Knize 10 Golden Edition
Is this the Clive Christian anonymous club?:p Anyway, I just paid $150 for Acqua di Parma Oud and that's the most I've paid for any bottle in the last 12 years.
I recently bought PL blind from Beautyspin and I have no regrets. Wonderful Patchouli/Amber frag that lasts days on end. More nuanced than I thought it would be. Reminds me of Coromandel.
I've found that testers are usually older stock at the online frag shops which in a lot of cases means VINTAGE. I bought a Burberry London tester on Ebay for $20 and it's the early iteration with...
One of Sander's best. Probably the best use of Gaiac wood I've smelled. Bought mine for $25 here on BN.
I believe the "flask" bottle is vintage too.
Wearing it today after a while of not wearing it for a while due to the season Wow, what a fragrance! I find it closer to vintage Obsession for Men than Kouros, vintage or otherwise. Has a rich &...
I got compliments too when I wore Curve ages ago. There must be some pheromones in it! Haven't worn in years but I still have a bottle from the '90s that my dad gave me. Need to revisit it.
Stetson holds up nicely after all these years. Still lists Oak Moss on the box but I'm sure that and some notes have been adjusted over the years. Up until a few years ago, Aramis was holding up...
Aramis make some great rose frags for men - 900, JHL & Rose Calligraphy. Vintage Zino is wonderful also
I have both versions. Not only is the oud more pronounced in the vintage but also the amber/musk in the drydown. The absolu version is a nice but the vintage is where it's at.
+3 I bought it years ago when it came with the heavy balloon shaped cap. The vintage juice was powerful and the immortelle just assaulted my nose so it had to go.
None for yourself?
I was wondering how bad the Coty version is. I've got a lifetime supply of both Lancaster versions BTW, one 75ml bottle of each!
Added bottles & lowered prices
I recently acquired Burberry London and have been wearing it a lot recently now that the weather turned cold. I get more cinnamon leaves, port and guaiac wood than tobacco. Longevity isn't great...
I bought this when the Gentlemen's collection was unleashed and it's great. Parfum strength - more than 3 squirts will drown you. I only wear it when it's cold outside and the floral/spice...
Just bought a tester with Oak Moss listed in the ingredients for $20 on Ebay.
It's not bad. The rum note is interesting but it degenerates to the cheap leather/tobacco drydown that's so prevalent these days.
Interesting that after they stripped out the Oak Moss on the latest version, he still gives high marks. My botttles date from '07 to '09 and they're all brilliant
I too owned years ago but grew tired of it and sold it off. Had a very prominent pink peppercorn accord that gave way to a tonka-heavy base. Wish I would've waited to sell though. Can't believe...
Surprised Zino hasn't been mentioned. Its popularity must be on the decline.:undecided: Vintage M7 is great too.
Bought Platinum at Arden too but paid around $30 2 years ago.
I wore this occasionally until I discovered Cerruti 1881. Has sort of an old book smell that's nice once in a while.
I'm curious to smell this. I love the EdP, EdC and detest the EdT. Wasser's recent work has been disappointing so maybe he finally got it right. When I hear Praline and sweet, I think of Lolita...
I have both but I prefer the EdT because it projects better, develops better and is brightness bottled. The PP lacks all 3 and like many have mentioned doesn't last as long.
How's it smell?
May I ask where you bought it from?
Aramis. That's my old office building behind you.
I recently picked up both with that past 6 months and PH is definitely masterpiece material. Ho Hang is quite nice too.
This Mancunian objects! BTW, he used to lived next door to Johnny D in Hollywood!
I have a few iterations of vintage GG (it was cheap and plentiful on Ebay a few years ago) and they are wonderful.
Not quite sure to make of the concept. Will know when I finally smell it.
Polo Extreme Sport, lovely incense and wood.
It lists Tree Moss on the box now. That said, it is still dark, mossy and smells like Dracula's tomb.
Surprised nobody's mentioned Polo Green (vintage of course).
Valentino Uomo gift set (100ml Edt & 100ml AS Balm) for $50 at the Maxx. Great deal considering it goes for 3x that at Nordies.
I too find this one very similar to Oud. My question - where is the amber or ambergris? I've smelled both raw materials but I detect neither. I smell more Oud (synthetic) than anything.
Speaking of Bleu, I was hanging out with a buddy at a nightclub on Sat and I asked him what he was wearing as it smelled really good. Bleu de Chanel was his answer.
I learned my lesson buying Chanel on Ebay by getting a fake Allure Homme but I did get my money back and kept the fake juice too after I balked. Also, I've scored vintage Antaeus on Ebay too but...
Have a couple iterations of the vintage formula and the drydown is much richer in the both vintages than the current. Still, Antaeus is still one of the best and unique frags out there.
I've never heard of CdG discontinuing anything. Maybe the SA was trying to make a sale;) And it's available right here too for UK shipment! ...
Yeah, their selection is really good and has remained so for years. I think they get a lot of barber business from tourists that keeps them afloat as the SAs seem to think I'm the only guy who ever...
Saw Dirty English at Marshalls for $20/3.4oz but I heard it was weaker now. Burlington has Dunhill for Men (1934) giftset for $40 but didn't get it. Saw Kouros gift set too for same price.
Looks like sneaker juice!
Surprised you don't have the dark blue one. Going for peanuts $60 I think on Ebay from the seller in UAE. Wish I had waited as I paid around $100 for it a few months ago. I did pick up Dark Aoud...
Actually, I bought recently Habit Rouge EdP Collector's Edition from Amazon and it smelled exactly the same (oud strong on the base) as the one with the bottle wrapped in leather.
This fragrance really is impressing me. Smells like a really animalic oriential power frag. So multi-faceted and unique! I have the tester so it lists all the notes and I'm inclined to believe...
Why does Dior limit it's availability if it's still in production?
Not a fan either. Too much barnyard and not enough forest.
Thanks. Picked up a bottle.
I see them at Ted Baker stores in the US. They're actually the cheapest things in the store!
In his Autobiography, David J from Bauhaus confirmed he wore this in his anecdote about his escapade with some courtesans.
Here's what I wear to the death clubs:
Montale Black Musk
+12 hours....lasts about 4 hours longer than vintage DH Edt!
Orange, Rose & Oud? That can't be right.
I got my bottle recently and I detect little iris and a lot of leather/sandalwood. Not quite as good as vintage DH but a nice iteration that's more satisfying than DHI, vintage or otherwise.
I had the same impression. I remember it came out at the same time as Dior Homme and I bought both. Ended up selling Hypnose. Fyi - Clive Owen was the face for it when it launched.
Cinnamon kills it for me. Fortunately, I've enough vintage juice to last me a lifetime so I'm not concerned with the reformulation.
I actually wore GF yesterday and it's been over 6 months since I've worn it do to neglect. Forgot how powerful it is and wore 6 sprays! Wow, it was powerful to say the least. From the violent...
I bought it 3 or 4 years ago and it came in a white box. I wonder where in Germany they manufacture this stuff. My mind wonders...
I feel the opposite and prefer the golden edition to the regular edition.
In reference to the OP's question, I believe the Oak Moss has been replaced with Tree Moss but I can't tell much...
Bogart PH is what you're looking for.
If you can find vintage Joop, then I'd get that. Individuel is a bit too syrupy for my tastes.
I prefer the current version too. More rounded, better silliage and lasts longer. I believe Elena had reformulated this one for Hermes when he was brought aboard and what a magnificent job he did!
Paco Rabanne PH, which I believe was the first men's frag to use the honey-tobacco accord.
Van Cleef & Arpels PH
I tried this on at Macy's and it surprisingly did resemble vintage PH for a while. Will pick this up when it hits the discounters.
Very confusing indeed. I'll be honest to say that I've not done a side-by-side comparison between the vintage silver stem & the black stem, but when I spritz some black stem at Sephora, I detect not...
Don't know why so many people are surprised by L'Homme. If you smelled their last masculine Homme in all it's various incarnations, you knew there was a shift towards mainstream/generic (read:...
I own both the vintage and last version with Oak Moss in it and can't tell much difference. Nice frag to wear in warmer temps. I'd add also Trussardi Uomo & Fendi Uomo.
I recently bought the Collector's Edition of the EdP on Amazon for around $60 as a backup to my leather-encased EdP (which I paid around the same price too) and was pleasantly surprised to learn it's...
Pierre Cardin - Pour Monsieur
Most seem to reference the mighty and original Dior Homme (vintage).
Acqua di Parma-Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta (2003)
Chanel-Allure Homme (1999)
I have a few iterations of the vintage juice and it reminds me of Chanel Pour Monsieur but with vanilla on the base. Very noble and distinguished frag. Haven't tried the current juice yet.
I actually prefer the current Equipage. Same thing with Bel Ami. I heard Ellena rejuiced both.
Not the same without Scentemental and some of the older posters. I was lucky that I joined when they were really active and got so much insight and knowledge into this world of wonderment. I even...
Why don't you ask him?
Hard to believe that Cartier got their hands on real Oud oil but I haven't smelled any of these yet. The price point puts them in Clive Christian land and could they ever live up to almost $400 for...
For those who have the box of the new EdP, does it list Oak Moss?
Wow, I wonder how different Cuiron will smell.
I have a healthy decant of this that I bought from a Bnotes member. To my knowledge, it came bottled only in a jumbo splash bottle exactly like the one pictured and I would speculate came out in the...
I have the regular version and it's very nice. Great for autumn days/nights. Haven't tried the others as I believe they're not distributed in the US.
Which Montale faction is putting these two out? The Paris one?
The oud used in 99.99% of fragrances including niche is synthetic. Montale have some truly unique and compelling frags and you can find most for under $100. Black Musk is outstanding. Plus they...
Interesting. I wonder if they're doing the same thing here that they did with Patchouli Homme and re-branded the juice to Intense and really didn't change the formula if at all.
The tantalizing commercial with the mIghty Led Zeppelin.
So true. My wallet thanks me as my purchases over the last few years have really slowed down.
I bought it in a gift set with shower gel for $33 at Nordstorm Rack.
That for me was its ruin.
Actually, I have a few iterations of the vintage along with the current juice and I like all 3 but obviously the vintages stand up better. The current one is heavy on patchouli but it's still really...
Giorgio for Men
Halston z-14 vintage
Halston 1-12 vintage
CK Obsession for Men vintage
PdN - NY
I like it and ordered a tester from Fragrance.net for a nice price $140 but they were out of stock. I already have Tuscan Leather so no great loss.
Interestingly enough, my green juice turned color to golden juice over the years.
Luca Turin has mentioned this in his Perfume - The Guide book in his argument that synthetic oils can be "safer" than natural ones and he used Lavender as an example.
