I’ll expect a vote of 10 to 1 in favour of DHI, and even as a big TF fan I’ll go with the majority. NE was a big disappointment to me.
If you’d said TF Noir on the other hand….
I’ve got a small sample, so can’t do a full review but happy to share my thoughts from a brief sampling.
It’s ok, not as dirty and animalic as I expected – which is a good thing IMHO. I see it as...
SOTD Bleu de Chanel EDP
SOTE Idole de Lubin (last of my sample, now keeping an eye out for this at a good price)
I like most of the ones I've tried. In most cases not enough to pay the somewhat exorbitant asking price, but there aren't many I truly dislike.
I seem to spray less than I used to, probably average 4-5, but some things will be more some less, I can't possibly imagine doing more than 1-2 light sprays of something like ADP Oud.
CdG Floriental. Not as feminine as I expected, but very ordinary indeed.
Boss The Scent. Fruity, ordinary, forgettable. Nice bottle though.
Dior Homme Parfum. Gorgeous opening, couldn't stop...
Tom Ford for Men for me, though I've been shopping and tested quite a few others today.
I'll go against the grain and say Eau. But I'll be surprised if it's anything less than around 10 to 1 in favour of DHI
Don't know if you're ever down in Newcastle but you can try the Monocle series in End Clothing, they normally have testers out of a few of the harder to sample CdG ones. They stock Avignon but I've...
SOTE Amouage Jubilation XXV
Wouldn't say its a favourite but you really need to try Embers by Rouge Bunny Rouge
Got this yesterday in the same order as my Amouage but completely forgot to mention it in my...
SOTE (from a sample I'd been saving, but since I've just bought a full bottle.....)
Same. It's way above what I'd be be prepared to blind buy, so had to get samples first, then the Amouage disappeared off there, only to return without Jubilation. Epic was very nice as well but was...
Yep. Been looking out for it as they had most of the Amouage range heavily discounted but Jubilation wasn't there until I checked today.
Tried this ages ago and loved it, saw it a few minutes ago for a very good price so took the plunge, can't wait to get it.
Own DHS 2012 and Bleu edp, and prefer Bleu, though I do like DHS. Both are close in performance and though I’d say the Dior beats the Chanel, it’s not by a massive amount and I still prefer the...
Work staples for me
Grey Vetiver edp
Prada Luna Rossa
Bleu de Chanel (my preference is edp, but the edt would be fine)
Dior Homme Eau
Terre d’Hermes (but don’t overspray)
As has already been said, Valentino Uomo.
Narciso Rodriguez For Him Bleu Noir
Nice while it lasts.
This comment could apply to most of the line, Chambre Noire is the only one I’ve tried that performed well. One of them, can’t remember which, was so light I could barely...
Spice bomb for me. Love it, especially at this time of year. I love the opening of Man in Black, but the performance isn’t great leading to a weak, bland drydown (if I remember correctly from my...
Valentino – Uomo (from a sample)
Not sure how this one passed me by but really liking it so far. Seen it pretty cheap so could definitely be tempted by a bottle.
YSL L'homme Libre
It’s not that easy if that store is your only option for trying stuff in your area though.
Back on topic my own favourites are
Grey Vetiver edp
Tom Ford For Men
SOTE was ADP Colonia Oud.
Couple of light sprays and it was booming off me for hours. This is possibly the strongest one I have, an absolute monster on me.
Viktor & Rolf Antidote
Really like both. Prefer the smell of the original, the Extreme is very close, but performs better.
Having said that I think I'd go for the original. Still waiting to see it discounted here in...
SOTD - TF Oud Wood
SOTE - Jovoy Psychedelique
Tried this a couple of time in-store when it first landed and it really grew on me. I saw definite Pluriel in there, and was toying with the idea of getting a bottle, I think I’ve probably defended...
Perfume-Click and Allbeauty occasionally have good prices on Creeds, nothing much at the minute though.
Dior Sauvage, from a sample.
Less impressed on a full wearing than I was from a couple of quick sprays in-store when I first tried it, but I’ll see how it develops over the next few hours.
It’s a beast so a small amount would last a long time. Or buy one of the copies. Monotheme Black Leather is a very good, much cheaper, alternative.
Don't dislike it, just don't love it.
Not a huge fan of Eau Sauvage but love TDH, so will comment on that one. It's the edt I own btw.
Citrus, earthy, very masculine.
Longevity and projection are both excellent, so good you have to...
A couple of Amouage samples.
Epic Man - nice enough, probably not something I'd buy.
Jubilation XXV Man - not strictly the first time, but the previous sampling was on a day when I tried lots...
I prefer Sauvage to many things that get hugely praised on here. Only tried it a couple of times but it grew on me.
I’m one of those that sees a similarity to MFK Pluriel. If I didn’t own Pluriel...
Tom Ford Noir edp
Not being religious I always associate incense fragrances with church. I’m Catholic so did go to church a little when a child, but that was a long time ago, maybe this is where the incense...
They had reduced stickers on, had previously been £30 I thought, but may have been £25.
I don’t know if I’m that struck on Quercus anyway, tempted to sell it on….
Most on the Extreme/Intense flankers.
I'm amazed people are so hung up on ads, I think most fragrance ads are cringeworthy and couldnt tell you who the face of a single fragrance was ever. I can recall a few ads, but only vaguely.
I very rarely get compliments, and when I do its often from one of the same few work colleagues who know I have quite a few bottles.
Today however I received two compliments from total strangers....
I can’t really tell, I either like something or I don’t I’m not sophisticated enough to be able to pick out quality ingredients, naturals, synthetics, etc.
I’ve briefly sniffed a few very...
Narciso Rodriguez For Him Bleu Noir
SOTD - Prada Luna Rossa
SOTE is yet to be decided, but it'll be one of the recent batch of samples I bought.
The two at the top of my hitlist have been there for a while now
Olfactive Studio Chambre Noire
Dior Patchouli Imperial - Really really nice. One of the best patchoulis I've tried. Couple of small sprays from a sample and it was bouncing off my skin for hours.
Tried this yesterday and it wowed me, really liked it. Whats people's opinions of this in comparison to Coromandel, and also to TF Patchouli Absolu?
And where can you get this in the UK?
SOTD - Grey Vetiver EDP
SOTE - Bentley Absolute from a sample
I’m a bad example as my skin seems quite inconsistent in that it soaks up some things but others just bounce off it and project and last really well, but I got no performance issues from this at all,...
Mauboussin M Generation – Disappointed, quite ordinary. Glad I just got a sample instead of blind buying a full bottle.
I own LIB, and did a side by side comparison with a sample of RO, and could barely tell the difference. I still have some of the sample left so will do it again one day, just to see if I still feel...
Probably not a true answer to your questions but a few thoughts….
GIT – I’m in the minority here but I just don’t like it, give Cool Water a go, quite similar and a fraction of the price.
Tom Ford Extreme
I’ll go for 10 that either don’t seem to get mentioned as much as I feel they should, or when they are the comments are mainly negative
YSL L’Homme Libre
Lomani Intense Black...
My wife loves Black Orchid so eager to smell this as I was going to get her a bottle of the original for Christmas. Love the all black bottle.
Tried the original on myself once, not for me in any...
Beat me to it.
For incense and smoke you can’t go wrong with Rouge Bunny Rouge Embers
The fact I have most of the affordable ones I want, which leaves me wanting stuff that is £100+ a bottle and I find it hard to bring myself to spend that much on a fragrance, even if I can afford it.
Never tried Sartorial so couldn't comment on that. Pluriel isn't weak on me, but I get nowhere near 12 hours. I've sampled Sauvage a couple of times and felt it had no performance issues at all on my...
Could I ask why? I've tried Sauvage twice and I got a lot of similarity abour an hour or so into Sauvage, and better performance, but Sauvage is around half the price.
Agreed. Original AA is much stronger than AS. And much nicer, to me anyway.
Lomani Intense Black
No idea if they smell synthetic, I'm no good at discerning that sort of thing, but neither appeal to me at all. I've tried GIT a few times due to it's high regard on here but it borders on being a...
Ask in Debenhams, they may have the tester in a drawer. There's only room to display so many bottles. Boots stock it, as do John Lewis and House of Fraser. the Fragrance shop also stock it I think.
Chanel Egoiste, vintage.
Tried the Zegna Essenze Patchouli, Ambrette and Oud recently.
The patch one was the standout to me, from a very brief sampling anyway, though I was disappointed not to get the chance to try the...
As a big big fan of the house I was extremely underwhelmed by it. Sweet, bland, and disappeared very very quickly on me when sampled. I'll give it another go, but unless my first impressions were way...
Bit of catching up to do as been on holiday
Spare bottle, slightly used, of
One I hated at first...
Dior Homme Intense
Tom Ford Noir
Spicebomb/ Spicebomb Extreme
Penhaligons Quercus and Endymion for £18 and £20 respectively IIRC, a few months ago.
I've seen other Penhaligons and L'Artisans as well but none of the ones I'm interested in.
Tried it again earlier, and then put some MFK Pluriel ona few hours later when I got home. I really struggle to see how anyone could fail to see the similarity between Pluriel and Sauvage after the...
Tried it and liked it. That's all that bothers me. I honestly don't care if it smells synthetic, my nose isn't sophisticated enough to be able to spot that anyway.
Avignon, Bois D'encens, Sahara Noir, 2 Man, Full Incense
Good choice for either based on my impressions from a sampling earlier.
Posted my initial thoughts in one of the other threads. But had it on for a little longer now and really can't argue with anything in the OP.
The opening is pretty ordinary, after about 30-60...
Wow, that good? It was the only one they had unfortunately
Bought it. Actually 46 Euros so about £32. Had been looking at the 50ml of the current version and was hoping to get that for around £40 so happy with this even if I will have to buy a little travel...
That would be the plan. I'm on holiday at the moment and its 45 Euros in a little perfume shop in Majorca. It's definitely edt not after shave as well.
Just tried it. Nothing special in the opening, half an hour in and its projecting pretty well but not convinced by it. Reminds me of something but can't put my finger on it.
Edit: I typed that in...
Just seen one of these for a decent price. Is it old? Can't recall seeing it before.
Tried most of theirs. A real mixed bag but Chambre Noir is great so I'll give it a go some time. Stupid name though.
SOTD Dior Homme Sport
SOTE Narciso Rodriguez Bleu Noir
SOTD Tom Ford for Men
SOTE Michael Kors for Men
Narciso Rodriguez Bleu Noir. Bought it as well.
SOTD was Bleu de Chanel edp
My office staple is Grey Vetiver edp. But for something more masculine maybe try Tom Ford Extreme. Dior Homme Eau is also a very good office choice.
Me too. Despite what some say I see massive similarities, based on my own nose, between the Lomani's and Aventus and Royal Oud
Disagree. Spirit Silver is very close to Aventus to me and Intense Black was almost indistinguishable to my nose to Royal Oud, but at about 1/20 of the price
Tried it a few times and like it, not enough to buy it, but it's ok. One of many that I would be tempted to get just to add to my rotation if the price was right i.e. much much lower than the £69 it...
