I'm intrigued to hear people's thoughts on the EDP
Regarding the Tiffany, how powdery is it? I'm not someone who dislikes a little powder, that said it's not my favorite note
These are great, thanks so much! The Ferre in particular sounds like something I'd love to try.
Or Black is one of my favorites. I have the refill (or recharge, something like that) of the older...
I have really been enjoying vintage fragrances lately like Antaeus, Bel Ami, Fahrenheit, Norma Kamali Incense and also some discontinued ones like M7, GPH I, and Gucci Nobile. The hunt is pretty...
LDDM is great. I also agree with the Antaeus, Fahrenheit, and Bel Ami suggestions.
Bel Ami (vtg)
Thank you, Colin!
Agree that Jubilation XXV is the safest
Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I just got this bottle yesterday from ebay. Please see pics. To be fair, the seller had no idea if it was vintage or not and sold it at a very reasonable rate,...
Thought I'd share a recent ebay find. I got one set and there is one remaining: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291299127404...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I promise I'm not the seller, I just thought someone might...

I promise I'm not...
At first it looked like someone put an atomizer on a vintage splash bottle, but I see that it says spray....
Maybe the atomizer broke? Anyway, I'm hoping the juice is authentic. That stuff is...
Duchaufour would be my choice.
Ellena, Ropion, Polge, and Demachy are also very impressive to me
I mostly wore Aqua di Gio and Le Male in college. When I was 22 a girlfriend with good taste gave me CDG2 Man and Rive Gauche PH. Wore just those two for about a decade until I discovered basenotes
Agree on TDH and lampblack
Antaeus is one of the ones where the vintage really is worth seeking out. Maybe try getting a mini from ebay or crystal flacon?
I'm sure this is more than mere coincidence, but the most respected by others are largely discontinued: M7, Vintage Bel Ami, Vintage Antaeus, GPH I, and Tribute.
As for ones currently in...
This is very good advice. I went through a stage where I was buying everything. Now I think I'd be happiest with around 20 favorites. But, if you have the time and money, nothing wrong with a huge...
Morabito Or Black, Vetiver Extraordinaire, Invasion Barbare, Timbuktu, and CDG 2 Man should all do the job
I find that I enjoy most Amouages and Diors. I also really like CDG
Agree on Or Black and GPH
I find I'm happiest when it's around 30. I have about 5 decants and maybe 20 samples. I keep everything in a nightstand drawer and try to make sure I don't have more than can fit in there.
Vetiver Extraordinaire is my favorite, and as mentioned above, is very versatile. MR is good but I hardly find an occasion to wear it. French Lover/bois d'orage is very good too
I love Portrait of...
To the OP, I hope this gets resolved for you. Most people here are great to deal with. And as for below, that's just extremely generous and should be commended
Couldn't agree more! A great experience every time
Chypre: Antaeus or Jubilation XXV
Fougere: Invasion Barbare or Morabito Or Black
Leather: Puredistance M or Bel Ami
Oud: Mona di Orio Oud
Other wood: GPH I or CDG 2 Man...
DHI or LDDM, I suppose
One of my favorites as well
Agree with these. Also any of the Dior Hommes (the EDT, DHI, DHP), Dior Vetiver, Vetiver Extraordinaire, and New York
Agree with these. CDG 2 Man is perhaps my most complimented fragrance. Gucci Pour Homme (2003) and YSL M7 might fit the bill, but are sadly discontinued and therefore might be a bit too expensive.
These have already been discussed a lot, but I'm really enjoying Dior Homme Parfum and Anubis by Papillon.
Encre Noire is the best value in my opinion
So, I was in Soho and stopped in to the boutique to smell Cuiron. It was definitely not what I was expecting. I haven't smelled the original, so keep that in mind. It's very transparent and light...
Same here, woody being tied with incense
Answer could vary day by day but today I'll say vintage Antaeus and Invasion Barbare
Seems like you have a good collection. Maybe a vetiver? Vetiver Extraordinaire, Dior Vetiver, Sycamore, Encre Noire, Timbuktu, and Turtle Vetiver back are all good options.
I may have got bit overenthusiastic and bought a bottle of Cuiron on Friday morning. Sounds like the early reviews aren't great. Looking forward to hearing some more. Should have my bottle in a few...
Looking forward to hearing back from you guys about this
I was not expecting to like Dior Homme (and DHI/DHP) based on the "makeup" reviews. Same with New York because it was supposed to be powdery.
I was surprised I didn't enjoy these more: Sel de...
I'm on the "this line is very good" side and I've sampled them all. Vetiver, Cuir Cannage, Leather Oud, Patchouli, and Ambre Nuit are all very good and the rest are pretty good too. My favorite, and...
Hmmm, after my pets and girlfriend, I'd grab Invasion Barbare and Black Gemstone because they're among my favorites and they are expensive to replace
Perhaps this explains Ore in the poll. Really thought that would have more votes
So, this actually came to NYC from Australia in a week. I've had a couple of wearings so far and like it very much. It's subtle, almost like a strong skin scent. Need a few more to really evaluate...
I agree with Jubilation but also that you need to sample first. If you must blind buy, Jubilation also can be sold fairly easily making it safe
How about a fougere? Invasion Barbare, Or Black, or Rive Gauche depending on budget
Probably L'Humaniste or LDDM
Just got Lampblack yesterday -- really enjoy it so far
CDG 2 Man. I wore it exclusively for 10 years.
Thanks for the Anubis! Great experience as always. Looking forward to the Nio split!
My favorite, long-lasting vetivers are Dior, Turtle Vetiver Back, and Encre Noire. Sycomore, Red Vetyver, and Grey Vetiver all perform well too.
Vetiver Extraordinaire is great, but doesn't last...
Eau Sauvage Parfum
Thank you both for the info. Just ordered mine for $156
Black Gemstone +1
Only answering ones I have experience with and like a lot:
- Tom Ford Private Blend: Tuscan Leather
- Amouage: Jubilation XXV
- Frederic Malle: Vetiver Extraordinaire
- Profumum Roma:...
Puredistance M or Bel Ami because I think they're a bit similar. I know "M" is supposed to be unisex but I see it as very masculine
I don't have any experience with Creed really, but I'd be very surprised if they didn't tell you to keep it, or send you samples or a gift card or something. They should take care of you for your...
Very pleased with my Blackbird purchase. Thank you!
LDDM and Jubilation are both excellent. For the latter, try fragrancenet, which has authentic bottles in your price range.
Glad you had such a good experience here! Twisted Lily and Osswald are my favorites, both for the selection and customer service. Oh, and I second Russ & Daughters -- one of my favorites.
CDG 2 Man is very nice and the only fragrance I wore for about 10 years. Others I enjoy:
Bois d'Encens (every once in a while you'll see a 50ml refill bottle...
I might save some too and it really depends on what you like, but I'd buy around 10 top quality fragrances. Some examples:
Mona di Orio Oud
I respect it more than I like it. Definitely well made, and well blended, with good longevity but not for me.
Las Vegas Palazzo sells the "cheap" stuff and they're very friendly.
IC is nice, but in my opinion IB is a masterpiece
Tauer for me, but they're both good
For anyone making a trip to NYC, my two favorites are Osswald and Twisted Lily. Great selection of fragrances and great customer service; their staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate...
Hmmm. Keeping in mind the $200 limit and that your coworker is new to this and probably doesn't want anything too difficult, I came up with this:
L'Air du Desert Marocain
Encre Noire or Sycomore...
I'd also recommend:
Turtle Vetiver Back
I'm not much of a reviewer so this thread is mostly to start a dialogue about some newish fragrances and see what people think. Anyway, this will mostly be featuring fragrances from the past couple...
I think it's fine for the office and a great scent overall. I have two decants, one with good longevity and another about 4 hours -- no idea why. As for alternatives, it's hard to find something with...
Another for Avignon. Black Tourmaline too.
Dark Aoud and Aoud Musk are favorites of mine.
First of all, I wouldn't put yourself in a bad situation financially. But if you really want a new fragrance, I would follow the advice above and get a split of Aventus. Or there are a few less...
I just ordered Duro and Black Gemstone, otherwise I'll probably pare down a bit.
This is very good advice and I agree about MR.
Black Gemstone by Stephane Humbert Lucas
Another for the Dior Vetiver.
+1 for L'Humaniste
Wore Black Gemstone yesterday and was very impressed. Would definitely be ordering a bottle today if not for the price.
I have the 2014 version, and the refill (or whatever they call it) of previous version, but I haven't smelled the vintage one. As far as the refill and 2014 versions go, I think they're fantastic,...
Almost all are nice but Vetiver is my favorite. Leather Oud and Patchouli not far begind
Lots of good suggestions so far.
Rive Gauche PH - spring work
Grey Vetiver -summer work
Encre Noire - fall work
Heritage - winter work
Terre d'Hermes - summer night
I recommend Memoir as well
Neutral. I think it smells pretty good, but it is really, really not something I'd care to wear
In that case, either Vetiver Extraordinaire or Encre Noire would do the job well. Encre Noire is a lot cheaper.
Wonderwood also could work well.
All 4 of the ones mentioned so far are very nice
Just an FYI: I ordered one from Dior Palazzo last night. They have 3 more (not sure if that's it or if they'll get more at some point).
Yes, I should clarify, not trying to suggest they've reformulated -- I'm just curious to compare older and current XXV
Anyone know where I can get vintage Jubilation XXV? The reason I ask it that it's one of my 3 favorites, but I get somewhat poor longevity from it. After researching a bunch of threads, it seems...
Really interesting article -- thanks for posting
Will check these out; thank you for the suggestions!
I'm looking for a fragrance for my girlfriend. She really likes Bulgari Black and CDG 2 (silver bottle) but the lack of longevity on both really bothers her; she wants something that lasts forever....
I'd recommend getting samples of Jubilation (possibly my favorite fragrance), Memoir, Epic, and Opus VI. Interlude, Dia, and Reflection are nice too but not for everyone.
I had a similar experience.
