Mare, by Beth Terry
Small list for friendly Basenoters worldwide:
Boucheron pour Homme EDP - 50ml 75%
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme - 75ml 80%
Lanvin Oud & Rose - 50ml 99%
Maxim's pour Homme - 50ml 70%
Duro or McQueen's Kingdom
Eau d'hadrien, Eau du sud
Eau du sud, I'm never dissappointed by this.
Sweet and deep: Tobacco Vanille
Sables by Annick Goutal may also suit you. Although I would say it has more "depth" than sweet and deep. Certainly top of the list for longevity.

Not exactly the same, but similar feel is Loewe Solo. Very good in its own right.
To me, Rum, cognac and vodka smell very different haha.
For spiced rum - Aramis Havana
Cognac - body kouros, maybe Zino
Vodka - never quite enjoyed the smell but Bulgari ph reminds me of...
A long time ago, I was looking for the perfect rose aswell. I find most of the popular ones are either peppered rose (rose poivre), rose with patchouli (voleur de roses, although the older version...
I thought all famous people wore Creed?
Columbus - Probably ambergris
Newton - Something heavy and dense, maybe Duro
Einstein - Far too sophisticated for commercial scent. Chalk...
You do 4 sprays of Tobacco Vanille? Are you trying to get in trouble? I do 2-3 never above 4.
A scent should be
1 for personal enjoyment
2 intimate encounters (as in within 2 metres)
Photography again. Although my cameras are cheap by modern standards, I have alot of them. Also, film prices add up very quickly.
Other than that, fine cuisine and exotic beverages.
Yes, and it has my name on it.
Leonard pour homme
Antaeus, Balenciaga ph, Havana. Hard to not get noticed.
Mare by Beth Terry. Although it doesn't have the fruity topnotes or the hint of leather in the background.
Caron is a must! Meanwhile, visit the Bistro Lipp nearby.
Chanel by the Galleries Lafayette is nice aswell with the whole Les Exclusifs collection. if that doesn't work, there is a large beauty...
There's not much going for Bleu, but strength doesn't strike me as a problem. Try Millesime Imperiale, they diverge quickly but the topnotes are comparable.
Yang is a staple in my wardrobe. Have gou tried the new Yang 2?
Annick Goutal Mandragore.
Maxim's for men, Alain Delon Iquitos. Plenty of evolution and uniqueness there. BTW I sincerely hope you don't get sucked into the "niche only" scene. A scent smells good for what it is. Structure...
They have Antaeus. Nothing left to prove.
Sometimes I scope out the mailman then wait behind the door.
Santos is gone in the first round. I have an on and off relation with Kouros, but Antaeus will always be around.
Maxim's for men. Beautiful for the fall/winter scene.
I hate the hype train! If I knew better, I would have bought a couple hundred samples, select a solid wardrobe, then delete my Basenotes account...
I'll second the kouros fraicheur. Very good stuff if you can find it.
Welcome to the boards. I think you will soon realize that most of us here are "explorers" of many different scents and that the idea of matching a fragrance to a certain type of person is not...
Beautiful set. Any way to connect names to pictures?
Fath pour l'homme
Forgive me, but the niche scene is more to me for the pompous or trend followers scene. Try some well established but classier house offering like:
Van Cleef & Arpels
Boucheron Pour Homme...
Haven't gone too deep into the middle-eastern perfumery but I have two bottles of Al Haramains. The al Khaleej is sweet and dense, a bit like tobacco vanille (no tobacco) and Mukhallat 2003 is your...
What is it with all these "US only" stuff??
Ack!!! I just swapped my bottle.
VC&A pour homme or Boucheron pour homme.
Normally I would grab something smoother or sweeter, but these two have a certain "depth" to them that's really amplified in winter.

Tomorrow I will make my first foray into urban exploration. Demolished buildings, dark tunnels etc. What would you wear in such a situation?
Mare by Beth Terry. Absolutely perfect! It's unisex.
I got it from my trusted source Francois. Considering his transaction history, this bottle would be impossible to trace haha.
Unfortunately all three are somewhat sweet (especially lapidus). For completely spicy/dirty, try Kingdom by Alexander McQueen.
Thanks for the invite. I'll be there.
Also, any specific dress code?
I want a box of classics for cheap:
YSL pour homme
Grey Flannel (I don't know what this smells like!!!)
I envision a gentlemans signature scent as a brisk citurs/chypre in the lines of:
Chanel pour monsieur
YSL pour homme
Annick goutal Eau d'Hadrien
They all smell similar with the...
I just got a bottle yesterday. Very good stuff! Longevity is respectable, actually one of the longest lasting in my wardrobe. Also with all due respect, i don't know what mature smells like but I see...
Vera Wang for men smells almost identical to me.
Acqua di Parma
Sables is my comfort scent. Not too hard to find. But for a more mainstream alternative; I reach for Habit Rouge.
Kouros sits on my desk.
Montale Attar. Everything else is rose patchouli, rose pepper etc. Perfumers seem to want to make a men's rose but are afraid that it might actually smell like roses.
Baldessarini used to be boss.
Mare by Beth Terry - Evening at the beach, gentle breeze, a hint of salt in the air. Absolutely beautiful.
Erolfa is nice too, but imo it smells too similar to the other millesimes to justify...
I call it the chastity belt. Can't removed it without scratching up the bottle.
IMO it's not an everyday scent. Lots of spices, rough around the edges, and a hint of rose. Aoud Lime is similar, but better composition (imo) and my favourite suggestion for Montale would be their...
This is what women want in the sheets nowadays:
Are you man enough?
Salvador dali and etros messe de minuit. Messe de minuit depends on your background though, for some it's "disturbing" things to do with priests, for other like me, its warm ripe oranges.
Get Kouros. The others may be an extension of what you already have. Take a risk, explore.
Jean Pascal pour homme.
+1 on the Zino.
Light floral, I've always liked Diorissimo.
Hmm very interesting. Does it have anything resembling pine and wormwood?
Chanel Pour Monsieur
2/3 upper chest.
On weekends I occassionally indulge myself with "testing" different scents. wrists, inner elbows, shoulders, chest, knees...Although I feel a little odd when I have to greet...
Go for VC&A Tsar instead, much more interesting imo.
Ack. Apparently Mr. Mihov has went on to photography exclusively. Such a shame...
How about you test drive the Ferrari, Ford and BMW then decide?
Get samples. Cheap!
Sorry for reviving this very old thread, but I still haven't sourced this yet. It's no longer on TPC or ausliebezumduft. Anyone?!?!
Also Narciso Rodriguez for men, slightly darker grey, more fluide, and probably more "youthful". But honestly, expand your horizons, age and "sophisticated taste" shouldn't be mutually exclusive.
Montale Greyland. Spot on 18% grey.
First of all, smoking is a bad habit and I do not condone this experiment. However after blowing smoke down my shirt, what used to be a very restrained (structured, not bland) Yatagan really...
Shouldn't matter much. Just try it.
+1 the most beautiful and engaging scent I ever put my nose to.
The womens' Annick Goutal bottles with nice ribbons. When i had the choice, i took the womens version of Eau du Sud :d
A definite yeah for me. If you want less cumin, more cardamon, and a hint of tea, also look into Yang.
I'm going so low that I might need a shovel:
It was my first "fragrance" and I remember walking to 3 different stores trying to find it. Might be a little shameful, but I found...
Worth getting Antaeus even if you have every other scent in the world. Aventus is nice, but Antaeus is a must.
Look into Les Nuits d'Hadrien.
VC&A, to me Santos smells like yeast.
Where did you get Le Canadien?
My Shave gear. Although I must admitt, the safety razor is getting 99% of my attention nowadays.
Oh and Axe Tsunami. Haha, I know, but believe it or not, that's what got me started in this hobby.
I occasionally dab on a vial of attar made by a former Basenotes member. If I remember correctly: Cambodian oud, rose, sandalwood, geranium and orange peel oil along with a few other ingredients I...
The one at Place Vendome?
Annick Goutal Sables - Maple Syrup
I was in Paris and I bought nothing...completely forgot about this hobby for two years :(
I use Pento Creme, supposedly the French equivalent of Brylcream. Smells much better :)
Very enjoyable, but to me its just a sweeter and maybe smoother version of Yang by Jacques Fath (minus the tea).
Around here; I smell Old Spice. Even ADG is a refreshing change every now and then.
Well, Mr/Ms. James certainly has good taste.
Must de Cartier
