Well, it came from Germany today, instilled into a couple little lipstick-lookin' purse sprayers. That holy grail of MUSK, the infamous MKK by Serge Lutens.
I have attempted, in the last few weeks, to try three of the purest musks that I thought I could get, and now that I have worn all three, I think I can render an opinion about what I like best.
I had worn Tuscany today - a scent that is one of my very favorite daytime scents. I can't get enough or it's spiciness, but as I sit here snorting (inhaling is too mild a word) at my MKK spritzed wrist, the Tuscany is vulgar in it's naivety. My beloved Tuscany is riding a big wheel as the MKK plows it under with a Ferrari of distinction. (Note to self: Never get these two together again, or for that matter, expose any of your favorites to MKK - too much of a disillusionment.)
Anyhoo.... When I first applied the MKK to my left wrist, it smelled like my girlfriend might after a couple days backpacking the Appalachian trail. Not unpleasant, but definitely unclean and primal and directly at me. Unmistakable armpit or (forgive me for saying this) groin aroma in this stuff somewhere. I am thinking "why wear cologne for this, just work out and hit the town". An hour later, however, the armpit/groin was fading (I will dearly miss it - couldn't get enough of it, actually) into a nude, freshly perspirated (real word?) firm, sexy body. Don't ask me how I knew it was this kind of body - the MKK said so, that's all! I felt like I was 13 again and sneaking through my dad's Penthouse collection. I couldn't believe this aroma was doing this to my head. Now, a couple hours later, it is not sweet (like Musk Ravageur gets on drydown with me) nor chemical and edgy (like Kiehl's tends on me) but simply a warm, clean, tanned body scent - like you would expect humans to smell in an ideal world without dirt and grime and that nasty old soap and water that we contaminate ourselves with daily. I do enjoy the other two musks in their own right, however.
I have read reviews, mostly from women, who have enjoyed a similar experience, only from the female perspective (duh - obviously), so it must truly be a unisex scent.
This stuff is an experience that one must have. If I could get a bottle of this in the USA, I would be going to get it now. As it is, I guess I will be looking for decants and buying them when I can.

, and the Kiehl's is an everyday kind of thing.

.... starts with this animalish harsh scent, maybe I applied it too much on my wrist, because this was just pure a jungle beast for at least an hour. Finally after a while I started to sense the drydown, which is very aromatic & floral... *pheew* now it's been five hours since I applied this on my wrist and I have to say that at this stage it's at its best so far. I can imagine myself using this, but will be applying it hour or two before leaving the house, because otherwise it'll be just way too overpowering.
