How nice! What a great idea for your scent collection.
I happen to like both DH and DHI. There are many men's scents in this gourmand category:
As for gender, it's all relative.
Tom Ford Tuscan Leather for the elven men. Raspberry and leather.
I agree that tastes differ, but I like VC&A Midnight In Paris and he likes it, too.
In all things, sampling is a must.
This is perfect! :)
I like Encre Noir for the orcs! Very dark indeed!
I think BPAL is wonderful for "theme" scents.
These are funny!
I am thinking of VC&A Gardenia Petale: gardenia blossoms and a mushroom note!
Also, Cartier's Baiser du Dragon, no explanation needed. :)
It's interesting to see what notes conjure what images.
I also thought of the very green Ombre Dans l'Eau by Diptyque.
For this character, Thranduil, the elvenking of Mirkwood from the films. My scents below came to mind. In the books, there is mention of "berries and leaves." After all, his son is named...
I think this is sold by Beauty Habit online. They have three "dark scents" but have not tried them.
Please write your impressions. :)
Shalimar is a wonderful scent for men or women, as are Jicky and Mitsouko.
Vol de Nuit in parfum is also wonderful and unisex.
Dior Leather Oud
Prada No. 3 Cuir Amber
Cuir de Lancôme is a wonderful floral leather and totally unisex. This was once sold for $35USD online and now it's up over $80USD. The original launch...
A pleasant scent with a touch of sweetness. I could do without the "flask" look of the bottle, however.
I rarely get compliments on my scents. I think people think it's rude and terrible personal to make such a remark.
I imagine on those rare occasions, the scent must be fantastic:
Taste is everything. Some women like florals, some like orientals with lots of vanilla, etc.
What are her tastes?
I went for the smaller bottle. These scents pack a punch, so I went with a bottle of Oud Ispahan and one of Leather Oud.
I heard they took the leather out of Cravache, which means "riding crop." That is like a scent called Saddle and taking our the leather note.
Why does the Middle East get the first crack at sampling all the right scents? :rolleyesold:  They got Wood Mystique and the new Guerlain orientals.
Maybe they like rich spices compared...
Late to the party, but this anyone post this:
BRM, what a sweet story.
I have been looking at my bottle of 24, Faubourg EDP for some time and I think now is the time to wear it again.
I bought my bottle from Imagination Perfumery so very...
Love this one from the milk glass bottle to the whisper of leather.
Late to the party on this one, but what fun you all had!
The Chamade is wonderful, but I also like the Coriolan.
Wow. That is a huge increase.
Like Rickbr, I love leathers, and a sampling is a must.
ROTFL! That is hilarious. I am sure one must actively cultivate this taste.
N is for Nocturnes by Caron
Treadmill for cardio.
Weights for muscle tone.
Yoga for flexibility.
I don't know about hating, but some scents I have worn caused reactions in some people.
K is for Kokorico
I wear scent whenever I feel like it. No different with Derby.
For me, its EDT of Niki de Saint Phalle.
Lalique Encre Noire = Chanel Sycomore (I prefer Sycomore)
Mark Birley Charles Street = Tom Ford Tuscan Leather (I prefer the TFTL)
+1 for L'Eau d'Issey. This is a very fresh scent.
Another is Kenzo Power.
I get tons of samples when I purchase. The sole reason for samples is to generate more business. This is a no brainer. SAs who don't understand this are missing the point. I usually buy from the...
Go for it, danieq! Heck, I wear Parfum d'Habit, said by some to be a "hairy-chested alpha male scent."
If you like it, wear it!
+1 for Encre Noire.
Chanel Sycomore and its less refined cousin Lalique Encre Noire
Cartier Roadster, vetiver and mint
Guerlain Vetiver, with a little tobacco
I adored the old Bath and Body Blackberry Vanilla, and find Dark Kiss a little too sweet for myself.
Some nice berry scents marketed to women:
Original La Petite Robe Noire by Guerlain (the...
Teardrop, thank you for this. Is this a limited edition?
Much like Histoires de Parfums, I would be inspired by figures of history from around the world.
I really like the HdP take on persons from the past: Marquis de Sade (the 1740 is...
If you love leather florals, this seems to be a must-try!
A is for Aliage by Estee Lauder
It sounds like an enjoyable time. Most young women seem to prefer gourmands and vanilla.
I use pipettes for splash bottles and funnels for atomisers.
What a great set of responses!
L'Artisan Passage d'Enfer. It never occurred to me that Hell was a geographical place. :)
This is actually a moisturizer for use in hospitals.
It is called Aloe Vesta Skin Conditioner. It is used in hospitals and has no scent to clash with your fragrance.
Another favourite is...
Try A*Men Pure Havane.
Q is for Quorum
Thank you all again for the kind comments.
Has anyone done this before?
I would like to start a list of scents inspired by places and geographic locations.
My list (some are common):
From Les Voyages Olfactifs collection:
Ambre Narguile, but followed up with Santal Massoia
Patchouli, Iris and Labdanum
I happen to love Estee Lauder. I adore Azuree and Youth Dew.
Today, I wore Azuree. This is so wonderful and distinctive that I recognized it on a women at a doctor's office. Of course, I...
I can only dream how wonderful this is!
Try Tom Ford Neroli Portofino for a lot of citrus.
Amazon usually has good service, but sometimes the image on the site and what you get is different, and they have a disclaimer on this.
LOL! Jon, that would be very animalic.
The scent is a strong orange bloom with amber and vanilla.
I would try to go by an Hermes boutique and see pictures from their e-tail site. It is hard to tell in pictures.
I would agree with...
In the picture, the bottle top seems to flare out. Real bottles are square in shape, even though one side of the bottle is curved in.
There does not seem to be a huge market to counterfeit the...
What is the best scent with a leather note in the By Kilian line?
I adore Back to Black and Sweet Redemption, but would like their take on leather.
My position remains the same. A scent is as "masculine" as the man who wears it. I have only one rule about fragrances: I have to enjoy it.
I agree 100%. Give me my bee bottle back!!
hednic and chypre, glad to share! I decant all my splash bottles into atomisers.
Also, it is my understanding that Guerlain made its debut in 1828 in the Hotel Le Meurice, which catered...
Have you tried L'Artisan's Mure et Musc?
Great notes! Thank you for sharing, Jimmy.
Thank you, David, for the post and sharing this.
I love my bee bottles! (Mods, please merge is posted previously.)
(Has anyone posted this? If so, please, mods, merge this.)
This is a view into the new boutique.
Mother wore Patou 1000, Soir de Paris, Fidji and Chanel No. 5.
Father wore Morny French Fern and Lentheric Onyx.
When I was old enough, I wore whatever I could beg. I later wore L'Air du Temp.
Thank you for the note, hednic. I hope they release another one with leather.
Enjoy, lincoln!! I have the EDP and it is very green.
Paul, thank you for this.
I recall in the film "Coco and Igor" had those scents of Coco visiting Ernest Beaux in Grasse..
All those flowers were so wonderful to see.
Fragrance as a TV tie-in. Marketing can do anything.
Great shoes! I like them. I like my exercisewear to be fun and energetic!
As they say in French, "It's not Mardi Gras today." LOL!
Good point about the truth of compliments. I...
Thank you, hednic. Whatever transpires, at least I will smell nice!
Agree with hednic on this.
These scents are more accessible than those he mentioned, but are not in most department stores:
Parfums d'Empire Cuir Ottoman
Serge Lutens Chergui
I vote for A. I think they truly want to give a genuine compliment.
Maybe olfactory fatigue is to blame.
K is for Kokorico by Gaultier.
Derby or Sycomore?
The votes are now in favour of Sycomore.
These are two different scents, IMO.
The Dior Homme has a wonderful iris with leather.
The Intense version is more gourmand and sweeter, and lacks the nice leather note.
I is for Givenchy Insense.
No one wants generalisations made about themselves. We all see ourselves as unique with uniquely attractive qualities.
The women who find men "edible" or "so delicious" are probably also sensing...
Sometimes I get ill when smelling Midnight in Paris, but I have to be already ill.
Smelling SL Sarrasins makes me smile and inhale.
I think because this is a unisex forum but slanted toward men, the women on this forum get a little tired of this.
So, yes, women can and will come down hard on a man if he thinks just wearing a...
Superficial women are attracted to superficial men. Think of a beautiful young woman with a rich husband old enough to be her great grandfather. It works for them, and that's OK. It's a symbiosis....
DH still hardly ever uses any scents at all save for aftershave balm or deodorant.
Thank you all for your perspectives. I will have to try both as I am picky about how sweet I want a scent.
Such a nice list, but I am not into Creeds.
I would suggest Tom Ford Tuscan Leather and Parfum d'Empire Cuir Ottoman.
Both have leather and great sillage and longevity. The Cuir Ottoman is a...
That may well be.
I really think the glass bee bottle for any gender's scent is elegant. It looks great on a dresser or vanity. It recalls the old days when people took the time (or HAD the...
You may wish to try online discount fragrance companies. In no way does my recommendation mean an endorsement.
Some discounted scents, be warned, have very high prices. The rare items end up...
I have even heard of young women snubbing a young man because he wore the wrong brand of clothing. Shallow thinking.
I am married to someone who never wore any fragrance until after we were...
Does it really matter? Wear it if you like it.
I spray Roadster on fabric and get longevity. After revisting it, I find I like Roadster. I need to spend more time sampling the Sport version.
Have not tried the extrait yet. This is interesting. Maybe Lucky Scent will get getting this?
 That is a little bit extreme! Honestly, I think men should at least wear a light coat of talcum on their faces after a shave like they did back in the day. Takes down the shine. We are...
Now Derby and Sycomore are almost even in votes!
Z is for Zibeline by Weil.
Thank you, therese19. I will have to sample both.
Nature always needs a little help.
Human nature is hardly ever happy with reality.
