Tribute overall, and Memoir Man from the EdP's.
Yep, the first 20 seconds. But really after, its there but not in a fecal way, more of a constant purr. ;)
It's not skanky at all, more that it has a musk backbone. It's only ever a little ripe for the first 20 seconds.
okay I blind bought it, here's a few of my impressions;
I’m just looking at the perfume here, but do refer to the link below for the fascinating backstory of its creation.
Himalaya blooms on...
Vetiver Extraordinaire is ace, but Vetiver Veritas I've come to respect over time also, it has more than a little in common with Turtle Vetiver Front (read, earthy musty jungle floor Vetiver) Worth...
Kinski would be right on. Similar waxy aldehydic buzz with added green, smoke and stank. Yass!
Hurrah, another zombie brand...
Thanks for sharing, sounds interesting on many levels!
Pure Oud is closer to Oud Satin Mood than Cashmere.
Not redundant owning both IMO.
I'm a total sucker for Neela Vermeir's Mohur and also Trayee, and to wholeheartedly agree with Badarun - Zahd, total temple incense headspace! :)
Turtle Vetiver Front, it's super earthy with effects feeling almost like patchouli at times but with a slight sweet lactonic twist for balance.
Of course many of the above could apply also.
Yeah, thanks Sam for your initial thoughts. Sounds interesting!
Spot on with Cuiron. Askew could also subjectively fit the bill, in that it also features that sort of clean plasticity leather.
This reminds me of Kilian's *classy* offerings...
It's Morillas, therefore worth a sniff at least
I've become quite partial to Pekji Odoon and Aedes Palisandre d'Or for woods as of late.
Both giving a damn satisfying golden tinged multi faceted woods experience, but with the Pekji getting a...
Thanks Grant :)
If you could just delete them all, that would be great. It's just an OCD thing ;)
Link for reference:
Take my money already, like seriously - I'm so here for tobacco and "cul de cheval". Only worry would be too much sweetness from the honey/imortelle - please be an animalic waxy honey, fingers...
I'd say, largely echoing others recommendations:
Oud Shamash - Probably my favourite "western oud", spicy, layered, nuanced bliss. Top 10 stuff.
Oud for Love - Really good also - but can be a...
Caio Grant & co,
Is it possible to delete all of my SOTD records in one batch operation?
I can't seems to see anyway except individually.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
Apres la Mousson - habanero pepper & watermelon - the fresh/spicy contrast works so well. For my tastes anyway this is easily the most memorable/enjoyable of the Jardins series..
Don't laugh, but I tried Mugler Pure Wood a while back and thought - "Oud Wood".
Thanks Jack :)
BTW a couple of friends detest Sunshine Man, so as always, take my words with a pinch of salt! LOL!
Just tried it today.
Sunshine Man opens out with strong gin laced juniper and almost camphorous lavender, swiftly vanilla and what I guess may be the orange brandy join the opening, yielding a...
Montale - Mr Aoud
Pretty close, with added silage!
Sampled Garuda briefly and it's wonderful. Golden flecked resinous ambered woods with a touch of spices and (western) oud, drying down into slightly sweet woods. Apologies for crap description, but...
I'm in the cynical but realistic Hedonist camp, if you like it, buy it now.
I've tried them all and for my tastes anyway they are each and every one a winner. Probably my favourite being Eau Mer with it's fresh and wearable yet unsettling presence. Holy Shit is like the...
Theme parks are over rated... ;)
How about, Geranium pour Monsieur, Vetiver Extraordinaire, or Bigarade Concentre from Malle? Would still work well in heat, but all have some interesting facets.
Bigarade Concentre personally, love it for its slightly dirtied cumin laced facets.
Amouage Amber attar
Oh definitely Pee, yes bottle of Lafroaig first. The cap is a little funnel, it couldn't be easier.
Luckyscent Sample Speed Dating*
Arso: It's like a 'piccolo passegiata' along the Mediterranean coastline in the summer when the heat makes the scots pines radiate their resinous warmth (rather...
Stephen Jones is quite out there in an alien's future laundry detergent way.
Bit of a cliche, DHI.
Norma Kamali Incense will cover all manor of sins.
Dirty by Lush (think you can still find this online from Lush)
Nice! I have a sample on the way, looking forward to it.
Angelo, if you think my review is pathetic, I will surely take it as a compliment! ;)
My Pathetique prize arrived today! :) Thank you Angelo and Anna!
A few initial impressions. I've not read the notes list so my read on it is purely what it's saying to me (ie I'm probably way...
SL Une Bois Vanille
Tam Dao EdT - which led down the rabbit hole... :)
Do you prefer apples or oranges, would be a better question.
Haven't tried the Mahon, own and love both Sartorial and Bentley. But they are from the different sides of the abyss. Sartorial being...
Don't worry, my pathetic review will be forthcoming... ;)
Yay! My suggestion was so pathetic I won! Very kind of you, can't wait to try this Pathetic creation! :)
Some great suggestions above, I'd also add Fetish pH Parfum to the list.
Montecristo. Although I only started logging SotD's around a year ago.
1 Million... ;)
Any Creed bottle/packaging without defect is probably fake.
Beloved Man - Middle Manager
Oh that's great news, many thanks!
Can anyone confirm the state of the current bell jar juice? Does it still have teeth post reform?
Carner el Born
Dropped to the shops today and saw WonderOud on display so picked up a sample. Anyone else try this yet? A few initial impressions...
It opens with a peppery spicy green cedar sharing more than a...
Le Labo Ambrette 9
I had an operation once and the brown antiseptic gel they slavered on me smelled just like the sweet ambery facets of Amber Absolute.
Totally, that's what I was thinking - then I realised this was a zombie thread from 2012! ;)
Smelt it briefly off paper and from what I remember it came across as a gourmande, sweet but not piercing sweet, more of a burned sugary pudding sweet with a liquirice/anisic/spice facets. I wouldn't...
I REALLY love Mona's Violette Fumee. It seems to be a polarising one though, but would definitely recommend seeking it out to sample.
I don't think Journey man is a bad fragrance, I liked it, but it just feels too commercially focused in that it would be hard to outright dislike but doesn't seem to have interesting/challenging...
I was wearing MAAI a couple of days ago and fir resins and moss were blooming strong, yet more facets unfold in discovery. I really don't find this overtly animalic either, the animalics (for me at...
Blackcurrant, Italian bergamot, French apples, Pineapple
Rose, Dry birch, Moroccan jasmine, Patchouli
Musk, Oak moss, Ambergris, Vanilla
You tore the words from my mouth...
Another for Mugler Cologne
I'd say fatty animalic, not fecal. But I can be musk anosmic at times.
Agree regarding the jasmine green tea in JW deadidol.
I've been sampling the new Journey's the last few days. Some thoughts.
Great explosive zesty peppery sparkle on spraying literally lasting 30 seconds, then the pepper carries...
*Old ladies* have better taste anyhows...
Powerful, thin, sweet, fresh, lavender-like, fruity, metallic, citrusy (linalyl acetate-like), clary sage-like, well recognizable odour.
Turtle Vetiver Front. Got a sample, fell in love, then found out Lesnez has just gone out of stock of full bottles.
And exactly the same story for Slumberhouse Grev.
You will have to get in touch with them directly at email@example.com
Lpp, Antonio confirmed the following to me regarding KER:
"Not really planning to release KER as a personal fragrance, it's project created for an olfactory art exhibition in a very small ammount."
I've no idea lpp. If I hear I'll post a confirmation.
Can't really add much to deadidol and Alfarom's wonderful thoughts, but I've been wearing Maai a few times now, and fully agree, it's a treasure.
As for KER, it was apparently made as a fragrance...
AFAIK they are doing a flanker of each original for 12 months only. This year it's Bel Ami Vetiver, next year it's Equipage's turn, and so on.
This is what one of the Hermes SA's told me anyways.
Masque Montecristo would be a good start.
then Oud and Violette Fumee
The amaretto accord is going to have to be very subtle if I'm too like this one!
I bought this blind based on deadidol's wonderful and articulate impressions as I could tell it would be up my street and haven't been disappointed one bit. A few words on my impressions.
Idole EdT and Bentley pH Intense. Not exact but strong shared vibe.
Another shout to CdG Luxe Patchouli.
"Tangy" is one way of putting it (at least for the openning), but sorry I've no idea about reformulations etc, both my sample and FB were purchased within the last 12 months and were identical.
Recently discovered Seville a l'Aube and am completely blown away by it.
I'd totally agree with you that Lui is amazing, but I found it more of an animalic patch / amber beast, than green / sappy.
Whatever, enjoy it's a winner fur sure.
You can get sample sets from many niche houses for a reasonable price to get you going:
- Etat Libre d'Orange
- Parfums d'Empire
- L'Histoire de Parfums
- Maison Francis Kurkdjian
Sample, sample, sample that which you like the sound of from reviews etc (also throw in a few samples of stuff you don't like the sound of, you never know), then and only then lay down cash for full...
I love Fate Man. It's been interesting reading though this thread and I'll repeat what I've said before. The reason Fate Man doesn't get too much love IMO is that it treads the thin lonely space...
Geranium Pour Monsieur +1
Great review Alfarom! Made all the better by Montecristo which I happened to be wearing this evening. Looking guard to trying Tango and Russian Tea.
Slumberhouse Mare for me, it's that vegetal primordial verging on stomach churning feeling, definitely weird and wonderful.
^^ This curry looks too good... Droooool...!
Regarding Journey they both sound great on paper but I'm always a little cautious of Kafkaesque reviews as our tastes can differ quite often, but...
I am trying l'Artisan's Al Oudh today and is pretty fantastic. Cumin, spices, civet etc, but comforting at the same time. Pretty wearable after the opening too.
