Lalique Encre Noir
Montale Dark Aoud
Are two of my dark favorites.
It is the most recent one. I just bought it yesterday. Funny thing. I was just leaving my hotel room here in Singapore. Sprayed a healthy shot of Kouros onto my chest. As I walked to the...
One thing that I notice with Aventus, is that very quickly my nose gets tired and I don't smell it anymore. But, then my colleagues say they can smell me from five feet away. Be VERY careful with...
I recently purchased my first bottle of Kouros, and I'm very impressed. It is a beautiful fragrance with a magnificent dry down. The only challenge I have with wearing it is the...
Green Valley smells like a green valley
Thanks everyone for your recommendations. I'm in NYC tomorrow on business, and will try to drop by Barneys.
I adore the tobacco scent in Chergui. Not too strong, not too soft. It is a delight. What I can't seem to get past is that powdery smell - is it Iris? Can you please recommend a...
I very much like Bowling Green. A wonderful, if under appreciated, green scent.
All are very nice for the summer. My favorite summer Creed Fragrance though is Original Vetiver. It smells wonderful in the heat and humidity.
Green Valley is my "go to" sunny spring day fragrance. it smells like a freshly cut meadow. The longevity is only a few hours, but those few hours are bright, and happy and fresh. I have three...
My favorite Spring scent is Creed's Green Valley. In fact, I think that I will wear it today.
For me, the king is Joop! Homme. Tremendous projection and longevity.
Montale's Red Aoud is a close 2nd.
I like lavender based fragrances, like Cadley Island Lavender and Creed's Royal Scottish Lavender
Another vote for Pino Silvestre. I will smell great in the clean Alpine air. Aspen is also good, but I prefer Pino. If you have money to burn, check out Creed's Epicea - in my opinion, the best...
Egoiste Cologne Concentree is one of the best winter fragrances for men. A fabulous, rich, spicy scent that projects tremendously and has near day-long longevity. If you can find it, buy it. Yes,...
My favorite is Kingdom by Alexander McQueen.
I like Mugler cologne, but I prefer Creed's Original Vetiver.
I did one on the chest and one on the back of my neck. I still smell it on my chest: 24 hours later. I might start bringing this one back into my rotation. Very soapy.
Found my bottle of Sung Homme hiding in the back of my wardrobe. Was in the mood for something a little different today, so I decided to wear it. I forgot what a decent scent this is. Soapy floral...
No similarities at all for me, but both are excellent. Royal oud is dry, spicy, and is unisex, while Egoiste is wet, jammy, and more masculine - Egoiste concentree even more so. If you can find it...
I like it in the colder months, but it would just fine in the summer. It is one of my most universally complemented fragrances. Two sprays is usually enough, three if you are out clubbing and want...
Another vote for GIT
To my nose,
Malle >>>>> Artisans>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bond No. 9.
The vintage formulation smells like flowers and freshly cut violet leaves. It's opening is alive and bright due to the honeysuckle, then darkens. The newer one smells pretty good, but is synthetic...
For a smooth leather, my choice would be Creed's Royal English Leather. Very nice stuff.
I agree with Dullah. I have had samples, from Sachs, that smelled like a cigarette ash tray mixed with stale pineapple juice. They were terrible and, for me, unwearable. Recently, I received a...
Do yourself a favor and try Ironman. It is an absolute bargain and smells FAR more expensive than its pricetag.
I get 5-6 hours on my skin, but 8-12 hours if I spray it on my clothing. Good stuff.
These are two of my least favorite Creeds. If I had to pick one of the two, I would choose SMW, but only because Himalaya smells so terrible on my skin. I second the people that recommend Green...
Boss Sport is a fantastic green, oakmoss-loaded fragrance. Fabulous.
My favorite soft, buttery, smooth, and elegant leather is Creed's Royal English Leather. Zero powder. Just amber and leathery goodness. Class in a bottle.
Creed's Green Valley
Montale Oud Cuir d'Arabie
Also, if you want more tobacco and less musk
If your skin is drinking the Montale and C&S, then you might want to consider finding a discrete spot on your clothing to spray them. Beware of staining.
You might also want to try Red Aoud. ...
Some people are very sensitive to scents. Some people have poor interpersonal skills. Some are just cantankerous by nature. Others are insane. The first two, for sure, seem to apply to this...
No, it is not comparable. Whereas M7 vintage smells better than the reformulated M7, Egoiste Concentree smells much RICHER and deeper than Egoiste. It is dense and has a pronounced rosewood. The...
Less rose and more astringent Aoud? TAJ fits the bill nicely. It is Aoud, tobacco, and leather. Very astringent and lasts for the whole day.
You might want to try Sung Homme. It came out in 1988. Is dirt cheap, loud as hell, lasts forever, and smells remarkably good. Think Irish Spring soap and wood.
I get neither a watermelon note nor a feminine vibe from Fahrenheit. For me, it is honeysuckle, gasoline, and violets.
They are a good place to start.
Lemon and vanilla cream = Habit Rouge. Smells like a lemon cream pie.
Dreamer, if you want an absolutely beautiful rose/aoud/patchouli scent that is not to strong on the aoud, and has a breathtaking rose note, then I would like to recommend Czech & Speake's "Dark Rose."
Creed Green Valley
Dior Original Fahrenheit
Beene Grey Flannel
Creed Green Irish Tweed
These are all very nice violet-based scents
I like them both. Pure Malt has a better opening, but Angel Men has a longer dry down and better projection. If you had to get only one, I'd go for Pure Malt.
Dad - Acqua Velva and Pino Silvestre
Mom - Jean Nate
If you are looking for something a little "greener", you could try Alfred Sung Pour Homme. The opening smells a bit like Irish Spring soap and the dry down is very woody. The projection and dry...
My favorite Citrus smell is Selection Verte. It has a glorious opening, but lasts only 2 hours on my skin. I just carry an atomizer around with me. The mint in it yields a nice cooling effect when...
My favorite for the daytime in the summer is Creed's Original Vetiver. It smells crisp and clean.
Original Vetiver and Green Valley. Both are excellent.
I agree with the others, do not blind buy this one. It will be an expensive mistake if you don't like it.
Summer: Green Valley
Winter: Bois du Portugal
Winter, I didn't include TdH, because on my skin it is nowhere in the league of Joop! Homme or Fleur du Male in terms of projection. Great fragrance though. Enjoy your new purchases. You have made...
These two are not even close to one another. Something isn't right.
In my college apartment we wore:
But, of these, Polo rocked the hardest.
Thanks folks. Your advice is much appreciated.
I was speaking to my sister this weekend, who doesn't really wear perfumes, but would like to find one that suits her. She is interested in a fragrance that is predominantly Lilac. It would be...
In my experience, FragranceNet ships in one day and the packages arrive in three to four days. Every bottle that I've purchased has been authentic and of high quality.
A synthetic orange blossom and powder nightmare that lasts for days and will induce headaches if over applied. Not for me at all.
My two favorite Violet Leaf fragrances are:
Creed Green Valley
Dior Fahrenheit (early formulations)
For me, the ultimate clubbing scent is Joop! Homme. It gets a lot of hate here, but it smells good, lasts forever, and will get you noticed. Two sprays are more than enough even for a smokey club.
Kingdom Rocks! I'd be stoked if this Lady Gaga fragrance smells like that. :P
I never understood why Kingdom wasn't marketed to men as well as women. It is very unisex. The cumin can be a...
Overrated: Aventus, Himalaya, Green Irish Tweed
Underrated Men: Green Valley, Royal English Leather, Royal Scottish Lavender
Dark Rose from Czech & Speake is a beautiful rose based scent with a very wearable oud note.
For me, it is too much baby powder. I can't get on with this scent at all.
The projection fiends are, in roughly this order:
Fleur de Male
Montale Black Aoud
Opium EDP, not the EDT.
I'm with hednic on this one. I don't see any connection at all.
I agree with drseid. If you don't like dry vetivers, then chances are that you will not like Encre Noire. Why not get a sample of it?
I isn't my top pick for when it is hot and humid, but it works well in the summer.
My favorite hot, humid weather scent is Creed's Selection Verte. The combination of fresh citrus and mint is cooling and refreshing. Not the best longevity, so be sure to bring a long a small...
Definitely try Ironman by Avon. It is MUCH better than the $6 price on ebay.
The EDT is OK, but the EDP is one of the finest spicy orientals on the market. Black currant, Star Anise, and vanilla. It is a silage monster and lasts for 12-15 hours on my skin, and over a day on...
Bleu de Chanel
Both very flexible, reliable, and less than $100
Please go to an allergist to nail down the allergen that is responsible. My friend has perfume allergies too but his is caused by florals so he uses only citrus-based scents like Royall Lymme.
Alexander McQueen's Kindgom - a cumin bomb! Smells like sweat.. so good.
Serge Luten's Musc Koublai Khan - give this one ten or fifteen minutes before you give up on it. Opening is urinous. ...
Montale Black Aoud
C&S Dark Rose
Chanel Egoiste Concentree
Are all excellent rose-based scents
Green Irish Tweed and Millesime Imperial are the only two that I like. A lot of folks like Aventus, but that pineapple notes doesn't work for me at all. SMW is very nice, but I believe that GIT and...
My favorite tobacco note is Montale's TAJ.
For an excellent clean scent try Creed's Original Vetiver.
Welcome. I suggest Guerlain's Habit Rouge, Heritage, or Vetiver. The first two are very sophisticated and elegant, and the third is an excellent all-around scent.
Both Cool Water and Nightflight are perfectly fine for either daytime or nighttime wear.
Please sample it before you buy it. I had a flacon of the 2010 batch, and although I really enjoyed it at the Creed Boutique, I was far less enamored of it once I got it home and started wearing it...
Yes, Taj is discontinued, unfortunately. You might want to place an advertisement in the fragrance wanted section. Perhaps someone on this board would be willing to sell their bottle to you, or...
Flouris and Jack,
Flouris, Taj definitely does not equal Royal Aoud. Other than the Aoud blast at the beginning, they are not even close. Taj smells of crushed tobacco leaves and is dark and...
If you want sweet and long lasting, then I recommend these three.
Blue Amber - Amber and Powder
Sweet Oriental Dream - Almonds and Amber
Red Aoud - Saffron and Chocolate
My favorite of the...
There is a lot of disagreement over this. Both are at least very good, but - for me - only one is great: Our Cuir D'Arabie. It needs to settle down for about 15-20 minutes, but once it does the...
TdH works very well in the summer. If you like the scent, then would not hesitate to purchase it.
Non-citrus and non-aquatic summer fragrance?
It is discontinued, but Boss Sport is a fantastic summer fragrance.
Joop! Homme is my favorite clubbing perfume. I wore it when it first came out, and I still enjoy it. It has monsterous silage and excellent longevity. Be careful, as you will develop olfactory...
The both smell great, however...
If you want to smell great for thirty minutes to an hour: 1270
If you want to smell great for 6-8 hours: Pure Malt
The only one of these three that I recommend is Jaipur PH. I am one of the few people that strongly dislikes Pure Havana. Have tried it several times, and every time it smells awful on me. If you...
Welcome. Xqizit, has it right. I've spent a fortune since joining basenotes. Have had a blast doing it too. :)
Does mood influence my choice of fragrance? Absolutely yes.
JH just gave some excellent advice. Don't worry about seasonal stereotypes. Wear what you want, just use discretion if you are concerned that your powerful silage will irritate others.
Welcome. There is a ton of information to be enjoyed here. You are likely even to make a friend or two.
Envy is less than half of what it goes for on ebay. I just sold a 50ml bottle for close to $100.
I am wearing C&S No.88 right now, and at first it exudes this wonderful soapy bergamot and rose opening. I'm about four hours into the scent and it is all rose, frangipani, vetiver and sandalwood. ...
I found it to be very disappointing given the price point. It is a decent enough scent, but has exceptionally anemic projection and unacceptably poor longevity: two hours max.
Very clean, refined, and smokey vetiver. It isn't for me, but I can easily understand why others would adore it. Congrats.
Bold and summer - Hugo Boss Sport
It is very hard to find these days (check ebay), but it is a very atypical sport scent. It is bold, very green, oak mossy, and great for the summer (and the rest...
