My take on this is bottle blind buys are for those who enjoy just about everything they smell.
Sampling is for those who dislike about everything thing smell.
I only find, if I'm lucky, 5 out...
33% Deer Musk + 66% Mysore Sandlewood Attar
I agree with Mr. Turin on Beaufort East Indies. I got a sample several weeks ago. Very nice scent.
I also liked 1805 very much also.
Absolutely agree 100%.
What works for me is to always sample first. Then if I like it, buy a small decant and sample several more times. If I really like it I'll buy a larger decant. If I go...
I wanted to vote, but decided not to after carefully reviewing the options. There's really nothing wrong with all of them except they're all really just 3-3.5 star frags. Far from being giants IMO....
Black Gemstone by Stephane Humbert Lucas
Iris Cendre by Naomi Goodsir
Thanks for adding....
I got a 15ml split. I never buy full bottles of anything except Puredistance M.
To my nose, Basenotes KMA is hands down the best scent offered by the house, and I felt I needed 15ml to satisfy my...
I find it interesting that they're calling this a vetiver frag. To my nose this is all about labdanum. It's only slightly smokey which is a plus. The florals tame it down just right for a very nice...
Naxos hands down for me!
Fidelis by Histoires de Parfums

I usually get Luckyscent orders in two days, but since it's MLK Day today I'll get my sample of Aeon Tuesday. By the way I have done some Blind Buys in the past with nearly everyone being a mistake....
I sure don't have the balls to blind buy, but I did order a sample as usual. I'll find out Monday what this Aeon 001 is all about.
I also won't get trapped by a politically correct reviewer who's...
So right. I just don't know why anyone would take the chance. I already know after sampling 300 new scents a year for many years now that 290 will be losers. The odds are against me for liking one...
I stopped blind buying several years ago/ I would rather spend a fortune on sampling than blind buy an unwanted bottle. I sample 300 new scents a year and rarely do I find I want a whole bottle. I'll...
Except if your a perfume bottle collector like my mother-in-law. She just sold an empty bottle for $8,000.00.
strifeknot just added a spilt on this for those interested.
People today just get offended and butt hurt too easily. I thought the mans posts were thought provoking, to the point, and actually funny at times. I like how he's not trying to be politically...
I'm interested in a split on this one.
Thank you strifeknot for this very quickly filled split request.
I hope a spilter sees this and offers a split. Let's just say I 've sampled 90% of the ODriu line and had no interest in wearing any of those scents.
The last two days I've been wearing Basenotes...
Interesting, you talked me into viewing your wardrobe. Each to his own, but I don't see anything in your wardrobe that I want to wear or own.
I find at least 95% of the designer scents to be too...
This should be very high on the must sample list.
Classy, clean without being soapy, and the perfect sillage for any environment. I haven't been able to stop reaching for this most mornings since I first sample it.
Sampled all of them. Didn't enjoy any of them enough to want to wear a second time. Way over priced also.
The day I sampled Black III I was told I stink.
I like Framboise Noire the best out of the 8 I sampled. The notes sound weird, but the smell is heavenly. Black s Club Leather and Oud Alif were just okay, but no where near as good as Framboise...
I like the House of Matriarch also, but you're not missing anything not experiencing Fitnessence. I bought a sample directly from HOM and this scent was just OK, and for sure not bottle worthy.
The Mexican Vanilla is very good. New Musk Man is clean and enjoyable but lacks lasting power.
+1 - I smelled nothing wrong with it, but nevertheless, it totally failed to impress my nose.
Surely not interested in finishing my 3ml sample.
And I'll be here in 2016 to carry on being a 65 year old hippie that still likes to party.
strifeknot still has one spot open for anyone interested in a 10ml decant.
Fusion Sacree - Obscur (Lui) by Majda Bekkali
I sample this today. I like it. The bergamot, and peach keep it light and brightens it while the rose and heliotrope are blended very nicely. The vanilla doesn't overpower or shout in any way. I...
I'm not sure what's wrong with being a hippie. I was a hippie in 1969 at Woodstock, and I'm still a proud hippie today.
I do understand why you may not be a patchouli fan.
Considering Bruno Jovanovic's other creations I'm a little less excited. Nevertheless I definitely will sample.
A Lab On Fire Almost Transparent Blue (2013)
Avon Crystal Aura (2006)
I like Fire Opal by DSHPerfumes. If you've ever smelled the discontinued Orange Spice by Creed, I think there's some similarities here.
My sample should arrive tomorrow. The House so far has been just OK, but I just always have to sample anything Mr. Ropion creates.
Brooklyn perfume Company
Just say "tea" and I cringe.
If you want something strong, long lasting, sumptuous, and something I personally never get tired of - Puredistance M
You'll have to shell out the $$$ but you'll never regret it. Life is too...
If you're not getting compliments from time to time, did it ever occur to you that you may not be wearing something worth complimenting. Many scents I wear don't get compliments, but others I get...
Havin g trouble with P.M. - so I want 10ml of Iris Cendre - Please and Thank You
I had the opportunity to sample this last week. World Class real oud scent from a World Class nose. People like to bitch about the price, but if you want the real deal you're going to have to pay up...
Normally this kind of scent doesn't interest me, but since Rodrigo Flores-Roux and Yann Vasnier are the noses' - I will seek out a sample.
I really enjoyed the work they both did for Arquiste. The...
Haven't been in my local Sephora in five years. They never had anything that interested me, and I don't believe it's changed. The internet is the best source for perfumes IMHO.. I can get a sample of...
Iris Cendre by Naomi Goodsir
This one just hasn't got enough attention. I love this Liqueur Charnelle.
Let me just say I wasn't an iris fan until I smelled Iris Cendre. Truly an outstanding fragrance done in the minimalist style of Jean Claude Elena. This should be high up your must sample list -...
I am a gourmand lover, but this one is a scrubber for me. I got a sample In an order I placed with Luckyscent. Noir Exquis just came with it. I thought what's this, so I put a daB on the back of my...
I didn't think it was too feminine for me, just too boring for me.
I sampled it twice now. Didn't please me at all - just another generic scent to my nose. I'm glad many of you find it pleasing to you - wish it was for me.
No, because I feel it's a waste of my money. I know I wouldn't wear it if it has poor anything. I don't feel it's a good value unless a perfume performs excellent in all categories. I see no reason...
I own a bottle, but never reach for it. I would just enjoy the great one's you currently own. I see no reason to buy Cuir Cannage.
If your looking for a unique take on leather - try Black III from...
If anyone wants to sample The Perfumed Court has some available.
Yes, sadly this gem has been overlooked. Five is outstanding. My favorite warm weather scent by a million miles. I like it much better than Lampblack, the cult favorite.
My favorite mint is Menthe Moderne by DSH Perfumes. Way better than anything listed above.
I had the same experience when I sampled it.

Day - Invasion Barbare
Night - Puredistance M
You can always ask since I don't see a pack offered either. It's pretty much a one man operation, so maybe he could accommodate. His samples are 2ml which are double the price of the 1ml samples...
He is out of Brooklyn. He's also a Basenotes member (semanticnoise) if you have any questions. I will be sampling in a week or so.

After 50 years of sampling and collecting( I'm 64 and started when I was 14) I've noticed that I keep reaching for only a few scents in the morning when I'm deciding what I'm in the mood for wearing....
Even though the first 3 offerings didn't get me too excited, I'm still anxious to sample Salome. Sample ordered.
I had just the opposite experience. I expected Tabacco Vanille, but was pleasantly surprised how much better I enjoyed it than Tabacco Vanille. I like Herod.
In addition to many good ones listed above.
Calling All Angels by April Aromatics
Eau De Parfum by Josef Statkus
La Liturgie Des Heures by Jovoy Paris
BoisD' Ascese by Naoimi Goodsir
I sampled Zen and Shambhala. They were both nasty. Smelled like children had played with mom and dads essential oils. Maybe you have to be from Malaysia to appreciate. YUCK for me.
A big +1 for both the Anatole Lebreton scents. Both OUTSTANDING!
+1 - Your just kidding yourself to think otherwise. The ingredients are either banned, not available, or has to be used in limited percentages. Some things, when there gone, there gone.
I always enjoy your thoughts. Please do give us an update.
Not as good as 33. I liked Ryder, but not enough to buy a bottle or decant. My sample was enough for me. There's nothing really at all to dislike just a little lackluster for my tastes.
Most places have been out of stock for over a year now. Can you tell me where I can buy it?
I thought it was good, but it didn't inspire me enough to buy a bottle, or even a decant. Surely not the equal to 33.
Nice to see you here. Miss your posts. Even tough we had many disagreements, I always respected your point of view, and your thoughts in general always made me think.
OK! For the sake of argument, I will acquiesce to you and TNBLUEMIKE. Only 8 out of 9 are losers.
At least the Opus Series is consistent. All losers.
Here we a brand new house with three offerings WOW! They're all very good. Here's somebody that really understands how to make great scents. Priced to sell at $110.00 for 50ml. If you ever have an...
My number one compliment getter - Puredistance M. Wear it and you'll get compliments. I get compliments from men and women quite regularly when I'm out and about. Just yesterday I was shopping for a...
A major plus IMO.
I'm sampling this today. I didn't not see your thoughts about this scent until I went searching to find out if anyone else reviewed it yet.
All I can say now is I totally agree with you word for...
Absolutely a great explanation. Being an audiophile myself, I totally get this.
Audiophiles don't own Bose because their ears tell them they're not very good speakers.
Perfume lovers don't own...
I don't hate Creed. I just have never smelled one that was inviting enough for me to purchase a bottle. For the most part I find the quality of ingredients to be mediocre and the longevity to be...
Invasion Barbare by MDCI
Black Gemstone by Stephane Humbert Lucas
Oud by Brooklyn Perfume Company
Czech & Speake #88
Blackbird by House of Matriarch
Homage by Amouage
I thought this one has a stench to it. A scrubber for me.
Ormonde Jayne - Black Gold
+1 for Black Gemstone
Also Xerjoff Naxos
& Fundamental by Rubini
For me M is simply the best fragrance on the planet in current production. I sample 300 new scents a year, every year, and still have not found its equal. It still WOWS me every time I wear it....
What are my requirements for a $700.00 plus bottle of perfume? Must have a WOW FACTOR. Good strength. Good sillage. Good longevity
Wait a minute, I just realized Black Gold doesn't have one of...
I totally agree with you, especially your final thoughts, I would like to add a couple thoughts of mine. First of all, like you I needed to give it a second and third wearing to get all the nuances...
SUÉDOIS by Euphorium Brooklyn is a scent made for Hayden-Harnett which is a Brooklyn-based fashion company that produces handbags, accessories, and apparel, founded by Toni Hacker and Benjamin...
I ordered mine the same time you did and I got mine today. They're getting retail for 10ml decants, and instead of being greedy, they're offering customers expedited free shipping. It simply doesn't...
You're so right. Great marketing! I just don't understand why anyone would think this is a finished scent ready for bottling. If I hired a nose, and this is what they came up with, I would fire them.
Save your time and effort. I've sampled at least 20 of their offerings, and have not found one to be bottle worthy.
Mortal Skin just smells okay. I know if I were given a bottle I would never reach for it. Doesn’t smell offensive in any way, just not pleasing to my nose at all. I had high hopes because I do think...
Of course it's possible. Interlude Man from Amouage has proven that it's possible.
