    In Penang I recommend the Arab(?) trader S.A. Hamid Bin S. Hassan Baj at 184-86 Beach Street. He has an amazing collection of oil based fragrances, including pure oils (oud, sandelwood, etc).

    I think age is not important and you should go for a fragrance that is 'beyond' your age. Try something adventurous such as 'Rien' by ELDO or something from Comme des Garcons.

    Kalemat by Arabian Oud occupies some of the same territory as TV. Sweet vanilla, tobacco, but also amber, honey, musk and not-so-strong oud. Less than $ 100 for 100 ml and a very good fragrance.

    Not sure about soapy, but Essenza is more floral than the others with orange blossom, rose in moderate doses. I love it! I find the others good, but perhaps a bit boring dominated by citrus.

    Vetiver (vintage) is my favourite. The current edition is a bit sharp.

    From the unisex/female line, I like:
    - Apres l'Ondee
    - Sous le Vent

    There is no doubt that skin (chemistry) influences longitivity, sillage, smell etc. I think for some fragrances, it doesn't make much of a difference, but for others, they can smell vastly different...
