I sent one yesterday that was not received.
Mitsouko is my vote. It's tasteful, not overly sweet and a true classic. Rive Gauche is one of my favorites but the current formulation is a disappointment.
A partial bottle of vintage Chanel no 19.
lucky you. I love that fragrance!
Thanks for the info, Cacio. I may wear some of the old on one wrist when I go next to the mall to compare. But just the small price increase alone makes me happy that I found an old bottle.
It always happens to me with the aroma chemical linalool. I "taste" it in my dishwasher detergent when I fill the little cup. I can now taste it in 7UP. I'm not a soda person so no great tragedy, but...
Yes, the sales clerk that I spoke to said, "Estee Lauder said that it has not been changed." That did not give me much confidence. It is such a gorgeous fragrance. I may go back and buy a back up.
Has Azuree been reformulated? I really hope not. I just found an old bottle from a local store. Just goes to prove the theory- if you like something, don't wait. Just buy it.
Estee Lauder Azurre. I love it but have been putting it off. I just noticed that they have changed the bottle. Fearing a reformulation, I found an older style bottle locally. Whew.
I may try tjis. I got a sample of Kyoto and even 4 dabs wasn't enough to really experience it. Perhaps I should just pour the whole vial over myself...
I still can't figure out- what is MFK?
Congrats! learn a lot about fragrance on basenotes. I also read blogs and reviews. Unfortunately, there is only one shop near me that carries anything of interest.
I agree. Age and any other descriptor you could name is limiting. Just experiment. Try things and make up your own mind.
Fascinating how many fragrance collectors also collect watches.
I collect mid century furniture, Japanese indigo fabric, and yarn- my other hobby is knitting.
The LaLocle is a beautiful watch! I work in a jewelry store and we have a few. One day I will pull the trigger on a Rolex Cellini.
I'm thrilled when I smell someone wearing fragrance. Especially , men. It shows that they care about themselves, and others! And they like to talk about what they are wearing.
My skin is dry too and I get very little longevity, even when I moisturize. Wearing a perfume or extrait helps.Even when I wear EDT, I still tend to only wear two sprays. Any more gives me a...
Roja Dove Diaghliev and Lutens Iris Silver Mist.
Just tried Diagliev today and briefly considered selling my entire collection for a single bottle of it. It's astonishing.
American sportswear had become a fashion force in the world. Halston epitomized the clean, effortless chic of the American woman.
So thank you. And a big thanks to the people who do splits!
Yes, excellent thread. I have also learned so much from all of you. It's wonderful to see such generosity of knowledge and to share a love of fragrances.
Yes! Plus Sel de Vetiver.
YES! Have not tried the scents in the poll, but have tried and love Maai. It's amazing.
ELDO Rien is one that's been a recent revelation. A great winter incense.
Tried MAAI for the first time last night. Mind blowing. Went to this link to read Turin's review of MAAI. Dead link. Is Luca Turin really gone from Style Arabia?
Wasn't someone doing a split of Onda, Vero Profumo? I just tried it today. OMG! Must. Have. It.

Darn. I think Palm Beach was doing it, and I was too late and missed the...
Today, Tauer's Incense Rose. Now for a cup of tea.
Vintage Christian Dior Diorling. Omg
But no matter what vintage, it's brilliant.
I am curious also. I don't have the extrait, but an older EDT certainly smells more lush and rich than the current formula. I have a 90 ' s bottle that was well preserved. And while I don't know...
This sounds wonderful. Is there text also, or just photos? I would love to hear what you think after you have spent some time with it....
Wow! You must have been very good this year!
My family doesn't "get" my obsession. So aside from my split, I won a vintage bottle of Chanel No. 19.
"Dated" is a great term to use. Thanks, SS. I find the use of "old lady" and "old man" extremely offensive.
Did anyone have a lovely scent waiting for them under the tree? I think that Santa doesn't know that I have a fragrance obsession, so I got a lovely split of Serge Luten's Chene for myself. It is...
I have never tried Cormandel. Orientals are not my favorite. But I love Sycomore. It's a great, complex vetiver. But Cuir de Russie and 31 Rue Cambon are rapidly becoming winter favorites. I don't...
B is for Balance by Lancome.
I lived those big shouldered 80's in New York City. What a great time. Norma Kamali! Donna Karan! Wearing them with sneakers on the way home from work, not so great. Poison, Opium and the like always...
Hi, and welcome ! I would recommend L'Artisan Timbuktu for it's incense and vetiver, and the incomparable Guerlain Derby for it's combination of citrus and smoky wood. In fact, I am going to go put...
Y is for Yvresse, YSL
PalmBeach is offering splits of Lutens Sarrasins on his Splits thread.
ps. Also, what about Bogue Profumo? Seems to be super niche. It would be great to find a young, up and coming house, also....
I would love to see a store carry Frederick Malle, Parfum di Nicolai and Miller Harris. And a "frequent flyer" program is always a winner for me. It works to establish loyalty to a store.
No is for Nuit de Noel by Caron
I wear it every day. It makes me feel complete as I go out to face the day. When I get home, I usually try a sample or a scent that isn't office friendly.
My absolute favorite is now Azuree. I love Cabochard also. Just tried Amouage Gold Woman and was terribly disappointed. Wimpy.
M is for Mr. Hunt ' s Holiday, CD I Hate Perfume.
My first was a can of YSL, Rive Gauche on ebay. I bought it as a nostalgia piece, as it was the first frag that I loved. It led me to back to being obsessed with scent again.
+ Narcisco Rodriquez for her!
K is for Kobe, Xerjoff
I have not been good. A split came through and I bought a fragrance that I could not say no to. I am not going to count the gift cologne I purchased for my brother in law.
I also believe that one should wear whatever one likes. That being said, I find myself leaning toward more opulent fragrance now that it's freezing out. A warm leather feels very cozy these days. ...
That sounds incredible. Do you think that they will ever release it to the public?
Timbuktu is one of my all time favorites, personally. But tell us how you really feel, lol.
Chanel no. 5 also gives me a headache, as does Poison and Shalimar. I really avoid them all.
This one sounds very intriguing.
Palm Beach, you are a prince. Thank you so much!
Eau Savage, at least the vintage mini that I have, is incredible. I love it.
Thanks. Now I REALLY want them. I can see an obsession forming. I did find ISSM in the bell jar at Barneys. No way I can drop that much. If I can convince someone to do a split, that would be good.
So, I've been intrigued by Serge Lutens lately and want to try some of his scents. But I don't like sweet fragrance at all. I have decided on Chene or Silver Iris Mist. But I can't find them anywhere...
You can get quite a few wears from a sample while you are deciding whether it is bottle worthy.
I am always surprised by this, as I like "men's" as well as "women's" fragrance. Although, I still won't wear Aventus in public:undecided:.
I agree. I really appreciate that they are willing to do this. I would never be able to purchase many of these fragrances by the bottle. Thank you Remik and PalmBeach. et al.
PLEASE do run some splits for female fragrances. I like some unisex and male frags- Remik is a prince- but I would love some feminine splits too.
I was considering it but I haven't had 500 posts...
Anyone for Lutens Iris Silver Mist?
And whenever you can, list or photograph the batch code. I am always leary unless I can see it. I also look for things like a list of ingredients or the lack of one if it is vintage. And you would...
What a great idea. I've signed up for one split, but other than that, I'm in.
Thanks for posting these. I had never read them before. They are good. And I will continue to look at yours, fortheloveoffragrance!
What a treat! He sounds lovely.
Vicks Vapo Rub.
31 Rue Cambon would be awesome.
Kumquat, do you know when they stopped making these? I have one and am looking for a refill. I would prefer vintage, so if they stopped making it in the 90's, I will look for the refill on ebay and...
Thanks for the link. Can't wait for Maai.
+1 Chanel No. 19! And what about Parfum de Nicolai Le Temp un Fete?
I agree that the hunt for one's Holy Grail scent is the fun of it.
I think that I have found my Leather Holy Grail. Sampled Azuree yesterday. It's just right for me. Not that that will stop me...
Arabie by Serge Lutens sounds like something that you may like. The only question is whether it may be too much in the heat.
Pm'd you for a share of Mito, pls.
Sent PM to PB. Thanks for the heads up.
Diana Vreeland, Absolutely Vital
Dear Rose, Sympathy for the Sun
Vero Profumo, Mito
any would be fun.....
I work in a jewelry store and this is a common problem for customers. I have to work on watches that are impregnated with fragrances that I hate. We have a customer that reeks of White Diamonds....
Thanks very much. I'm going to try it this weekend.
I know. It wasn't in the budget for me at that time. When I finally went to pull the trigger, poof, gone. But I will keep my eyes open for the next one! Thanks, Remik.
That's basically my method. ..
Why would they dump these at TJ Maxx? Does this mean reformulation ahead? And I am going to run over to TJ Maxx tomorrow. Just in case....
As offensive as I found the thread, I do think that he was very young, and perhaps that English was not his first language. I wonder if he thought "panty dropper" was an accepted colloquialism. In...
Another Chanel Cuir de Russie would be great. Wasn't in the budget for the last one....
I have never found an amber that doesn't give me a headache.
Hi, I am a total newbie, so please excuse me if this has been discussed before. I could not find anything pertinent. I like to make my own body butters from shea, argan oil and olive oils. I have...
Fascinating! And what an interesting way to experience scent! Thank you for the link.
Do you choose based on your mood? The weather? What you are doing that day? Or do you have a rotation? It was so easy when I just had one signature scent. Now, it takes me a long time to choose....
Least: sweet or gourmand
Most: mossy chypre or woods
I personally like the thrill of the auction but some probably find 'buy it now' easier.
Darn. If you relist, let us know.
I'm curious, as I frequently buy on ebay. Why were they flagged as counterfeit?
"A prefer answer form ladies up to 35 or so (no offense)" Offense taken
"panties dropper" sorry, anonymous. No help for you.
I was so intrigued by the Meerschaum description and a blog article about her that I immediately ordered a sample of Meerschaum as well as a sample of Green Oakmoss!
Meerschaum sounds fantastic! I put it on my to test list. Thanks.
In a perfect world, I would always have a bottle of original reformulation Rive Gauche. It was the first fragrance I ever bought, with my JC Penney employee discount! I am hording one precious can of...
You could also try to find a split on the Splits Board. That was the only way I could get my hands on Guerlain Derby.
