Smoke Smoke and more Smoke.

I am getting to be near complete on ordering samples of my most wanted in my quest to try everything I think I might like. Bvlgari Black is my signature and what I'm looking for is maybe something I may have missed while ordering decants and samples in the last few months.

What I'm primarily looking for is if I missed a dark smoky fragrance that isn't spicy or sweet. Incense wood leather rubber ok, but not sweet or spicy fruity clovey or floral. Which smokey frags have I possibly not thought of or found? I'm hoping someone can suggest something that I haven't bought a sample of yet. Thanks.

Well, I`ve been wanting badly for a long time to get me Annick Goutals`s Eau du Fier. Could be your cup of tea too, who knows...

Notes include : Smoked tea from China, Sevelle Orange, Smoked birch bark, Cloves, Unrefined salt, Osmanthus.

Unfortunetly this is quite hard to get, but it should be possible. (it`s discontinued)

I had this on my early list to acquire a sample but it was pretty hard to find and I think I remember reading that it was pretty heavy on the cloves, so I took it off my list after a time.

Dior Bois Noire...is something burning?

And if you haven't tried Gucci PH or Tommy Bahama, those might be worth a shot as well.

Do you actually mean Eau Noire? Is that the same thing as Bois Noire?

Gucci PH is my second favorite all time, and I have tried Tommy Bahama.

Thanks

Smells like a (burning) fireplace: Divine L'Homme Sage. Not at all sweet, very elegant and sure smoky.

Gucci PH

I see you already have visit.
For a dry smoke with a perfectly placed moist fruit try Nemo, a big climber on my list, It is REALLY good.

Eau Noire, that's it! I keep confusing it with Egoiste's old name. Sorry. :-[

Markc, I`m not sure how familiar you are with Comme des Garcons, but you should certainly check out CdG 2 Man & Tea.

Btw, I`m quite suprised that you don`t have couple of smoky-classics in your wardrobe: 1) Hermes : Bel Ami. Smoked leather, woods, pepper and dash of sweetness from vanilla. 2) Cartier : Declaration. Tea-ish smokiness out of birch note, with quite heavy load of mediterrian spices.

Two suggestions:

1. Anvers (Ulrich Lang)
2. CdG 2Man

If you're looking for smoke, I would definitely recommend Madini Ambargris (www.madini.com). Â*A very deep amber that resembles a smoldering campfire. And it's pretty inexpensive ($20 for 3 ml). Â*I also highly recommend Divine L'Homme Sage - FANTASTIC!

Great recomendation!

Smells like a campfire that has recently been put out! Never fails to please (in the Winter, not exactly a Summer scent).

Diptyque - Essence of John Galliano (room spray) should definately be on your list. It is very linear (it's a bloody room spray!) but reminds me very beautifully of a burning fire of birch wood, with quite a bit of incense thrown in the mix. Very dry scent.

LOL, I just opened this thread to write this. Amazing fragrance!

If you want smoke with no sweetness, try Norma Kamali's 'Incense.' Depression in a bottle.

This is high on my list to try but I haven't had any luck finding a sample or decant anywhere. Any suggestions?

Thanks to everybody for posts so far.

I guess the best way to test this one would be to order samples from the online vendors that sell Kamali scents in the US. A full bottle is very expensive, and unless you were goth through and through to your very core, it may not be money well spent.

Caswell-Massey makes an oil called Holy Smoke. It's a smokey musk scent, a bit on the sweet side. It's very potent: the bottle reads "One drop lasts all day," and that's no joke.

Good stuff...I need to get me a new bottle of it for winter, but I think it's smooth enough for spring.

I suppose Noir Epices by Michel Roudnitska for Editions de Parfum Frédéric Malle could be one for you (a beautiful, dark, spicy fragrance without a hint of sweetness ; not exactly "smoky", but close to that yet.)

Tea for Two is hugely SMOKY but is also a little sweet

Tea for Two was the one that came to my mind.

Have you tried Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Eau des Îles? Burnt wood, not sweet.

Actually I was scrambling last week to find someone who decants it with no luck. I kind of sampled a couple MPG's last week and was floored and immediately began looking for someone on the sell/swap list who decants this. I will not buy a bottle blind for this much money so I guess I will have to wait for someone who is willing to decant it.

Will anyone mention
Oscar de la Renta pour Lui or Basala or Santos de Cartier?
