I can't wait to get wafts of Déclaration again, while I've recently added Santo Domingo by Oscar de la Renta to my wardrobe for this upcoming spring rotation.
I lurked this auction, but didn't place a bid. Totally curious about it nevertheless.
2 wearings each:
Tom Ford Black Orchid
Tom Ford Noir Parfum
Thierry Mugler A*Men
Yves Saint Laurent M7
Boucheron Jaïpur Homme
Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui

Indolic jasmine is quite scarce in the mens aisles. Some men who like Alien, do wear/suggest Alien Eau Extraordinaire, as it's a liitle lighter in an eau de cologne fashion with bergamot and tea...
I had a harder time coping with the mentholated aspect of the scent, than reconsidering its gender qualities. Although prominent rose on men is uncommon these days, it has been a norm in the past....
My Mistress by Stephen Lance
I agree with others about formulations. and Héritage has aged better. If you prefer cozy, then the Guerlain is your choice. If you want a classic late 70's - early 80's spiced carnation scent, then...
I agree with MC, it's a Wall Street Patchouli, and my favorite TF Private Blend.
This comparison is apt, but ESP further deviates from its original than Pour Monsieur does.
It's myrrhific, but just go easy on the trigger.
Cuir d'Ange by Hermes
I wanted to write a poem to rekindle the love duet between leather and the skin. Its softness and lightness, its tension and its caress. ~ Ellena
I like to keep my comments obscure for insiders only.
With more pronounced notes of rosemary, orange blossom & vetiver, and drying down to a soft sueded tonka; while being composed in the same light structure as the Homme line, then this might be quite...
Tom Ford Noir
Love this one sooo much that I keep it for special occasions.
I don't know where else to mention this, but Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu needs a picture. It's quickly climbing up my most worn, and I hate to just see the default image for such a great scent.
SCENT OF THE EVENING
For an oriental I find it quite discreet, and although its far from being a "beast mode" fragrance, the EDP diffuses an effervescent cloved benzoin cloud that receds to a skin scent by the 3rd hour.
This is going to be either great... or a total disaster!
I've always been impressed by this fragrance, but never have committed myself to it. This thread has been on the back of my mind over the past few weeks, enticing me to revisit this fond olfactive...
Noooo! Please don't go Jean-Claude!
Nope. Never tell your in-laws anything.
Great thread Mike, as I've never realised before this, how unique a lavender/leather combo really is. Six years might have been an arduous task to finding Lavande Ombree, but it's all about the...
I voted for Le troisième homme because it so classy & unique. Despite many fragrances with similar notes during that era, this one stand out of the lot and has been the most worn Caron from my...
King Kouros being somewhat fixed... please don't tease me.
Cheers guys! It's more of a gift than a buy to be honest, from a fellow fragrance aficionado who knows how much I love civet so much. I'm definately enjoying this vintage in all of its splendour, and...
Artisan Parfumeur Al Oudh
Dyptique Volutes Parfum
Azzaro pour Homme Elixir
Salvatore Ferragamo pour Homme
I dabble some vintage on pulse points, and spray twice on the chest with the current. Great combo!
Eau Sauvage hands down.
Great classy scent with impressive longevity during the warmer weather, very similar to vintage Armani Eau Pour Homme.
Would David Koresh wear a smokey batch of Aventus & Jim Jones something with a fruity Kool-Aid accord?
Awesome! A whole different concept from the original... I'm hyped.
YSL La Nuit de L'Homme
Rive Gauche pour Homme
JPG Le Male Terrible
Pour Un Homme de Caron
Gris Clair by Serge Lutens
Hermès Brin de Réglisse
Barely. The reviews for it are overrated when it comes to that aspect, possibly because most who have tried it are women? Think of the very end of the Angel dry down (patchouli/coffee accord), but...
A nice dry earthy tobacco leaf, including ever so slightly dirty spices & their...

SCENT OF THE EVENING
80's to early 90's.
While it's longevity (being a traditional cologne) leaves to be desired for daily use, Cologne du Parfumeur after a shower is quite refreshing.
Yeah (almost is the key word); I use Terre D'Hermès for spring, summer & fall, but not winter. It doesn't make it over the layers of clothing in cooler temperatures.
That's a shame, but as gtsb has mentioned, unsurprising given its' niche like qualities and penchant for myrrh.
That being said, a little more of the original in the opening top notes, sounds...
I would strike! Fragrant loving workers unite! But were that not an option, then I would take my smelly self & find a more accomodating employer.
Nice catch! But boy, would I have been gaga to have Tom give his take on King Kouros during his time at YSL, with it leaning a little more on a modern leather/patchouli that he does so well.
Acqua is a great summer alternative for lovers of the original & performs great in humidity. 32 is a vanilla bomb, which I loathe immensely.
I do seasonal roations, so here are a few that are versatile enough to use almost year 'round.
Bleu de Chanel
Bel Ami Vetiver
At least one per season ~ at most one per month.
"The ingredients used are all natural!", said with absolute conviction.
Two years ago (see BN join date) I started building my wardrobe. I expected to take my time building it up (a fragrance per season), but changes in regulations & rampant formulation tweakings obliged...
Owning the vintage & having plenty of experience of the current with multiple wearings; they perform differently in that originally the composition was smoother & more rounded out, while the current...
