1. Patou Pour Homme...
Thanks, that is nice to know. :D
Just found this explanation from Grain de Musc:
The name, which means “Fairy Tale” in Czech, is taken from a chamber composition for cello and piano by Leoš...
I've been wearing the parfum a couple of times these past few days and really enjoy it.
On skin, I get a vanillic spicy-boozy tobacco-benzoin concoction with a woody/peppery veil. It is at the...
I've seen your setup in the Post a Picture thread too- it's great!
It's hot all year long here in Thailand, so it works well to keep them away from the heat when I'm out and the room...
I hope you guys don't mind me sharing some photos of my latest unboxing. :D
When I arrived home, I was greeted by a huge box......
This is a winner. Wearing this today and it's so shockingly good as I didn't expect much at all.
This is far superior to Sel Marin. I currently have a decant of both, but will absolutely get a...
After finding Basenotes, the only bottle I finished and had to repurchase was Dior's Bois d'Argent.
If it was before Basenotes, it'd be L'eau Par Kenzo PH. Finished 3 full bottles back in high...
I am a big fan of the original 3 scents released for the Dior Homme brand under Hedi Slimane's creative direction back in 2004. (Bois d'Argent, Eau Noire, and Cologne Blanche)
Dior has since used...
Just ordered a new lot of samples:
S-Perfume - 1499
S-Perfume - Musk S
S-Perfume - Kamakura
S-Perfume - Himiko
S-Perfume - S-ex (to find out whether the relaunch is reformulated, will post my...
Yes, and as an Asian, I also stereotypically take photos of fine looking dishes and share them on Instagram.
Ok, going to order that in my next lot of samples from Aus Liebe Zum Duft. :D
I eventually get rid of scents that I no longer like as well. (or at least try to)
It's frustrating to own...
Parfumerie Generale Felanilla: saffron, iris, vanilla, woody banana (better than it sounds)
Huitieme Art Myrrhiad: myrrh, vanilla, black tea.. also by Pierre Guillaume
A close tie between By Kilian and Mona di Orio, though they are OK- I am indifferent towards them.
Bond No. 9, on the other hand, gets a big thumbs down from me.
Happy birthday in advance!
Cuir Beluga would be an interesting choice because I think it's different from all the fragrance in your current collection. The heliotrope-y almond vanilla has a nice...
Purchased this pair shortly before the Amouage counter here in Bangkok are closing:
It's a shame really, I think they would get more exposure having their shop at Paragon. :(
Also, the original post is (finally) up-to-date. :D
Great to hear that you found a solution. :D
It's a bit different here in Thailand where temperatures are almost always 30+ degrees celcius. I ended up storing my fragrances in a wine cellar unit...
I'm looking for the following fragrances:
Lubin Idole EDT
Cartier's L'Heure Fougueuse
IUNX all scents, but particularly looking for Splash Forte and L'eau Argentine
Either full or partial...
Recently, Puredistance's M got me a couple of negative comments, which makes me really sad. :(
I asked a close friend why and she said it was "too powdery and smells like something my dad would...
I owned bottles of both at one point, but eventually sold off Wazamba, which I thought had too much apple-esque fruitiness in it.
On the other hand, I find Fille en Aiguilles to be more of a...
I find it much more natural smelling than Poivre Samarcande, but I'd guess there should be some ISO E Super in it. I don't get much of an "Aura of ISO E Super" around me that I get when wearing...
Felt like an eternity since I last made a big purchase.
Here's what I got: :D
Hello Poivre Samarcande.
We meet again!
L'homme Infini is actually one of the BEST pepper-centric scents around IMO. Far better, richer, and more complex than JCE's skeletal Poivre...
My favorite among the three is Galaad, which to me is a tea-like scent with honeyed spices and balms with a leathery texture. Cardamom and rosemary are very present. There is also a hint of pine,...
Just ordered it in my latest lot of samples.
Now for the hardest part - waiting...
MDCI Invasion Barbare
and from your list:
It's good - I like it. :D
Good sillage and longevity like Parfum d'Empire's releases too.
I get the designer "deja poo" too. (The feeling that you've smelled this crap before)
However, the quality is good, longevity and projection positive, and it also dries down to a good place....
The only one I ended up adding to my collection was Borneo 1834. :D
Quite nice actually. :D
L'Humaniste is one of the best "fresh" scents around. Big thumbs up. :D
1270 is also worth trying since it's quite different. Caravelle Epicee is alright. 1697 is not my cup of tea. And the rest...
Was deciding between this and Aleksandr... but will probably eventually get both in the end. :D
IMO, the Arquistes are solid 'modern' interpretations of classic themes that aren't ground-breaking...
It's good! I went through quite a lot before I swapped my bottle away.
Dry/sweet cedar, hay, and tobacco with a slightly sharp green/grassy undertone and a rounded ambery drydown -- actually haven't...
Long-delayed... Three of my fave MPGs.:thumbup::thumbup:
...And a blind buy since it was so ridiculously...
A*Men Pure Noir Absolu Intense EDP Extremee
Notes: Indonesian patchouli, black truffles, italian bergamot, molten caramel, oud smoke, safraleine, birch tar, pistachio gelato, civet, ambraram,...
Looking forward to trying these two!
Will be sure to add 'em to my next lot of samples. <3
Nice purchases everyone...
I wish Basenotes had a "Like" button a la Facebook.
Just in from Slumberhouse :D
P.S. One Jeke is the EDP, the other is the perfume oil.
Just kidding. :)
I think it's alright for daily wear and isn't a "special occasion" frag at all.
The drydown is quite office friendly for a "medicinal oud" fragrance.
I am going to get a bottle of Anima Dulcis and Aleksandr as soon as a shop that ships worldwide stocks it.
L'Etrog is a fairly good sleeper as well.
Hutieme Art Myrrhiad (myrrh-licorice-vanille-black tea)
Mona di Orio Vanille
Atelier Vanille Insensee
L'artisan Vanille Absolument
L'occitane Eau des Baux
Splash Forte and most of the L'eau's (EDTs) have better longevity than L'Ether (EDP), which doesn't entirely disappear on me but becomes a muted skin scent.
I like Sento, Splash Forte, Blanche,...
I really enjoy the funky first two hours.
I'd say it's something like allspice with a birch tar-ey anisic smokiness with oregano-like spices. Makes it feel like a cross between a day at the...
Well, all I can say is keep on sampling.
I'd echo all the previous comments that say it's a really "hit and miss."
I recently purchased 20 samples (from ALZD) with ALL of it being misses.
So has anyone tried it yet ?
If someone robbed my wardrobe, I would get these first:
MDCI Invasion Barbare
Cartier IV L'Heure Fougueuse
Arquiste Anima Dulcis / Xerjoff Verona 010
It was supposed to be L'eau Mage. :(
However, they instead shipped me a wrong bottle of 34 boulevard saint germain. (which is actually also pretty nice)
ALZD's customer service was very helpful...
I really enjoy Pulp. Head-banging rotting very ripe fruity hell. Nothing quite like it out there.
I feel that almost all of the entire line's scents has a sharp chemical/synthetic note...
In no particular order: :D
Cartier IV L'Heure Fougueuse
Arquiste Anima Dulcis
MDCI Chypre Palatin
The Lutens... :)
1. Use the $110 to get a month's worth of samples. (30 or so)
2. Force yourself to wear one scent per day till the end of the month.
3. Buy one bottle of the scent you enjoyed the most....
A good introduction to niche:
MDCI Invasion Barbare
Serge Lutens Chergui
Histoires de Parfums Petroleum
Amouage Homage OR Tribute
Lubin Idole EDP
Tauer L'air du Desert...
Of all the Montale "ouds" I've sampled... Dark Aoud's opening is the closest in smelling to "real" unadulterated oud oil.
As for Moon Aoud, think of it as a tweaked version of Black Aoud --...
Panache deserves more press. It is amazing and 100% FBW.
It's complex and also smells as expensive as (or even more than) Xerjoff Modoc and Vetiver Pour Elle IMO. I'm definitely getting a bottle on...
I personally prefer RM over NH.
I find it to be a smoother wear that's more floral and aromatic with less sweetness.
It also feels less 'espresso frappucino' and more mocha latte, which may be a...
Great collections everyone.
Nothing epic here though. My cramped shelf currently houses a mix of bottles, boxes, decants, and samples. It's actually quite messy too- a lot are on top of...
Starting the year with releases from 2011...
Parfum d'Empire's Azemour Les Orangers
Pierre Guillaume's Dzhari for...
Really happy with ALZD's generously sized samples.
(Luckyscent sample vial on the right for comparison)
This is so unexpectedly good that I am going to resurrect this thread. :D
It's a "spicy gourmand" that revolves around sweet dark chocolate & iris, frankincense, and a slightly spicy/woody fruit...
Apparently, Pierre Guillaume only made Dzhari and Cendres de The, which happen to be the two that I think are best in the line. :) Overall, I felt the line was pretty "meh" especially when compared...
Here's what I plan on adding to my wardrobe early this year:
Oriscent Kyara Koutan
Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers
Dior Bois d'Argent (either the 250ml or 450ml)
Vero Onda extrait (15ml...
L'Instant Pour Homme Extreme, Dior Homme Intense, Le Male, Rochas Man
My last purchase of the year: Xerjoff Verona 010... bottle 96/101. :D
Rochas Man doesn't last as long as New Haarlem, but it's much more civilized, less blunt, and comfortable to wear.
I owned both at one point and preferred Rochas Man, but I can see why some may...
Own it and enjoy it. It's one of the most wearable ELDO releases.
The saffrony leather smells comes from the aromachemical Safraleine, which I am a big fan of. :D
From the Givaudan link:
Great list.
The ones in bold are some of my personal favorites.
P is for Parure by Guerlain
Rather than get one single Creed, I'd build / expand the wardrobe with a couple of scents.
I'd get these:
Gucci Pour Homme II
Chanel Allure Homme Sport / Blanche
T is for Tom of Finland by ELDO
Here are my favorites:
Dior Bois d'Argent
Honeyed iris, myrrh, incense, blond woods, and one of the quietest patchoulis around.
A personal favorite of mine... it's one of the very few scents I...
Thanks for the review.
This looks like a must-try.
The quirkiness sounds almost CDG!
Anyone getting anything?
I'm about to get myself some Vikt and Ore.
Maybe some Rume.
The SL reformulations are a very real thing. He even implied it himself in a recent interview:
Link to interview: http://www.fragrantica.com/news/Serge-Lutens-Interview-Answers--2728.html
Caramel all the way.
Less plasticky than Gaultier2.
This is actually an "infusion" of their Benzoin parfum.
I'd imagine it would be more popular with Basenoters and MWBTFPOM if it were called...
Got mislead by the thread title... I was going to come in here to "rank" Jo Malone at 1/10. :(
I prefer TV over MR.
I prefer vanilla-tobacco over vanilla-cinnamon-cloves.
For $160 or so, and for variety's sake, pick two of any below:
Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan (find discounted at $8X)
Parfum d'Empire Ambre Russe 50ml ($75 retail)
Parfum d'Empire Azemour 50ml ($75...
I think there is a huge possibility that there is no real "Pierre Montale" at all.
The person who's playing the role of Pierre Montale may have a real name like Michel André Thomas.
It does smell like Jeux de Peau.
I think I get what Dred is trying to say: Me on the left, Bond on the right.
For me it's more of me sitting on the left, Bond on the right across the room standing on a table shouting out wild...
E is for Encens et Lavande by Serge Lutens
Invasion Barbare because I can't think of a similar scent that I think is better.
On the other hand, I enjoy Borneo 1834 more than Coromandel.
The commercials for Axe's Dark Temptation actually popped up into my head as I was clicking in here.
Parfumerie Generale Musc Maori = Milk Chocolate
Montale Red Aoud = Chillied...
Good bye November, see you again next year.
Hello December! Where have you been gone all year?
I think we all spent A LOT this past November.
Revisited after 3 years:
Serge Lutens: Iris Silver Mist, Borneo 1834, Bois de Violette/Arabie
Parfumerie Generale: Cuir d'Iris, L'ombre Fauve, Felanilla/Aomassai
IUNX: L'Ether, Splash Forte,...
I was actually thinking exactly that... but didn't dare ask. :p
EDIT: That was close to my first-time experience with civet paste actually...
These just in.. :D (all from fellow Basenoters)
Pardon the pretentious photos:
N°3 CUIR AMBRE
PG Cuir d'Iris
Prada Cuir d'Ambre
