Amber Absolute. However, it was sadly discontinued. Really must be worn in cooler weather.
Best amber scent period.
Thanks for the link. Yes, that is a really good deal!
Almost every one of theirs that I have smelled so far have been pretty nice. None blew me away, but they were all quite nice except for Gold Leather, which I am still unsure about. Sometimes I...
If you need it for warm weather, I would go with Neroli Portofino.
If you need it for cooler weather, I would say Tonka Imperiale.
Wow. Some people really like to roll the dice. Even if it really is legit, I would always kinda wonder - and that would ruin the experience. Would never be worth the savings.
DK Fuel for Men is my SotD.
I just blind bought this bottle about 6 months ago. Today was my 3rd wearing, so I will be good for life. But if I didn't have much of it, I MIGHT consider buying it...
Fuel for Men
I am pretty cautious where I purchase my fragrances from. Unless there is a very compelling reason to do so, I avoid these smaller / obscure sites (and I don't consider saving $5 or $10...
I have some that don't last very long. I just wear those later in the day or when I am just going to be around the house and can reapply if I want. I haven't found the need to take such drastic...
Welcome !!
absolutely exactly what I was thinking.
Amouage ::: Stephane Humbert Lucas 777
Serge Lutens ::: Histories de Parfums
You may be suffering from olfactory fatigue. Don't spray near your face, and only give it a sniff every few minutes. If you keep smelling it, you will not be able to smell it for very long.
You might want to look at HdP 1899 Hemingway or MFK Amyris Homme
Never gets discussed here, but you really should give Neela Vermeire Creations - Bombay Bling a try. Opulent mango / black currant with floral notes along with some vanilla base. Longevity is all...
Thanks for sharing hednic!
not sure about the. Ambrette, but the rest sounds good. Looking forward to hearing your impressions. Atelier makes some pretty good stuff, so I am a bit interested!
For the most part, I agree with you. However, the OP was asking if you felt like you "wasted" the fragrance. That is different from the people who always chirp "I don't care what other people think...
I don't like the thought of wearing a scent more than once / month, but if I had to only wear one for a whole season:
SPRING: Dior Vetiver
SUMMER: Xerjoff Nio
FALL: Creed Spice & Wood
Nope. And the shower I took wasn't a waste either.
Thank you for pointing that out. I was not aware there were different releases. I can only assume then that I have the newer one. Because it sure doesn't really smell rooty or leathery. Perhaps I...
Another vote for Royal Oud. One of the best fragrances out there.
You should (if cost is a concern). It's not the same, but pretty close.
they were a bit similar, and I prefer Wonderwood, but it would still surprise me, since it is so new. And if it's true that it was a limited edition thing it would be strange that it was never...
Neela Vermeire Creations
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver is one of the most versatile and best smelling fragrances I own. Absolutely love it. This would be my top choice from the list, and many other lists.
If you want something a...
Personally, I would take any ONE of the top group over Tom Ford Oud Wood.
I am a huge vetiver fan in all it's styles. But I really find the Annick Goutal version to be quite lacking. I would dump that one.
I can see why they would want the bottle back (it is something out there that makes them look bad). But they should certainly pay for the shipping, and throw in some freebies for your trouble.
Either of the Dior scents would be my choice. But I love Edition Blanche and Guerlain Homme Intense also.
Very interesting article - thanks for posting! this.
Interesting how some people took a "hednic Appreciation Thread" and turned it into a "hednic Assessment Thread" as if he were a fragrance that we are dissecting. We weren't here to give him a grade...
Kenneth Cole Black
Some good ones mentioned already. I will add:
Guerlain - Cuir Beluga
Arquiste - The Architects Club
HdP - 1899 Hemingway
Montale Aoud Legacy. Very fresh. Nothing I would have expected from Montale. My most worn scent last year.
This house makes quite a few scents that I really enjoy wearing. I will certainly be giving this one a try when I get a chance.
My favorites for this season are below.
But my top 5 overall:
1) Creed Spice & Wood
2) Creed Aventus
3) Brückner Aoud 1
4) by Kilian Incense Oud
5) Armani Privé Oud Royal
Ralph Lauren Polo
No close second for me.
La Fumée Ottoman
I love the scent of Sublime Vanille. It is the closer one to a pure vanilla scent. Like has been mentioned, it is lighter and more thin of the two, and therefore more feminine. Sublime Vanille is...
Congratulations on at least getting a response from them. Hopefully this will lead to an actual resolution.
Keep us posted on what happens next!
You truly are what makes Basenotes what it is. You have a passion for this hobby that hasn't changed a bit as long as I have been around.
Always around. Always...
More of the "XJ 1861 Collection", rather than flankers. We all know that "niche" houses don't do flankers...
When I read "grungy", the 1st that came to mind was Knize 10.
The Different Company
It took me a few wearings to really love it. One of my favorites now.
1) De Bachmakov Excellent fresh scent that is very long lasting. Crisp and perfect for spring/summer.
2) Oud for Love One of the best, smoothest, richest smelling oud scents.
3) Aurore Nomade ...
Just a few of my favorites:
Armani Privé - Oud Royal
YSL - M7
The Different Company - Oud for Love
All very wearable and long lasting.
Ok, let's say Amouage makes a new line of scents: The Amouage Intro collection. It is pleasant line of acquatic scents (with a matching his/hers of course). They are priced about the same as...
:dankk2: Yeah - just hoping now that it arrives safely!
Not surprised at all that a lot of women like Axe scents. They are created to be appealing. And they probably spent a great deal of money doing market research and tests before releasing them to...
I don't normally post here until I have the product in my possession, but I need to make an exception for this one!
Brückner Aoud 3 (finally)
2 Bottles of Armani Privé Cedre Olympe (finally)!
That's the first thing that came to my mind also. He probably paid $80 for it, figured it was 1/2 full...
I think a modernist scent would be clean / fresh. However, it wouldn't be in the traditional Eau de Cologne mold, since that is not "modern", but more timeless. It would need to be long lasting,...
I don't really think "niche" = better.
I treat each scent on it's own merits as to how it smells, not on whether the company that makes it also makes clothes, watches, etc.
Puredistance Black smells pretty "black" to me.
But many / most do not.
Well, I think no matter how you [sensibly] define "niche", yes. Both are niche.
Unless your definition is "I don't like it so it's not niche"
Yeah, I think generally we do seem to like many of the same things.
As far as Italian Bergamot, it's not the longest lasting scent for sure, but I do get a good 6 hours from it. However I...
These are some of my favorites:
Xerjoff - Nio
The Different Company - De Bachmakov
Zegna - Italian Bergamot
Dior - Homme Cologne 2013
Both nice, but I like Chanel Allure Homme Sport Cologne Sport a little more.
Generally, not a big fan, but 2 are very nice:
Avignon - possibly the best incense scent there is.
Not really a fan of YSL, but M7 is very good (in all its versions). Splendid Wood is also pretty nice.
If you like it a little soapy, Neroli Portofino is excellent.
If you want it a little less soapy, I would go with Xerjoff Nio. It's a little crisper and less soapy.
Longevity on both is...
Wow. Yeah, a lot of people must, because I see these fragrance stands quite often. Never bothered to stop and see what they had though. Priceless.
+1 Carnal Flower
Also, BN9 Chinatown
Both amazing scents, but just lean a little too feminine IMO.
Vetiver: Dior Vetiver
Oud: Armani Prive Oud Royal
Rose: Armani Prive Rose d'Arabie
Amber: Tom Ford Amber Absolute
Homme Sport (2012 version)
I like Perry Ellis 360° Red every bit as much as AdG.
I loved almost every by Kilian scent I smelled a few years ago. But like you, the more recent releases have been underwhelming. I like some of them, but none of them have the impact on me that some...
Probably Oud Royal. Like most of the line, it smells classy and distinctive, and very long lasting.
But if we are talking about warm weather favorites, it would be Cedre Olympe (with Vetiver...
Acqua Di Parma
I always put something on during the day, but usually go pretty light.
Yeah, I think Gucci's Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme want's a sport cologne flanker now.
Stupid name (no shortage of those), but pretty nice smelling. Similar to Dior Homme Cologne 2013.
Edition Blanche. No contest.
Sport is very nice, as is Sport Cologne Sport (not listed), but EB is one of my very favorite scents. Longevity is very good for all of them.
I don't rate it as one of my favorite summer scents, but it isn't nearly as bad as many claim. It's fresh and pleasant. Longevity is a little sub-par, but not terrible. If you just want something...
No, it's actually the word "Peel" hand written in a silver sharpie pen on the back of the bottle. From the front it does look like something inside the bottle.
Aoud de Nuit
Nothing so far... other than occasional sneeze which may or may not be related to the Polo Double Black that I think was causing it.
Not really sure what makes a scent "sexy" despite hearing the term used all the time here on BN.
Honestly, I say neither, but Oud Wood if I had to pick between the two. The wet diaper smell of...
Today I received:
Looking forward to giving this one a try soon.
Very underrated BN9 Scent - congratulations!
Dior gets a slight edge. But love both lines (except for one or two).
Scents that have drawn a lot of comparisons to others:
Scentstory 24 Gold
Gucci Pour Homme I
Dior Homme / Intense
It's like the worm in your bottle of mezcal.
Also, you assume it's a human hair. This is probably why many perfume bottles are opaque. Wonder what all is in your bottle of Montale - maybe...
Great unisex scent. One of the best plum scents out there.
There is no wrong place to start - only wrong places to stop.
Good luck finding the ones that click. The 2 you picked are well liked by many people, so there is a very good chance you will be...
It's not bad. It's not my favorite cedar scent (personally I think the cedar is not the main player, but other woody notes play a bigger role IMO), but it's a a very good light scent with pretty...
Whenever you think of flankers, you should think Guerlain Shalimar.
Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial L'Eau Si Sensuelle
What is that - 3 (maybe 4) layers deep?
Honestly, I need to read this thread to figure that out. Never found the attraction for this scent. I wear it once or twice / year wondering what people see in it. Smells a little cheap to me. ...
Wow. I think I could make something that looked more authentic than that.
That's too bad - sorry it didn't work for you.
Armani Privé - Rose d'Arabie
Heeley - Agarwoud
Creed - Windsor
By Kilian - Rose Oud
Eau d'Italie - Paestum Rose
+1 Zegna Javanese Patchouli
Also, by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
Absolutely LOVE both. GV more versatile, but DHS maybe better for summer. Just gotta have both. Heck - all 3 (DHS 2008 & DHS 2012).
HOT: DHS 2008
WARM: DHS 2012
COOLER: Grey Vetiver
