Re: This is a journey into Skank

I can't really tell the "volume" of skank at the moment - just be aware that it's there. So you might be right!

Re: This is a journey into Skank

It's actually more analogous to physiotherapy than childhood learning, to be honest. Google Hummel and smell therapy, it's quite fascinating.

Re: This is a journey into Skank

Hey! I'm right here! Also, I've been there and done that, and lost all memory of smell - that is, essentially, what parosmia, phantosmia and caosmia are. When the brain no longer "remembers" how to...

Re: This is a journey into Skank

Whilst this is (arguably) quite sound advice on how to approach a new fragrance for someone without a smell disability, in this context, it's akin to telling a blind person they should be able to...

Can't wait to see what you make of the Zegna! I thought it was hilarious and wonderful and terrible and amazing all at the same time.

Salome is utterly fupping amazing. You should definitely try it. But yes, in a well-ventilated area the first time!

Re: This is a journey into Skank

Great question! The answer is complicated though, first off, I generally don't get the same "there's something here to be smelled" messages most people do when there's a general "background" smell in...

Kim Kardashian - the original fragrance. Not even slightly ashamed though.

Also, one I helped create: Paradox by 4160 Tuesdays. Feels a bit weird appreciating something you made yourself.

Re: Fragrances that can make you cry

Scents that have made me cry recently:
    Sel Marin by Heeley,
    Fathom V by Beaumont London,
L'Air de Rien by Miller Harris,
    Safran Rare by Amouroud.

Scent that makes me cry generally:
    Clair...

    Re: Anosmia Awareness Day

Yes, I've essentially had to relearn smell. With post-viral anosmia, the neural pathway between the brain and the olfactory nerve no longer exists (owing the death of the olfactory nerve), so you...
  13. Re: Anosmia Awareness Day - What would you miss?

Gorgeous list, thank you! I hear you on the personal hygiene and rotten-food issue. I'm constantly asking my husband "is there a smell?", because sometimes I can tell there's a smell, but I can't...
  14. Re: Anosmia Awareness Day - What would you miss?

No one specific place, just the smell of outdoors, mostly. Unless there's something particuarly stinky around, I just smell ... nothing.
  15. Re: Anosmia Awareness Day - What would you miss?

It'll put hairs on your chest ;)
  16. Re: Anosmia Awareness Day - What would you miss?

Oh, the smells of places! I miss those so much.
  17. Re: Anosmia Awareness Day - What would you miss?

I had to google those, amazing! What do they smell like? Are they very like grapes?

  19. Anosmia Awareness Day - What would you miss?

It's February 27th, and it's time for my semi-annual "Anosmia" piece in the features section: (http://www.basenotes.net/features/3416-anosmia-awareness-day). I was wondering (because I'm a curious,...

  22. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

I genuinely hope it never happens to you, I can see just how much it would take away from you. May you always have a very happy nose xx
  23. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

I've actually seen that Otrivine can actually be used as part of an anosmia relief programme, so, I think maybe you have a point. I'll be avoiding them for a while though, just in case! I'll stick...
  24. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

Thank you, me too! On my second round of antibiotics now, and things are better, but I'm not "recovered", not yet, at least!
  25. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

I use a sinus rinse (I use NeilMed) at least once a day. It's great for clearing the sinuses in a natural way, but I'm not sure it's made that much difference to how I smell, sadly! Still, it has...
  26. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

I wouldn't describe MY losing my sense of smell as a tragedy, but it has been a huge problem, and it is still something I miss on a daily basis. Oddly, I've found water to be a bit of a revelation...
  27. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

Yes, that's why I use it once or twice a year, tops! It's a desperate emergency-only type thing for me, all these things can be habit forming, which is a pain. I have discovered nasal lavage as a...
  28. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

Yeah, didn't use that, either. ;) my cold "remedy" is bed rest and paracetamol. I did use Otrivine on one or two occasions but that doesn't contain zinc so far as I know.
  29. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

No, I'm in the UK, this product doesn't exist over here.

  32. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

Thanks, teardrop! It has been a horrible process, but my doctors are both sympathetic and understanding, and we have high hopes of a recovery. I still get flashes of scent, so that's a good sign. No...
  33. Re: Article: Anosmia – Don’t take your noses for granted!

    Re: Plum by Mary Greenwell

I have a bottle of this and I love it. Surprisingly, I don't get any fruit, just lots of aldehydes and a gorgeous "perfumey-ness" that's been missing from a lot of recent perfume releases.

    Oddly,...
