  1. Re: Kim Kardashian "Flour Bombed" at Launch of "True Reflection"!

Okay, then we're basically agreed and I'm happy to leave it there too. Just don't under value the influence of the 'average joe', there's still a lot of good people in this "messed up world",...
  2. Re: Kim Kardashian "Flour Bombed" at Launch of "True Reflection"!

Those are the words of someone who has lost faith in humanity (as opposed to inhumanity). I do not think Kim Kardashian is a 'bad' person. I think if she stopped wearing fur it would reflect well on...
  3. Re: Kim Kardashian "Flour Bombed" at Launch of "True Reflection"!

She certainly is, but not sure that's a good reason to form any kind of opinion (or lack of one!) on her fur-wearing...e.g. if she was not beautiful would that change your opinion?
  4. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Ha Ha! Everyone here writes very well and convincingly, and it's been interesting to read, but I don't think I've learnt much to further my appreciation of art or fragrance...
  5. Re: Kim Kardashian "Flour Bombed" at Launch of "True Reflection"!

I would say that it's possible to oppose animal cruelty whilst still supporting human-based charity as well. Generally people who care for animals I think also care for humans too. Slightly...
  6. Re: Kim Kardashian "Flour Bombed" at Launch of "True Reflection"!

Having seen the conditions on fur farms etc I do understand the need to protest the issue, and I think it reflects very badly on Kim Kardashian that she continues to wear real fur, despite the matter...
  7. Re: Kim Kardashian "Flour Bombed" at Launch of "True Reflection"!

I disagree with this type of 'protest', but having said that I support Kim Kardashian even less for wearing real fur.

Re: If fragrances are like wines

AllanC is some sort of Academic Troll. Look down his entire list of posts on this site, and 9/10 of them are rudely written to provoke an arguement. The evidence is too circumstantial to make stick...
  12. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Personally speaking I don't come here to be 'challenged' at all. I'm sure your opinion is more worthy than mine (should you ever get off the fence and share one). Most people I've spoken with on here...
  13. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Okay, thanks. it's no real problem, but just about every one of his posts on this site in reply to anyone basically consists of "no, you're an idiot and I'm a lot cleverer than you are" which is...
  14. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

  15. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

I'm starting to get a real feel for your personality AllanC - real laid back, relaxed, friendly, tolerant of others...am I close?
  16. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Well put...that's what I meant when I said there's no point in over analysing art. Just enjoy it!

...Got over your headache then? :-)
  17. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Possibly: chances are, even if the product has been made to make money, the creators are probably passionate enough to be in it for more than just the money. They probably have talents that will be...
  18. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

For me (just from my experience), the bottom line is: if you spend too much time analysing exactly what art is or isn't, you are going to be missing the point of it all in the first place - to enjoy...
  19. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Oh yes, definitely you're right - the art dissipates the further you get from the source. But it still can be appreciated as art, I think, and that applies to fragrances too. Art I think walks hand...
  20. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Another similar analogy: is listening to a CD of a band exposing to you to as much art as listening to the original master recordings. I think it's a good point you make but it's not going to get you...
  21. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Can I assume you don't consider yourself a particularly artistic person?

The more you try and narrow down a definition, the more elusive one will become. This thread is evidence of that. This is...
  22. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Go and have a lie down then.

I still think my very basic, non head-spinning description of art as a "creative statement" was most accurate. In which case, is perfumery an art form (at least some...
  23. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

Unless you put it on display, nobody is going to know...most art is a 'work in progress' anyway. It's a rare artist who achieves perfection.

Must say it's very interesting to read basenoters views...
  24. Re: M7 Oud Absolu ( first impressions compared to reformulation #1)

I definitely get a subtle difference between all 3. Vintage = darker, reformulation = softer, Oud Absolu = fruitier. How much this is due to the relative ageing of the first two I can't be sure....
  25. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

I think all "creative statements" have the foundations of art in them, yes. Not everyone agrees on what constitutes art or not, but that's as close a 'catch-all' definition I can think of at the...
  26. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

    Why?

You ignored the second part where I said "to make some sort of statement". Art is a statement to me. Why, what is it to you?
  27. Re: Things suggesting that fragrance is an art form on Basenotes.

I think art is something that uses creativity, to make some sort of statement or impression. A lot of fragrances are made by artists, then?
  28. Re: M7 Oud Absolu ( first impressions compared to reformulation #1)

Can't say for sure 'cause I only have the one bottle to compare with. For as long as it has been in my possession it's been well-protected from extreme heat changes etc. If it's true that the top...
  29. Re: M7 Oud Absolu ( first impressions compared to reformulation #1)

I would hazard an opinion that they have tweaked this, at least a little bit. My bottle of the first reformulation is 2009 I think, so it's not that old.
  30. Re: M7 Oud Absolu ( first impressions compared to reformulation #1)

Thanks! I'm not the best at judging notes by any stretch of the imagination, but I definitely got the mandarin coming through at the top, loud and clear. Other than that, there are more similarities...
  31. M7 Oud Absolu ( first impressions compared to reformulation #1)
