THREE INGREDIENTS= THREE NOTES?

Does anyone know of any highly regarded frag with only three ingredients(according to the manufacturer) that provides three distinct stages of drydown? It never ceases to amaze me at the number of companies who put dozens of ingredients in their frags. The mathematical number of combinations and proportions is mind boggling and in so many cases seems like blatant overkill.

grey- I said "highly regarded"!

Kouros is a 3.5 star frag on BN directory, which is pretty decent.

Try YSL ph http://www.basenotes.net/ID26121727.html

That's all I can think of. Maybe there are some L'Artisans that I haven't sampled that meet your needs.

I was only joking, since Kouros is so controversial and the subject of so much ribbing here.

As has been said in other threads, the notes listed on Basenotes are sometimes far from complete. There's a lot more to Kouros than oakmoss, honey, and clove.. that's just part of the drydown!

Gaultier2 has only amber, musk and vanilla...

It may have only three ingredients, but Gaultier 2 is rather linear to me.

you guys realize that all these frags have like 50 ingredients minimum.. those 3 are just the most distinguishable... right?

As czesc has pointed out, the pyramid of notes is far from a recipe. Typical fragrances have HUNDREDS of ingredients. In many cases the 'fumes as listed have none of the actual item listed in their notes as an actual ingredient--the combination of molecules just fools your nose to think you smell that note. Even if you use natural instead of synthetic ingedients, the basic oils have dozens of molecules as part of their makeup. Since, to my knowledge, there is no limit to the number of scents our noses can appreciate, this may well not be overkill.

I thought I'd bring this thread back. I found a few more 'simple' frags.

Velviona (Helmut Lang)- http://www.basenotes.net/ID10213450.html
Consists of one ingredient, the velviona molecule.

Ambre Antique (Coty)- [not listed]
Apparently made with only 4 ingredients (all natural).

Molecule 01 (Escentric Molecules)- http://www.basenotes.net/ID26125547.html
Consists purely of the Iso-E Super molecule.

Happy hunting!
