New: Burberry London for Men.

From WWD.com

Name: Burberry London for Men
Brand: Burberry (Inter Parfums)
Nose: Antoine Maisondieu (Givaudan)
Packaging: Fabian Baron

Burberry London for Mens woody ambery juice
top: bergamot, lavender, cinnamon leaves and black pepper
heart: mimosa flower, port wine and leather notes
base: guaiac wood, oakmoss, opoponax and tobacco leaf notes

When I began working, I wanted to reflect the essence of the brand in a perfume for the modern contemporary English gentleman, said Maisondieu. I decided on a luxury leather accord as its reminiscent of English clubs.

There will be a print and TV (a first for Burberry) ad campaign shot by Mario Testino featuring Rachel Wise (the face of Burberry London for Women) and Ioan Gruffudd. Gruffudd, a Welsh actor who has had feature parts in movies such as Fantastic Four, Black Hawk Down and King Arthur.

EXCITED!
Wow, this has serious potential. Probably the most promising mainstream launch in a long time.

What do mimosa flower and opoponax smell like?

Mimosa: soft green notes with an almond-like quality.
Opopanax: smells of very powdery vanilla and amber.

I am pumped up about this one as well... Along with August's Varvatos Vintage, this is now my most awaited designer frag (both leathers, interestingly...)

so now that Burberry London is just Burberry for Men (And the original Burberry for Men is dead and gone), they are making a new Burberry London? Sounds confusing! Didnt something like this happen with armani's various "Mania" releases.

Im pretty excited about the Opopanax note, because ever since I saw it listed in Envy, Ive wanted to find something else with it to be able to hone in on exactly its character. Also, its a fun word to say. Opopanax. OpOpAnax. oPOPonax.

p.s. anybody know something else with opopOnax in it?

opopaNAX!,
Phil

It's the same as the one for women but with a dark tartan.

Eau Lente by Diptique and the most famous has to be Shalimar.

Yes, there was (and still is). The 1994 Burberry London for men has recently been renamed Burberry for Men (a la the women's one) to avoid confusion with the new one; however, the packaging is being changed on a stock-turnover basis. The juice of the 1994 one remains unchanged.

Still, after Gaultier2 arrives in the US and I get around to sniffing Angel Men Summer Flash, this (and the new CK Euphoria for men) will be the next one on my designer "to-sniff" list. Just the notes alone sound intriguing... a classic men's scent for the 21st century, perhaps?

Oh, and Burberry Brit for men is still one of my faves, so I'm a fan of this house.

Actually, I'd say the most characteristic use of opoponax is Poison by Christian Dior. It's the opoponax fragrance. That buzzy, strange, sweet-incensey-powdery base of Poison is an overload of opoponax. Also, Envy for Men has opoponax in it. (Rush for Men reportedly has it, too, but I never smelled it.)

ETA: The women's launch this spring was excellent, one of the best women's releases in a long time and better, I think, than Brit. Classy stuff. I have high hopes for this.

I went into a local branch of Boots today to test it. Of course there were no testers on the counter, so I had to ask a SA. She reached for a bottle and sprayed my hand and then she realised that she had sprayed me with Weekend. She then reached for another bottle to sptray my other hand, but the bottle didn't look like the ones pictured on this thread. I asked if it was the new London one that had just come out and she said that it was. I have my doubts!

Has anyone actually seen this out yet? Is there any info on release. It sounds really good and I've been dying to try it, especially after the dissapointment of prada.

I've been asking at fragrance counters. I've been pointed to the old London like 50 times in the last few weeks. "No, the new London" I say. "New London, Connecticut?" one SA responded. good grief.

This may very well be one of the better main line launches for this coming fall.
Thanks for the info Cedric.

I went to the Burberry boutique last weekend and asked. I was told it comes out in September.

This is what it looks like...you've also got a phone number there for those interested..
They say(Esquire)that 'it enhances the elements of a classic cologne(bergamot and lavender) with some hearty, masculine notes including smoky opoponax, leather and tobacco leaves'.
Enjoy,I;m sure I would...and I can't wait to try it.

As artificial it may sound,I still find that port-wine note extremely delicious. It better be notiacable there somewhere, and not just as an some lousy "accord"!
