Sounds like you might be ready to part with your Kouros. PM me if you are. I'd be willing to trade.
I wonder what switched the mainstream scene from incense and gourmand to woody amber. I'll have to order some sample keep em coming guys I'm ready to sample soon
I remember loosely the last hot designers were all the L'Homme spinoffs...I wouldn't mind scooping up something new for the cold season.
Vintage Rive Gauche, its getter rarer and rarer.
I agree with this very much too. It is sad though its taken about 50 purchases or more to realize what I like to wear any time I feel like reaching for it.
I was the other way around. I started back when gourmands were the hip thing, now I'm more into gentleman smelling colognes.
I honestly think I'll come back full circle....or still evolve. Like I've grown to where I like super formal or macho stuff now, but I will probably find a way to like gourmands or summer frags again...
I got into fragrances around 2004 or so and I think at the time very sweet gourmands and citruses were popular. I was basically just buying what people were telling me was good and then I was pretty...
Isn't that the Le Male clone?

Also I'll do 10+ of Bulgari PH, Gucci PH II, and a few others...
There's not really any right or wrong answer.
I always through of him being like an astronomer.
Thanks guys. I don't know if this has good chemistry on me. Also it's kind of a weird aquatic in that its not best in summer IMO. Too sweet and cloying in the 100 degree heat where I live.
The money sink
I agree with this, although the pepper note does not stay strong.
I have worn both and actually like CW better than GIT. Not by much, but a little bit.
As far as similarity I find them to be very very very close in smell.
I have had this fragrance for many years but havn't really worn it much because they longevity on me has been poor and it quickly becomes just sweet and powdery. It could be olfactory fatigue, though...
You could get away with Bulgari PH. It's very professional and literally the most discreet frag I can think of.
Other than that I'd say don't wear any.
I actually don't wear about half of my collection in public due to:me out growing the scent, it being too feminine, not lasting long on me and various reasons.
Nothing will ever replace that part of my collection.
L'Homme isn't in the same genre.
The fragrances I am looking to stockpile are :Tin can Rive Gauche, Guicci PHII, B*Men,
I thought it was good, but not worth the Chanel price tag. I'd take a YSL over it in the same genre any day.
I'm trying to find a place where I can buy 1 get 1 free or even get discounts for multiple purchases.....maybe they sell double packs. I don't know, just looking for ideas on how to get the best...
Very hard to choose...
but Kouros wins.
It's kinda sad the good frags get reformed. It's like if somebody watered down the Sistine Chapel or Citizen Kane. RG was a fragrance that needed to go unchanged
The can or bottle version?
RG is notorious for olfactory fatigue. Many people cannot smell it on themselves, but it will last into 24 hours.
YSL Rive Gauche
YSL La Nuit
Platinum Egoiste has an aldehyde smell.
I have Kenzo Power in rotation for sure. Anyone think this scent is femme? I could see that but it's sharp and ambery in a masculine way.
The tin can I got in 2011 was remarkably long lasting. I sprayed at 7am once then got a compliment at midnight at a bar. I didn't reapply nor could I smell it on me myself.
tin can Rive Gauche
I pulled off Givenchy Pi in high school. A*men is great...so it Le Male.
I haven't tried myself but Givenchy Pi Neo is good too.
Its such BS. I have a feeling every single YSL fragrance I like will be reformulated/ cut
Wow this is a tragedy.
I wonder why they would even have to change the juice when they change bottle...It seems like two completely separate productions or intents.
Anyone else able to vouch for the new forumulation? I really hope its the same.
Did YSL give an official statement on whether its different chemically? Do houses ever do that with "rumored re...
RG is either no1 or no2 in my lineup of favs so when I found out a new bottle came out with different juice was disconcerted. How much different is the new one?
I ran out of GIT which is my go to spring scent.
I may have to give my Kenzo Power and Gucci PH II another try or else I will be stuck in my endless YSL rotation.
I was at FT Meade and had cologne shipped me to me. I think it was vials though not bottles
I still kinda like Pi if you can consider it in this category.
It may sound strange but Kouros is kinda my comfort scent. I don't know why, but its sort of like Holden Caulfield's red hunting cap for me...I just feel safe and secure when I wear it.
I can think of no better cologne for your age than Allure Sport.
I'm wearing it tody and trying to figure out what's masculine about it, it's not overly feminine but I could see it as unisex
None that I've known.
but it does have a certain modern synthetic twist.
I really like its genre along with Chanel PM & PMC. It's just too pricey for me at the moment but there are probably cheaper frags that are just as good. I like RG too if you wanna consider it a...
Yeah I can smell most of the "beasts" all day: Kouros, Rive Gauche, Le Male, M7, A Men, ect
I look very young for my age, so I assume they always think I'm shoplifting or they offer me Curve right away.
Other than that, I have met some very respectful and helpful SAs that help me out....
Yeah I highly doubt the juice is fake. I should spray it on a friend one day to test.
Fairly certain. It could be olfactory fatigue, I smell Kouros and RG all day.

From a dept. store.
Even on clothing. Very strange as I heard this to be a strong synthetic much like Le Male.
can't beat these for work horses.
also Aqva and Cool Water run pretty cheap.
Anyone link the previous thread about the new bottle/possible reformulation? Not trying to be a thread nazi, but it might be informative. I'd like a read over myself.
I have a 2004 A*Men that had people 3 rows of seats above me smelling it. This is all anecdotal, of course, but I can vouch confidently for its sillage from 9 years of experience with it.
Anything with oak moss
Sampled it at Walmart the other day and it smelled just like Cool Water .
I didn't believe my own nose and I googled some reviews of it and sure enough people are saying it smells like a men's...
Montale black Aoud or Kouros
Spark by Claiborne is very boozy
Just curious how are you wearing RG when its hot? I live in Mississippi where you would die wearing RG in the summer. (most places being the same, RG is potent)
I'd say my Plat Ego. is like a pale american cheap beer or urine color. I like the smell , unfortunately that is the color of mine.
Kouros for every occasion.
I'm suprised at so many people saying Aspen. I havn't smelled in about 8 years so I guess I will have another go at it. Does it have the violet of GIT? The Tobacco of CW? Or just generally fougre...
Surprised to see this 3 year old thread active :)
But yeah ambergris does have a smell. Its kind of waxy and round.
I have been wearing GIT and Cool Water a lot, I actually like Cool Water a tad bit more. Of all the Pierre Boudin creation wannabees what smells the most like CW?
Doesn't Bond Wall Street smell like GIT?
one of the Bonds (hamptons?)
Anything else? I'm a big fan, even of the off-shoots.
I don't like compliments from anyone for some reason. Often, I will tell them I'm not wearing cologne or it must be my deoderant or something. Not sure why they bother me.
Gonna be too hot where I live for all the vanille pretty soon. Sounds good thought hope you like the SL
Thanks. What was funny was I didn't think I was a perfume snob at all. In fact I looked down on others that I saw (people who only weird niche and deny quality designer frags).
But when I enjoyed...
I was given a sample of Cool Metal by AXE and it well....made me question myself.
At first I really liked it, its like a musky refreshing menthol. The body wash and shampoo are great in the shower....
Mine is Pierre Bourdon for sure.
GIT and Cool Water.
Can't believe this thread got so long. I would think there is some obvious distinctive shared note.
I've smelled Beyond Paradise before (did not like) but didn't remember it smelling anything like Cool Water/GIT. I'll have to re-smell this badboy.
Ok here's the list listing of the imitation Cool Water chemicals that for a fact unmistakably contains the shared GIT/Cool Water note:
Guys back at my apartment I have a generic knockoff Cool Water called "Sea Breeze" from Italy. It has the same exact note that we are debating as it is very clearly trying to imitate the CoolWater...
Wall Street has the same note. And everyone clone Cool Water I have smelled. There has to be some official ingredient that perfumers are using to makes that distinctive GIT/Cool Water smell. I've...
I have to know!
Those two are the most commonly offered Silver Mountain Water "alternatives"
I'll agree with Pure Vetiver. Not even trying to be mean either, that stuff smells like a sick animal.
Just bought one from there from your link.
Thanks so much-- and to think I was so close to buying a 30 dollar bottle because of shipping. Ha ha.
Kouros is overratedly dirty.
Thats the website where I could only get 20 dollar UPS shipping....for a single bottle! Its a last resort. I really don't want to pay 20 dollar shipping on a 3 dollar bottle unless I have looked...
...Like a blank rectangle one basically the shape of Lutens but more generic.
I need it for my product I am making in a Concept Development class in college, but I can only find places that sell...
Usually I ask for very specific/obscure fragrances and subtly let them know I know a ton about the fragrance world.
Once this has been established, whether intentional or not, they become...
these were the mainstays of the 90s if I remember correctly.
I recommend Memphis Fragrance on Winchester.
Owned by very nice koreans that I have been buying from since I started collecting in '04. They have a way better selection than Macys
