Both are quite nice, I've always found Tonka Imperiale to be in the same vein though from the range, except superior and more complex.
Any idea on the price of this one mate?
Another one for Carner- Cuirs
Slowly going through the wardrobe now "filtering" as to what the current new girlfriend likes. So far it's mostly dislikes!
Winners so far:
1) New Haarlem
2) Rose 31
3) Green Irish Tweed
Quite like it, longevity isn't stellar, but its quality is apparent. Big fan of the peppery clean musk.
It's a Creed, what do you expect? :O)
Fragrances which contain 100% all natural ingredients such as the ones by Creed, generally have poor longevity.
When I'm wearing Aventus:
Something like Lumiere Noire PH, Narcisco Rodriguez for him EDP Intense, Hotel Costes 1,, Memoir Man.
Can't stand this one either, has that dreaded flimsy iris body, which declines to what's akin to chap stick within more or less minutes. Flaccid comes to mind and this is suppose to be a "niche...
Compliment factor: Egoiste
Christopher Sheldrake: Coromandel, Muscs Koublai Khan, Ambre Sultan, Sycomore (w/Jacques Polge).
Jean-Paul Guerlain: Habit Rouge, Derby
Francis Kurkdjian: Absolue pour le soir, Lumiere Noire PH,...
It's OK, but it's like a cheap knock off of Sycomore.
Apparently a favourite of David Bowie.
Deceptively strong opening, but it seems to wind down quite quickly and sit rather flat on the skin for me too.
These days, the only raw's I generally wear are APC petit standards, with the 2% spandex or Dior 19cm's. Great and flattering fit.
Back in the day I used to be quite into the whole raw/break in...
I tried the oil version of Rose 31 recently, when I bought a bottle of the EDP. I don't see what the fuss is really, it smelled practically the same after 5 minutes, a little richer and oilier as to...
How does it stack up next to Song d'un bois d'ete?
Pathetique & L'homme de Coeur.
Dia or Beloved.
Pretty much anything, but especially rich and heavy complex scents which have a "push-pull" effect.
Was it actually any good, besides the gimmicky name?
Another which you may enjoy is Olivier Durbano- Black Tourmaline Extrait. It has that very peppery woodiness.
Try Mamluk by Xerjoff, the oud light oud facets makes it suitable for what you're aiming for.
What is this, if you don't mind me asking?
Aoud Cuir d'Arabie by a mile.
No.88 & Puredistance M.
The complete wet shave soap, oil and EDT set of Czech & Speake No.88 which has a prominent sandalwood base/note. Or Chanel- Bois des Illes Parfum.
Starting to feel the same way, probably which will deter me in the end from going FB.
Since the old London thread was lost in the Huddler abyss, I thought I'd start a new one. So it's been over a year now, what's the final verdict on this one?
Due to it being a London exclusive I'm...
I think he's merely making the point that they're both unwarranted stereotypes.
Cuir Ottoman and Cuiron.
I generally don't layer, with the exception of a few slathers of Amouage- Sandal Attar behind the ears, when wearing a sandalwood prominent fragrance, or a fragrance which contains sandalwood in a...
I own Oud Wood, but seldom reach for it, Tobacco Oud I've been sampling a lot lately, its definitely a richer more satisfying scent in my opinion.
Why wear Richwood when you can wear Coromandel.
Because GIT smells good, whereas PE is shit?
Surprisingly things like Puredistance M, Invasion Barbare, Xerjoff Homme I seldom wear, as I prefer saving them for the right occasion.
1. Leather: Derby/Puredistance M/Knize Ten
2. Oud: Leather Oud/Aoud Cuir d'Arabie/Gao
3. Incense: Bois d'Encens/Sahara Noir
4. Tobacco: Tabac Aurea
5. Fresh / Citrus / Aquatic: Green Irish...
A decant of a Reflectio Man, or you may want to try APOM PH by MFK.
Have you tried Bogue- Maai? Another which I think would work very well on a woman is MFK- Lumiere Noire Pour Homme.
Because the ones you listed aren't panty droppers yo!
I've finished bottles in the past, pre Basenotes days:
Chanel- Allure Homme EDT (several bottles)
JPG- Le Malle (several bottles)
Dolce & Gabbana- Pour Homme
Joop! (several bottles)
Musc Ravaguer by a long shot.
Tried this one over the weekend for the first time, I was actually quite impressed. Thinking of pulling the trigger on a bottle, rather uninspired, but very affable in that it carries what I like...
I'm currently homeless, what have you got on offer?
Armani Prive- Bois d'Encens.
Versatility shouldn't even come into the equation in this case, it should come straight down to overall quality of execution. Jubilation XXV is by FAR the superior fragrance. If you want something...
The fragrance is still in production, it just needs to be sourced directly from the flagship store in Oman.
Bump. Sample list up-dated.
Green Irish Tweed
Green Irish Tweed by a country mile.
This thread, everything which is wrong with the current Basenotes *sigh*.
My opinion as always is the opposite of yours. To me the opening is the best part, the evolution is where TV fails as it comes apart at the seams.
Need to sample this one. Is it and EDT or EDP? What's the longevity like?
Personally I would just stick to one or the other, but would lean to NDN.
Nobody suggested Amouage- Memoir man?
No, because I'm a fragrance snob/elitist. Therefore by default if somebody dislikes my fragrance I simply intimate "you just don't get it".
Amber, Leather & Incense for the most part (with Oud).
Both made by Kurkdjian and both utilize is clean white Egyptian musk concept.
Alternatively I'm sure you've tried the EDP Intense and Musc for him EDP of NR Pour homme?
You "collect" what YOU like and enjoy, not because it's a "Basenotes darling". With that said, a few bottles which I enjoy having in my collection.5
Invasion Barbare with the resin bust and 17,5ml...
My holy grail, once I find it.
Whilst far from my favourite from the line, I personally think it's a very solid fragrance and versatile to boot, can be worn all year round and in most places.
If you're light on the trigger I...
Up-dated my SWAP list, up-dated my SAMPLE list and up-dated my WANT list.
Still have the BNIB sealed DIor Homme Parfum up for grabs. Somebody jump on it!
Yup, it's carried in the pharmacy next door to Jovoy on the Place Vendome.
That's because the French have good taste :). Creed isn't even carried in Jovoy, it's carried in the pharmacy next door.
One of my favorites and I can't say I've ever gotten that association, or had it highlighted. Clean, slightly spiced musk which riffs on his prior pieces for Narcisco Rodriguez.
The florals are too...
First things which come to mind:
ELDO- Rien Intense
Tom Ford- Black Orchid EDP
Dior- Poison EDP
Thierry Mugler- A-men
Montale- Black Aoud
Memoir Man, whilst I own and enjoy Epic Man, Memoir is considerably more affable, wearable and versatile.
Smells delicious and mysterious.
First thing which came to mind was Olivier Durbano- Black Tourmaline, both in Extrait & EDP formulations. It describes what you're looking for to a tee.
A more refined classier alternative would be...
I agree with the others, you may find Cuir Ottoman more to your liking, as it riffs more on a clean suede, rather than heavy rectified birch tar.
Another two "clean" leathers you may enjoy are...
Lumiere Noire PH by MFK.
Absolutely, it's a very charming quality to have, having a refined taste for the finer things in life. That doesn't make you an obsessive compulsive hoarder (unless you're Hednic :) )
I can not answer this question as it would seriously compromise my masculinity.
The "window" on the front and back is clear, the rest of the bottle is frosted.
Is anybody else anosmic to this one? Or is it possible that my nose is just burnt out?
I bought a bottle of the EDP of this recently, I don't get anything bombastic during the opening, just a...
Since you're on a budget:
Boucheron- Jaipur Homme EDP
If you can stretch slightly higher:
Chanel- Egosite (Not Platinum)
Hermes- Terre d'Hermes Parfum
Vintage King Kouros or something like Azzaro Pour homme (again vintage).
I wouldn't worry, they were probably just being induced into the first stages of heightened sexual arousal.
Own both, think Musc Ravageur is the far superior fragrance. Back to Black, whilst marginally potent in its own right, always seems "water colored" and "out of focus" to me, almost as if it could...
Anybody? Would somebody in Paris mind calling? I'd do it myself, but I'm overseas at the moment.
Another good one.
Musky? Yes (although nowhere near the vintage), Dirty? Not at all (in my opinion).
You may enjoy the following:
Black Tourmaline EDP or Extrait
Sensei Extrait or EDP
Mazzolari- Lui. or if you want something even more modern and unisex Chanel-Coromandel.
Fall - Sycomore, as the leaves fall. Warm, rich, crisp with an elegant cool sheen.
Alternatives: No.88, Puredistance M, Derby.
Winter - Bois d'Encens, a cold Siberian orthodox church in...
Both perfectly suited to males, there's not much between them in my opinion on the "unisex-gender bender" scale.
Czech & Speake No.88 & Cuba hardly get mention these days. Vintage Tabarome is another, then again it's withheld (ahem "vaulted").
Hotel Costes- Costes is another excellent woody-peppered incense...
