Thank you for all the suggestions and feedback. I'll check out EN and let you guys know how it went.
  31. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?

That's an appealing description. People say that it's geared towards older men. Is that mainly due to the absence of sweet notes? Or is there something in there that smells dated?
  32. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?

I don't mind if it's a linear but good smell. It doesn't look like a scent that has multiple transitions, etc.

  34. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?

That sounds appealing. Sometimes the sweetness can ruin the scent. I think the Tonka in Vetiver Tonka made the smell a bit nauseating. I loved the green aspect but not the nutty sweet aspect.
  35. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?

  36. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?

Interesting perspective on EN. So even though EN is slightly artificial, you still consider it to be better than modern synthetic fragrances. Good to know how EN stands in comparison to other scents.
  37. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?

Thanks for the recommendation. If EN is too rough, I think I'd appreciate a "more rounded feel". I think you're right; the simplicity of EN would get boring (3-4 notes sounds too simple).
  38. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?

I don't mind Iso-E. Molecule 01 was boring but decent, and Terre d'Hermes seems to utilize Iso-E really nicely with citrus.
  39. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?

Thank you for the analogy. That's an interesting way to describe the dark inky note.
  40. Re: I tried Chanel's Sycomore; should I try Encre Noire?
