I think I found out why my Dad hates cologne...

Just in time for Father's Day...

Well, I keep trying to get my Dad to wear smellies. But it's failed each time.

First off, we tried to get him to wear PS. To him, it smelled like Old Spice or Hai Karate, which Dad had not-so-fond memories of from my Grandpa. Guess I won't even touch Azzaro Pour Homme for him then, since that's what Grandpa wore from the 1980s until he died...

Most recently, I tried to turn him on again using Acqua di Gio, which normally is an easy surefire way to turn guys onto fragrance. But, I kept forgetting that my Dad hates watermelon. Of course, AdG smells watermelony to my nose... that may be what turned him off. For that matter, he wasn't a fan of MI, either.

I guess I'll give up for now and just give him several DVDs for Dad's Day. >

Try Drakkar, it seems to be popular with Dads.

Drakkar Noir and Rive Gauche might do the trick, or maybe even Mugler cologne.

Sounds like he doesn't like fresh and he doesn't like...well...Old Spice...and who can blame him for that, grandpa or not? Maybe try a light oriental or something based on tea like Yang.

How about Egoiste?

The following should win over your dad:

Creed Bois Du Portugal
Creed Vintage Tabarome
F. Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire

Good luck !

What about Guerlain Vetiver? It's not got the musky thing that a lot of men's colognes do (and which I love), but it's grassily wonderful and manages to be one of my favourites. I wear it often despite the whole being a girl thing. Would he find the unisex thing a problem?

Guerlain Vetiver is another REALLY good idea. Â*I would for sure not mention unisex. Â* Â*

Maybe Original Vetiver or Himalaya. On second thought, try XS.

Just some somewhat random ideas...if the classics aren't doing it for him, and the fresh/fruities aren't getting it either, maybe try something that straddles the classic and the modern like Tabarome Millesime. Far enough from the Azzaros and Old Spices, but not fresh either. Or maybe one of the Dior scents - Homme, Bois d'Argent, Eau Noir? Semi-gourmand, but still pretty masculine. One of the Divine scents maybe? Unique and interesting. Also, Tauer's scent might seem special to him in that it's made by one individual; also to my nose it smells familiar yet exotic, which he may find to be both interesting and comfortable.

Get him a bottle of Envy.

Don't ever buy people deodorant as presents! It's like telling them "I think you smell bad.." or "Do something about that BO".

How about Dunhill Edition?Pure class in a bottle.

Incanto Pour Homme may be a nice choice.

What about Platinum Egoiste or Brit?
A man who isn't used to wear a cologne doesn't have the habit of spraying himslef so I'd give up

but if you still want him to try some try the safest bet - offer him to try gendarme

I already own Brit (it's one of my faves), and I don't want him to smell like me.

But Platinum Egoiste sounds good, as does Envy. And, if he doesn't like the Envy... I'll take it, as I like it! ;D
