Scored a 1.7 oz bottle of Krizia Moods for $25!
. . .now, off to Perfume Rehab. . .
I got the Jaipur EDP (100ml) and Caron's Parfum Sacre EDP (100ml) for $97.
Odor, I own Boucheron PH EDP and Jaipur EDT. I like both but the Jaipur is better. . .hands down.
Taking in all this sage advice, and considering that the Jaipur EDP is about $20 cheaper than...
I have a $100 gift card burning a hole in my pocket. . .I want to spend it on a frag I couldn't afford normally.
So, I narrowed The Choice down to Jaipur EDP or Eau Sauvage EDP.
Love them both....
I loved MR on first sniff (from a sample). . .but I can't afford a bottle.
I've had the experience you're describing with several frags: Caron 3rd Man, YSL Xeryus Rouge, Versace The Dreamer. ....
More this juice again today. . .and got more compliments! :cheesy:
I almost never get complimented on my frags.
Yesterday was different. . .very different. Got three compliments. . .all from women.
What was I wearing, you ask.
Molinard's Patchouli. ...
I was underwhelmed by TDH. My first thought was: So?
Of course, I think YSL PH, Yatagan, Ungaro III, and Giorgio BH are all better described as "skinscents."
+1 on YSL Opium.
Kouros does something weird on my skin. I can't describe it. Thank God I sampled it before buying.
I'm gonna sample VCA PH next. I hear lots of good things about it.
YSL pour homme. . .blast of lemons. . .then. . .oakmoss and patchouli! Great stuff! Also, I can't say enough good things about Caron's Third Man. It has everything a Powerhouse Fragrance Lover...
Just curious. . .what do you think of Rochas Moustache? Is it different enough from the YSL's to be FBW?
Just wanted to give a shout out/thumbs up to Overstock.com for their customer service. . .
I purchased a 100ml bottle of Versace l'homme from them. The sprayer was broken. It dribbled.
Well, I pulled the trigger and ordered YSL PH HC. It arrives Monday. I recently watched a Youtube review and the reviewer gave this frag an enthusiastic thumbs up, but he also warned that 99% of...
Thank you all for your rec's! I own Zino. And JHL was a staple in my wardrobe in the late 90's. Idole is definitely outside my budget. There's a note in the middle of EPH that I find fascinating....
Just today I gave my sample of Escada PH a full wearing.
GREAT stuff! Wow. I immediately went searching for a full bottle and discovered that it's selling for upwards of $100. Yikes. Way...
Hednic, so it's different enough from the others to warrant the money?
Thanks for replying. . .P.
A cry for help. . .
I've spent way too much time reading fragrance blogs lately and now I'm deeply, deeply confused.
I own YSL PH and love it. I also own Caron 3rd Man and a couple of other...
I stumbled upon Basenotes while searching for a half-remembered frag four of five years ago. I took it then and take it now as a luxury, a gift.
I always assume that "down time" means "things are...
Yeah. I've seen those prices. But I don't own a home to mortgage, so I'll just be comforted by fond memories.
I'll suggest one that doesn't seem to get much love among BN'er's. . .
Burberry Touch for Men. . .violet, pepper, light vanilla musk. Maybe a little mature for high school, but I can bet no one...
It's possible that I'm confusing the Good Times of the late 80's with VIP. . .but I distinctly remember reaching for this stuff when nothing else would do.
Ah, memories. . .well, the ones I can...
OK. Who do we have to threaten/bribe/kidnap/blackmail to get Giorgio Beverly Hills VIP back on the market?
I owned this Back In The Day and loved it. Loved it more than I loved his older...
Narciso Rodriguez for Him. Hands down. Oven cleaner. . .furniture polish stripper. . .
Sampled this stuff at Heathrow and couldn't wash it off before my flight. Suffered for 11 hrs. I can only...
Caron's The Third Man is my current favorite.
I'm pretty sure this is my Deserted Island frag. Sinus-clearing lavender-citrus at the top. Spicy rose in the middle. Powdery...
I know, I know. . .I'm messing with two BN'er legends here. Mea culpa.
I own The Dreamer and recently sampled BK. When I sniffed the BK on my skin, all I could think of was The Dreamer.
Rec'd a nice little blue box of samples yesterday from My Perfume Samples. . .
Ah, Pipsta. . .you gotta understand the Southerner/Nawlins' attitude toward adversity. When Disaster strikes, you put on your best duds, apply the perfect scent, and greet the sumbitch at the door...
A small challenge for the refined noses of Basenotes. . .
New Orleans awaits the arrival of Hurricane Isaac later this evening/tomorrow morning.
What fragrance should one wear to greet a...
Got 100ml Ferragamo pour homme for $20 and Oscar pour homme for $20 at Ross'.
I really like the Oscar. . .woody lemon pepper. Haven't tried the Ferragamo yet.
Got 3.4 oz Versace The Dreamer for $35 at T.J. Maxx yesterday (Thurs). They had five or six boxes in the women's section of the frag counter.
Also spotted several boxes of Salvatore Ferragamo...
It's so rare that folks want to buy frags I already own. . .just had to speak up!
Never sniffed PR XS. CK Euphoria is a waste of money. I gave my bottle (a T.J. Maxx blind buy) to my niece.
For years my dad would only wear stuff like Stetson, Chaps, etc. I gave him a bottle of Aramis JHL and now that's all he will wear. Gave my 13 y.o. niece a bottle of Miss Habanita. . .she loves it....
I got my first compliment in ages while wearing Uomo! I get light florals, musk; very, very smooth. Someone on BN described it as an "Italian playboy" scent. I lived in Rome for three...
My mom will only wear Coco. But she will only wear it once or twice a year. She says she doesn't need to smell "fancy" all the time!
Well, I do, Mom. . .so. . .
I just pulled the trigger on...
It really is! I got a compliment yesterday while wearing Guerlain Vetiver.
Touch is one my favs as well. It's one of a handful of frags I've re-purchased over the years.
Weirdest comment on a frag. . .
There's a 12 y.o. boy in my parish with Downs Syndrome. He often...
Uomo?'s musk and floral notes really shine for me. The best word I can think of to describe its effect is "smooth." There are no sharp edges to this juice.
Got my first fragrance compliment yesterday!
A 20-something woman came into my office and said, "Wow! Something smells good in here!"
Yeah, it was me.
What was I wearing? Moschino Uomo?...
I can't believe no one has mentioned Giorgio BH yet! I went through three large bottles of this stuff in the mid to late 80's as an undergrad/grad student. And this was when it went for $75 a pop....
Whoa! Devin picked up some love overnight. Looking at the notes, I'm probably gonna go with Devin.
I'm a little worried about those herbal tobacco notes here in sweaty Nawlins'.
I used to wear JHL all the time. It's the only frag my self-proclaimed Redneck Dad will wear. It's a great scent, but way too heavy for the heat/humidity of Nawlins'.
I don't have a "green...
OK. . .my wallet is jumping, and it's jumping toward another Aramis frag. . .
Don't like New West. So-so on Aramis. Like Tuscany. Have 900.
So, is it gonna be: Devin or Havana?
I have Zino and love it, and I really like Grey Flannel! Zino isn't my fav rose scent though. . .that prize goes to Rose d'Homme.
I'm assuming that my sample is from the latest version. I can't imagine this stuff being any stronger!
Just curious: what other frags out there pose a threat to the traditional notions of...
I was a bit worried about the Nawlins' humidity and Yatagan. But I spend most of my time indoors, so. . .Yatagan it is!
Sampled Caron's Yatagan. . .wow, wow, wow. In my experience (admittedly limited), Yatagan is truly unique. Just about every frag in my small collection has something in common with every other...
Expensive? Really? They seem to be with the market. I've ordered from ScentedMonkey and a few others and they all seem to charge about $3 for 1ml sample.
Am I missing something?
Just want to give a shout out to the ladies at Surrender to Chance. . .
The post office lost my first order from them, and they immediately replaced it.
My second order arrived promptly.
I have Giorgio BH and it disappears within a few hours. Back in the late 80's I couldn't wash the stuff out of my clothes!
I've tried the unscented lotion cure. . .it didn't help. My core body...
I'm growing disillusioned with this fragrance hobby. . .
Perhaps the largest disappointment: longevity. I own about 20 bottles and three dozen samples. . .none of them, even the so-called...
Thanks for the suggestions, BN'ers!
Now I'm thinking it was Black Soul Imperial and not Black Soul (?).
Oddly, the Black Orchid was great for the first hour and then it settled into a...
I read somewhere that Ted Lapidus Black Soul is a reasonable substitute for Tom Ford Black Orchid. . .
True, false, maybe. . .?
I've sampled Black Orchid and it is very, very nice. However, it...
Layering probably works best with largely single-note frags, or frags dominated by a single-note. I've discovered that Caron PH layers well with just about everything. So does Rose D'H.
Gerard, I'm not sure. Probably reformulated. I got it through Amazon, so I doubt it's vintage.
Andy, no doubt you are right. . .however, VdR is $145 and my combo is about $60. :-)
My Frankenfragrance isn't as heady/overwhelmingly floral as Portrait; however, it is still a very wearable Dirty Flower.
I have a sample of A.E. on its way! A fine lady of my acquaintance wears...
Another layering experiment:
Four squirts of Molinard Patchouli + Three squirts of Azzaro Acteur = very nice floral patchouli!
When your frag budget is as tiny as mine. . .you just gotta make...
Cacio, the lavender E.O. really boosts the lavender in the CPH. After just a few minutes, the LEO becomes minty, very herbal.
Give it a try!
At the risk of being severely castigated, or perhaps hunted down and hogged-tied. . .
Today, I bought a 2oz. bottle of lavender essential oil and layered it with several healthy squirts of Caron...
I was in Heathrow and decided to pop into the duty-free for a little sniffing. . .Narciso Rodriguez for Him looked interesting. . .(one squirt). . .it burns, IT BURNS!!!! I nearly bowled over an...
Yatagan, hmmmmmm? It's definitely on my radar. . .though I'll admit to being uber-cautious about it since so many talented BN noses curl at the mere mention of it. I'm not afraid of adventurous...
Formal: Pasha, Habit Rouge
Casual: Uomo?, 3rd Man
Business: G.'s Gentleman
Day: Zino, Rose Homme
Floral: Caron PH
Patchouli: Molinard Patch, G.'s Gentleman
I have 19 designer fragrances in rotation. Just blind bought Azzaro Acteur.
Formal. Check. Casual. Check. Business. Check. Day, night, early afternoon riposo. Check, check, and check.
Habit Rouge + Kiehl's Original Musk (2:1) = SOTD!
I know, heresy to mix HR with anything. . .but it smells really good.
Skip CK Euphoria. Weak melon. Meh.
My mom--a Southern Lady--declares that all my fragrances "smell like piss ants"! She only wears Coco.
My dad--a self-described redneck--will only wear JHL and thinks it's a little girly.
3rd Man + Zino Davidoff = beautiful citrus rose!
The Caron PH arrived yesterday. It is a beautiful scent!
Though I have to admit that the opening is a little strange. I have the same problem with the opening of 3rd Man. Maybe it's the...
Sophi, thanks for the suggestions, re: Caron's femme line. I am intrigued by Parfum Sacre. Rose, spice, incense. . .perfect. Many have said that it is not so overwhelmingly floral that a man...
@#$% Now I want to get Yatagan! You guys are a BIG problem for my meager budget! :-)
Burgundy, could you tell me why you like Yatagan? Is the pine too much?
I am enjoying Caron's Third Man so much that I just pulled the trigger on a bottle of CPH! If CPH is only half as good as 3rd Man, I'll be delighted.
Does my love for these "old man" fragrances...
I tried Ungaro III. Didn't like it. Way too. . .something for me. Not sure what it was. And I like 80's powerhouse frags. Giorgio is one of my favs.
I will check out the YR suggestion. I...
For Sound and the Fury think: corrupted, incestuous southern aristocracy (social prestige but no money); earth, heat, humidity, sweat; stream of consciousness/atemporal narrative; early 20th c....
Cacio, for Whitman I was thinking more in terms of "Scent'd Herbage of My Breast." He was something of a dandy in his times, though he was an odd sort of Slumming Dandy. I saw something recently...
Ericrico, Moods does sound like one I would like. Is it similar to Ungaro III?
I wore Tuscany back in the 80's. Great stuff. I remember it being dark, complex, woody. . .one of my favs! I wore JHL when it was a limited edition and pricey. My dad loves the stuff.
Indeed, Moschino's Uomo? I didn't much care for it at first, but. . .Wow. . .it has really grabbed me!
What do you think of Aramis 900?
3rd Man and Uomo? have become my top two Go To fragrances. Both stand up well in the Nawlins' heat and humidity. One of my parishioners--a 84 y.o. lady--complimented me this morning before Mass. ....
Being a fan of good literature and good smells, I'm wondering how many fragrances have literary allusions attached to them. By this, I mean, how many fragrances use allusions to literature or...
Ericrico, I have the newer Zino. I used to wear the older version. . .but, alas, no more.
I discovered today that 3rd Man also layers well with Rose de homme!
Ericrico, all I can tell ya is that 3rd Man + Zino = Wow! Two sprays 3rd Man to one of Zino on my arm. Just try it (he says in his best devil voice).
I'm no good at the whole note thing, but...
My bottle arrived. . .
First wearing was a challenge! Sinus-clearing spicy lime. Wow. Great middle and dry-down. Reminds me a bit of Jaipur and Opium though more restrained. Definitely a...
Thanks for the reviews and encouragement!
Nawlins' can be a difficult place to wear a good fragrance. It's hot and sticky most of the year and I tend to burn through even the heaviest scents even...
I pulled the trigger on a bottle of Caron's Third Man last night. . .
Hope I won't be disappointed. BN'ers seem to love it, so I'm trusting you guys!
Well, I liked the Jaipur so much yesterday, I wore it again today. I was rewarded with 80 degrees and sunshine most of the day! The Jaipur still worked.
Tomorrow: Habit Rouge. . .no...
While getting dressed this a.m., I took five minutes trying to decide which fragrance in my small collection to wear.
Why so long?
It was about 58 degrees and storming outside. . .I kept...
Giorgio BH from my newly acquired bottle! Instantly transported to 1986. . .
The last time I bought a bottle of Giorgio BH was in the fall of 1986. . .4oz for $85.
The old juice was a projection monster and you couldn't scrub the stuff off with Tide and a tire brush. I...
Thanks for the info and link, Gido. :-)
You guys are fantastic! Thanks so much for all this great info. . .
Any experiences with PlantLife essential oils? I have some of their scented soaps. . .very nice.
I need (yes, I wrote "need") a high quality patchouli E.O. that leans more to the floral, sweet, incense side rather than the dirt/urine side.
I'm a HUGE patchouli fan on a seriously restricted...
Damp, cloudy Nawlins' morning. . .Trefle Pur by Atelier. . .basil, orange blossoms, clover, musk, patchouli. . .Springtime in a bottle (or a sample vial in my case)!
Uh? ". . .the catharsis of self worship." What does that even mean??? I thought politicians had cornered the market on meaningless blather.
That aside, looks sample-worthy!
Anti-Catholic snark aside. . .I got a lot of negative comments when wearing Giorgio, the original formulation.
Philip (a Catholic priest)
Off topic (?). . .
I recently ordered a batch of 10 samples from ScentedMonkey. . .only four arrived. It took three emails to get a refund. Never again.
In stark contrast: I ordered two sets...
Is Super E Iso available to the public? I mean, w/o having to spend $135 for a desinger bottle?
Green Oakmoss Demi-absolute by Liz Zorn (Soivohle) from a sample. . .
I'm saving my money for the release of:
Allure Eau Fraîchissante Homme Sport Extreme Sensuelle Blanche Edition pour l'Été
It will only be available in a 500ml bottle. . .to accommodate the...
Encre Noire layered with Maroma's Tonka Vetiver. . .very nice!
I just glad to have some sort of inexpensive incense frag in my wardrobe. I have Encre Noir (my SOTD) but it's more wood than smoke.
Next month's BIG purchase will be Giorgio B.H. Wore it for...
