Absolue pour le soir
Green Irish Tweed
Own all three, for going out I'd say Noir de Noir.
Very nice scent, I got a bottle a few years ago as a Christmas gift. Opening is fantastic, but alas the longevity is quite patchy on me.
Lumiere Noire PH
Green Irish Tweed
Yes, several times. How did I know they were lying? Their lips were moving.
Wow, almost bought a back up bottle of LDDM last week, glad I held off now. Extrait version? I'm in 100%.
Lumiere Noire PH from your list and I'd take APLS over Grand Soir.
Thierry Mugler- Pure Shot
You're going to need to start exploring Middle-Eastern houses, Abdul Samad Al Qurashi may have something.
Alternatively, you could just go a little heavy handed on the Jubilation if you find the...
Coromandel and Mazzolari Lui
So another dud then essentially?
Because to a lot of people it is wearable and it doesn't need to be versatile and "wearable in different situations?"
I expect it to show back up in the private blend collection soon enough, under a different name, a minor negligible tweak and a doubled price.
Perhaps something like H.O.M Blackbird may fit the bill.
Really interested in this one after seeing this thread. Surprised there's not more talk of it, as the notes and reviews seem stellar.
How does it compare to Noir de Noir? Sounds like they have some...
My old man is going to Selfridges today, told him to pick it up for me. Won't get it though for 3 weeks.
Is this one still in production? If so, how does it compare to the vintage.
Diaghilev for me, whilst Amber Aoud is excellent, many other scents do exactly the same thing (with real oud too) for a fraction of the price.
In what sense?
Some of my favourites, not counting Attars.
Roja Dove- Diaghilev
Olivier Durbano- Black Tourmaline
Chanel- Bois des Iles
Amouage- Jubilation 25
Amouage- Epic Woman
I've gone gone as high as 7, it's not the Goliath beast it's made out to be.
There is no "best" with a house like Amouage, it's a banquet buffet, you sample and choose what you like. With that said, you can't go wrong with any of the original to mid releases:
Sounds great so far, thanks for the promising feedback. How was the projection and longevity? How does it compare composition/performance wise to their last offering Wonderoud?
Anybody had a chance to try this one yet?
Only review I've managed to find for it so far:
-Absolue pour le soir
-L'air du desert Marocain
-Green Irish Tweed
My favourites would have to be Lumiere Noire PH, Noir de Noir, Rose 31 and No.88.
Don't blind buy, sample first. They're both polarizing fragrances, but with that said, my personal preference is for Habit Rouge EDT, as it's the superior fragrance.
Great write up, agree wholeheartedly with your findings. I wonder now that Christopher Sheldrake is now working for Chanel and only part time with SL, coincides with the downfall in quality releases.
On paper this should be straight up my alley, but unfortunately after blind buying a bottle of the EDP, it went straight in the drawer after several wears.
The opening is promising, but then it...
From my wardrobe:
Back to Black
L'instant de Guerlain Extreme
From my current wardrobe:
Muscs Koublai Khan
Absolue Pour le Soir
L'air du desert Marocain
Bois des Iles Parfum
Thanks for the feedback, will definitely sample this. So if APLS is a Cobra, would you say Grand Soir is the same Cobra, only "de-fanged"?
Put it this way though, it'll now be a hell of a lot easier to identify "vintage" bottles 10 years from now!
Not impressed to be honest, much preferred the old variety and set up. Plus the wooden tops look rather cheap to boot. As others have pointed out, this is clearly a cost cutting exercise...
None so far, although I may spring for a bottle of L'ombre Fauve in the future.
Knize Ten (1924)
Opium PF (1977)
Bois des Iles (1926)
Habit Rouge (1965)
Great fragrance, one of my go-to orientals when I want something warm, light and inoffensive, but not too restrained.
"Noir Leather" must have been taken.
Pleasant, but not worth the price of admission. If I remember correctly, CDG Kyoto does something similar for a fraction of the price.
Is this confirmed as discontinued?
Try Bandit EDT..
Not bad per say, but very underwhelming (yet again), a pass for me.
Is Grand Soir to replace APLS in department stores and boutiques only? If I remember correctly APLS will still be available in MFK boutiques and their flagship store?
2nd niche fragrance I ever bought, really nice. A fun fragrance to wear, with a great dry down.
Isn't that illegal?
Isn't that what Viagra is for?
Because it's very nice indeed, but it is far from spectacular (like all Le Labo scents).
Derby for me, it's a class above (slightly).
Few early ones I dismissed only to U-turn on and buy a bottle were Terre d'Hermes and Dior Homme. Later on changed my opinion on Leather Oud and C&S Cuba and purchased both. Most recently though, it...
Own TL and NdN and would recommend NdN. Tuscan Leather is OK as a dumb reach now and again, but it's far too heavy on the synthetics and isobuterol to the point of smelling like plastic. NdN is at...
First thing which came to my mind too. Quite clever actually, will be interesting to see how it compares strength/sillage/longevity wise to the "vintage".
I wouldn't exactly say hate, but Tobacco Vanille is disappointing after that opening.
I tried it last week, it's pleasant if a bit underwhelming. Imagine Jubilation XXV stripped of all its baroque opulence and left with it's hazy grey ashy incense and a slight boozy sweetness, coupled...
If you're on a budget and just straight up want compliments Dolce & Gabanna Pour Homme and Chanel- Allure Homme will work. If you want something more refined you could try Amouage- Reflection Man or...
Azzaro Pour Homme
Pour un Homme
The 3rd Man
Oliver Durbano- Black Tourmaline Extrait, is the only scent which reminds me of LDDM. Morocco during Halloween.
Yes, APLS is the best in line up for me and a firm favorite of mine. I hope more people here buy it to help mitigate any discontinuation!
None, as the best ones in the line up can be had cheaper and superior.
Tuscan Leather > C
Honor Man> V
Gold Man > No.1
Lumiere Noire PH is excellent and the most unique out of the trio. APOM is excellent, although I prefer the stronger, more complex Reflection Man for my Orange Blossom fix.
Pluriel did nothing for...
Had this one for years, not quite as amazing in its current format as it once was. Still amazing non the less, a rich sumptuous complex leather.
Depends on your budget, something like Guerlain- Derby or Creed- Green Irish Tweed would be excellent.
Possibly something like Puredistance- M.
Because it's like comparing an original to a xerox copy.
From the mainline directly marketed to men, Egoiste with Antaeus closely behind it.
Dior- Leather Oud
Montale- Black Oud
Just tried this one today, really really underwhelming.
Just tried this one today, not bad, but definitely at this present moment not FBW.
Nobody has mentioned Comme des Garcons yet?
-CDG EDP 2011
-CDG Series 6 (Dry Clean/Skai/Garage)
-Odeur 53 & 71
Absolue pour le soir is the only one I've felt compelled to buy back ups of, got 3 bottles of it now. Other than that, I've got 2 X 100ml bottles of the CDG 2MAN and 2x New Haarlems.
Like one of these?
Naturally, there is zero correlation between Creed and the Nazis, I was being facetious because Royal Mayfair was allegedly bespoke made for The Duke of Windsor who allegedly was a Nazi sympathizer....
Yes, tongue in cheek in reference to the previous hyperbole that Royal Mayfair was fragrance non-grata due to being the signature scent of the Third Reicht or something.
If you wear Royal Mayfair you are by default ultra right wing.
L'air de desert Marocain
I wouldn't call the Firminech factory "exotic" ;o)
The Musc for him EDP is being phased out to be replaced with the For him Intense EDP in the mauve slate bottle.
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme
Those are the main ones, as I've owned and used multiple bottles of each back in the day.
LOL, Oh the irony.......
Musc Ravageur by far.
Songe d'un bois d'ete
Absolue pour le soir
1740 Marquis de Sade
Green Irish Tweed
Memoir man for sure.
There you go:
Own both TV and BTB:
TV Opening > BTB
BTB Opening/Dry Down > TV Dry down
Profumi del Forte- Ambre Mediterrenea
Olivier Durbano- Black Tourmaline Extrait
Montale- Aoud Cuir d'Arabie
Is Sahara noir really discontinued?
LOL so true, was about to say the same thing.
Memoir is deceptively complex, it doesn't appear so because it's so seamlessly blended.
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme.
Amouage by far.
Somewhat, if I'm wearing a lighter grey suit, I'll go with Invasion Barbare or Jubilation XXV. If I'm wearing a darker/black suit I'll go with Puredistance M or Memoir Man.
Depends on the occasion and colour of the suit :coolold:
Wasn't expecting anything else...
