Kouros (2003 pre-Gucci formulation) by Yves Saint Laurent
None of them grabbed me enough to purchase especially that their high price point but Oud was probably my favourite. It's a sort of stripped down A*men in my opinion. Satin Mood was the worst, it was...
Just buy Comme des Garcons 2 Man. It's nearly identical to GPH.
Green Jeans by Versace
Extreme Polo Sport by Ralph Lauren
I'm pretty sure Tauer reformulated his L'air du Desert Marocain when he switched from using the 100ml bottle to those cheap square glass 50ml bottles. If anyone can remember?
It lost its sort of...
Yes, it's pretty generic but it's actually not that bad. I'd categorize it as a "fresh fougere." Oddly enough it reminds me of FK's Masculin Pluriel and just from reading this thread, it seems like...
Found two bottles lurking on the back shelf of a perfume shop in town and asked the owner to spray some on a card for me. I've always heard great things about Polo Sport Extreme so I was curious. It...
I'm a huge fan of the Versace Jeans fragrances. I own and wear: Black, Baby Blue, and Blue. I know they tend to lean towards unisex and some women even wear Blue Jeans.
I managed to find a few...
The ones I own, wear, and love: Versus Uomo (1991), Black Jeans, and Baby Blue Jeans.
I also love Metal Jeans (but prices for this now are insane so I wouldn't own), Blue Jeans (not love enough...
Eau Sauvage EdT Splash-On (vintage 1987 formulation) by Christain Dior
Found the smallest amount of vintage juice left in a 50ml splash-on bottle at a thrift...
Saw Bang Bang on discount shelves here now. Looks like it suffered the same faith as Bang? $19. Might pick it up blind later this week.
Two discountinued designer scents
CK Crave 40ml (25-30% full) - $15 USD
Emporio Armani Night He 100ml (25-30% full) - $20 USD
No boxes. $7.50 USD to ship.
Versace Blue Jeans 75ml ($19)
Versace The Dreamer 50ml ($19)
Azzaro Pour Homme 100ml tester ($15-25)
Cartier Declaration 100ml tester ($35-40)
Cartier Declaration d'un Soir 100ml tester ($35-40)...
Off-topic but can anyone shed some light on the discontinuation of some of the men's Versace scents?
From my understanding: Eros, Eau Fraiche, Pour Homme, and Oud Noir are the only ones you can...
I honestly really wouldn't overthink it. MFK has a really good sample program. 4 x 2ml sprays for less than $20 shipped. And it's hard to say what you'll like before even sniffing them.
They're all very contemporary, modern, and minimalist. I liked Sel Marin (obviously) but wasn't crazy about it at that price point. Way too many great summer scents to wear. Phonecia was also a good...
Avignon by CdG.
I wore it to a Polish art gallery opening and after hugging a women she said I smelt good. Not the most conventionally great smelling scent so I was surprised.
Back in '03 when I first started wearing scents, it was uncommon to wear more than 5 or 6 sprays of an EdT without overdoing it.
Though in the last few years (i think mostly because of...
What's the verdict on the discontinuation of Zino now? 3 years after this thread started it seems to still be available for sale.
The most niche I've ever found was Creed and a bottle of Eau d'Italie but even that was $80 ... not $8 as I'd hoped.
I spotted at Winners (the TJ Maxx brand in Canada) recently:
Tom Ford Black Orchid EdP: but it wasn't a whole lot cheaper - $130 yikes!
Lots of Azzaro Pour Homme flankers including the 2013...
In the 90's they were doing a lot of avant-grade and daring stuff - Versus Uomo, Black and Blue Jeans, Dreamer, etc .... which didn't sell well, so they've fallen into the mainstream bandwagon with...
Safest? Mentioned a few times already but Acqua di Gio. Not sure if I've found anyone who didn't like it.
Not rocket science man ... Just wear what you like.
Nice scent but batches from the last few years - 2012+ smell like watered down pickle juice.
Really didn't like this one. It sort of reminded me of Japon Noir (the discontinued Tom Ford Private Blend). It shares that glossy, sickling candy like sweetness.
Try some of the Neroli Portofino flankers that was released recently - Acqua I think and Forte?
Also suggest buying the 800ml splash bottle of 4711 EdC and going crazy with it.
Was killing time at a Thrift Store and found these really old gems and was wondering if anyone here knows if there's any value to them. The Avon in the rabbit bottle smelt really "dirty." Like there...
I ran through the Parfums de Marly line pretty quickly at Nordstorm so take this with a grain of salt but I found the whole line generic and a little boring. Some of them smelt like copycats - wasn't...
Always thought the original Declaration was light enough for summer wear so not sure where this fits in to be honest.
Any splash on cologne will do: 4711 or Eau d'Orange Verte.
I still consider Declaration by Cartier to be Jean Claude Ellena's original TdH. The reformulated TdH today smells really generic now. If you enjoy vetiver, I'd suggest Vetiver by Guerlain.
Irish Leather by MEMO
I'd be surprised if they discontinue the Incense series unless it was because they couldn't source the ingredients for them anymore (which is what I think happened with the Red series). The perfume...
I used to get annoyed and yes there are some sh*t flankers out there but damn there's some nice ones including Dior Homme, Eau Sauvage, Declaration, Rive Gauche, M7, etc....
Grand Neroli by Atelier Cologne or Eau d'Orange by Hermes
Eau d'Orange Verte by Hermes
Strangely, the Leaves series always had issues with sales so I'm not surprised. Sad considering some of them were brilliant and/or beautiful. They were first housed in blue bottles which threw people...
Taken down from the CdG Parfums site, as well as Luckyscent.
Discoutinued or is there plans to reformulate and repackage them?
Montale Cuir d'Arabie
I have a pretty high threshold when it comes to weirdness but I found the JAR scents to be very surreal. Also, Velvet Oud Mood by MFK.
Try Encre Noire Sport.
I smelt this when it was first released as part of the original Dior Trio: Cologne Blanche, Eau Noire, and Bois d'Argent, under the creative direction of Hedi Slimane. Beautiful stuff but the honey...
Yeah, I took a hiatus somewhere between 2011-2013. Stop buying stuff. I slowly got back into it in early 2014. Back then, I was all about the super weird and avant-garde but slowly discovered their...
Declaration by Cartier
The "original" Terre d'Hermes IMO.
Notes look interesting but man, I don't think I've enjoyed anything from Amouage in the last 5+ years. House has gone downhill in my opinion. They should bring back stunners like Homage and Tribute.
Maybe a bit of a stretch but I found the EdT in the same vain as Musc Ravageur - that sort of toasty, warm, vanilla, comfort feeling.
Aquatic? Nope. But check out the L'eau line from SL if you're looking for light and breezy for the summer.
Looks like you don't really like the house "style" so I probably wouldn't recommend anything.
Funny, this was the exact same way I found my bottle of Modern Reserve a few months back. I just missed my bus and had 20 minutes to kill so I went across the street into a drugstore chain here to...
Five O'Clock Au Gingembre by Serge Lutens
Wow, really impressed by this one. I overlooked it when it...
I'd probably just do a directory search for fragrances that use a hinoki note and go from there but personally haven't found anything that smells predominately hinoki heavy. Even CdG's Hinoki, I get...
212 Men (new formulation) by Carolina Herrera
Love the fresh cut grass note at the top with that musky/gaiac...
Mostly a lot of vintage or discounted stuff. Once I found an ad on Craigslist where this guy was selling off his ex-girlfriends perfumes for next to nothing. I pick up a bottle of Montale and Serge...
Nothing really. I haven't bought a bottle in a really, really long time. I've gotten to the point where I have enough juice to last me a decade that I want to enjoy what I have now.
Generally, I would say 4711 EdC - you can grab a 800ml splash bottle for $35-40.
But I've found $200 fragrances at garage sales for $10.
Its always been a pretty "quiet" fragrance. In fact, I think the entire Diptyque line is that way.
Really respect Francis Kurkjidan as a perfumer but I've yet to find anything in his line worth owning. Either it's way overpriced, too weird to wear, short lived, or too similar to something I...
Le Male (Vintage 2006 Formulation) by Jean Paul Gaultier
Found my nearly full vintage bottle off Craigslist off a guy who was selling it for almost...
2 Man + Wonderwood (layered) by Comme des Garçons
Thanks. Will do. I had both those on my radar.
Well - guess I'll skip MEMO for now. Was thinking about some LM Parfums samples and Stephane Hubert Lucas 777. Feel free to suggest anything else?
Meaning to pick up samples off LS. Based on descriptions alone - Africian Leather seems interesting.
Honestly, not a bad list of scents there. Personally enjoy Truth, 212 Men, Mania, AdG, Cuiron ....
Finished my sample of this and I quite like it. Not sure if I'd ever buy it considering I wouldn't get much use out of it but it reminds me of a modernized and refined version of vintage Kouros.
I got a sample when I bought a couple other CdG scents and I quite liked it, even got a compliment. I think it flew under the radar because people didn't think it was weird enough in that CdG way,...
When I heard the tin can version was being replaced with the square bottles, I bought three backup bottles of Rive Gauche for $25 each. Normally, I won't do this. Found six bottles of Bang by Marc...
It's really unique and you aren't going to find anything quite like it. Just blast on 30 sprays and the longevity issues are gone.
You might find some similarities with D&G Pour Homme (the tobacco...
Found a bottle of this and I quite like the original (even own it). It was a limited edition from 2003 that's relatively hard-to-find now. No tester and the SA won't let me spray it. Not much on it...
BTW - I quite liked CK2. Also, heard good things about Lonesome Rider but can't vouch for it as I haven't smelt it yet. New Hermes Eau de "...." are getting some hype. New Armani Prives,...
Does anyone have a list of upcoming releases for 2016?
It's actually Le Labo's second best seller after Rose 31 from what I've heard. Cult? More like popular mainstream favourite. In fact, Le Labo's not really niche anymore. More people wear Le Labo over...
Buy a 800ml bottle of 4711 for $35 bucks and go crazy with it. That's what I did. A heavy splash, on a hot day and it lasts easily the whole day.
Such a tough question to answer. Just one?
I concur with M7, Homage and Tribute attar (both masterpieces), Tauer Orris ... To name a few.
But if I had to pick one, it'd be Elternhaus...
I bought it two years ago as a birthday gift to myself and quite like it and still enjoy it today. I also own Hinoki. Wasn't a fan of the second Monocle scent: Laurel. The only issue I have with it...
I really didn't know what I was getting. Sniffed the bottles and quite liked them. I did a quick search online and couldn't find much about them besides it was discontinued years ago. EdP...
Went to the flea market for the first time over the long weekend and decided to go vintage perfume hunting. Didn't find a ton of stuff but was intrigued by a few things. Found a 80s or 90s bottle of...
Found a 30ml or 40ml bottle of the EdT at the Flea Market and the lady was asking for $30 but I think I could get her to let go of it for less. I entered the barcode online at checkcosmetics and it...
Declaration d'un Soir by Cartier
A lot of the powerhouse stuff from the 60s, 70s, and 80s like Azzaro, Drakkar, Polo, etc... have been reformulated and smell really nurtured right now. Like all their "old" bits have been removed and...
I just do a general search for "cologne" or "perfume."
I highly recommend trying to get a hold of Santalum by Profumum Roma, especially the vintage dark brown juice versuses the pale yellow reformulated juice.
I read a thread here a while ago about searching out fragrances on Craigslist and although the general consensus was a big "no-no" I can't help but find some scent gems at next to nothing prices....
Invasion Barbare by Parfums MDCI
As mentioned, I'd give Declaration I second whirl. It isn't an easy one to like and it gets some getting used to, but once you do ... It's gorgeous. Only other one I love is Declaration d'un Soir.
Green Irish Tweed
Feuille Vertes (reissue)
Windsor (2009 & 2010 batch)
Most recent compliments from The Dreamer, Cuiron, CdG Avignon, Pulp ...
Was thinking about going with this one today as well, but decided to go with Avignon by CdG instead.
It was generally well received. I quite liked it when it came out but it was never "really" my kind of scent. The stuff they sell now though smells like watered down grapefruit sh*t.
I have about 31 bottles and 3 large sized decants I consider bottles. So a total of 34.
Personally I want to downsize it even more to under 10, or even 5.
Series 3: Incense by Comme des Garcons
Just wanted to bump this old thread to see if anyone had any more recent suggestions?
Generally wasn't impressed with the line.
They're all fairly synthetic, composed of mainly cheap ingredients, and act more like eau de colognes to warrant what they sell for.
Like all Creeds, it depends on the batch.
Anywhere from a half hour to several hours.
It's a miniature bottle collection. So they're all 5-15ml at the max. The lot's $150 and it comes with a display case. I'm interested in just buying a few. Mainly the masculines and possibly sniffing...
I managed to find a vintage perfume collection at an estate sale. Mini bottles mainly.
The guy provided me with a rough list (tons of typos) but was wondering what was worth looking into? I know...
Someone's already selling a bottle.
Notes: grapefruit, almond, orange,...
