Absolue pour le Soir is my favorite, by far.
Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille
Diptyque Eau Duelle
Both are spicy vanillas with a dash of bergamot and woodsy undertones.
This! A Taste of Heaven definitely feels like an amped-up version of the Caron, the mugwort in AToH even adding a boozy aspect missing in Pour un Homme. Very nice - and my SOTD, btw.
Top five (at the moment):
MPG Route du Vétiver
Guerlain Tonka Impériale
Malle Musc Ravageur
Montale Black Aoud
Dior Ambre Nuit
Tea for Two - you can still be lucky and find a bottle of the original (discontinued) formulation here or there. I stumbled upon one in Zagreb, Croatia a couple of months ago (in another store, I...
I love patchouli - among the patchouli scents I have, my favourites would probably be (in order of preference) Profumum Patchouly (just incredible!), Chanel Coromandel, Lutens Bornéo 1834, Dior...
Both are great - as are so many from that line...
I have a bottle of this, and it's gorgeous - among my favourite ambers, along with Précieux, Fétiche, Nuit, Russe...
A difficult combination - I'm not sure about apple-centered scents. If you take the apple out of the equation, though, the four other notes (cedar, grapefruit, patchouli, and musk) come together in...
I have a bottle of this (the one without that tacky figurine!) - it's a very nice contemporary fougère, spicy lavender. Good stuff, excellent quality...
Hermès Eau de Gentiane Blanche
- Heeley Vetiver Veritas
- Dior Cuir Cannage
- Hermès Cuir d'Ange
Chanel Eau de Cologne
I have a sample of this (they changed the Hermèssence samples design for this one, BTW, as it comes in a small sample vial with a sprayer, don't know if they'll change the others...), and it's very...
I have a sample of this - enjoy it, and found the "blue cheese" note in it quite unique and interesting...
A very nice incense-smoky amber - very good!
Dior - followed by Chanel and Guerlain.
That would be my suggestion, too - amazing fragrance with a very strong almond element. It's sweet, but not as sweet as the tooth-aching Blu Mediterraneo Sicilian almond you mentioned.
Since this thread first appeared a couple of months ago, I have actually pulled the trigger (as I said above that I had yet to do) and bought an FB of Patchouly - which has instantly turned into one...
This! Lutens' Bornéo is just wonderful. I'm a big patchouli fan, though, and I tend to enjoy the feistier ones. Best straight-up patchoulis out there are by Profumum and Mazzolari, IMO.
Another one for Chanel Eau de Cologne - amazing stuff!
MKK and Musc Ravageur are both sensational - I'd rank both of them among my all-time favorite fragrances.
From your list I have these:
Nicolai New York
Montale Black Aoud
MPG Santal Noble
MPG Ambre Precieux
All of those are great, but my top three would be Ambre...
Yep, I agree, the MDCI sculpture bottles are very tacky indeed. Way over the top.
Other hideous bottle designs are the standard lines of Maître Parfumeur et Gantier (hideous plastic diamond...
I have Pétroleum which I do enjoy and find quite unique.
Some of the others are fine, as well (I prefer 1740, Ambre 114, and 1725), but I have not felt tempted to actually get FBs of any of them,...
Own Jubilation, like Interlude even better.
Eau Noire is the one I like the most. I have five FBs from this line - in order of preference: Eau Noire, Vétiver, Patchouli Impérial, Leather Oud, and Ambre Nuit.
It's an amazing line, but for...
Sycomore is her favorite, but she responds very favorably to Tea for Two and Black Aoud, as well...
Very good line, excellent quality, and amazing overall variety. I'll list the 5 I own:
1. Eau Noire
3. Patchouli Impérial
4. Leather Oud
5. Ambre Nuit
Ironic how my two favorites...
Sounds very exciting. AP is one of my all-time favorites, so it'll be fun to see how they tweaked it for this "ultimate" edition.
I second Cacio's suggestion for Caron 3me Homme
Other fantastic 80s stuff:
- Guerlain Derby (reformulated, but current version is still great)
- Nicolaï New York
- The first generation of scents...
Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille
Mona di Orio Vanille
Malle Musc Ravageur
MPG Ambre Précieux
Caron Pour un Homme
By Kilian A Taste of Heaven
Best ones from 2014 so far, IMO:
Dior Cuir Cannage +1
Heeley Vetiver Veritas
Amouage Journey Man
Was that fragrance Hermèssence Épice Marine, by any chance?
In my case, no - I have no (in any way comparable) passion for food.
Not too keen on either. The stand-outs from this house are Patchouli 24 and Oud 27, IMO...
I have and really enjoy Ambra Mediterranea - it's very rich, complex, heavy even, and with unbelievable longevity and stellar projection. You have to go VERY light on the trigger with this one, so I...
I agree - those two are my favorites, as well.
Have and love both, but Pour un Homme a bit more so than Troisième Homme...
Another vote for MKK...
Invasion Barbare, easily.
Chanel Coromandel followed closely by Mazzolari's Patchouli.
Other strong contenders are Dior's Patchouli Impérial and Lutens' Bornéo 1834.
Lavender is one of my favorite notes, and if you like lavender-Vanilla combinations there's a lot of great ones with good-to-excellent longevity out there.
I'll second andym72's suggestion of...
No, I don't. I do like to keep just a couple of bottles reserved for use on special occasions, but that is irrespective of time of year or day.
A fascinating statement - a profoundly paradoxical clash of the subjective and objective principles.
I'd definitely go for SDV...
I love this line and currently have five FBs (Vétiver, Eau Noire, Patchouli Impérial, Ambre Nuit, and Leather Oud). From your list I voted for Eau Noire, but my overall favorite is probably Vétiver. ...
MPG Santal Noble (I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet...).
Amber, certainly, but one of the most enjoyable, classic, and successful combos is vanilla and lavender - just ask them at Guerlain! (Jicky, Mouchoir de Monsieur)
Other notable fragrances...
That is my situation, and experience, as well.
Thanks, but that's Dior, Collection Privée.
I think it's been a while since there was a poll on this Guerlain exclusive line. Which one of these fragrances do you prefer, for yourself?
Maybe the best way to start is to look into some of the excellent exclusive lines in some of the large established houses (especially Dior's Collection Privée, Chanel's Les Exclusifs, Hermès'...
4-Route du Vétiver
5-Muscs Koublaï Khän
8-Caron Pour un Homme
I get a lot of powder from Dior's Eau Noire.
They're not on your list, but my favorite ouds at the moment are probably Black Aoud, HdP Pétroleum, and Leather Oud. From your list, I'd probably go with Dark Aoud.
They're pretty good - I especially enjoy Pure Oud.
Yes, I have.
And, no, you're not only doing that - look at the title of your thread again.
Do you know for a fact that it's been reformulated, or are you basing that very bombastic statement on your impression of one single bottle?
About 15, something like that.
Me too - it's one of my personal favorites, and I get no longevity problems with it, at all.
My GF likes a lot of the things I wear (and dislikes a few, as well…), but she always comments favourably on Sycomore and Black Aoud.
I usually have problems with:
Pepper (black or pink)
Often not too keen on very prominent conifer/pine, either.
I don't think I've seen a poll on this line before, and I'm curious to see which one of these fragrances people here prefer.
My own vote goes to Vanille, a very interesting and much "drier"...
I have a bottle of this, but I fail to quite grasp what all the fuss is about with this one. It's not bad - it's alright, pretty old-school, safe, etc. Not my kind of thing: it would not make it to...
I tend to prefer earthier and rootier interpretations of vetiver, and I'm not very impressed with Mona's Vétyver. It just doesn't quite appeal to me. IMO, the highlights of the line are the brilliant...
I'll second Dior's amazing Eau Noire - and yes, it is getting axed and will disappear soon. Another immortelle highlight (despite the misleading name) is CdG's dark decadent Luxe:Patchouli.
I have a bottle of Lui and enjoy it very much - however, I find the patchouli note extremely pronounced in this one, especially in the drydown. You gotta like patchouli to really enjoy this (I do).
Oh yeah, much of that line totally belies its own name!
Also, I don't get a whole lot of amber from Ambre Narguilé or musk from Musc Ravageur… at least not enough to really consider their names...
I really enjoy Ambra Mediterranea - it's very rich, complex, heavy even, and with unbelievable longevity and stellar projection. You have to go VERY light on the trigger with this one, so I expect my...
I have a bottle of Ambre Nuit, and I enjoy it very much. It's a warm and very classy peppery rose/amber combo - easily unisex, slightly formal, and very comfortable.
I'll second especially Derby, Knize Ten, Leather Oud, and Chanel Cuir de Russie which are all among my favourite leathers. Two other wonderful - and yet unmentioned - leathers are Nicolaï New York...
I have the Cuir de Russie EdP - it's great and very comfortable, not at all too feminine.
50 bottles, not including a few additional ones I use very rarely.
Other - Chanel Eau de Cologne.
My favorite of the three is easily Route du Vétiver, which is one of my favorite fragrances overall. The Etro I don't have, but enjoy. The Givenchy I have, but don't really enjoy and find grossly...
Have to agree - the two former don't appeal to me at all, but VE isn't among my favorite vetivers, either (those would be Sycomore, Route du Vétiver, Dior's Vétiver, Vétiver Tonka, Sel de Vétiver)...
I like this line - I have Lui and would love to get a bottle of Patchouli. Sadly, this line is very hard to come by...
Definitely Musc Ravageur.
Interesting line, but I have yet to pull the trigger on any of the scents. If I were to pick one, however, it would probably be Ambra Aurea or Patchouly.
If my memory serves me correctly, Guerlain's neroli-heavy Cologne du Parfumeur has a bit of the same feel to it. Both are excellent, anyway.
Like Rum, I tried this recently at Heathrow, and it's a good, solid vetiver fragrance. However, I have a lot of excellent vetivers already (Sycomore, Dior Vétiver, Route du Vétiver, Sel de Vétiver,...
I have three Hermèssence FBs - Vétiver Tonka, Ambre Narguilé, and Brin de Réglisse - which are in my opinion the three best ones in the collection. My fourth choice would probably be Santal Massoïa...
Yeah, since 2010, only trifling things have come out of France, hardly worth mentioning at all, but, anyway, off the top of my head there's Dior's Collection Privée and Mona's Les Nombres d'Or line,...
Is that trend called Slumberhouse, by any chance?
They're both wonderful and high-quality fragrances, but, no, I don't get a lot of similarity, either.
Black Aoud is wonderful. In fact, I happen to be wearing it today.
Exactly - I think that pretty much sums up my entire approach to fragrances.
My favorite citrus is Chanel Eau de Cologne - an exquisite neroli-bergamot w. a musky base.
Guerlain Derby and Mouchoir de Monsieur
Chanel Sycomore and Coromandel
Dior Eau Noire and Patchouli Impérial
Hermes Vétiver Tonka and Ambre Narguilé
I have 125 ml bottles of Eau Noire, Leather Oud, Patchouli Impérial, and Ambre Nuit, and much as I love them, I've never felt tempted to go for these in the 250 ml size. They're powerful and will...
