe link please? I've been trying to figure it out for ages, but I am a techy moron. :'(
I've done my first thanks - I was only messing and it sort of happened by accident - but, hey, have one on me. :)
Well, I had Year 4 informing me that Polo Bears lay eggs and play Fantasy Football... and Tommy Girl.
A five star fragrance for a day's supply teaching... hmmm....
Strangely, none of the above descriptions inspire me to rush out and make a purchase! Although I now have a hankering for a chocolate orange.
Right, that's it. I'm off to view my profile a few times.... :coolold:
On reflection, I think I have none.
Dear Grant. Am utterly confused. Trying to figure out if I have none as yet (being something of a newbie) or if I actually have two. (Which would be nice!) I'm sure it all makes sense. Possibly...
Great little article, which I'm embarrassed to say I only just got around to reading!
Outrageous! Basenotes clearly produced superior articles.
Lolita Lempicka. I like.
L'Air du Temps because it's the only one I have from the 40s.
I keep getting visions of Coleen with a slingshot and a sackful of confused-looking butterflies.
Makes a change from banning the contents of the bottle which, as we all know, are actually far, far more dangerous than class A drugs.
Which is the one with the patterned canister? It's really pretty!
I got four new perfumes in January, which is great as I have NO money, but I somehow cobbled enough together for:
Lolita Lempicka edp (I love that it's so different - also, cute bottle!)
The only 1940s one I have is L'Air du Temps. Which is cool. I like.
Love that bottle!
Dans la Nuit
Vers le Jour
Very cute! :D
Rive Gauche! I think I need a scent with a Christmassy name.
Incidentally, Noel au Balcon is from the phrase:
'Noel au balcon, Paques aux tisons' - i.e mild Christmas = cold Easter. So no...
Nothing and Mitsouko.
I'm new to Opium. I think it's marvellous, it's on my Wish List, and I'm completely unsophisticated. Does that help? :D
Wearing my one and only Guerlain - Idylle, from a sample. It's yummy. (And who knows what Santa will bring?)
Guerlain day?! Woo hoo!
I'm heartily sick of the Powers That Be making new laws about anything and everything and increasingly restricting people's behaviour; if it's not perfume, then it's something else (don't get me...
I love slide 22. Doesn't make me inclined to buy it, mind.
That sounds like a brilliant evening! May pass on Caron's 'Nuit de Noel' though - 'cat sex' and 'dirty knickers'?!
Hi Grant, my wardrobe is having a bit of a wobbly this evening - it keeps insisting that I own, and have tried, rather more perfumes than I actually have, whilst steadfastly refusing to accept that I...
I tried this a couple of weeks back, on paper. To be honest, I wasn't that impressed. All the elements that make Shalimar interesting have been forfeited to concentrate on a big vanilla hit. It's...
Woo hoo! Reviews are up! Thanks! :dankk2:
Btw, FABULOUS photos.
I have ten bottles. Ten! I could cry. :(
I grew up with Mitsouko, but I can't wear it because it's my mother's perfume. It would just seem wrong. I'll wear any other Guerlain that she likes, but to wear Mitsouko would seem like theft.
Boris Johnson! (At least it'd be different.)
Well, I'm gradually working things out... latest problem is that I have no picture - and can't for the life of me figure out how to put one on. Do I have to be a Basenotes Plus member? Ta. xx
That's four of my absolute favourites!
Frankly, I'm outraged.
Well put and I pretty much agree.
Personally, I've recently had the misfortune to experience both Chanel Chance Eau Tendre - nasty, nauseating, sickly...
Well, I logged out and back in again and it's appeared! :D
Btw, if I try from the main page I get the blurb; if I try from the link by my post I get a blank page. Does that help?
My wardrobe has disappeared again! I waited 24 hours, assuming that it's wardrobes in general that aren't functioning properly due to upgrades, but having logged in today it's still down -...
Tommy Girl is super cheap and ought to be around for a while. Not as long-lasting as it could be, but it really is SO cheap that it's prob worth giving it a go and taking the risk of not liking it. ...
I just LOVE those bottles.
Being something of a novice, I haven't yet ventured onto Ebay - and all of my stuff so far is shop bought. Until now. I ordered bottles of Arpege and Violet Angel from 'Cheap...
Well, I made it! And I have to urge you all - if you can get there before Saturday, then for goodness' sake, go! I spent literally HOURS going round and round and round again. I took approximately...
I've got some Violet Angel left on my t-shirt from yesterday - does that count?
