Seek suggestions for a nice SUMMER fragrance!

Hi all,

I hope this note finds all my friends here at BN well. Well, Summer will soon be upon us. Of course, here in Maine, Summer is very SHORT lived! This is the reason why the bulk of my collection is geared towards FALL/WINTER fragrances, that is to say, STRONG! I mostly wear TOBACCO, PATCHOULI, VETIVER (among others) type fragrances such as TABAROME MILLESIME, ACQUA DI CUBA, YSL KOUROS, MPG ROUTE DU VETIVER, LV PIPER NIGRUM, SMN PATCHOULI, etc. These are among my FAVORITE fragrances but, I am pretty sure most of these are TOO heavy for Summer. That being said, I own a few fragrances I think are good for Summer such as GEIR, BODY KOUROS, LV DILMUN, FLORIS JF, MILLESIME IMPERIAL, BOUCHERON PH and a few other (lighter) fragrances. I was wondering if you all might suggest some more SUMMER fragrances I should consider. I was thinking about GIT but, now that's it's soooo popular, it is also EXPENSIVE! I recall trying VC&A ph the end of last Summer and VERY much liking this fragrance! In fact, I had a sample of VC&A ph on one wrist and CREED ACIER on the other. At the time, I found them to be EXTREAMLY alike. Now, this was only one wearing and I am sure that there are differences between the two but, for waaaay less than HALF the cost of the ACIER, I have to consider the VC&A ph. So, would VC&A ph be a good choice for Summer ? Of course, many here know that I am considered THE BLACK HOLE OF SCENTS! Therefore, I need something long lasting and...NOT too sweet! I am open to any SUMMER fragrances suggestions. Thanks so much.

Regards,
SixCats!

Hi SixCats.

If you can get hold of it M7 Fresh IMHO would represent the perfect summer scent.

Fresh, light and distinctive.

Hi Red,

M7 Fresh eh ? Ummm...I of course have heard of M7 but not M7 Fresh. I will have to look into that RR. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey SixCats. I don't think VC&A would be considered a summer scent unless it's for a formal evening. Great scent, but not summery. My personal summer faves are:

Hermes D'Orange Verte Concentree (though not the longest lasting frag)

M7 Fresh (just plain fantastic)

Soprani Uomo (maybe a little too sweet if you don't like sweet. Similar:AdG)

Gendarme Green (the best of the "greens", IMHO of course)

Read my lips man: Guy Laroche Horizon. Excellent.

Considering you like vetiver, you HAVE to try Vetiver Extraordinaire if you haven't already. Unfortunately it carries a heafty price tag, but it is very strong, so a little goes a long way and a long time. Like 12 hours long. I garantee the blackhole can't touch this one.

GFT is a kind of "out of the oridinary" citrus. Its starts with the typical classic citrus freshness, but then turns to an herbal/lavender type middle and a slightly powdery base. Long lasting for a cirus, it might have chance against the blackhole.

I was about to recommend D&G PH as a tobacco that can fly in summer, but its popularity eclipses GIT's by mile. Hmmm... Jil Sander Feeling Man is a lighter tobacco as well. Certainly not common as it is discontinued. If you shop a bit, I'm sure you can find it.

And finally, out of the summer scents I recommend to everyone, I think Lanvin L'Homme can stand up to the blackhole. Its a little citrus, a little lavender, and a little wood. All very neatly balanced and deceptively strong.

Good luck!

Creed Original Vetiver, Laguna, Mat male, Givenchy Pour homme...........

I'd add Creed Vetiver (1948) to the list. Seems like a stronger version of Guerlain's Vetiver to my nose. Also, perhaps Lutens' Gris Clair and Divine's L'Homme de Coeur...for the summer, that is.

L'Eau Bleue D'Issey might work.

Let see:

L'Eau Par Kenzo
I see that you have Kouros, I think you'll like Kouros Fraicheur
YSL Pour Homme
Creed Himalaya
Bulgari Aqua
Swiss Army
YSL Rive Gauche
Polo Black
Azzaro Visits
Azzaro Chrome

I think I might wear XS Black pour Homme this summer, a very playful, fun and definitely not a serious type of scent. I going to get the small bottle.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your suggestions! I am afraid however that "I" gave you guys the wrong impression. That is to say, I am OPEN to suggestions for a SUMMER fragrances that need NOT contain my favorite notes. In other words, my original post listed my favorite overall notes that I mostly wear in FALL/WINTER. I am completely open to something...FRESH (for lack of a better term). While I like STRONG, I suppose LONG LASTING is more important to me. I.E. no 4711
Thanks again guys for your help. Oooh, there are a few good suggestion listed above I AM considering!

Here are some of my fav's for Kentucky summers:

Claiborne Sport......you will like this one and it's cheap
Polo Blue........excellent even if it is quite popular
Tommy T.......traded it away then had to re-acquire it because I really like it
Silver Mountain Water........a lot longer lasting than you might think
Gendarme 20.........very, very good
Z Zegna........related to AdGio but still really good for a mainstream scent
Soul by Curve.........this one will get a lot of attention this summer.....

No groundbreaker's here but they all smell really nice, they all seem to last well on me, and won't break the bank either.

Creed SMW lasts forever on me too - it seems like that's a chemistry issue though. It might be nice for the relatively cool Maine summers, b/c I can imagine the currant note would be too much for some in high humidity areas. For a dry, long-lasting, and IMO very masculine lavender and iris, I'd check out Gris Clair. It lasted forever on me too. Started off with intense(!) lavender notes and then mellowed to a unique rich, herbal, summer men's frag.

My favourites for the summer:

Creed MI, GIT, Neroli Sauvage
YSL M7 Fresh, Kouros Cologne Sport (both superb AND distinctive!)
Essenza di Zegna
Truefitt & Hill 1805

Apart from these I would suggest that you seek Eau d'ete or fresh versions of many of the scents you like. Limited summer editions are quite popular these days and can be got over ebay fairly cheap... ;D

You might also want to try

L'eau d'Issey pour homme
Chanel Allure homme Sport
Bulgari Aqua and
YSL Live Jazz.

I used to like them a lot, but I'm just not that into them any more due to overuse... Still, quite nice.

Hi guys,

THANK YOU ALL again for all your wonderful suggestions! Since price is a HUGH consideration, I am leaning towards the YSL fragrances (since I am already such a HUGH fan of...the K word lol). That being said, I will look into the other suggestions as well. I made a LIST!
