blackened and jathanas, thanks!
I've missed this place.
It feels good to be back.
Allow me to reintroduce myself.
My name is TwoRoads and I am a fragaholic...
I have not thought about putting together a Top Fragrance list in several years.
These are just the...
Thanks for everyone's birthday wishes!
I broke out some vintage Giorgio for Men - I'm having a wonderful day!
The discontinuation of Giorgio for Men is what initially led me to Basenotes. I have discovered many wonderful and excellent fragrances but Giorgio is still my all-time favorite. Thank goodness it...
Balenciaga pour Homme gets my vote as well.
Four in a row - JHL by a landslide!
(Although, like noggs, I have not tried the new version.)
Leather is my favorite classification and I agree with both of your recommendations. 1776 Russian Leather by Elsha is also an excellent leather fragrance - still a bargain at $38 for an 8oz. bottle.
Kudos to you, jonny19.
For me, it is no contest. Czech & Speake No.88 all the way.
Giorgio for Men
Czech & Speake No.88
A lot of great suggestions, especially Domenico Caraceni pour Homme (aka 1913) and C&S No. 88. Let me toss in a sleeper, Bogart pour Homme. It always surprises me.
It is one of my favorite fragrances, I would be glad to accept your unappreciated bottles.
PM me for my address.
I haven't reevaluated the rankings of my favorite fragrances in quite a while (Results of my Top Five Week) but New York and Heritage are both still in my Top Ten. Bois du Portugal is safely in my...
Great list, especially C&S No.88, Giorgio for Men, Yatagan and Derby.
I have both but wouldn't choose either as the "essence of sex."
I give the nod to Body Kouros as there are just too many musk fragrances that I prefer over Musc Ravageur
This was my quest as well. I have become much more deliberate in the last year or so. I have only purchased three fragrances so far this year and don't have anything on my "can't live without"...
Almost forgot, it's Blenheim Bouquet and Racquets Formula that do it for me.
I don't know if they still do it but several years ago Penhaligon's had a free sample program. I sent them an email, never received a reply and kind of forgot about it. I was pleasantly surprised a...
Kingdom, because I don't own that one.
Vintage Tabarome but it is no longer available.
You put together a very nice list. I chose Giorgio for Men.
Don't forget Wellington and Marlborough. They are my favorite Geo. F. Trumper fragrances.
I take the 5th Amendment on the grounds that it may incriminate me...
I have both. I love both.
No, I wouldn't trade a full bottle of Domenico Caraceni pour Homme for a bottle of Black Aoud, even if it were 100% full.
Everyone's skin is different but I get the same longevity from the reissued Giorgio Beverly Hills as I do from my vintage bottles.
Savile has one "L" (don't mind me, it's always been a pet peeve :))
Great idea! I don't know why but your project has captured my interest. I'll be following this thread closely!
Maxim's pour Homme
Vintage Tabarome +5.
Not because it is expensive but because the fragrance perfectly evokes the image the OP describes.
Maxims pour Homme makes an excellent substitute for Vintage Tab.
I use Mitchum Unscented Power Gel Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant
Yatagan is my favorite Caron.
L'Anarchiste and then Pour un Homme follow closely behind.
Albeit a very good fragrance, 3rd Man takes last place in my collection of Carons.
While I love Acqua di Cuba and Nostalgia, Tabacco Toscano hits all the right notes for me.
Nice to see some old friends on this thread. :)
Let me add Kolnisch Juchten by Parfums Regence. As far as I know, it is only available at Jacqueline Parfumerie in San Francisco.
I agree but if I have to pick one it would be Eau D'orange Verte by Hermes
Nostalgia by Santa Maria Novella
It is the same fragrance - just packaged differently.
The roller ball is 0.23 oz. while the glass bottle you linked us to is 0.50 oz.
It should also be available in larger sizes (I have a...
Ummm...TwoRoads, of course!
I'll second Cuiron and Daim Blond for light leathers.
I like Czech & Speake as well. No.88 has a permanent place in my top five.
While not all feature ylang-ylang prominently, these are the fragrances in my wardrobe that utilize it:
Agua de Kananga (Kevin's suggestion +1)
Florida Water (Kevin's suggestion +1)
Any thing over that is excessive.
Wonderful prose. Thanks, Mark!
Sixty-five fragrances met in a series of one-on-one contests to determine the Basenotes champion for 2010. Search for threads with "BMM10" and you'll see what took place.
Thanks bluesoul, for all...
Kouros has a half-life similar to carbon-14, about 5,730 years.
Tiffany for Men.
Not a "complete and original chypre structure" but a classic chypre nonetheless.
Let me know what you think after you've tried it.
In Production - Giorgio for Men.
Discontinued - Vintage Tabarome.
A diatribe is a long-winded denunciation. It does not imply aggression, certainly not how I meant it.
No, I don't want you to disappear from the forums. In my mind, it is okay to describe your...
I prepared a reply to this diatribe but in the end i just reported it.
Third tier toilet?
23.19% of my fragrances are Dry Woods (Leather/Tobacco).
20.29% are Woody Oriental
19.57% are Aromatic (Fougere)
The balance is scattered amongst nine different fragrance families.
Top notes: Rose, Orange, Lemon
Middle notes: Lavender, Sandalwood, Cedar, Patchouli
Base notes: Musk, Myrrh, Amber
Bogart pour Homme is a great addition to this list. I forget how powerful BpH is and it blows me away every time I wear it.
Hi TT and all the other denizens here, it seems that I rarely get over to this forum anymore. I hope that you and yours are all doing well, both physically and spiritually.
For Floral day, I am...
For Sniiff 'n' Speak Floral day, I am wearing Agua de Kananga by Crusellas & Co.
AA Indian Pure Musk Ghazelle - Ajmal
Kolnisch Juchten - Parfums Regence
Joop! Homme - Joop!
Winter Star - Michael Storer
Vintage Tabarome - Creed
Whether or not you want a refund or an exchange, you brought this issue to our attention. The least you should do is contact TPC and give them a chance to rectify the situation and salvage their...
Catching up, I didn't post a SotD for Tuesday.
I wore the fragrance that should have won the 2010 Basenotes March Madness tournament:
L'Air du Desert Marocain
by Andy Tauer
Top notes: ...
I never wear something twice in a row but here we go:
My number two scent overall – simple, formidable, elegant.
Tobacco Leaves, Green Tea, Pepper, Ambergris
Scent twins with Stylin' :)
I am with you StylinLA, it's my SotD as well!
DustB is a good friend and one of the people I most respect on Basenotes but my experience with Vintage Tabarome could not be more different.
VT's sillage and longevity are enormous - anything...
Couldn't have said this better myself.
Took me a second to realize that this is a five year old thread.
Top notes: Lemon
Middle notes: Vetiver, Blond Tobacco
Base notes: Tobacco, Black Pepper, Nutmeg
I scent-twins with Mikey today!
No problem, I suspect you've had other things on your mind this weekend!
Yeah, the originating post says the thread started at 10:30pm EST yesterday.
I posted my comment at 10:46pm EST but it shows up as being posted an hour earlier - something's amiss in the ether.
Poll closed 15 minutes ago:
Chanel Egoiste 32
Tauer L'Air Du Desert Marocain 42
LDDM is in the finals.
Today's SotD is a mysterious oil simply labeled "Sandal Mysore."
Yesterday, I wore an oldie:
That's the problem with Ohio, you out-of-staters keep coming in and taking off with our best women. :)
Congratulations, bluesoul and exquisitely me!
I am very happy for both of you!
Cuiron Pour Homme
by Helmut Lang
Top notes: Mandarin, Bergamot
Middle notes: Prune, Wood accord
Base notes: Leather, Musk
Santa Fe by Aladdin Fragrances
Clubman by Pinaud
Clubman Special Reserve by Pinaud
1776 Russian Leather by Elsha
Top notes: Coriander, Pepper, Galbanum, Black Currant buds
Middle notes: Fig leaves, Coconut
Base notes: Fig wood, Styrax, White Cedar
The Ambre Sultan fans only have about twenty minutes to stage a comeback.
Where are you party animals?
We need you.
Domenico Caraceni Pour Homme
by Domenico Caraceni
After looking at a number of reviews and comments,
this is my best guess as to the note structure:
Top notes: Petit Grain,...
by M. Micallef
Top notes: Lemon, Lavender, Wormwood
Middle notes: Patchouli, Fir Balsam, Nutmeg
Base notes: Tree Moss, Amber, Crystalline Musk
It is past their bedtime.
Azzaro Pour Homme won in another squeaker, 41-40.
AA Indian Pure Musk Ghazelle by Ajmal
While Chergui is a wonderful scent it is not, imo, even in the same league as C&S No.88.
Ambre Cannelle by Creed
Gucci Envy For Men 39
Boucheron Jaipur Homme 42
Guerlain Habit Rouge 43
Chanel Egoiste 45
It is 11:15 EST and I think the polls have closed.
Richard James (EdT)
by Richard James, Savile Road
Top notes: bergamot, mandarin, ginger, green tea leaves, petitgrain, rosemary, basil
Middle notes: cardamom, coriander, tuberose, lily of the...
Today, it is one of my favorites:
Jean Marie Farina Extra Vieille
Eau de Cologne
by Roger & Gallet
Top notes: Bergamot oil, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Petitgrain, Rosemary
Thursday's SotD was:
Top notes: Aldehyde, Bergamot oil, Lavender, Lemongrass, Mandarin, Plum, Tarragon
Middle notes: Carnation, Cinnamon, Fir, Honey, Jasmin, Oilbanum,...
(but I voted anyway, Vintage Tabarome all the way!)
Lonestar Memories is a great guess.
I'll add Kolnisch Juchten.
Of course your posts are being seen. I wouldn't read meaning into the actions of others that isn't there.
This is a great thread. You are fortunate to have a friend who enjoys fragrances as much as you.
If he hasn't had any exposure to Parfums de Nicolaļ, I would start him off with her masterpiece,...
