While tending lately to wear cool weather scents even in warmer temperatures, still appreciating the way colder weather seems to point out some of the additional strengths of these fragrances
Great collection so far, would also consider adding Creed Original Santal and C&E Sandalwood to a possible testing list
Among the very affordable ones: Woods of Windsor Cedar Woods
Welcome back! L'Homme Ideal Cologne may also deserve some further testing.
Welcome and congrats for the great starting lineup. Also adding Caron pour un Homme to the already great numerous suggestions so far.
Thanks for the info-a great idea for possible future purchases
Perhaps also Opium Eau d'Orient
Difficult to day, but a certain similarity with Rive Gauche- although perhaps less refined, subtle and more simple, upfront- might make Quorum worth considering
While not my favorite Chanel, might still consider a full bottle purchase as a simple, yet classy daytime choice
Several, but Rance Le Vainqueur, La Martina Hombre, Le Dix by Balenciaga are among the likeliest ones
Never been there, but if I would, the choice could quite likely be something leathery, similar to Knize Ten, vintage Drakkar, vintage Antaeus or other scents with the same style
No preferences or recommendations from a personal viewpoint, just any SOTD that would be normally worn
At some point, especially here on BN, it becomes (almost) inevitable.
In my opinion, Guerlain LIDGE and to a lesser extent, Joop! Homme both smell like candies/fudges associated by me with...
With apologies of bumping a relatively older thread, this reminded me of the "Trans-ginger" episode in the 18th season of South Park, along with a possible celebrity fragrance idea: namely...
Thanks for the info, still duly noted for testing as soon as available
At the extremely affordable, yet still decent quality end of the spectrum: Sir Irisch Moos
With apologies for being illogical in the previous post: the main and perhaps only good thing about it may be the "higher expectations" for better quality EDP/Parfum flankers, thus the fragrance...
The fact that most perfume manufacturers (perhaps designer and niche alike, as well as possibly even other market segment, although niche is slightly better equipped/prepared both in term of regular...
Quite a salad fan myself and as Greek salad is a personal favorite anyway, will have to look up online a good recipe for it
In addition to the great suggestions so far, Chanel Cristalle and Aqua Allegoria Limon Verde may also be worth testing/considering
Perhaps also Acca Kappa Cedro and/or Gucci Nobile
Congrats! Was always satisfied with the service of this particular retailer (albeit its local subsidiary in charge of my country of residence) - regarding other fragrances so far, but still otherwise...
Always enjoyed it, up to the point of even considering for work/office/daytime wear with fewer sprays applied
Perhaps also testing the very same fragrance on separate occasions, over distinct periods of time and then evaluating which one lasts and performs well as well as which one not so might help.
Perhaps also something like Eau Sauvage Parfum, Rive Gauche EDT or Hermes Voyage- citrus that manages to be inoffensive without being predictable or generic, while remaining stylish and versatile...
It was a good gourmand when it was first released and still decent enough to personally still enjoy it
Makes one wonder whether past recessions had any impact on fragrance prices and whether this might be possible again
Indeed seconding Preferred Stock- what at underrated and under-priced fragrance of sheer powerhouse quality!
Perhaps also because, aside from the tradition and thus carefully perfected skill for this genre, they seem to master the right proportions/doses, neither too much nor too little, of this particular...
Ideally: more of all three at once (this is also what I voted for, but more as an ideal rather than the absolute truth). Realistically: too often (almost) nothing.
While unaware about the reformulations these fragrances may (or may not) have undergone, the following fragrances still smell quite close to the positive aspects of "Old School qualities", namely:
For a strictly on-topic reply:
personally considering Bvlgari Black reasonably appropriate for the occasion, yet would not exclude at least testing some or most of the other previous suggestions...
Then again, the house of Creed was always a bit of an "usual suspect" in terms of not just originating, but also fueling sub-forum discussions. If I remember correctly, a Creed sub-forum existed at...
Essenza is the personal favorite from the entire range too- quite step up from the regular ADG, while Profumo is decent, without truly being outstanding or groundbreaking
As a rather modest and belated suggestion to the great fragrances so far: perhaps also Fracas and/or Bandit by Robert Piguet
Tried this, liked it quite a bit without being overly impressed
Congratulations. Also adding Boucheron pour Homme EDP or EDT, Gucci pour Homme, YSL Rive Gauche pour Homme, Guerlain Homme Eau Boisee to a possible testing list for this occasion.
The list of personal favorites changed very little so far, in spite of steadily expanding with a few new favorites each season, each few months or each year
Yves Rocher Hoggar
Only know, so far, Egoiste and Egoiste Concentree from this list, liking both of them enough for recommending them without second thoughts in any of their formulations
Thanks for sharing. While a truly interesting concept, it remains to be seen how fragrance houses (niche, designer etc.) manage to market and/or to capitalize on this idea.
There might be some impact.
At least, hypothetically:
if and only if all consumers from BN (and their disposable income spent on the fragrance market), the few fragrance professionals here-albeit...
Loved it from the first and during each subsequent testing, at any rate, enough to consider looking up and/or purchasing a full bottle at some point (from a reliable source for rare, discontinued...
From a personal viewpoint, these fragrances always tended to last and project quite well to my nose, during each and every testing so far- thus wishing you an truly speedy recovery, since these...
Punk: perhaps Lagerfeld Classic, G-Man by Gainsboro and/or Jovan Musk
Beat Generation: quite likely the first (thus, by now vintage) batches of Chanel pour Monsieur, Dior Eau Sauvage and Guerlain...
Perhaps also YSL Opium Eau d'Orient may be worth testing, in addition to the great suggestions so far
Thanks to the good input, may consider buying it even blind- did the same with Lapidus pour Homme and was not disappointed
Also, the aformentioned Dove Men + Care Clean Comfort is said to smell quite similar to Le Male- and knowing both reasonably well, I can agree with that
Thanks for the news- the local fragrance stores seem to go slow on supplying this new release, but will continue looking up the next few days, in search of a better concentration of this already very...
Perhaps also Scottish Fine Soaps EDT, Fire & Ice by Revlon, several Bourjois fragrances including Masculin Equateur and Acier, Silences de Jacomo
Perhaps some of the Guerlinade note, as well as some of the florals and spices leading up to this may be perceived as somehow heavy, stuffy and/or dusty by some, yet personally never had a problem...
Aside from the great suggestions so far, also adding YSL pour Homme, Yardley Citrus & Wood and Boucheron pour Homme EDP to the list
And for me personally, Axe Dark Temptation has hints of Rochas Man and Le Male in it
Quite an impressive selection here, would most likely choose Ambre Sultan from this list, followed by Prada Amber
Congratulations for an impressively good deal on this exceptionally good fragrance
Tending to second the opinion that if the bottle is in good condition, 150-200$ may be a realistic and obtainable price
Welcome! A few other possible choices, highly appropriate for a beginner collection, may also include Dior Homme Sport and Intense, Bleu de Chanel EDP, CK One Shock and/or Mugler Cologne
Quasar by J del Pozo
Thanks for sharing the article- even any attractiveness aside, it does become understandable why vanilla is one of the most familiar, popular and comforting notes around
Thanks for posting this impressive side by side review- as usual, very knowledgeable, extensively informed and beautifully, as well as interestingly photographed
A few additional options may include Joop Nightflight and Lapidus pour Homme
Knize Ten Golden Edition
Welcome to Basenotes! Maybe also Quasar by J del Pozo, Rochas Man, Moschino Uomo or Versace The Dreamer.
My recommendation may sound a bit unusual, but TF Noir de Noir may also be a great choice
Perhaps also Dsquared Potion
l'Homme- wonderful powerhouse leathery citrus-chypre
The Dreamer-nearly gourmand-like dry, yet also sensual and spicy tobacco
from the Jeans line- Black Jeans (dark florals that managed to be...
The local subsidiary of this particular retailer (actually, the national equivalent of this, since beautyspin was linked ad a partner/in-house company on their website) was handling my fragrance...
As possible budget choice much better quality than its highly affordable price: perhaps also Pierre Cardin Iris Sauvage
Eau Sauvage, but also Bleu de Chanel and Gucci Guilty could be possibilities worth considering
Maybe also Fahrenheit 32
Even the few choices that are not downright bad are quite underwhelming
Definitely the one with more bottles here
Almost forgot how good this designer fragrance, personally tested and enjoyed a few times in the past, actually is
From a personal viewpoint and IMHO: Le Dix by Balenciaga among others
Hello and warm welcome. Glad you found and joined us!
Perhaps also, in addition to the great suggestions so far, also:
Citrus and Wood by Yardley, along with the two discontinued Fendi fragrances Theorema Uomo and Life Essence
From this list, would pick something quite likely to be complimented and to be enjoyable without being too common, namely either LIDGE or DHI or DH Sport or, at most, TDH. If she shares more of your...
A few tens of dollars/Euros for each additional 100 ml (and also pretty much a personal going rate for the standard amount of, yet again, 100 ml)
Also adding Knize Ten- lasting and projecting like a true "beast" in the good sense of the word, an almost powerhouse-like leather chypre long before the actual emergence of powerhouses
Welcome and hope you will have a great time here. This is the right place for any fragrance discussion and with nearly limitless fragrance knowledge- both great to start and to continue in the world...
Most likely, Green Tea Bamboo or Ardenbeauty, both by Elizabeth Arden, both for my mother
Looked up some of the local stores of major fragrance retail chains- did not see this version yet, but thanks for the info, since now I can look up these very stores, asking specifically about,...
While marketed under the trademark of this famous magazine, also curios whether this fragrance may also include note similar to/in common with the cocktail with the same name (cranberries, vodka,...
Another vote in favor of Caron Pour un Homme, however with no disrespect nor disinterest towards the other option, just loving this venerable French classics like few other fragrances in the whole...
If this particular mood/sensation/attitude involves/evokes suggestions, feelings and/or associations of being and smelling naturally yet well-groomed, masculine in a simple and elegant way- then yes....
Joop Homme Extreme
Carven pour Homme
Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Honeysuckle
TF Violette Blonde
YSL L'Homme Parfum Intense
If the bottle is uncapped, but the sprayer still otherwise protected, would still choose this very bottle as long as the price is about 5-10% lower than the capped version, if however it is priced...
From my experience so far- while the thread starting fragrances have outstanding performances each, Opium pour Homme being a very good example for this. almost any vintage formulation of almost any...
In addition to the great aforementioned suggestions, perhaps also:
Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne
Like all the three, but the first place would be probably divided between Citrus&Wood along with Bergamotto Marino, while Mugler Cologne would still easily qualify for a respectable and well-deserved...
In a few words: successfully outlasting olfactory fatigue not just over a certain period of time, but also within a certain radius during this very same time interval
Quite a frequent blind buyer myself over the years, but not so much on purpose or into it, far more due to a few simple yet decisive technicalities: relative lack of samples, of vintage formulations,...
While a great added bonus, tending to agree that they never should be the main priority. Also bearing in mind that while compliments do happen, it is not just the fashionable bestsellers who garner...
While it still smells great to me, did notice several slight fluctuation- sadly, often below the expected longevity/projection as of lately
Chevignon Brand for Men
There was a theory on BN suggesting that the actual fragrance ingredients only represent about 5-10% of the final retail price of most mainstream/designer fragrances, the rest being packaging,...
