How about PG Cuir d'Iris? Lots of leather.
Agree with Mumsy here. Some of the most masculine men in history (fought in duels with sword and pistol, romanced scores of women, rode horses and carriages hard, gambled fortunes until dawn, all...
Gender of a scent is relative, but I think Jicky is a magnificent unisex marketed to women.
+1 on Chanel No. 19 in all forms.
I would also add Jolie Madame for the violet/leather.
Thank you, cacio.
This will happen season in and season out, I am afraid. Looks like I need a better storage system for my scents.
I wonder what people do in areas where it's warmer than...
I loved Leather Oud and Oud Ispahan, and also Bois d'Argent and Granville, but Cuir Cannage came along and won my heart.
As another EDP, I may try, but I already have the EDT and the other EDP.
Of my list, I wear Moulin Rouge the most.
Marquis de Sade
I am wondering how storing fragrances affects the quality of fragrances.
For instance, one of the storage rooms on the house is now 30.5C (about 87F). It will be this way for a period of weeks....
Cuir Ottoman by PdE. This is my go-to scent and I wear it every week.
+1 on Leather Oud.
+1 Le Labo Patchouli 24. This is a smoke, leather and patchouli grenade.
Lonestar Memories does have smoke and leather, but it also has a barbeque vibe that I could not get...
The first thing to come to my mind is SL Fumerie Turque. It's not like Tobacco Vanille with all that vanilla.
+1 on Liz Zorn Siovohle Meerschaum.
Yes, that's MItsouko parfum, alright!
There was also a scene where Lady Mary spills a bottle of perfume, and in dismay says something like her room will "smell like a tart."
I loved Stella when it first came out. It appears that P&G really goes against the original ethos of the Stella brand, which was cruelty-free. P&G is known well for its animal testing of...
Agree about the leather. The leather is very subtle in the modern scents. The EDP is a very good one of the moderns.
If you like leather, you might try Balmain Jolie Madame. More leather there....
+1 for MPG Jardin du Nile
Caron Third Man/Le Troisieme Homme
Rosine Rose d'Homme
Any floral a man wants to wear.
Let him choose. At his age, he is sure to have some preferences.
He can wear anything he chooses.
Guerlain Habit Rouge (all versions)
Guerlain Arsene Lupin Dandy
Guerlain Sous Le Vent (sold to women)
Guerlain Mouchoir de Monsieur
I agree that any young man can wear whatever he pleases, too, be it borrowing some of his father's or grandfather's scents, or even his grandmother's. (Some women's scents from the 1920s-1970s make...
Try the Santal in the oil. It's wonderful!
+1 for Tobacco Vanille
This is a lighter alternative to Black Orchid. I actually like Velvet Orchid. Not as strong and gourmand as Black Orchid.
Thank you all for the input!
Agree with this totally. You have a great selection for a young man.
You might also try some women's scents, especially those that are older. They contain ingredients found in many men's scents....
Thank you for the tips.
It looks like you like leathers, so I recommend:(these can all be bought online)
Roger Piguet Bandit. a great leather
Balmain Jolie Madame, violets and leather
Lancome Duir de Lancome, smoky...
It's all relative. I adore leather notes but this one did not grab me.
Good to see you, Suga!
I am looking back into my patchouli collection and loving my Montale Patchouli Leaves, Coromandel and Zino Davidoff, but I am interested in the Givenchy Gentleman. I bought a bottle at a discounter...
Interested to try this since the EDP Intense version gutted the leather.
Encre Noire candle by Lalique
I enjoyed this since its launch. It is a very complex scent with more than 20 notes but somehow it works wonderfully. It is at once traditional barber shop and contemporary.
I have the vintage eau de Cologne, the leather EDP, the silver/chrome Beau Cavalier EDP, the 1990s EDT, the recent EDT and the numbered edition parfum.
The EDP and parfum are richer with less...
Laughing at where someone who is unable to sample a product in-store is unacceptable. You echo what Gaia Fishler of The Non-Blonde feels, who saved $230.
L'Heure Fougueuse IV
Santos de Cartier in the EDP
And a mention of Baiser du Dragon, now reissued. This is a unisex.
For me, Mouchoir and Jicky in the EDP.
S is for Lancome Sagamore.
Bleu de Chanel can now be found in the eau de parfum.
Different forumulations are sometimes very different. This requires sampling.
This is not niche, but I would say Hermes Caleche Eau Delicate can be worn by men. Lots of cedar.
I would also add Caron Tabac Blond and Caron Poivre.
I would say if you enjoy a scent, wear it...
How wonderful.. Being a member has deepened my enjoyment of perfume.
I would recommend going to a fragrance counter and have her sample the scents and see what she likes.
In my experience, smoking has no bearing on what a person prefers.
Historically, the only...
O is for Organza by Givenchy
Thank you all again for the help. I am thinking of VC&A First. Maybe?
Yes, Kumquat, I gave her a decant of Mitsouko some time ago in the EDP. The others are full bottles.
This would have to be post-1932 as Milord was launched then.
Welcome, and I am glad you mentioned West Third. Lots of nice scents.
Thank you, Ken, for the suggestion and kind comment. It's wonderful to share an enthusiasm for perfume!
Thank you all for the kind suggestions. I just might have to have her sample some in my collection.
Oh, and I also gave her Shalimar Initial and L'Heure Bleue.
Oh, my, kumquat! How wonderful!
The latest vintage I bought was a bottle of Elegance by D'Orsay from the 1940s. The box was a little worn, and the bottle open, but otherwise in great...
I have an elderly neighbor with whom I share a love of perfumes. I occasionally gift her with perfumes as she loved fragrances as a teen and young woman. She likes florals such as Chanel No. 5, so...
You can google and then go into images to see a selection of photos. That should help.
If you want sweet, try Costamor Tabacca. It is definitely sweet.
Scents are not intrinsically sexy. The sexiness depends on the person wearing it.
Some people can wear any fragrance and it will be sexy.
Wonderful to see this!
E is for Caron En Avion
Many men's scents are in the EDP or pure perfume strength:
Midnight In Paris EDP
Habit Rouge EDP (perfume is hard to find)
Many unisex scents come in eau de parfum ,such as the Serge Lutens\,...
I also tend to prefer EDPs over the EDTs. I like parfums, but the low sillage usually makes this a poor choice for me...except Vol de Nuit.
I agree that it is not a gardenia bomb the way Chanel's Gardenia is, or Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia.
Armani Prive Cuir Amethyste
Histoires de Parfums: 1740, 1889, and 1876
I think it's all a matter of taste. Just as with food or wine, there are likes and dislikes.
One is not better than the other. Just enjoy and don't apologise for liking something or not liking...
+1 on this. I love Cartier Les Heures IV and Nicolai Vie de Chateau.
I wonder how the turmeric is worked in. Too much curry will turn me away. I could not deal with PdE Fougere Bengale.
I have just simple rules for my fragrances in regards to gender, occasion or season.
I wear what I want, and when I want. Period.
Looks like another attempt to cash in on the leather and oud notes as did Acqua di Parma, who also did two scents based on each note.
If one likes this type of bottle, one might look at the L.T....
For me, it's L'Eau Boisee. Very crisp and fresh with the citrus.
Where is the leather? Not listed in the notes.
Welcome, Cat! And congratulations on your coming marriage! :)
Your scent is just that---YOURS. Wear what you like, regardless the marketing, the gender, or anyone else's associations.
L'Heure Bleue in the EDP. A light spray as this can clear a room with sillage.
Mike, I heard that all of the Voyage scents will be discontinued about a week again from the Guerlain at the Palazzo.
For a real "horse note," try Les Heures de Cartier IV L'Heure Fougueuse. This is a wonderful scent.
You might want to move this to the perfume bottle forums. You might get a response there.
The member Kumquat is also very good with dating bottles.
Off the top of my head for leather:
Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
Dior Cuir Cannage
Smell Good Daily Vintage Leather...
Danieq, if you like these Guerlains, you simply must try Apres L'Ondee!
This is a classic from 1906, if I recall.
What a great find! Enjoy!
Can you post a link?
Very funny! Some celebuscents are well done, but most are just ordinary scents: fruity florals for women, fougere-y scents for men.
A new category, as Turin and Sanchez might say: "fougere-y"...
I wonder if it's somehow funded by the companies.
Welcome! You might also try the Calvin Klein Summer scents. They have a new one each year as a limited edition.
+1 on Samsara. Loads of sandalwood.
I am also reminded of Miller Harris Cuir d'Oranger, which is now discontinued.
Orange blossom and jasmine with leather.
D'Orsay punch, the alcoholic kind you CAN drink:
I am rediscovering my bottle of the older 1990s EDT. The newer version, even...
If you like jasmine, and it appears that you like leather, try Serge Lutens Sarrasins, a wonderful jasmine/leather.
This is not light, but perhaps a light application will work.
For light, try...
Great interview! I love Candy Perfume's blog and like his articles.
For rose and patchouli, I would also recommend Juliette Has A Gun Lady Vengeance.
This is really a unisex IMO.
Great thread, Kumquat!
How about a "horsemane" note in Cartier IV L'Heure Fougueuse.
Another is a "clean shirt" accord in Richard James EDT.
Smelling different, according to some, gives men a competitive sexual edge with women.
Any man is free to smell like every other man. If wearing unique scents makes a man pompous, so be it. ...
I get a chocolate vibe from SL Fumerie Turque.
Neroli Portofino inspired by Italian scents.
+1 Tom Ford Tuscan Leather and Mark Birley Charles Street
Chanel Sycomore and Lalique Encre Noire
Armani Prive Cuir Amethyste and Bottega Veneta EDP
Aramis and Estee Lauder Azuree
Best wishes, and thank you for the pictures.
I am sure strong scents are not used when one is one the job, but do enjoy your perfumes!
You have already mentioned 1740 Marquis de Sade by HdP, which I love, but there is also the L'Occitane Immortelle de Corse eau de parfum, which has been discontinued.
It may be carried by...
S is for Samsara by Guerlain.
All of my leather florals!
Happy birthday! The Richard James EDT is wonderful if you can find it. :)
Agree that the EDP is a lot richer. It's a matter of taste.
Mauboussin de Mauboussin the the spaceship bottle...that brings up memories of a lot of fruitiness and spices.
I recall a very nice scent, very unique. Not one I would put in my front rotation,...
All of what I have samples of the Dior Privee line have excellent longevity and projection. The :Leather Oud and Oud Ispahan can outlast a shower, and its very hard to wash off if you want to switch...
I agree the Chanel Cuir de Russie is smoky with the iris, but the Le Labo Patchcouli 24 is a smoke/leather and patchouli H-bomb. There are no florals in Patchouli 24, On the other hand, the Cuir...
Just an update of 2011. Cuir de Lancome prices are getting higher.
I found a quick Internet search and the lowest price was around $65.00USD.
