6 Month Bump! Updated :)
You guys are great, I'm excited to check these bad boys out. I will report back with which one ends up getting picked.
I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I want to have a nice bottle of fragrance for my guest bathroom (more so... visitors bathroom) that when people come by, they can spray up...
Not to take this away from you, I'm an optimist that it is authentic,
I was absolutely shocked when I was travelling in China last year and saw a knockoff of GPHI.
I have for a long time realized that my bottle from 2010 didn't smell like my bottles from pre 2008. Instead of hunting for the perfect one (and I'm sure coming across a few rotten bottles along the...
Thanks Andre, really interesting!
This is what I was thinking too, well priced to boot!
After owning both, I chose Ultimate, it has a spiciness to it that I really enjoy. Great longevity and silage just like Profumo.
Thats a positive comparison for sure, Vintage is an excellent fragrance.
Gentsscents is one of my favorites for sure.
Crazy, I am a big fan of the original Nikos Sculpture.
I personally was very disappointed with this, found it exceptionally synthetic (nose burning almost)... Sold it Locally.
CK Reveal is awesome, really unique fragrance with great performance and sillage. I was turned onto it after I smelled the female version on a lady after a hockey game. It didn't disappoint.
Thanks Razorjack, I will replace the intense EDT with the EDP on my wish list.
So frustrating, I recalled smelling a fragrance that was close in vibe but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.
I have tried most of the above suggested and they are not close in my...
I liked the original spicebomb, but the Extreme edition is something else to me. I love it. Just can't justify making the purchase right now. Its number 1 on my want list.
Maybe situationally similar, but not similar. MB Legend Intense wasn't one of my better purchases.
Its funny, I actually don't find Pure Malt to be nearly as a beast as people make it sound. It has a healthy longevity and sillage, but nothing to the levels of DHI, 24 Gold etc. I have a pretty old...
I know that lots of people get annoyed at Mugler about spinning out their pure line so far, but listing it out makes me realize how many neat releases they have had (at designer prices mind you).
I would also agree with Perry Ellis M, one of the few cheapies to remain in my collection and performs well.
Allure Homme Sport Extreme, Armani Code Ultimate could also be good viable options.
Making this list made me realize how good the line is! I really want to get my hands on Pure Malt Creation:
A*Men Pure Malt (2009.)
A*Men Pure Havane (2011.)
Bumping this up, anyone have experience with this, the notes sound good, Apple with Redwood?
Sad to hear this... Thanks for sharing your input!
I've heard of longevity/Sillage issues with all three of them.
This is true, I have the EDT. Considering getting the EDP as well though.
A few suggestions for you:
Joop Wild! Homme
Versace Man Eau Fraiche
In my oppinion though, Voyage is the best fragrance on your list for the mood you are looking for!
I have done back to back comparisons and find that Dsquared Potion is very close to GPH, but with a little more sweetness
I really like this idea! gonna give it a go next week. My collection has ballooned to about 60 bottles or so.
How I feel as well.
I find AB having a certain creaminess that Uomo doesn't have. Also, Lemon vs Kumquat. I was in China a few months ago and went to a Kumquat farm where I was able to pick them...
Quite nice! not remarkable, but quite good. Reminds me of Black XS!
I respectfully disagree, Dark Temptation is one of my favorites and is a dead ringer for Play Intense
Yes and no... I find that Armaf has a certain spiciness which Aventus does not have (my 15x01 batch is quite fruity)
Its worth the $30 it is though!
Sad to hear, I was so pumped for this fragrance. Wish they spent more time on the juice than the bottle
I got a bottle of Aventus lately expecting that my GF would at least comment on it, sure enough, hasn't said anything. But every time I wear Armaf Club de Nuit Intense, she pays me a compliment. I...
I respectfully disagree, having owned both and sold my newer formulation, I must say I enjoy the older one better. Although, the new one is definitely not a bad scent at all!
Give yourself more credit! :)
I hated it the first time I wore it, and then really started to love the dry down. I wore it recently and found it too synthetic on the top.
Thanks everyone for their feedback. Really appreciated.
I need to do some more testing, but leaning towards Spicebomb E, and I L NY for all.
Wondering if you guys could provide some guidance. I am looking to add one of these (well, who am I kidding, it will probably end up being all of these over a period of 5 years lol) to...
I recently went on holiday to Toronto and brought along with me one fragrance, Dior Sauvage. I didn't want to bring a whole bunch for different occasions and wanted to try being a one cologne guy for...
I would pass on Perry Ellis White, too powdery, I would just go with Cuba Gold if you want a cheapie that will satisfy that need.
Perry Ellis M is excellent, one of my favorites. MIP is a bit to...
I respectfully disagree, I find HiM quite classy as well. If there was ever a GPH II Intense, this would be it. I have done side by side comparisons and find the similarities to be quite amazing....
I'm going to suggest something different, Perry Ellis M would be a really good pick.
Not quite as bad as yours, but this is similar to most of my experiences with Fragrance sales staff. Whats the point in arguing sometimes.
Chanel Bleu de Chanel, I know this was dismissed as a generic crowd-pleaser, but man, it is good, good, good!
Is it vintage Play Intense? If so, definitely Play Intense.
I think its a great option, BDC is a fantastic fragrance.
I've got to this point, where the hobby wasn't really as rewarding, I decided to do the same, step away and come back to it.
I really like both but I found the intense to be lacking in projection and longevity, I thought scentwise the Intense was a bit more refined.
I'm impressed with both this and the original, really great scents. I think I prefer the Extreme though!
Spicebomb Extreme for me, I was very impressed with this fragrance.
BDC EDT is phenomenal fragrance. I'm consistently wowed by it.
Finally picked up a bottle of CDNIM when travelling down to the US. I was travelling for a few days so happened to pack a decant of a 10E01 batch of Aventus I had hanging around. I no longer liked...
Wow, what a bottle... I'm beyond excited.
Thanks Hednic, Will make note next time i'm in NYC
Buysblind; this is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! I'm going to scout out that Perry Ellis Vanilla! Appreciate you taking the time to...
I'm visiting the US from the great white north soon, and was wondering if you guys have seen any good bargains out there on our favorite fragrance sites. I already picked up two Hanae...
I change my recommendation to this, this would fit the bill.... outside of the fact that its not available at retail stores. You might have to introduce him to a discounter.
This is what I think of as well.
Azzaro Visit is another option.
I'm definitely excited - The current Le Male is a shell of its former self.
I don't really consider Dark Temptation to be woody, but if he liked it, a good option might be Play Intense by Givenchy.
I wouldn't really go that far, but I do think its totally overrated. I gave it quite a few wearings and found the florals to be totally overwhelming.
I'm venturing to the states in the next few weeks and as such do my fragrance pilgrimage from FragranceNet.
This fragrance has always been one that has interested me, but I'm having...
For sure, agreed!
Thanks for the info, very interesting!
Do you know anything about the said reformulation?
If its any consolation, even the original form didn't perform that well in my eyes. If you want a suitable alternative, I would consider Aqua Fahrenheit.
I'm not sure about BdC, hopefully not - I...
I really liked clean man, but also found the longevity to be appalling and decided against it.
Love that bottle!
I would go with Pure Tonka, what I consider to be an improved Rochas Man (which didn't project or last on me). It a tad expensive, but worth it.
Original formulation Play Intense is also a great...
So sad if that's the bottle. The bottle of MIP is the nicest I have ever seen. and MINY was even better.
I finally tried this out, it has been on my BB list for some time. Really did not like it - hard to explain but it smelled almost "rotten" something combined with Escada Magnetism.
I'm really tempted to try out this entire line, but cost is a bit too much to go blind buying. Impressive that they got reputable perfumers for all of them.
Funny enough, I did this way back in the day in my Jr.High School days when I was too poor to buy designer fragrances. From what I remember, it was about a 30% batting average. I am sure its better...
Love this stuff, just can't justify the price tag right now.
I have heard good things about Ferrari Neroli. Haven't tried it though!
Azzaro Visit, Nikos Sculpture.
For the price its pretty good, but I find it a touch to feminine to enjoy. I might still pick up a bottle though.
I've never had it before but this sounds exactly like Lanvin - Avante Garde territory.
I've dabbled in so many cheapies (~$25) throughout my fragrance journey. There are three that I wear frequently and are mainstays in my collection.
Mont Blanc - Individuel
Finally got a chance to demo it, quite nice, but not ground breaking or anything so far.
At first it definitely reminded me of a version of La Nuit, but then quickly settled to something that...
I really tried to like this one, but the Lemon note always put me off, I will revisit.
Hanae Mori HIM is also quite good.
Also Bentley Intense, I was disappointed with Prive.
A small pet peeve of mine - got into discussing Versace Man (2003), and someone commented that it had some grape vibes. I appreciate that everyone has a difference sense of scent, however, grape is a...
I think I'm alone on this one, but it actually reminds me lots of 2008 DHS. Great fragrance.
Here is a unique designer frag with this effect: Very Irresistible - Givenchy, starts of as a creamy, hazelnut coffee, transforms into Grapefruit Citrus!
Didn't even know this existed, I have the original Sport and its quite good!
It has this weird playdough vibe on my skin.
I'm gonna be the combo breaker, Nikos Sculpture is one of only a handful of 'cheapies' I have ever considered collection worthy. Better than plus plus (which I have had for a while), and less...
I found this to be very close to Perry Ellis 360 Red, even moreso than the original.
Your review was too long, mind giving a quick synopsis of your experience? :)
All Canadians, its now available at the Bay in store and online. Tested it today, I got a blast of New Haarlem from it, a distinct sweetness, almost syrupy/creamy. I think its very far from any other...
Okay, I think I remember now, CH Men Prive has a slight resemblance to Escada Magnetism... but probably not enough to satisfy you if you want the real deal. The price difference between the two is...
Same here, wasn't really a fan of either, but Bvlgari man in black would be the way to go, its also about half the price as you can get it from discounters.
This one has been discontinued and has been steadily going up in value.
Its a really unique fragrance, starts off as a Hazlenut Coffee and on the Mid/Base turns into a Grapefruit/Woods. Its like...
Personally for me, out of the 15 batches I have tested I think 15N01 was the best - the monsterous nuclear batch that everyone was talking about.
I quite like it, the longevity and sillage is very impressive. Also, for those who care, its a definite complement getter (on the level of a certain creed fragrance)
I really liked the vintage Yohji allot and would love to get a bottle one day if the prices became something more reasonable. I loved the rum note in it.
The reformulation is actually great too,...
Lanvin Avant Garde
The most would be $80 on a bottle of Pure Wood. I always try to swap or purchase used.
Although, in the near future I would love to buy a bottle of Aventus - its really the only niche that has...
I found the opening to be quite the opposite, a very harsh blast of synthetic. Very nice on the drydown though, and overall a nice fragrance.
