Completely the opposite for me :-)
To my nose there is a vast difference between 90s Egoiste and current stuff...
A 10/10 frag for me. Easily in my top 5 niche. Love it. Definitely FBW for me.
To all that said they they don't like it - try putting it on and 'living' with it for 5-10 hours...
All I know is that I've been wearing Egoiste since 1996. I have a bottle from 2005 and a vintage bottle from late 90s and to me there is a vast difference. The scent is the same, but the vintage...
Big difference between vintage Egoiste and the stuff they sell now...
To my nose BK and Le Male share 0 similarities.
Saying that BK smells exactly like Le Male is like saying that Aqua di Gio smells exactly the same as YSL M7.
Get the older one.
PS was reformulated (according to my nose). I had a sample back in the 90s. Bought a full bottle around 2003. Not the same. Still ok, but not the same. I'm sure the current stuff is even worse.
Next time ask her why would she want to smell like flowers.
LOL. Ok. If you want to be just like everyone else go for the mundane fresh frags.
Jeez man, don't be afraid to be different. I was rocking PS Cologne when I was 17 w/o any problems (just for a...
Around 85 bottles (95% designer, 5% niche). Around 60-70 decants of niche frags (5+ml). 100 samples.
My guess is that it was reformulated a while back. All I know is that in late 90s PE was a powerhouse. Now, not so much.
You will most likely get the same thing. Current PE is not what it once was. It's as simple as that.
I know both of these. I see no similarities whatsoever.
Interesting news. My bottle was purchased back in 2010. 12+ hours longevity.
I agree. As for preference, I prefer Avignon whereas the gf prefers Zagorsk.
I'm guessing PE longevity suffered from reformulations (much like A*Men, Azzaro Chrome, Egoiste) over the years. I came across PE back in 1997 (had an official sample). 1 spray of that lasted 12-14...
In any case thank you.
Where would I purchase this one? Good folks at Fragonard told me that it was discontinued.
I'm lucky enough to have a 75ml almost full bottle from 2006 I think. I don't wear it often but I like having it.
It doesn't smell like LeMale, but it does have a similar vibe.
My bottle from 2009 is the same. Longevity sucks. Nothing like my 1998 bottle.
All I know is that Coco Chanel was unbelievable in the 90s. What they sell now is kinda meh.
I have a feeling it was reformulated long before then. My juice in my bottle from 2000 would easily last 20+ hours... on 1 spray.
Nope, not dependant at all for me. I can wear ripped jeans and a t-shirt while wearing Amouage Jub XXV w/o a problem.
Or wear a suit along with a skanky Leather Oud. Whatever.
Perhaps you have a sample of Zagorsk which is in fact "too sharp, stale and cold"... but that's part of its allure.
Aventus doesn't do a thing for me much like the rest of Creed... i've been on here for about 2.5 years... but into fragrances for 15+ years.
It's a shame I came across this only today.
Agree. I'm the same way. My 1998 bottle of CW smells way better than GIT.
Most likely still fine. My bottle is from 1998 and it's okay.
I wear what I like. Was this way since I was 16.
I never understood that whole 'dust' floating inside vintage M7. My bottle was purchased in December 2003 and it doesn't have any dust particles.
Hmmm. My gf stole my bottle. I love it on her...

Regarding wearing LDDM during the summer. I frequently use it as an amber base for the summer months. Basically 3 sprays of...
Glad I'm not the only one with a similar reaction to Roadster.
Hmmm. I have about 150+ frags in my rotation and still feel that it's unbalanced... :-)))
My fave citrus is Heeley Oranges & Lemons. I've tried lots of niche offerings, but this one is my favorite.
I love this one but not on its own (perhaps a bit too bitter). I have a bottle which I routinely layer with other frags.
It goes beautifully with heavy amber frags such as (Ambre Russe and L'Air...
I'd go for Pure Vetiver.
LOL at not being able to make a decision yourself and caring about other people's opinions.
Agree with everything said.
You guys know what's sad? It's that now apparently Egoiste from 2008-2010 is considered vintage. I came across Egoiste back in 1996, it was the fragrance that started it all for me. 1st bottle lasted...
Heh. You'll change your views in a year or two.... You're just starting out...
Yup, the less ingredients the better the juice :-)
To my nose there is no leather in Ambre Russe. I know AR very well, it's one of best buys of 2012 for me.
2012 version is available at Andrews in Toronto. I'm guessing it's available in Montreal as well.
I tried it. Loved the first 2 hours. Almost bought a bottle. The drydown was dissapointing to me.
Gotta try this combo. I have a decant of Dark Aoud and a sample of Black Aoud.
From what I tried LADDM works well with any fresh, grassy Vetiver. Just make sure to limit LADDM to only 1 spray - anything more and you won't be able to smell anything else.
Doesn't seem to work...
Just try it and see what happens. I long stopped associating frags with gender. In large part thanks to this community.
I used it frequently in the summer but I layered it with vetiver centric frags.
For example 3-4 sprays of Chanel Sycomore or Guerlain Veriver Eau Glacee or even Mugler Cologne and 1 spray of...
I have enough to last me another 40 years.
I don't understand the comparison between Full Incense and Leather Oud. To me there are no similarities at all.
Girls yes. Women no.

This is up to the smellee not the smeller :-)

Hmmm. And to think, I've been doing this all wrong. I wear a fragrance to please MYSELF. Whoops.
I'm not even going to read all that BS.
It's available at the Bay in Toronto.
That accord put me off at first, but it dissappears within minutes on me...
I wanna know how Gold differs fom the regular One Man Show.
Take a look at Diptique Vetyverio. Easy to digest vetiver. For me it opened the flood gates to Sycomore, Guerlain Vetiver, Creed Original Vetiver and others, basically got me interested in the note. ...
To my nose they are very similar. 1697 lasts longer on my skin and has a boozy note which Havana Vanille does not. But yeah, for the first 1-2 hours 1697 can be mistaken for Havana Vanille.
All I know that my gf stole the following from me and is using them to great success:
JPG Le Male
JPG Fleur du Male
Andy Tauer #2
TF Arabian Wood
TF Tuscan Leather
Hmmm. Comfort scents for me are those that have been with me from the beginning of this journey.
Davidoff Cool Water
YSL Opium Pour Homme
Others as well.
Nah. You're fine I usually go for 4-5. Never had anyone say anything and I like weird frags i.e. not the designer crowd pleasers.
Hmmm. I threw out several bottles that way. They were good stuff too. Of course it was after the fact that I've dumped vintage formulations of A*Men, Allure Homme, Joop PH (all about 10 years old)...
I can live w/o Fahrenheit and TdH, but can't w/o Egoiste.
I have and used both. Nothing similar to me. at all.
I'm gonna try Lolita Lempicka au Masculine + Givenchy Pi this evening. Thanks for the idea.
They share like absolutely nothing to my nose. Don't forget that we're not talking about Allure Sport or Egoiste Platinum.
What was the fragrance that you tried?
Amouage Ciel Man
I 2nd Ciel Man. Unbelievable for summer. Very original (at least to my nose), haven't smelled anything else like it.
I've tried both, Vetiver Tonka and Sycamore. There is no comparison between the two. VT is sweet, Sycomore isn't.
For me personally as much as I wanted to like VT, I came to the conclusion that...
I used to love Le Male (never wore it regularly, but liked having it) but I can't do the current version. I got around by using Amouage Reflection Man and Cuba Gold for my Le Male fix.
Not sure. I didn't try Terrible enough to make a proper comparison.
All I know is the difference between current Le Male and old Le Male is that the current stuff (for me) goes directly into the...
Yes, it has. Don't know when, but I do know that my bottle from 1998 smelled much better than the stuff currently for sale.
Amouage Ciel Man
The only thing that I tried was Lolita Lempika au Masculin and then 30 min later a few sprays of Cool Water. Not too bad.
I don't see any similarities between NRfH and FA.
I agree with the above, to me Oud Immortel is a better version of Black XS, especially the first hour or two.
All I know is that the juice in my 10 year old bottle lasts a lot longer and smells far better than the stuff they sell in teh store (tried several times from a tester).
I just tried it. To me while nice it fully resembles Montale's Red Aoud, but milder and a tad less juvenile.
It's sad that people now view Chrome as crap. Back when I tried it (1997) it was actually really good. 3 sprays would easily last 10-14 hours during summer. It was fresh and had a nifty metallic...
To my nose - yes.
I've been in the game since 1996 :-)
I tried Chrome and Le Male back in the 90s when they just came out. My bottle of Chrome from 2000 easily lasts 10-14 hours. My bottle of Le Male from 1998 lasts 20-30 hours. Current Chrome (tried in...
I second Gai Mattiolo Uomo. It's amazing for summer. Haven't tried Sel Marin yet.
Amouage stuff is worth the price (to me).
I have both - Egoiste and Jaipur Homme EDP. I appreciate Jaipur, but find it unwearable most of the time for some reason while Egoiste has been a staple in my collection for the past 15 years.
My Jaipur Homme EDP is like this:
Bought about 1 year ago.
Does the current box differ from the previous version? Will try hunting down the older juice, have to know what to look for visually.
I guess around $7000 but thats over the last 15 years or so. We're all screwed in the head by most people's standards. :-)
I agree with this. I came into contact with Egoiste back in 1996. The juice in that bottle would easitly last 14-16 hours on me. The current stuff while still great (but watered down a bit) lasts...
Does it really matter? You're still gonna get some anyway.
All kidding aside, congrats! I'd go with Jub XXV.
Joop PH has (well used to have) an incredible drydown. Current version just has earthy patchouli. Nothing as complex as before.
Hmmm... Apologies... Wearing Incense Oud today... Yes, similar to Montale's Full Incense, but with more depth, oud and rose. More complex... So no... Montale FI is not exactly a replacement for...
Tried Incense Oud yesterday. Seems very much like Montale's Full Incense...
Tried this one out of a sample. Too much for me. Straight patch with nothing else (to my nose). Not wearable (once again to my nose).
Seriously for $30 or so it's a great buy if you're into gourmands.
Worth buying imo. Different enough from A*Men and LL. To me it's the most perfect rendition of burnt sugar. Dry down is similar to an extent to A*Men.
I came across Nightflight back in 1997 or 1998. Longevity was monster out of a sample that I received from the Bay, easilly on par with Joop PH. I bought a full bottle in some duty free in 2000. Same...
