Dan J, thank you for digging out this old thread. Made my day! ;-).
Montale Blue Amber
I get away with wearing Bois d'Iris by van Cleef & Arpels. But it's not the most masculine fragrance on the market.
I like it, but it only lasts two hours on me.
Whatever the girlfriend wears ;-).
Thank you for your common sense, down-to-earth post, Indie_Guy!
I have a full bottle of Himalaya, a large decant and several samples. They all smell slightly different, especially the top notes. One of the carded samples smells best (at least to me) because it...
I think the bottles look very cheap for scents as expensive as the L'Art et la Matiere line.
Regarding the scents, I like Tonka Imperiale and Bois d'Armenie.
A bottle of a modern, unobtrusive and versatile allrounder (Chanel Bleu, Chanel Allure Sport, Aqua di Gio, Tom Ford for men,...) and samples/decants.
BDP on skin. Aventus lasts for days on clothes.
I really liked GPH when I bought it a year ago, but now it smells very artificial und synthetic to me. It feels so harsh that I rarely wear it anymore. Excellent longevity.
CdG2 on the other hand...
what about that other barney?
You could try the classic fragrances from Hermes (Rocabar, Equipage, Bel Ami). Well done and rather old fashioned.
Have you tried Bois du Portugal from Creed? I would have recommended Tom Ford...
Rive Gauche PH. Suitable name and you'll smell like a french trucker, which should help with the canal fish.
Himalaya is my favorite modern allround fragrance, sadly it lasts only 2-3h on my skin. Good if it works for you. Most reviews on Basenotes complain about the longevity of Gucci Homme II, but that...
Himalaya, if you don't mind reapplying during the day.
I think the Chanel scents marketed for women are much better than the ones for men.
Trophee Lancome is golf themed, but that doesn't seem to be the one you are searching for:
I like Miracle Homme. As it is very light and inoffensive, it makes a good close combat scent for me. Not as boring or chemical as other light Aquatics. The coffee note is rather light and not...
Fahrenheit is an odd one for me. I like the sillage, but can't stand the smell of it on my skin. One of the fragrances I enjoy when worn by others, but I don't like to wear it myself.
TV has got excellent longevity and sillage, but it is rather simple and has a strong cloves note which I don't like that much. BtB isn't much of a tobacco fragrance to me. To me the main notes are...
My personal favorites: Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire and Lalique Encre Noire.
Terre d'Hermes by Hermes was released in 2006 and is or has been quite popular. Even though the scents are sold "pour femme", I'd also suggest the "Les Exclusifs" by Chanel.
I saw you bought both, how do you like them?
I have longevity/projection problems with many scents, but not with PHII, a fragrance most members on basenotes seem to have problems with. That said, I only own PH I. Don't really enjoy neither the...
Both smell equally good.
Kors without the pee sounds nice. Will try out 21, thanks.
I'm tired and feeling silly and seriously considering wearing Vanille Abricot. Please talk me out of this, or I will be a ridiculous sugar candy nuisance to myself and anybody around me.
You could try Baldessarini Strictly Private. Not exactly caramel, but sweet & creamy. Also Dior Homme Intense: sweet vanilla cocao powder.
ADG, Allure Homme Sport, Bleu, Himalaya, many of the Boss, CK or Bvlgari lines
Mario Justiniani - A*Men. Brilliant.
She gave you 15ml of Tonka Imperiale for free? Now I'm really jealous... :-).
La Nuit de l'Homme is heavy on Tonka, but quality wise it can't compete with TI at all. I'm looking forward to...
The bottle looks like something from Diesel...
D&G - The One for Men
Yes, really... :-).
It's feminine, but with an unisex touch. One of the few feminine scents I feel comfortable wearing.
Of the scents in your lists BdP ist the most similiar to Havana, so there might be a chance that you like ist. Havana is even more aromatic /perfumey than BdP, and a bit rougher than BdP because of...
In terms of quality it's the better fragrance, but I don't like the urine note in Michael Kors. So my vote goes to Vera Wang.
D&G The One. Gucci II is so cloyingly saccharine sweet, it gets really annoying after some time. A SA once teased me and said "Oh no, don't take that one, it smells so castrated and stuffy, I...
Guerlain - Tonka Imperiale
Malle - Vetiver Extraordinaire
Tom Ford - Tobacco Vanille
+1 Taste of heaven.
Top 3 as in "worn most often during the last weeks", not "I like best":
1. Dolce & Gabbana - The One
2. Frederic Malle - Vetiver Extraordinaire
3. Gucci - Pour Homme I
Fantastic fragrance, with only one minor problem: the smell. Refined as a swineherd, well-mannered as the local ruffian. The AC/DC music in the video pretty much nails the target group. But hey, it's...
Except "you smell like a walking christmas tree" from a male friend, no.
I don't think TV is a good everyday scent, it's a bit over the top with christmas spices. I don't expect other people to...
Yes! I can't smell much of Dior Intense, neither. BUT I can smell that there is a scent around me that I can't smell. Most of the time I can't smell the scent, but i can "feel" it.
Eau Lente is cinnamon from hell. Utter fragrantic horror to me, and it's not easily scrubbed off.
As in "plenty of guys purchase it for their girlfriends"? I just dabbed some Chinatown on. I can't believe many men wear this, it's so flowery & feminine in a girly way. I wear feminine scents like...
As much as I like Tobacco Vanille, I don't think it's "classy" or "elegant". It's simple, loud, synthetic and rugged. But it smells good.
I like Chinatown, but I think it's very feminine. Smells great on my mother.
Haven't sampled Westside yet.
Huh? Your argument pro A*Men was: Woman like it. To which I replied: But who cares about the oppinion of women who like A*Men, anyway? And I added a smiley as a sign I said it jokingly. But english...
Well, but which self-respecting man cares about stylistic advice from women who think A*Men ist the best smelling fragrance in the world?
A*Men, oh dear. Gross, coarse and lacking any sense of style.
I love Mario Justiniani's review, he sums it up perfectly:
My favorite Creed, so much better than GIT, SMW or MI. I even like it better than BdP. Hah, I said it.
It's a subtle, pleasant scent that doesn't intrude into other peoples private spaces, and...
You could try Guerlain Bois d'Armenie or Fahrenheit Absolute (not incense, but vanilla and smokey rubber)
Because they smell nice.
BTW: Even though it seems to be common knowledge on Basenotes, I never understood why buying this or that scented water that somebody else has made "shows one's...
Maybe you could ask your father, brother, father-in-law, boss or priest?
Only solution: sniff a man's crotch to see if it's true what they say
Guerlain L'Art et la matiere line (unisex, but leaning more towards the female side)
Tom Ford Private Blends
MR= dead tiger with sweaty socks in spicy vanilla sauce
A*M= burning chocolate in sugared drugstore cologne
Creed claims Aventus was created for Death in 1748 and only recently released to the public. I also heard that the devil wears Chanel No. 666, don't know if that is true.
Just sampled the EDP, what a letdown. Even though La Nuit isn't much of a classy fragrance, I like the cardamom-tonka blast of the EDT. In the EDP they toned down the coumarin a bit and threw in some...
Go for the one you feel most comfortable with yourself. Confidence is more important than your perfume.
I think RG is an horrible stench bomb - but longevity is excellent, on me it lasts until the next day. Must be a problem with your nose.
5+ sprays of RG! You must be a walking nightmare for...
Adidas. Drakkar Noir for special occasions :-).
It's just the last living specimen of the traditional run-of-the-mill french 70s perfumes that got swept away from the market almost completely. Tom Ford recently revived the concept with slightly...
they even write songs about the guy:
I'm sure it contains unicorn blood, mandrake root, water extracted from moon rock, phoenix ashes, lavender from queen victorias pillow, thyme cut at midnight in the gardens of windsor castle at full...
Guerlain Vetiver: Octogenerian wearing an old grey suit and a grey hat
I can remember only two fragrances that made me cringe when I tried them in the shop, one was Chanel Egoiste, the other Mugler A*Men. A*Men is truly horrible.
There is a new Warrant from Queen Victoria online at the Creed Website since yesterday...but like everything seen before, it's only for the "tailors and habit makers" Creed, no mention of perfume at...
"Join Date Jan 1970"
I was stupid enough to actually pay money for this stinker:
Now officially the...
Yves Saint Laurent
The classic YSL scents are everybody's darling on basenotes. They are well crafted, strong and have very good staying power - but to me they are also coarse, offensive,...
Nicolai New York
Received Lancome Miracle Homme as a name day gift
Allure Homme Sport: Yes
1 Million is more of a sweet clubbing scent to me
You could try Guerlain Homme, Chanel Bleu
YSL Rive Gauche - overpowering, butch and graceless.
seems to be available here http://www.tendance-parfums.com/l-homme_52_eau-de-parfum_la-nuit-de-l-homme-le-parfum__814-17-n36-46.html and here http://www.sephora.fr/browse/product.jhtml?id=P112908
Has anybody smelled it yet?
This is great news, thanks! How does the 75ml bottle look?
Only 35 employees...le's see... 12 for shipping & packaging, 6 management, 4 marketing & website and stuff, 1 janitor, 1 IT admin, 1 perfumer and the remaining 10 mixing fragrances in erwin creed's...
D&G - The One for men
hehe, that one sole bottle of secret eau de parfum that escaped the d&g headquarter will become an legendary object of desire among perfume collectors very soon :-). The grail quest begins right...
I was attacked by an JPG sales-guy with a Terrible bottle last saturday. He asked whether I wanted to sample it and I declined, telling him I had just sprayed Dior Homme on my wrist. His response:...
Mario, I'd love to read a sequel to your gracious appraisements :-). So hilarious!
Interview with Jaques Polge on Egoiste and Bleu:
I love TV, but would only wear it to work if I was an eccentric rock star...
First encounter today: Chanel Bleu is the new Polo Black! Darker than I expected, pleasant but quite pricey for what it offers.
Every good SA knows AdG is the best smart alec repellent...
Gucci Envy - Lovely in the beginning, but after a while I start to smell like some old geezer who stirred vanilla pudding into his Brut.
