Could somebody please post up the page that has the latest total tally of fragrances mentioned?
Hot female (late 30's) in a Vegas bar told me a smelt really good the other night.
Aventus again, this was eight hours after a very weak application as it was the final couple of half squirts from...
I have samples of both on the way, I'll post up when they arrive.
I liked this one at first but I've kind of veered more towards TV for my Winter scent now.
I've tried all of the following:
- Carnal Flower
- Rose 31
- Black Aoud
All of the above are far too feminine for my taste, I definitely get an 'old woman' vibe from them...
I find this to be a top quality frag (although I marginally prefer Assoluta).
It wasn't until I smelled Colonia and Assoluta that I understood what people mean when they say other frags smell...
Just sold my bottle of this on ebay.
2. Tobacco Vanille
3. Acqua di Parma Assoluta
Kouros - piss and urinal cakes
MKK - as above but with less sillage, the opening smells like those old aerosol cans of fart gas
Yatagan - Too spicy and very dated
Joop - Disgustingly sickly sweet...
This was my scent for the last 12 months before discovering BN in May of this year. I bought it on the strength of a review in one of the magazines like GQ or Arena. Although a nice frag I tend to...
I only got into this game in May, so far having sampled circa 100 scents my stand out favourites are:
2. Tobacco Vanille
3. Acqua di Parma Assoluta
I find MI and Aventus quite similar, it must be the ashy note that does it.
Joop (although I hated this one)
For me this is the definitive 90s list.
Tuscan Leather might interest you. I've recently sampled it and it's like no other frag I've sampled so far. It's not to my taste but worth a try.
I always stay at the Luxor. What's the Absinthe show about?
Acqua di Parma Colonia
LOL, yeh I know about the tipping arrangements I've been there a few times before.
The only one I've tried from that list is Invasion Barbare, just sampled it tonight. It was one of my favourites from the 19 samples I received. It smells quite classy but not quite to my taste...
Thanks, do you reccomend application to the skin or clothing?
I usually do skin only, 3-4 sprays around the neck and upper chest but given what QWERTYOP has said above maybe clothing would be...
I voted Issey purely because you mentioned it was to be used as a Summer frag.
I have owned both of these and I don't really consider HM as good a Summer frag as Issey. Of the two (taking Summer...
I'm going in August which I hear is the hottest month.
On that basis I'll be taking Aventus. It is a bars/drinking trip not casinos/gambling.
Is Aventus a wise choice?
It must be the civet that my nose is particularly sensitive to then, it's all I seem to get from these two scents.
Just applied my sample of this and it gets a definite thumbs up from me. The first frag from the Amouage line that I have liked. It smells very light, fresh and classy. Straight into my top five....
So I've just arrived home after a week away and there are 19 samples waiting to be tested. I've been waiting for Muscs Koublai Khan for a while so I've applied that one first. Much to my...
I'll have to revisit this one soon.
Presumably then it would be a good one for warmer weather given how it is activated by body heat?
Yes I agree it is a very nice scent, I didn't mean for it to come across like I was knocking it. The problem is that it is just far too popular in the UK these days, I hate it when every person in...
Aventus is top class and my current signature scent.
I was a bit underwhelmed by Rose 31 but then it seems anything with rose/floral notes just come across too feminine to me. I do plan to revisit...
Before discovering Basenotes - L'Eau D'Issey
- Aventus (in warm weather)
- Musc Ravageur or Tobacco Vanille (in cooler weather)
A definite improvement I think.
I've so far tried Memoir, Epic and Jubilation from the Amouage line and didn't rate any of them. I have a sample of Reflection arriving in two days so I'll see how I get on with that. This thread is...
Marquis De Sade
Aventus (even though I can't smell it but others can all day long)
Rive Gauche PH
I have a small sample atomizer of this stuff and I can barely smell it at all even straight out of the bottle.
Yes it is episode 2. I'll be watching.
Creed for this reason.
To me Musc Ravageur is by far the best.
I have a sample of Noir Epices on the way too.
Some great feedback guys, thanks a lot.
This happens on most internet forums.
Even when there are no incentives it seems some get a kick from simply achieveing a higher post count.
It's called post whoring.
Does it contain Iso Super-E?
LOL, just more from TV I take it?
I've had a similar experience to Komak. I ordered a sample of Muscs Koublai Khan within a larger order of circa ten samples. When they arrived a note was included stating that MKK was not in stock so...
The bars in the UK are smoke free anyway but I take your point.
Do you not get strong projection from MR, I find it to be a bit of a sillage monster?
By that do you mean that MR and TV...
I get this with Aventus, 30 minutes and it's completely gone to my nose but I get compliments even 8 hours after application.
Yes, for me it's the vanilla that links them I think. I get more vanilla from TV the longer I wear it to the point where it's probably 80/20 vanilla/tobacco. With MR there's still a strong vanilla...
Does anyone else find these two fragrances quite similar? I like both but can't justify purchasing both.
Which would be your choice or feel free to suggest something similar (preferably niche or...
2. Rive Gauche PH
3. Boss In Motion Blue Edition
6. Tom Ford For Men
7. L'Eau D'Issey
9. Millesime Imperial
It's a real compliment getter for me, nothing else has come close.
I've noticed this also.
Aventus is the top compliment getter for me at the moment.
Where is this deal available?
There are lots of Bond No.9 sample on ebay but I have struggled to find New Harlem also.
The Perfumed Court don't even do samples of it!!
It's not a powerhouse to my nose but not subtle either, somewhere in the middle.
I have a bottle of Fahrenheit purchased in the early 90s, does this mean it's vintage? I don't have the box.
Rive Gauche PH
Another vote for Aventus.
Some great suggestions there, thanks for the responses.
Some of the other Tom Ford line have quite dark bottles, not entirely sure if they're black though.
Armani Black Code
Two women complimented me on Aventus within the last week.
I think I just mean less sweet than TV, I only seem to get the tobacco for the first few minutes with TV, after that the vanilla seems to dominate which makes it feel feminine to me.
Great tip, does this work the other way too?
It definitely feels on the masculine side to me too, but not quite far enough that I'd be entirely comfortable wearing it.
I've recieved my sample of Tobacco Vanille which I like a lot, much more than I expected I would as I'm not a huge fan of sweet fragrances, but I think I'd prefer it if it was a bit more on the...
I'll be watching.
I bought my Aventus direct from the Creed online store in the UK and it smells BETTER that the sample that I already loved.
I had the same experience as Adonis. I bought a bottle a few years ago without knowing much about frags at the time except that I wanted something different to what everyone else was using.
2. L'Eau D'Issey
3. Rive Gauche PH
I'm too inexperienced to come up with any more just yet.
Having received my Rose 31 sample I vote for Aventus. I like the Rose 31 much better than Carnal Flower or Black Aoud but I just can't get past the fact that floral says feminine in my mind.
Aventus for me but I'm also loving my sample of Bois du Portugal at the moment.
When someone says the three words: big floral perfume .............
............. the only two words that come into my mind are ................ CARNAL FLOWER.
Black Aoud is also worth a...
I've got a Rose 31 sample arriving tomorrow so I'll post back then. I didn't like Black Aoud or Carnal Flower as they are just to floral for my liking so I'm sceptical about Rose 31 but there's just...
Rive Gauche PH
The top two I like, the middle one I'm meh, the bottom two I dislike but all are projection monsters.
Which house produces Oxford and Cambridge?
That's good to know, I am about to order a bottle from them.
Those were the first two samples I ever ordered, also from Les Senteurs. The Aventus I received from them had good longevity and sillage.
I have never had a broken sample from them yet but I am...
I don't get any ashtray from Aventus but I get it really strong from MI.
Thanks a lot, I knew there'd be an option to disable it somehow.
This is exactly what I have been doing. Good advice.
I've had exactly the same experience, I've read loads of reviews on here, done searches, read the posts and I too have only discovered two...
I just sampled this one for the first time yesterday and again today.
Fecal - NO
Urine - NO
Harsh - YES
Bitter - YES
Sharp - YES
Powerhouse - NO
I've not been in this game long enough to recommend ten. I have sampled and/or owned only circa fifty frags ever. Of those fifty the two must haves are:
2. Musc Ravageur
I've never smelt the Odori Cuoio but having recently received a sample of XXV her description doesn't seem to fit with it to me.
XXV clean and not overpowering?? I think not. My guess is that she...
I'm not sure if this is in the right section so apologies if not.
Is it possible to deactivate the auto subscribe facility that subscribes me to every thread I post on and sends me e-mails all day...
Quite a conclusive outcome.
I'm glad I have a sample of TV on the way.
This one is on my list of ones to sample but as yet I have not ordered it. It will be in my next batch.
I had reservations about whether it might be too feminine from reading the reviews.
I've taken delivery of some more samples. Verdicts as follows:
- Epic Man: I liked the opening but it quickly dries down to a rather soapy and non-descript fragrance to my nose. Sillage...
I have tried both, I wouldn't give an opinion on them if I hadn't. I know they are quite popular and I did like both but I ruled out buying either them for the reasons mentioned above, especially...
Great thread, I have either sampled or have samples on the way of all of the most popular recommendations here.
My BN research has not been in vain.
It depends if you want to spend a fortune on something that 90% of people will mistake for Cool Water or something that lasts about an hour before it disappears.
I totally agree with the above.
For the record, of the ones I have sampled I will be avoiding the following:
Kouros - because it stinks of piss to me
Black Aoud - far too feminine for my...
To me it really does stink strongly of piss, I'd never wear it.
www.theperfumedcourt.com have a huge range, I've placed quite a few orders with them lately without problems.
Are you saying more is better?
GIT is classier but too many untrained noses will mistake it for CW which is what puts me off wearing it.
www.lessenteurs.com or direct from the Creed website.
Green Irish Tweed.
