Don't forget the sewer water!
Thanks! I loved Valentino V when I sampled it, but there's no way I'm paying what they're asking for it now. I hear Daarej is similar.
Thank you! I'm so impressed by Eau de Lacoste Blanc, I...
I'm hearing lots of good things about Equipage Geranium. If I were to buy any Hermes at the moment, I think I'd go with that.
I've always been tempted to buy this. What do you think about it?
Not a lot, in my opinion. But I like the 2009 Summer Edition and L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme.
I think it was called, "Perfumes of Paris," or something with Paris in the title.
Unfortunately, it's not there anymore! Two years later I went back, and visiting that shop was high on my list...
The first time I ever smelled Encre Noire was in a perfume shop in Washington D.C., the day after Thanksgiving (so today's kind of like the anniversary, I guess). At that point in time I had maybe...
Anything after FIVE you're likely to get some strange looks.
This isn't the order of my preference either. I'd probably put Musc Ravageur at number 1 or 2. But it doesn't always go over well...
Guerlain Homme L'Eau
Eau de Lacoste White--a soft blend of citrus notes and tropical florals, clean and interesting ($30--40)
Dior Homme Cologne--a super clean and crisp blend of grapefruit, bergamot, and neroli ...
Bvlgari Man in Black
D&G The One
I seem to remember him doing the sale in March. Is that right?
DSquared Ocean Wet Wood
In no way is this the BEST aquatic, but for 'overcast weather,' it's perfect. It's like an overcast aquatic.
Weird. I completely disagree with this. I thought the opening in the original was amazing, mainly because of it's sparkling, aqueous luminescence. I LOVED the opening. That's why I bought a bottle...
That's an awesome deal. I bought a brand new tester for $99 a couple years ago, and I thought that that was a great deal. You're getting the whole package for $99? Forget about it--you can't go...
Winter's on its way. I know a lot of you start looking into the gourmand side of fragrances...
You get a bonus or something? ;)
Yeah, what the hell is that? Is that supposed to Givenchy Pi? LOL!
Blueberry London? ;)
I wish I knew that 2 months ago, I could have funded Basenotes for another decade.
That's great news though...
I'll be sure to stop here before I stop there from now on. Maybe you should...
It's better than any place that I have ordered from yet.
I just wore it today. This one wears really nicely. It manages to stay fresh throughout without compromising the leather accord. It's easy to wear around others and indoors--really a perfect daily...
It's a great all-year type of fragrance. It's especially good indoors during the winter. It's not a heavy fragrance, but it isn't exactly light either. There are a lot of fresh notes and nice...
Good call! I love Lacoste Blanc and just discovered it a couple of months ago. It's so nice, and has a beautiful tropical floral/fruity smell.
I want to try the yellow one next.
Not just you, "Tropical" is the first word that pops into my mind when I smell The One.
+1 D&G The One
Vetiver Fatal and Frank No. 2
+1 Plum Japonais
I understand what you're saying about applying more or less depending on a fragrance's strength, but this line of thinking isn't revolutionary or anything. Isn't this just what people mean when...
A Taste of Heaven
It smells nothing like Fahrenheit or Kiton in my opinion, and is an excellent scent, even more so when you take the price into account.
Go for it.
I'm sorry to hear it's so light for you. I don't find it light at all. While the projection is about average I smell everything very clearly and don't have to try to smell it....
Good to hear, Ivory! I think it's actually a more interesting scent than Missions, which I also own. I really love the way the rum works with the vanilla in Perry Ellis--I find it a lot boozier than...
Actually, the trendy thing around here now is to dislike Encre Noire, so you're right along the Basenotes' cutting edge! ;)
YES regarding the performance of Reveal.
I wore 5 or 6 sprays today and knew I had on way too much. I had a crazy scent cloud following me around and honestly, 12 hours later, I can still smell...
Almost Transparent Blue
Versace Pour Homme (I'm sure you've tried this though)
L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme (green and coniferous but somehow blue as well...very...
I'm curious to see what you think of Black Vanilla.
I'd also like to hear your opinion on the Vetiver as I'm considering getting a bottle if it's good.
So based on this thread it looks like a bunch of you ordered a bottle.
Has anyone gotten it yet?
What do you think?
Glad you like "Pure Woody" though it was my least favorite of the bunch. I'll have to come back to it. For some reason I thought it smelled just like Nautica Voyage minus the florals.
Good to see you back--I was wondering what happened to you.
Anyway, to answer your question:
Other than those I've been on more of a designer kick, I think Icon...
Thanks for the update with your impressions. I think you're right about the earthiness. Uomo feels smoother, TdH has an earthier vetiver in the base. Subtle differences, but this is where they seem...
Dior Homme Cologne
Armani Code Sport Athlete
Lalique Hommage a L'Homme
I think I'm going to hold off on this one since I've been on a spree and need time to digest some of my newer stuff. I also have a feeling this is going to lean a little feminine and "fancy" for my...
Not sure whether you want fresh and fruity or sweet. Your La Nuit reference kind of threw me off.
Reveal Men by Calvin Klein is all three. It's fresh, it's got a fruity agave nectar note and it...
Same division, different ballpark.
Dark, amber rich, booze, winter, night, sensuous...but they don't smell the same.
Not to my knowledge. It's just marketed as unisex as far as I know.
3 for 3....not bad!
Does Energetic Aromatic remind you at all of the original L'Eau d'Issey by Issey Miyake?
There ya go!
I'd like to hear what you think about it once you get it.
Hey, make sure to post your impressions in this thread when you get the chance.
Hope you like it!
Great to hear, hednic...Thanks for updating the thread!
I totally get where you're coming from. I read about this, checked out everything I could, and while it sounded great I still thought, "Yeah, okay...it's Perry Ellis. Don't get your hopes up." ...
That's crazy. It projects strongly and lasts more than 12 hours on me. And I've never heard people say otherwise. I hope it wasn't reformulated.
People wouldn't think twice if this was released by some niche brand on Luckyscent at $150 a bottle. I'm not saying those are all good fragrances, but it reminds me of some of that stuff.
Yeah, that's definitely worth it. I did the same. You'll be impressed by what this brings for $47.
Haha.. You've been on a roll!
I'm looking forward to hearing your take on it.
$10 bid that didn't win. I read a few more reviews and realized it wasn't going to work for me.
And yes, a mildly crazed buying spree that will probably stop with this latest pickup.
You'll love it. I was actually going to send you a PM about it, because I know it's right in your wheelhouse. Blind buy safe for sure.
But really you can't even compare this to Reveal. They're...
You can remain skeptical all you want...:p
It's good stuff. And nothing like Reveal Men. I love Reveal Men but I always knew it wasn't going to fly on Basenotes. But this is one that Basenotes...
I've never smelled Cuir Beluga, but it definitely has some similarities to SDV. It's a very boozy, dark vanilla. But it's not spicy like SDV, and the vanilla is not as voluptuous. It's probably...
Black Vanilla Absolute
It may have just knocked my beloved Reveal Men off its pedestal (don't worry, I still love you, Reveal...)
But man....Perry Ellis.
You will be surprised,...
Voyage is pretty good. The synthetic apple is saved by a nice lotus/mimosa combination in the heart. All in all, it works out well.
I was curious about this one, mainly because I thought the...
I like L'Homme Ideal Cologne at first, but there's something about it that annoys me lately. I was thinking about adding it to the list, but I haven't enjoyed it the last couple of times I've worn...
Hey, would you mind clarifying what you mean by "snobbish vibe?" I generally get a snobbish vibe from certain white musks and white florals. Is it the cooling component that's creating that? Does...
Rose but I like it in Potion by DSquared
It adds a pretty dimension to the woods and sort of paints them with light pastel hues without coming to the forefront. But if you took the rose away the...
These metal purse atomizers are excellent and come in a variety of colors/patterns. I've used them in the past and really like them. Pick up some funnels to decant your bottle into the atomizer, or...
Eau Sauvage Parfum
I'm still in the sampling phase of Infinite Spicy. As hednic mentioned, the pepper lasts forever, so if you're a fan of peppery fragrances, this is a must try. It's also interesting how other spices...
Hednic, have you had a chance to try the VIP Collection? What do you think?
I will. If it's good I'll probably pick up the vetiver edition as well.
EDITING this list after receiving Black Vanilla Absolute by Perry Ellis. Put it right at the top of the list.
CK Reveal Men
Prada Luna Rossa Sport
Something tells me this is going to be very good...
It didn't work for me when I tried it several years ago. It felt so opulent and dandified to me. But my tastes have changed a lot. I'd be really curious to try this one again.
Nothing wrong with that!
You couldn't have picked a better time of year to buy them either.
Good to know. Thanks. I won't give this one a second thought.
I had been thinking that this might be like a good sports/gym fragrance. There aren't a lot of sports fragrances you can actually...
Apparently this fragrance increases your oxygen intake, boosts your mood, and even "lubricates your joints." :rolleyesold:
I doubt it.
But I like House of Matriarch. They make...
Lalique Hommage a L'Homme
I smelled this very briefly on a post it note...
Did anybody get like a brighter Eau Sauvage Parfum thing from Sunshine Men? It came off like a powdery citrus myrrh in the brief moment I smelled...
The performance is good. It sits closer to the skin than TdH, but it doesn't feel weak. And the longevity seemed to be in the 6 to 8 range with good projection for about 3 or 4 hours.
Really interesting but ultimately too animalic, skanky and heavy for my taste.
I can't wear stuff like this, though I appreciate it.
It's the best!
Got my bottle in today. It's good!
I just saved $50 because I no longer have to buy a backup of Terre d'Hermes.
Honestly David, other than Red Vetyver by Montale, this is the closest replica...
Addictive Oriental, part of the new Mercedes Benz VIP collection.
I've always worn the EDT and there's not a thing about it that I'd want to change.
So my vote is for the EDT.
This, followed by Nasomatto Pardon.
Icon by Dunhill
Wow. $17. Do you mind telling me where you got it?
What kind of sweet? Sweet floral? Sweet fruity? Cotton candy? Etc.
Thanks for your reply, I'm trying to get as good an idea of this one as...
No, they only hired from Fermenich. All of the perfumers work for Fermenich.
Ahh, for some reason the stuff you pay full retail for in a store and in person always seems to smell just a little better anyway. Not sure why that it is, though I'm sure it's 100% psychological.
Everything I've read about this makes it seem we're really missing out over here...
"niche quality" (yeah I know....but you know what it means)
"the perfect marriage of L'Artisan Parfumeur...
I'd move toward the camphor/eucalyptus scents, something like Esprit du Tigre or Piper Nigrum might scratch the itch. I can't recall anything that smelled just like tea tree oil.
This is interesting because Dark Horse smells almost as if it was created by somebody who was very familiar with Micallef's Gaiac, but always wanted to change certain things about it or create a...
That was a great article. Thank you! Interesting comments about the industry as well.
Infinite Spicy is the one I'm saving for last. I sampled it briefly, and my first impression was that it has...
Or Eau Duelle
There are a ton of threads on this. If you do a search you can find a lot of helpful information. No snark there, the search function should be really helpful for...
It's great. A crisp almost chilly aromatic scent of Vetiver conifers and juniper.
I'd own a bottle but for some reason it gives me a headache.
