Nice work alfarom. Thanks for sharing.
Well done for taking the time to highlight the differences! This is exactly how fragrances should be contrasted. Whether I agree with what you say or not (I do btw) is immaterial.
You broke the 2...
My post was very terse and it obviously riled you. Apologies.
I should've kindly explained to you that Reflection and Le Male are chalk and cheese, and walked you through the many obvious...
The 2 things that grate a fragrance enthusiast:
1. Declaring 2 very different frags as very similar or interchangeable without properly testing or analysing them e.g: GIT & Cool Water, Reflection...
This is one of the rare times that I've done exactly that. I now have 2 x 100ml bottles of it. It will be such a shame if this one is discontinued because it is one of those products that flies the...
My vintage Paco Rabanne stands head and shoulders above every other fragrance in my collection. Even if it only a rare treat for me these days the minute I sniff that bottle I'm reminded of how...
Once the opening is gone you get treated to what is a very novel way to implement a fougere heart. It is very nuanced just in a subtle manner, which is what makes it so special.
I can't argue with...
I wont argue because your opinion is as valid as mine. It's just that I could say:
IB is a beautifully blended and complex nu-fougere that evolves beautifully from start to finish. The quality of...
100% with you bro. No difference beween the 2 really, GIT and CW are almost the same!
I save money by drinking Nescafe Instant instead of buying freshly ground Arabica beans. I still get my...
ericrico, I haven't really posted much these days; mostly I've lurked.
Your posts are usually so helpful and passionate that I had to chime in here.
The Third Man is beautiful, a dark floral...
Lovely, well said!
Perhaps we pursue the avant-garde so feverishly that we ignore the quality mainstream?
Maybe the ad for BdC should've been: "No candied fur - swamp thing floral - smokey...
It's clearly unfashionable on the board to like BdC! :)
BdC is a very high quality fragrance despite it been labelled "generic" by the experts.
I agree that it is a very safe and innofensive...
... Double post ... See below
Sure it wasn't A*Men?
Unlike Hirch I don't enjoy it enough to wear it at all these days. The urine like accord is the only aspect of this fragrance that I can focus on...
All the girls in class will like AdG. You can now give your older sister her computer back.
I'd be happy with these ones for the rest of my days:
Narciso Rodriguez Musc Collection For Him
Gucci Pour Homme II
Hermes Terre d' Hermes
Gaultier Le Male
Or quite simply one might be completely missing its awesomeness. :)
To answer the OP: The people that like Le Male are the individuals that happen to be in-tune with its awesomeness.
Lavender, mint, & vanilla. What's not to like? Le Male is a...
I haven't posted here in while, so hi!
There's a couple of points I'd like to make about DH & DHI.
1. The make-up bag/lipstick vibe is due to the leather, not the iris. This does not make a...
Affordable: + 1 to Terre d'Hermes
Prestige: Kobe or Nio by Xerjoff.
I've corrected Joe's post :)
Sorry guys, they're very different imho. I strongly prefer the Lutens.
Pudds, I've never loved a leather scent, but Tuscan Leather is the most wearable of the lot, by far.
Maybe TPC gave you a crap sample mate?
Yep the SMW on HGH! It took 3 wears but I'm smitten w' it.
BTW: Tou're too buff! Run or cycle a couple of times a week my man. :)
PuddleMonkey, just give up on all those silly science experiments you're conducting and go retest Xerjoff Mefisto. Run, don't walk.
I'm completely blown away at how amazing this fragrance is.
:) :) :)
Signing off on 2011 with a BANG!
Xerjoff Mefisto 75ml
Mefisto is fast becoming my favorite from what is a very good line. There is a similarity with SMW, but I find the Xerjoff to be deeper and richer. There's an amazing violet...
Agree with all of the above but, Reflection Man is not really neroli prominent.
I got more suntan lotion than neroli. Nice but not really prominent.
The best neroli fragrances imho are...
All fragrances that you don't love are overpriced...
Lighten up bro, which Creed wearing middle aged tosser pissed in your kornflakes? :)
This goes back to my post about these threads not really being about fragrance. Things get too parochial. It...
You're allright Puddlemonkey. Glad we're good. :)
PuddleMonkey, I also felt very empowered when I learned to use the search function a few years back. There's no need to get so defensive mate, my post really wasn't aiming to take a shot at you,...
** RANT ALERT **
This is the "Male Fragrance" discussion board and hence where we should be discussing the juice.
All the BS about historical accuracies and brand ownership belongs in the...
I'm Creed neutral, I like some of their offerings but I'm not a fanboy.
I couldn't care less if the perfume house that makes what I like today, was the chosen provider for some monarch 200 years...
I prefer my orange blossom with some citrus. APOM blends it with cedar and a dirty musk.
APOM has a musk that doesn't agree with me 100%. It's my only problem with it...
Trying APOM and Kobe side by side again last night, they seemed much less alike...
The nose works in mysterious ways. :)
APOM and Kobe share an oriental, deep character which is atypical of neroli prominent scents.
Kobe opens brighter, and evolves more, but I too found that they have very much in common in the...
Now that's just nasty. :)
+1 to NR for her as a similar vibe. LNpH is pure velvet as far as rose & patch goes. Think Barry White. ;)
Not many can handle its awesomeness on a regular basis, I like it very much, but march to the beat of my own drum. :)
Your 1 and 2 are the mfk I've happily paid retail dollar for. Excellent.
This is surreal: After trying LNPH my first reaction to Rose 31 was the same as Jack's.
I've done a complete 180 with Rose 31, and actually prefer it to LNPH. I love it for what it is, the "Rock...
and this. :)
Richard James EDT
A tuberose dominant male floral. Beautifully blended, this is not a soliflore.
Ok, I'm interested!
+1 Another post I agree with...
Valid post. I'm still looking for something as magnificent as vintage Fahrenheit and vintage Cacharel pour l'Homme.
Nice post. Couldn't agree more.
I like idh very much, and find it to smell wonderful. It's actually very unique and innovative for a recent designer fragrance.
I love a guy with a mean streak. :)
To the OP: Do a site search for dandy, the word you're looking for is "dandy"...
The brilliant opening of Uden is completely absent in Sculpture, but the heart is quite similar. The opening of Sculpture is rough and chemical by comparison.
I perceive a very real difference in...
Nice to read your post mate! As for pepper frags, Bang!
A tragedy. May she rest in peace. Her short life was full of achievement. She'll be remembered.
Nice post Jack.
I completely agree w' you about LNPH. Very smooth and perfectly blended. LNPH has a rose accord, but its more than a masculine floral imho.
The ones I've tried were fanstastic! Kobe, Uden, & Nio especially. In my opinion they use exquisite materials, to enhance and evolve rather than reinvent the wheel. I'll keep discovering more about...
I don't play the house game anymore. That's because:
1. People tend to get parochial on basenotes.
2. There's no clear cut "best house", they all have hits and misses in their range.
In before the move!
I've never had any indication that this is the case. :)
Eau Lente Diptyque
Great Jones: A clearer, modernized Paco Rabanne.
Eau de New York: A bright and uplifting Neroli.
Silver Factory: Sexy incense & amber.
I'm finding Nio to be bottled happiness. The opening is a green citrus which is pleasant enough. That morphs into one of the cleanest most unisex "spicy" accords I've ever tried.
I'm a real sucker...
I love being a fragrance evangelist and sharing my passion when people ask! :)
Bergamote 22 Le Labo
The neroli in Kobe is giving me a similar vibe to APOM by MFK. I wouldn't call them interchangeable, especially as the openings are different, but the neroli/orange blossom and cedar in the heart is...
Kobe is the best neroli prominent fragrance I've ever tried. This s&%t is mind-altering...
If I feel the same after I've gone through my 15ml discovery sample a FB will be procured.
Infusion d'Homme is excellent! A very wearable fragrance, with a unique clean character. I'm on my second bottle. I agree about the shower gel, very nice.
Both are conventional fougeres but Sartorial is not as classical a composition as Invasion Barbare. I've owned both for months and have worn IB more often; I find it to be warmer, smoother, and just...
It's right up there as far as Rose & Patch fragrances go. Kurkdjian knows his s&^t!
Noir de Noir: Gob-smackingly, jaw-dropingly, rich beautiful rose.
Rose 31: Spicy rose, very masculine but not dirty. This is the frag that showed me how awesome cumin can be.
Lumiere Noire: Rose &...
Not sure if it qualifies but:
Invasion Barbare MDCI
is an absolutely fantastic men's fragrance.
+1 for Derring Do
Azzaro pour Homme
Paco Rabanne pour Homme
The "Classic" list could go on forever....
Your enthusiasm for uden and kobe was a factor in me taking the plunge with the discovery set bud! :)
Discovery Set Part Two
I find it to be just OK. I own a bottle that I hardly use.
I predict that at some stage in 2012 petruccij will say something nasty about Bleu de Channel.
Orange blossom, rose, neroli, vanilla, citrus, sandalwood, vetiver, incense, chocolate, cinnamon...
And the list goes on and on... :)
Noir de Noir
How much have I spent? Like the ostrich, I prefer my head in the sand. :)
Noir de Noir overwhelms me with its beauty.
Eau de New York makes me less grumpy in the mornings. :)
Terre d'Hermes & Vetiver Tonka have that luxurious opening that transports me.
Nice collection moltening!
Noir de Noir
The next poster could very well pick the same ones from my collection... :)
